The old guy who is there is super rude. He asked us where we want to sit, inside or out and my teenager son answered politely how about inside?. He looked at him and said I didn't ask you. Overall I had a good food experience but concerned about there Covid-19 precautions and there chefs weren't wearing there masks properly and the owner was not wearing his mask at all. They also didn't check for vaccines and it wasn't just for me it was for the rest of the guests there. If your reading this the restaurant needs to practice better safety. read more

I have looked at the reviews. I believe that many of the negative reviews come from disappointment that the old Millies is gone. It was a place where four or six guys could sit around and talk and drink coffee. It was not very busy and the food was okay. Victor ran American Kitchen on Lafayette Circle and it was great. I miss it. The new Millies American Kitchen is great too. My french toast breakfast was super-duper. We are going back there as soon as we can. I have been a member of organizations that lost the highly regarded leader. Some people cannot accept and enjoy the the new leader, and some people can. Yes, they still have the coffee cake. And they've built a great redwood deck for outdoor dining where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch today. Good service, friendly servers, good variety on their menu. I had the huevos rancheros. My husband had their hamburger plate It's got to be hard to take over an institution like Millie's. No, it's not quite the same restaurant, but it's got a nice feel to it. If I could give a 0.00 review I would. The owner I'm assuming was very rude as I was deciding on a beverage. He cut me off in the middle of my sentence . I want to say it's a place that discriminates against black people but I would need to hear stories from others that have come here that are also black before making this assumption . Our family loves Millie's American Kitchen (and we loved the old Millie's as well!). The food is always fresh and delicious and the service is great. I love the veggie scramble, Spanish omelette and my kids are a big fan of the pancakes. For the people making a stink about putting your name on the waitlist, or the attitude of the host, I truly don't understand the gripe. The manager/owner does a great job of getting people seated as quickly as possible and we have always had pleasant interactions with him. We will continue to support this local business! read more

After being a fan of Millie's Kitchen, all the way back to the '70's (better times all around), I decided to try the new Millie's American Kitchen for breakfast. Very disappointing. First, I ordered a sparkling water and was told only club soda was available. Okay, no big deal, but really? "Club soda" arrived and it was 7-Up. No big deal. I politely told my server/owner who informed me "well, it came out of the club soda dispenser" -- um, that's great but, but it's not club soda, it's sweet, it's 7-Up. I also ordered srambled eggs "soft" which arrived way over cooked. I will not be going back. Sad. Used to love Millies. Much better food. Never cared much for the American Kitchen food either. TuTu is a much better bet, much nicer atmosphere, far better food. And thank goodness Ocean View Diner is returning to 4th Street in Berkeley. Had a fantastic breakfast this morning at Millie's American kitchen. I was a little reluctant to give it a try as I haven't been there in years and their Yelp reviews certainly weren't glowing. Having said that, I realize that change can be difficult, especially for long time, customers, and I felt I needed to check it out for myself. Boy am I glad I did! My husband had the eggs Benedict and I had a scramble. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection. I also love that they offer gluten-free options and the coffee was fantastic. My only feedback is the hollandaise sauce was a little flavorless. My husband and I both agreed that it could use more salt, but completely understand with clientele of varying ages it's better to leave things less salty and add salt as needed. With regards to the service, we couldn't have been happier. Our server, Aimee (also an owner) was delightful! Super attentive, over the top friendly, and all smiles. The owner of the restaurant, Victor, is getting a bad rap. Although he's not a particularly Smiley guy, he was professional, hard working, and clearly knows how to run a business. If you're looking for a great breakfast, a simple, VERY clean ambience, and fantastic coffee, give the new Millie's a try! read more

Food was mediocre especially the avocado toast that I ordered had very little trace of avocado. In fact, there was no actual avocado in slices, but was a watery sauce in green color as a hint of it. Latte, at $5, tasted like instant coffee with milk, no flavor. Wanted to support local business but with such high pricing and low quality, don't think so. read more

Well, this feels like American Kitchen in a new location rather than the continuation of the beloved Millie's Kitchen. Much of Millie's has been erased with one exception, coffee cake is still on the menu. No longer is the restaurant open at 5:30am to cater to before work, before school crowd. No more Santa Fe omelette nor any of the former favorites. The interior got a make over, with bright white paint and empty walls. No more heritage Lafayette charm. The food that is served is decent but nothing spectacular and for some reason the new owner decided to move away from the 50 years of success at Millie's. read more

Sharing in hopes the owners will make a few improvements as we would like to keep coming back. Had breakfast today. We were direct d to a table, then the tall gray haired gentleman wiped the top of the table with his bare hand. Kinda yucky. A few minutes later, he was holding a small dog. I wondered how often he washes his hands. Coffee was just fair. I think breakfast places should serve good coffee. My broken oats and farro was excellent, nice and hot too.Yum! This place is absolutely delicious! I've ordered here several times to go and it's always super fresh and tasty. I usually go for the breakfast burrito with chorizo and black beans. I ordered the breakfast sandwich the other day it came on like this butter bun it was so good. The French toast is amazing the coffee cake is to die for. Also any of the Benedict's with the hollandaise sauce are super yummy! Hopefully I'll get the chance to go eat inside one day to get the full experience. I did read the reviews yesterday and I thought it was really sad that people are giving the new owners so much crap. Its hard enough owning a restaurant but then dealing with people who are never satisfied and like to complain about everything is ridiculous. We should be supporting there new business not destroying it. Especially when most of us are trying to get back on our feet from Covid and inflation is insane right now. I hope more people try the food here and ignore the negative comments because I've never had a bad experience.
