The line can get long, but they keep it moving! Word of caution, if you want a full pie, keep in mind it will take some time (which is understandable). Good pizza- really, any good food- at a concert venue? I'm in. I haven't tried Mikey's at any other location, and seeing it where I already was for a show, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Wasn't real hungry, but my sweetie and I shared a slice of mushroom with roasted garlic. Awesome. A big slice, and yeah, $4 may be a lot for pizza but as I said, good food is in short supply at a place like this and I'd gladly pay it again. The toppings were good, the crust was good, the sauce was tasty and wasn't dripping off. And of course we tried the Slut Sauce (mmm) and the other sauces (all good; one was similar to the dipping sauce at Papa John's.) This is probably my most frequented Mikey's, but honestly probably my least favorite location. The pizza is 6/5 stars. Delicious every time. Perfect crust, not too much sauce, great cheese. I love the basil on the cheese pizza. The garlic dipping sauce is so good. It's just a great slice of pizza. Nothing fancy, but perfected simplicity. I particularly like this location for its seating. I'm good weather, it's a great place to sit and hang out. Lots tables and spacious enough for people to get around. I particularly like the touch of whimsy the decorations add. The service here though is lacking. Or it is when I come. Or maybe they just don't like the look of me? I've gotten a heavy sigh when I asked for a second plate because mine was giving out on me. The plates the pizza is served on are pretty flat and thin so if you put sauce directly on the plate it's getting every where. There used to be little cups by the sauces but there wasn't when I was there last and was met with a second exasperated sigh when I asked for one. I was trying to order a soda with my pizza, and everything I tried to order he said they were out of to the point where it would have been easier to just tell me what was left in stock. But instead I got a clearly annoyed stare and a "well, did you want anything?" It was an off-putting experience for sure. And while I can say it's pretty typical of this location, it hasn't been my experience at any of the others or any of the food trucks I've visited. Honestly, if I was rating on service alone it'd probably be a 2/5. I really, really love LNS. But I'm not in love with the Short North location. I've always thought the service here stunk, but a trip this past weekend proved it to be awful. I know these guys have a rough job of dealing with stupid drunk people, but I think they've gotten a tad too jaded and can't see when someone is genuinely nice. Three friends and I patiently stood in line at 2am, and we wanted a whole pie to go. I had never bought an entire pizza there before, so I politely asked the counter guy how it worked. He told me we'd have to wait about 15 minutes for them to bake a fresh pie. I didn't think this was a big deal, but I was confused because there was an entire stack of already-baked pies on the racks up front. I asked if I could just buy one of those, and the guy got really douchey with me. He smirked, "No. That's for the line of people behind you." He was totally a smart-ass and was beyond rude. Don't get the wrong, the pizza (& the slut sauce...dear lord the slut sauce) are amazing, and I'm so glad we have such a fantastic concept here in Columbus. This place was packed on a Friday night at almost midnight. We waited in line chatting up with a couple of people until it was time to order. Honestly I cannot say how long we waited, but we didn't mind it at all. We ordered two slices of spicy pepperoni (spicy and delicious), a slice of cheese with basil (oddly my favorite) and a slice of sausage (good, but I've had better). This place was such a miss for me and my husband. I was completely disappointed after eating a slice of pizza the other night. I ordered 1 cheese slice and by the time I sat down to eat it was already cold. The pizza was not good at all, it basically tasted like it had been cooked a while ago and was sitting out all day then they just quickly reheated it as you order it. Also, I tried all the dipping sauces they have out. All of them are bad, and honestly quite gross. The garlic sauce tasted like they just melted a huge tub of butter and added a little garlic flavor. I could only eat 1 bite b/c I felt like I would get sick from so much butter. Even the ranch sauce was bad..and how do you mess up ranch?! My only positive thing to say is I loved the atmosphere of the outside area. You walk up to the counter, order your food then have a seat outside at one of the picnic tables. Love that! The absolutely perfect place to end your night from both a food and entertainment standpoint. First - the food. You have a handful of delicious options from mushroom with roasted garlic, to the perfect pepperoni slice (the gentle crisp of the edges and the speckles of pepper illustrate this attention to detail), to specials like a Thanksgiving slice (turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce) and a hot dog folded into a pizza slice. They only make a few pies at once, so everything is piping hot. (Especially when there's a line of 10 people and they're ordering 4-6 slices at once.) You then take your slice over to the sauce counter, where beyond the parmesan and red pep flakes, you have options like Slut Sauce, hot ranch and garlic sauce, all of which are worth experimenting with and unique in their own way. And now for the entertainment value. GREAT people watching here, and everyone is friendly. That's number one, and since the line snakes around through the tables, people are laughing and yelling it's a damn good time. But perhaps the best thing is they project a movie against the brick wall across the parking lot for everyone to enjoy. They were playing Animal House last night, and quoting the movie with the other people in line was one of the best parts of the night. SO FUN. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and cheesy bread thru grub hub... the cheesy bread is delivered and it is cold and the cheese is not even fully melted. But no pizza arrives. My wife calls and they say they did not have ingredients so they refunded our pizza but sent just cheesy bread. On top of that the girl on the phone was not only not helpful but downright rude. They could have called to let us know, could have cancelled whole order... could have melted cheese on the cheesy bread. Had been hearing about this place for a while, so when I had friends in from out of town, we stopped by for a late-night snack after leaving another bar down the street. The pizza has goofy names like "plain-ass pizza" and "spicy ass pizza," with bearded hipsters working behind the counter that churn out pizza like a well-oiled machine. Not the first time this happened. A few years ago I was working in a hospital and there was a COCKROACH baked into the pizza, too. We called and took pictures. It was a waste of good pizza, too. The owner did give the floor a refund and checked each pizza and delivered it himself, personally. I haven't had Mikey's since. The nostalgia factor with their slice of the week and the Faygo soda adds to the ambiance of the remodelled patio at their original Short North location. Folks who are hammered at 2a write rave about Mikey's because they are the only by-the-slice place that has no competitors. There is pizza in Columbus that I like as much as I like Mikey's Late Night Slice, but none I like better. And there's certainly NO pizza place I'd rather sit to my meal at, and that's for sure! Between the High Street hijinx and the movies projected onto the outside wall opposite this open-air eatery, it's hard to find a place that so thoroughly delights all of the senses at once. The pizza is delicious, period. It's big and floppy and by-the-slice and for most people, one slice is probably enough. Flavors vary, but you can't go wrong even with the plain cheese. The bar of a million and three tubes of various sauces leaves room for nearly infinite variations on that one pizza topping alone. The sauce, the cheese, the crust- all great, all well-balanced. The sauce especially is, uh, mmmm. (My favorite of the tube sauces is the "Slut Sauce." I put a TON of it on EVERYTHING there.) There is also a pantheon of Faygo flavors, although I always stick with the same one. What's it called? Shit, let me ask Lisa. 60/40! Cool. I also get a kick out of their specials, although I've only had one. It's called the Cheezus Crust and it is phenomenal. It's basically an American-cheese grilled cheese, but with two slices of cheese pizza in place of the plain bread. Excellent, especially after injecting it with 1,023ccs of Slut Sauce. Faygo, huge pizza, Gallery Hop: AH! such are the best blessings in life. In the hustle and bustle that surrounds most Gallery Hops, you might accidentally get carried away by the crowd, unable to find a place to rest your feet. Finding a restaurant during Gallery Hop that doesn't require you to wait at least 45 minutes for a table is a gamble. But Mikey's Late Night Slice doesn't require you to call ahead or wait at the door. In fact, there isn't a door to speak of! You've probably seen Mikey's Late Night Slice on your latest Gallery Hop adventure. Located in a parking lot just south of Bodega, Late Night Slice is housed in a tiny yellow shack that doesn't look like much when closed. Come evening time in the Short North, or any time that there's a large event you can find that tiny parking lot come to life. Cheap plastic lawn chairs are spread out while people leisurely come and go enjoying pizza. You can catch a movie projected against the brick wall of another building or just sit back and watch everyone frantically get to their next destination on High Street. That's just the atmosphere of this open air pizza joint. The pizza that comes out of this shack is some of the best by-the-slice pizza I've had in Columbus. You'll get your standard fare of pepperoni and cheese, but the owners will throw together other pizzas with topping that they want. Try something different, you won't be let down! I also respect any pizza place that comes with so many sauces, shakes, and other toppings you can add to your slice after it's out of the oven. I dare say your pizza isn't complete without some red pepper flakes, garlic powder and Parmesan cheese. So you've got great atmosphere and great pizza. What are you going to wash it down with? This is a good place to take a date, especially if your date seems to be completely inebriated and you want him/her to sober up before driving home. You won't be embarrassed about your drunken companion yelling and making an ass of him/herself, because you are sitting right on High Street. I know all of this from experience, because I've taken a few drunken dates here myself. You may be joined by a homeless guy or two, but this is part of the fun. Oh man, I'm gonna get flack. I don't care though. When we try new pizza places, we try plain pepperoni because if you can't do pep and cheese right, go home. This pizza is made to soak up the drunk...period. It's tasteless, unimpressive and Brooklyn style pizza. I'm a sauce girl and their plain sauce is like tomato water. It's called spice people, use it. It's about on par with Hungry Howie's so if you like them, you'll like Mikey's. The hubby said he'd give it more than a 1 star but wouldn't get it again. So, I am over my little fussy tiff with Mikey's and I have to update my review. I am just going to put this plain and simple - it's the best pizza in Columbus.
