As soon as my boyfriend and I entered, in hopes of delicious breakfast, we were greeted by unfriendly and seemingly angry staff members. We stood up at the front for a while looking over the menu as no one came to greet us or seat us. After waiting for about five minutes, someone ushered us into the corner where they gave us lunch menus. I asked for a breakfast menu (it was about 10:15 AM), and the server said "No! Only lunch!" Sadly I looked over the lunch menu and saw everyone else around us had breakfast menus and everyone was being served breakfast. No one came to our table for another ten minutes, so we left. I'd be maybe willing to try this place again but there are other delicious options in Idyllwild, so I'd only come back here if the lines elsewhere are too long and I'm starving. read more

So far this is the best restaurant that we have tried in the Idlewild area since we bought a cabin there. Luckily for us it's only just down the street from our house and we will frequent it often but the owner is so friendly. What owner comes out and actually describes and detail how she does the food and her background and spends time getting to know each guest? Not many. Everything we have tried here from the breakfast to the dinner was spectacular. The bulgogi is the best! Spending the weekend up here I decided to check out their local cafe. Very nice place! More than anything I really enjoyed the customer service I experienced. The food was great too! We had a voucher for breakfast from the Quiet Creek Inn for the two days we stayed there. The basic breakfast, eggs, sausage or bacon, hash browns and toast was delicious and well prepared. We also tried huevos rancheros and the spinach and mushroom omelette. Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out and we enjoyed these very much. The service was efficient and friendly, the menu provided plenty of variety. I'm sure the other dishes are also excellent, but with breakfast from 7:30 to 12:30 I had to have that. :-) read more

The hostess was nice. Unfortunately, like everyone else they are understaffed. The only thing I didn't appreciate is that she didn't let us know. She gave us a 25 min wait and we waited like 35 min until I went and checked to get an update. She then told me it would be another 25 to 30 min. OMG. This place! What a delightful surprise! Came in with breakfast on my mind, however, we were seated at the bar andi changed my mind after seeing entree after entree prepared. I had a noodle dish with beef and my bf had the Monte Cristo. We both ordered coffee (move over Starbucks!) Both of our dishes were incredible! My dish was flavorful, the beef tender and the noodles cooked just right! I added a little touch of Siracha for some heat. The Monte Cristo was the perfect combination of sweet and savory- topped with a dusting of powdered sugar and a side of jam. We've been coming to Idyllwild for many years, and ate here only once or twice when it was a greasy spoon sort of place. Now, it has been transformed into a beautiful space, casual but elegant. Menu is eclectic with Korean dishes alongside traditional American fare. My spouse enjoyed the French toast, while I chose the tofu gyoza from the lunch menu. We love this wonderful family-owned and operated restaurant. There's a dog-friendly patio, where we sit with ours, but inside there is a grand piano and often live music. The menu is mostly American Comfort, but the owners are Asian and there is a once-monthly night with Special Asian Menu. Breakfast is good weekends, but a fabulous value weekdays--ask for the Local's Special. It's a Bento Box with enough calories to take you miles on the hiking trails around town for about the cost of breakfast at McDonald's. We come to idyllwild often due to family living up here and we have to say this place is awesome. Great customer service and the food is amazing. Found our new place for home made corn beef and hash. If you are up this way be sure to stop and try the food Update. Just went back again and not sure what happened but the service went down hill. They would rather spend more time in the kitchen talking to one another then taking care of the customers. We arrived close to noon and was only given a breakfast menu then after we ordered we seen every one else was getting lunch put on their table to eat. Seems at noon we are still suppose to ask for a lunch menu. Food was ok had the country fried steak this time and had food flavor but the meat in most places was hard to chew. My wife and I were looking for something other than the standard burgers and salad up here in Idyllwild during our weekend getaway. We are from the Irvine area, so we are a little spoiled with Korean food there. We didn't expect anything when we came to eat here, and we were very pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the bibimbap (served in the traditional hot stone bowl) and the grilled tofu with vegetables. We were so happy to find a place that has a really good salad! My husband loved the Cobb Salad, "the perfect amount of bacon !" I just needed something small and tasty, which I found in the Miso soup and housemade Kimchi. Service was friendly, food came out on time, and the owner was delightful to chat with. Very friendly and although we were told they were out of sushi (if it isn't hyper-fresh I am happy they choose not to serve it) we had a good experience. I had the bulgogi with salad, rice and kimchi. GF had the burger with blue cheese. Portions I found to be big. GF couldn't come close to finishing the burger and I had trouble finishing even though I showed up quite hungry. TIP: There's a nice baby grand piano that they let my GF play (she actually can play quite well) and the other guests wanted more. Idyllwild is not much for variety, kind of like if you are not eating a burger, you are eating a sandwich kind of place. Given the small town and lack of competition, the restaurants do tend to jack up their prices, but who is to blame them. The last time I paid this much for a burger though came with endless fries or the time before that I was eating one hell of a burger. Anyhow, my boyfriend ordered the Texas garlic burger and I went with Sicilian burger. Overall, the burgers were juicy even though the patty was a bit overcooked, but the toppings must have helped and everything was on a nicely toasted brioche bun. I personally liked my drier Sicilian burger better with having less condiments inside and focused more on the flavors of dried tomatoes and spinach. My boyfriend loved the heavier Texas burger with the bacon and onion rings though. The turnaround was fair, feeling neither super fast or super slow. The first time I had the breakfast burrito and I wanted to try it with bulgogi but they were out of bulgogi! wth!! Oh well - I ordered it with chorizo and it was delicious - the eggs were fluffy and cooked just right. The gf had the quinoa omelet, and she usually has leftovers to take home but she ate the whole thing so I know it must have been good. The next meal I ordered the Galbi (marinated short ribs) and eggs, and man, that Galbi was delicious. I'm from the San Gabriel Valley, so I've had plenty of Korean food, but that Galbi was just as good (if not better) than any of those. Plus this time they had bulgogi so the gf and I decided to split the bulgogi breakfast burrito, and it was booooooomb. Only downside is now I"m burping up garlic. Here we are at the Mile High Cafe in Idyllwild, enjoying an in-between beeakfast and dinner (11 am)...to my surprise, I picked some odd (for me) items off the menu.... miso soup, French Dip sandwich, salad and Bananas Foster. Trying to go Paleo, but sometimes my brain just goes squirrelly over the radical dietary shifts currently underway, and I just order *wtf*....with mixed results. We have been here many times over the past 20 years, whenever we visit Idyllwild. I believe the owners have changed and they are delightful. We expected the normal simple diner food we have had in the past, but I was so excited to see bulgogi on the menu. With my Asian heritage, it is one of my favorite dishes. A friend and I just stopped to get coffee and warm up on during a motorcycle ride. The place was busy but nobody was sitting at the bar so we grabbed a couple seats. 10 minutes later nobody had acknowledged us so we just asked one of the employees in front of and somebody got us a couple cups. After a few minutes somebody gave us a refill- the only interaction not Initiated by us. After that I left money on the counter for a few minutes before waving someone down to get cashed out. Coffee wasn't that great. It was $3 plus tax so it wasn't that cheap. Service was bad, especially for a counter. Maybe the food is good but I'll head somewhere else next time. read more
