Come for the waffle, stay because you become family, and have another waffle. Yelp recommended this true old-school diner to me the week I moved to this area and wanted a real breakfast. With it's casual vibe and real red vinyl booths, Mil's comes across at first as needed a facelift to be a bougie breakfast place. If you're looking for bougie, go somewhere else. Leave this place for the true lovers of real hearty food and wonderful service. To be fair, the only breakfast item I have ever ordered is the waffle with strawberries. Sometimes I get a side of linguica. The linguica deserves it's own review (I'm part Portuguese and my DNA sings when I bite into it) but I'm writing about the waffle today. Get the waffle with strawberries. Order it now. Do not get it with whipped cream, do not sully it with syrup or butter (the syrup is heated and tastes like real maple from the tree syrup, the whipped butter is delightful). The berries are neither sugared nor in a glaze but instead are naturally sweet. I don't know where they get their strawberries or linguica from, but kudos to their buyers. The waffle is served hot. It is delicately crispy on the outside and airy inside. It has a bit of a yeasty tang and it just the right level of sweet. I savor each bite. The service is phenomenal, friendly and professional. Today I had put my napkin on my lap and the owner came by to top off my coffee while putting my silverware on a fresh napkin. They keep the booths spotless and in great repair -- no duct tape on a split for Mil's. I am not a coffee drinker and still recommend the coffee as rich, strong, and just the right among edge of that bitter coffee tang. Again, the linguica is a dream. The French toast that came with the omelette had a long hair on it. I didn't say anything since I don't like attention or make a big fuss with other customers around. The fries tasted as if the cook dropped some of them on the ground or poured sand on some of them. The omelette was alright but I had better. The server brought the bill when I wasn't even half done. A girls brunch where to go. I'm always looking for a good diner and I love the old school diner that have been around for long time. This is a great place for breakfast lunch and dinner with an old school vibe. We ordered the Santa Fe omelette it was fluffy and filling it came with a side pancake. I had the waiter create a hash brown scramble eggs with veggies which was yummmm. Everything turned out, pretty good. The pancake was not too our liking. It was pretty dense and chewy not sure why. The place has an old style to it with padded booths and counter service with stools. The wait staff was very polite, attentive and took good care of us. As we discussed and noticed it wasn't lunch time they informed us that we could order lunch if we liked. That made us extra happy. This diner felt like home, as it has a lot of regulars who have been coming here for years. The staff knew them. Today was a pretty terrible day of service. I'm not too sure what happened but everyone seemed to be in a bad mood. There was a young girl sitting near the register rolling her eyes at everyone. I'm assuming that the older woman was her grandmother and she was giving an incredible amount of attitude towards her grandmother. One of the waitress seemed irritated and threw the Togo boxes near the waffle makers almost knocking over the sauce bottle nearby. My food was ready and in their Togo boxes pretty quick but it sat on the counter for 23 minutes. This place is a joke they tell everyone that walks in it's a 25 minute wait and that's not the case. They told me 25 minutes. I waited 40 minutes and never got called. There was always a long line outside I bet because of the 60s diner decoration in the restaurant. This is my second time here, after maybe 5 years. The first time I was happy to see the interior to get the diner feel and food was good. This second time is ok, I can't say it's worse but it doesn't stand out among other diners. I've been going to this place for over ten years and initially stumbled across it when I was in college and needed a spot that opened early so I could eat breakfast while studying for exams later on that same morning. I used to take up one of the bigger tables and have all my textbooks/notes out while I ate/drank coffee. They were really chill about it and didn't seem to care much. I liked it because I was the only one there at 5am in the morning aside from maybe one or two people and it was ultra quiet so I could study easier. I come back every now and then because they're the ones who seemingly know how to cook a chicken fried steak (CFS) the exact way I like it. Their gravy is very well balanced, and the batter for the CFS is too. It's also really filling and sometimes it may not be an ideal meal for you if you don't want to already get food coma that early in the day. There's not too many cons aside from they can be a little stern and brisk every now and then. I've generally had good memories with them but then sometimes they'll be curt with me out of nowhere when I haven't really done anything to them that could trigger such a response. I think they deal with some problematic customers but they don't really know how to toggle off between the problematic ones and the not-so problematic ones. Also another thing, they have these weird processing fees if you pay with CC and it just sucks because I understand as a small business times are tough but I would just really appreciate it if it could all be streamlined into the pricing of the meal. Doing these nickel and dime processing fees here and there just feels "cheap" or that I'm being taken advantage of, and that's the perception I have whenever I get rung up for the bill. Had to wait about 25 min to get a table of 3 seated, but that's expected on a Saturday. It's a classic American diner vibe! Red vinyl booths, a classic set of stools along a counter - super homey and casual. Lots of families. Got a hot coffee (I'm a sucker for diner coffee) and it came with bottomless refills. Food came out relatively quick. Split the Belgian Waffle Combo (with 2 over easy eggs, bacon, and sourdough toast) and the Everything Omelette