I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across this place. Being vegetarian, I was happy to see some vegetarian and vegan options on the menu and appreciated seeing the nutritional information. I wish more places did that. While the entrees were a little light on veggie options (just one, excluding the flatbreads), there are enough options that you could easily mix and match a meal together. I found the food flavorful and fresh, which is so much of what I want to eat these days. Definitely recommend the beet salad and sweet potato salad. Flatbreads were also really good. The food was very good, the server was excellent, the wait for seating with reservation was unacceptable. We had Saturday reservations at 6:45 through Open Table and did not get seated until 7:10, 25 minutes late. The bar was tiny and packed, the waiting area near the service desk was the same. I had read other reviews of the same situation, they need to fix this. Our sever, Amanda, was excellent, very helpful and attentive. She helped us with dietary restrictions, as did the menu. Both entrees were very good as were salads and humus appetizer. My wife's swordfish could have been better with a little less time on the flame, but it was still very good. Room is quite loud and busy but not too frenetic. Other than the wait, the staff seemed very professional and competent. read more

This is a very classy place with great food and excellent servers. The drinks and desserts options are fantastic. It's pricey, as you'd expect for the quality and atmosphere, but the Happy Hour discounts are very steep and make this upscale restaurant affordable for working people or the young (but not under 21). Very bland food and not very creative. Healthy food does not need to be boring. For the price point, I could get the sea bass at Lurcrat and have a flavor explosion that is amazing. Sea Bass on a bed of quinoa??? The only point of quinoa is to get your essential amino acids. So disappointed. Will not return for the food. I dined at MVK for the first time tonight and was quite charmed. The space is very inviting, especially with the cozy fireplace going. My favorite part of the meal was my first cocktail - "apples to apples". It includes brandy, apple juice, honey and lemon - so tasty without being cloying like many apple cocktails. I want another! I had the hummus/pita, vegan chili and spicy green beans. All were tasty, but they couldn't touch that drink in the delicious department. They also have a nice selection of taps, including local Steel Toe Brewing's Dissent, which is amazing. The service was impeccable and I love that they clearly list on the menu what is vegan (and also provide the calorie and nutrition break-down of each menu item). What a great unexpected find! We decided to go here around happy hour yesterday (Saturday) and were totally impressed the deal on the HH menu, the caliber and healthiness of the food, the service, and the really nice atmosphere in general! Truly a hidden gem. I had a bison burger ($8 on HH), my girlfriend had the tuna poke for $8 and a shrimp taco for $4, all delicious and high quality. I had one of my favorite IPAs on tap, a Steel Toe Size 7, for $4 a pint on HH. read more

I got a hold of the restaurant and they did not apologize, but did say they would check the ingredients. I would not wish how I felt the night after eating here upon anybody. I have been to Mill Valley several times in the past and felt the food was excellent and service was good However, today I feel I need to write a review as we experienced some of the most rude service I have encountered at a restaurant. We went to a very early dinner at 4:00 pm as it was Mother's Day and knew later would be busy. When we entered the hostess continues to fold napkins for a few minutes until she asked if we had reservations. When I replied no, she shrugged and said we could sit at the bar if we wanted. She went back to folding napkins. She seemed annoyed when I asked where to sit and said - just sit anywhere. Funny enough there were over 20 empty tables(?) only a couple other people in the restaurant. read more

Went here last night after reading several good reviews on here. I was a little disappointed as the menu is very small and not a lot of options. Although the menu is very health conscious and lists calories, carbs etc. and know you won't be finding anything deep fried. Food was amazing and ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Together our table had a flatbread, bison burger, and pasta and all were excellent. Service was also amazing. So, my sister, brother-in-law and husband ate here and said everything they had was delicious. They were so kind to bring me home a veggie burger, per my request. BAD CHOICE on my part. This was the MOST disgusting veggie burger I have EVER had in my life! I would like to also say, that I have had just about every kind of veggie burger out there (wild rice, black bean, quinoa, soy, ect.).This one seemed to be made out of beets and mushrooms and nothing else. It was a soggy, nasty red mess with almost no flavor, aside from the earthy beet and mushroom taste. Don't get me wrong, I like beets, but as a veggie burger?! My GOD. I am super upset that we paid any money for this. Not to mention, they put the salad in the same container as the hot burger. When I got it, the salad was wilted and nasty. I really really wanted to like Mill Valley Kitchen. But, truth be told, my experience was only average. My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary in July. Apparently their air conditioning wasn't working because it was about 90 degrees in there. Too bad, because it distracted from the beautiful design and atmosphere of the restaurant. The hostess couldn't seem to find our reservation so we ended up having to wait for 30 minutes for a table. While waiting, we attempted to buy a couple drinks at the very crowded bar. My "French 77" cocktail was worth it. Finally seated, our waiter was prompt. Almost too prompt the entire night if you know what I mean? I know it's busy, but I don't want to stuff food down my throat. We needed a chill down from both the heat and the waiter. The Mixed Green Salad was pretty good, but the lettuce was wilting with the heat. My Salmon dish was delicious, however my boyfriend ordered the scallops and they were burnt. We finished with the chocolate chip cookies. You will need to ask for an extra glass of milk. By the time we got to dessert our butts were soaked with sweat from the seat. If it wasn't for the heat it would have been at least bearable. Not the best anniversary dinner. read more

