heard the hype about this ai-built dessert shop and wanted to pay a visit! went on a tuesday after dinner and there were only a few people in line. i had heard the line can be long, but moves fast. the store is pretty small with some outdoor seating and is located in downtown walnut creek so lots of metered street parking and garages with an hour or two free. -they do samples so i tried a bunch of the gelatos and they were superrr creamy and flavorful which i was pleasantly surprised by! -mango milky flakes (4/5): very mango-y, light, and refreshing! theres a layer of some sort of nutty crumble in the middle which was a nice textural change and complimented the dessert well! it can be a little messy to eat since they pack the cup but they put napkins on the bottom of the cup when they hand it over to you. the milky flakes also melt a little faster than id like, but they are light and milky which is a good option if youd like something lighter than the gelato overall, a solid dessert store with flavorful and refreshing soft serve/gelato/dessert options. will definitely be back to try the other gelato/soft serve options! read more

Went here right after an R&B brunch across the street at Chateau. There was a line, however, not long. As a Filipino, let me say that they got the ube flavor right. I would t say the flavors are complex- seemed very simple but each comes with a recommended topping. My ube had coconut flakes. The staff was very attentive- it was a little chaotic but perhaps it was because there were about 5 couples with us and we all tried something different. My husband got a Hokkaido cone and we both agreed that there was no complexity and tasted truly just like vanilla. They were all in a cool looking container but because it is often opened, our ice cream was all handed to us very soft and more like soft serve than ice cream. The ambiance was cute. As you can see from my photo there is a cute selfie mirror when you walk in. There were tables outside that could accommodate 2-5 people. Here, it's $9.95 for a small snack-size portion but given that bingsu is often more than 50% air and empty space by volume, the actual amount of shaved milk seems sparse. Ours came with maybe 1 1/2 strawberries, a drizzle of very sweet strawberry syrup, a thin layer of graham crackers, and a squirt of whipped cream. There's only one size available but looking at the pics, the non-branded cups look to be double the size of the branded ones? Poor value aside, because the cup was plastic, the bottom half was already melted before we can reach it...even tho we were sitting in the shade. Very cool and experience first time to try Milky Flakes. Yes they have flakes made out of milk. It's a unique topping. I had the mango large $10 very pricy but totally worth it . The mango's were superior in quality . The shop is on a corner and is in walkable restaurant and dessert district in DT WALNUT CREEK. I parked in The Ross parking lot which is free for 2 hrs. Finally got to try this place out after seeing it all over social media and I'd have to say it was just okay. Came here for dessert after having an early dinner at Chubby Cattle in Pleasanton and while they do have a nice array of flavors that include Ube and Mango, the ice cream was just okay. Consistency was nice and fluffier than most other places. The added toppings sprinkled on top and waffle wafer are also a nice touch. With that said, Handel's is still probably my go to ice cream spot in WC unless you're only in the mood for Hokkaido soft serve. I tend to like ice cream that is a little richer in flavor. Came here on a Friday night and the line was out the door! For a reason though :) Food: Pretty amazing! I got the greek yogurt soft scoop and it was so good!! The honey and nuts paired so well with it. The consistency was chef's kiss! My partner's mom got the salted caramel flavor and I'm not a huge fan of salted caramel but she said it was good! Milky Flakes - Welcome to the Dub C! It was a nice surprise seeing them open right at the corner of places I dine at and order take out from more often than I should. Nice welcoming logo from the exterior, and classy floral clean interior. I don't want to call them another ice cream shop, as they serve limited flavors of soft serve, soft scoops, and milky flakes (shaved milk snow), and not technically ice cream, so I'm not comparing this spot to ice cream spots as it's rather different (though it's tempting to say ice cream on numerous occasions). Walked in, got in line, and a couple people helped us out. They were welcoming in letting us try samples and encouraged us to do so. I tried a bit of their ube soft scoop and it was really good! I also tried their Hokkaido milk soft serve and that was a pleasant one as well. A bit different than what I've had in Hokkaido, as this one is soft serve and the flavor was a bit different and mild in a good way. The daughter and I didn't feel like going full on dessert so we each ended up getting their soft serve. I got half half of Hokkaido Milk and Matcha, and she got full matcha. The matcha soft serve is topped with some matcha powder (amazing!) and the Hokkaido milk one is topped with some freeze dry strawberries. They can omit if you don't want, but it's highly recommended. Very soft and creamy. The matcha wasn't too sweet at all and was taste-able. What a win!! I'd def come back to try their shaved milk snow as their mango one was calling out to me. I'd also love to order a soft scoop as well. They pair the soft scoops with toppings (see menu photo) that make a lot of sense. It seemed like Milky Flakes just popped up over night. With the arrival of July comes Milky Flakes in downtown Walnut Creek. I ventured into the store on a Sunday afternoon after the queue of people have disbursed. Unsure of what to get, I opted to sample the Hokkaido Milk and Organic Matcha soft serves. The staff were friendly and asked for my genuine opinion. I confirmed that I appreciated the fresh sweet cream forward flavor of the Hokkaido. Reassured them that there was no scent of vanilla. The organic matcha was also great in the way that its tea forward (not latte/milk forward) and appreciated that it was extremely smooth. After a small pause for reflection, I ordered the Hokkaido Milk Soft Serve, to which they topped it with freeze dried strawberry flakes. It added a subtle but nicely sweet taste as well as a more interesting texture. Will definitely be coming back, especially since this is perfect for the summer. read more

I like how there's some toasted coconut (?) crunch at the bottom and they give a good amount of fresh mango. Also, there's some bits of granola or something inside the middle of the cup. Good, but unexpected. All in all, the service was excellent, $10 per cup was a bit expected, and I'd have to give them their props for now. I think the milky flakes is just missing something though.