with my friend. Everything was to be expected. Classic flavors and very filling. Our waffle came out last, but it was really good. House salsa was good; had a little bit of a kick so add at your discretion. I've been meaning to write a review for this gem since coming here like way before pre-pandemic. Its hilarious how it took me this long to know about this place and I've been a Milpitas residence since birth. The proprietor and his wife were always such welcoming people and a fair warning the servings are gigantic! I usually order the Italian sausage and sometimes the benedicts when I'm in the mood. Their omelets are also humungous as well, so you're gonna have leftovers for sure. I would order some of their specials when I come in on the weekdays. Arula would always strike up a conversation whenever me and me boyfriend stop by for breakfast on weekends. The staff were always so accommodating even when we would make small requests on how we wanted our food prepared in a certain way. (PS: Do an order of soft scrambled and ask them to add green onions to it. Its tastey!) About waiting times, usually its pretty chilled on weekdays, but weekends you have to plan out a bit. I usually go between 8-9am or before 11, cause it can get pretty packed. Weekends tend to be much busier and also on holidays, so please try to be patient when being seated. Delish! I'm writing this as I'm finishing off the lunch I just got from here. Rock on! I'm a supremely happy camper for 3 reasons: the sandwich is GOOD. They did a custom tuna melt with wheat bread and avocado. The sandwich is perfect. Now look at the serving of macaroni salad. It's a *real* serving, and not just a token smidgen that some places give you. And, even though this is the first time I've been here, every one was so friendly. There was a decent amount of people waiting to be seated and we waited about 20-25 minutes before we were seated in a booth near the front of the dining room. Mil's Diner looks to be a popular local spot with families and couples. We saw big and small groups and the amount of people waiting to be seated just increased as we had our meal. Good variety on the menu from breakfast classics, 4 egg omelettes and lunch items served from 11am-3pm. I saw ribeye and couldnt deviate from that thought. 12oz ribeye USDA choice steak ($16.95) that comes with hash browns, toast and 3 eggs any style. In fact, both of us ordered that. Coffee was also ordered. That and water were brought out rather quickly. Our ribeyes and eggs came out maybe 15 mins later. Not too bad of a wait considering how busy they were. It must be like that every weekend. The ribeyes were good. Good grill marks and perfect with some A1 steak sauce. The hash browns were great and the scrambled eggs were tasty. Perfect hungry man's/woman's breakfast. I went with a side of toast and the lady had a side of fruit. Service was good, quick but friendly. I thought for the amount of food, the price was reasonable. I was a regular customer at this place until last Saturday. I went there and asked for a table for two, as I always do. I waited for a table because sometimes there's a wait, and when they finally seated me, I ordered for two. Then I called my wife, and she came from her lunch break to have breakfast with me. We do this because she only has 40 minutes for her lunch break, so the food is already ordered by the time she arrives. She gets there, waits for her food, and we have our meal together at this place. This time, I asked for a table, and the man at the entrance simply wouldn't seat me. Another couple arrived, and he seated them. I asked the waitress, who knows us, if she could seat me since there were several empty tables. She spoke to the man at the entrance, and he said, "I won't give him a table until I see the other person here." She explained that I was going to order for both of us and that we were regular customers, and he simply said no, he wouldn't give me a table. That's why I'm giving them this review, for denying me a table and service. Sometimes they've given us the wrong food, sometimes they've brought the wrong drink, or we've ordered something while we were eating and it never arrived, but we considered those minor mistakes. But refusing to give me a table when there were about six empty tables is unacceptable. I traveled half an hour to get to the place, and they denied me service. read more

I discovered this spot on a lazy Sunday morning when looking for a quick and easy brunch nearby. It's a quaint traditional diner with all your typical breakfast and brunch staples, and a few lunch items as well. I went with a couple friends and we tried a variety of different items. The pancakes and waffles were both solid and well priced, and my vegetarian friends seemed to enjoy the veggie omelet as well. I got the country special and the biscuits, sausage, gravy and potatoes were all quite good. It also came with a few eggs which I ordered over medium but unfortunately the yolk was still a bit too runny for my tastes. We ordered a few mimosas too and were pleasantly surprised at the size- it's a 16oz mimosa in a large pint glass for under $10! The staff are all super friendly and accommodating. I will say it would be nice to see a few more vegetarian options- the lunch menu has a mushroom burger which we almost ordered before realizing it's a standard beef burger with mushrooms and not a mushroom patty. Both were good, but between the two crab cake was better. Food took quite a while to come which is understandable and also a good sign indicating they don't take shortcuts. Portions were quite large and service was good. Reducing 1 star because they gave us plastic straws without us asking for it. This place is always so busy, and unless you come at a weird off peak time, there's usually a wait to be seated. I feel like they are understaffed because even when the restaurant wasn't full, it still took a very long time, over 20 minutes, to just put in an order. Eventually, we left without bothering to wait for our food to come out to our table because there was a couple of guys sitting near us who were spewing profanity the whole time and ruined my dining experience.