This is my go-to place to bring people visiting from out of town, which for me is usually New York foodies, so you know it's good! All of their cocktails are delicious and I always jump for the Chilean sea bass, they do it right here! But I've had most of the menu and it's all good and made with fresh and healthy ingredients. It's the beginning of a new year and what comes along with that? January resolutions. (C'mon, we all know these resolutions only last a month, if that!) I typed the word "healthy" into the yelp search page and a surprising list of "healthy' restaurants popped up. The one that stuck out was Mill Valley Kitchen. I looked at the menu, forwarded it to my boyfriend, and we both agreed: YES, HEALTHY. LET'S GO. We made reservations and went on a Friday night. The place was bustling and, I must admit, more upscale than I would have thought for a $$ restaurant. I was absolutely thrilled to find nutritional values (calories/fat/carbohydrates/protein) listed next to the menu items (because remember, I'm trying to be HEALTHY). I was even more thrilled when i tried the food. DELICIOUS AND..... HEALTHY. The Prairie Companion cocktail has officially been added to my list of "best cocktails ever." It literally brought a tear to my boyfriend's eye. We walked out of the restaurant, satiated but not gassy or bloated, and determined to return as often as possible. read more

I dined here last Saturday with my fiance, a friend of mine, and her husband. None of us had ever been there before, but all heard good things about it. Plus, it was the only restaurant that had a 7:45 reservation open on a Saturday night. We arrived and were seated promptly and immediately greeted by our server, who was great and brought back the word "groovy." I had the pork chop which was delicious, and my fiance and I ordered two sides: carrots and whipped sweet potatoes with coconut milk. The sides were great! The carrots were julienne and charred like crispy french fries. I would suggest ordering one side to share between two people. Because the sides were only $5 and the menu did not allude to sides with entrees, we over ordered. My pork chop came with two sides, and my fiances meal did as well. That was the only draw back to the experience. Overall, the meal was great. We ate our meals but didn't feel "heavy." I would recommend this place for sure. I love this place! Making some healthy changes to my eating styles in 2013 has taken a toll on my options for eating out. This restaurant has changed that for me. There are healthy options for all times of the day. The service was great. My water glass was never empty, and the server did not care that my friend and I sat there for longer than necessary using their free wi-fi. I had the ruben, which was delicious and healthy. I cannot wait to go back to this restaurant to try out the different options on the menu! The crowd was a bit vanilla and boring, but I feel the food makes up for it. The menu outlines the nutritional content on all the items on the menu, so you can know what you are putting in your body. The location does not look that inviting from the street, but it is nice inside. The parking is a bit tight, but usually available. read more

For a relatively new restaurant MVK seems to have most of the usual problems worked out that typically plague new eateries. The inside of the restaurant is hip and seemed to be packed with "beautiful people". A friend and I decided to check out this place for lunch after reading good reviews of it on Yelp. We both ordered burgers and were surprised to see that they came with fresh green salads instead of fries (apparently they don't have a deep fryer in the kitchen). My bison burger was juicy and really good for being such a lean meat. I'm looking forward to trying out their breakfast selections since they all sound excellent. read more

Food was good, but not stunning. *Great* ingredients that didn't always come together or weren't presented in an edible fashion. Very good steak, mountains of tough kale, gummy wilted spinach. I suspect that stopping into the bar area early for a burger would be amazing, but won't be back for the dining room. Cocktails were fine, particularly for the price, but heavy handed. Our server had too many tables, and after ordering we saw more of our buslady. The host was expediting which seemed odd for the size of the place. It's cute, and good, but not amazing. Lots of gluten free options. Lots of healthy Paleo options too. Service is exceptional. Coconut sweet potatoes could use a bit more flavor. We liked how the steak was cooked. I loved the bison burger, lettuce wrapped. They had half priced bottle wines which we took advantage of. Good selection of California wines. I also liked the small portion mini desserts. Just went there for lunch, and it was great! I was realllly impressed with my daughter's lunch, actually I would've been delighted with her lunch. She had the pappardelle with bolognese with fresh fruit and EDAMAME!!! They also had a fancy children's high chair. Very children oriented...very impressed! I ordered the tuna sandwich, and the tuna sandwich is not your basic mayo salad. It's olive oil based and very light. And to make the lunch better, we had a warm chocolate cookie. My wife and I met another couple for dinner and absolutely loved it! We had the carrot appetizer and the flatbread pizza, both of which were delicious! Well-cooked and tasty. My wife had the sea bass entree and I had the New York strip. She loved the sea bass but the steak was only so-so. I get the feeling that the chef's heart is more in the vegetarian and vegan dishes. But, definitely worth eating at once. Parking is tricky too, since the restaurant is basically on the ground floor of an apartment building. Very novel presentation of their food and fresh and open dining atmosphere. Four stars. read more

Seriously a great find. Fresh food. Friendly service with the perfect recommendation. Loved it! Get the ahi tuna salad - big pieces of tender tuna! Salad dresses were great and not over the top in quantity. We were in a rush and they delivered the food quickly. We will be back for sure to enjoy the decor and food. read more

Visited Mill Valley Kitchen for the first time on Monday for my wife's Birthday. Food was outstanding, service was great!! My wife had the Grain Bowl with Shrimp and it was incredible!! My 13 year old son has an advanced palate and enjoyed the Duck Breast with Lentils Sweet Potatoes and Spinach and Bacon and my Braised Lamb Pappardelle was delightful. Food was so fresh and the ambiance was great!! Will definitely return!! Can't wait to try the Sea Bass and some of the Flat Breads!! read more

So sad! We have dined here multiple times a month since they opened. Unfortunately, it has changed and by changed, I mean, they are seeming to head in the direction of less family friendly and much more expensive. They used to have the best happy hour in town with the best burgers and great signature drinks (burgers are still there) but prices have really increased and they only have a handful of drinks to choose from. They only allow happy hour in the bar now, which by 5:30 pm is usually full and doesn't accommodate our family. If anything, I'd love for them to resume happy hour throughout the whole restaurant. We will think twice about stopping by in the near future :( read more
