I always (always) start with the French Onion Soup - it's the best in the area. Have a bowl, which is more like a "bucket." Real rating - 2.5 stars. We met friends for lunch and they chose Mimi's Café. I really looked forward to going to a place I had never been to. The café was very crowded and we had a short wait for a table. With the amount of people there, the café was also very loud. After being seated, our drink order was taken and we looked over the menu. Breakfast is served any time, but we all chose to order lunch. Majordomo chose the half and half. Half spinach salad and half of a chicken salad sandwich. I chose the salmon with frites as did our companions. Considering the crowd, it didn't take that long for our food to arrive. My salmon was good and as I have said before, fries are fries. Majordomo had a big problem with his meal. He wanted me to give Mimi's two stars. Since my meal was average I wanted to give it three stars and settled giving it 2.5 stars. The salad on his plate was not a spinach salad but a mixed green salad. When we pointed that out, they quickly brought a spinach salad to him. They had small pieces of tomato all over the salad. Majordomo hates tomatoes. The description on the menu said nothing about tomatoes. He picked around them as much as he could. And his chicken salad sandwich on a croissant. That was sad looking. It had a tiny scoop of chicken salad in the middle of the croissant and the rest was lettuce. He said that what little chicken salad he had was good. 10 years ago, this place was amazing. The past three times (in the past year) I've been in everything gets progressively worse. Starting off, they had the hostess barely able to communicate with me because she had AirPods in, I had to repeat myself three times, not the end of the world but super-frustrating when I just wanted a booth, no one was there. I ordered the salmon Benedict, what they brought out looked like vomit on a plate. The server had no issue with it when I asked her what the chunky brown stuff was (hollandaise apparently). I've been in service for 8 years, I would never bring that out of the kitchen to a guest which tells me their standards are non-existent. The only saving grace, was a server (who wasn't even my waitress) coming over and apologizing profusely. She offered me a plethora of menu items for free. (I didn't grab her name but she was the only caucasian person on staff if that helps management identify her). She was the only person that offered any sort of positive experience. I genuinely felt bad for her, she was more embarrassed than my server, the manager or the chef. Someone should go in and offer her a job, the rest of the place should just be allowed to die quietly. I've been here many times and have always had a good experience. We put in a reservation more than a week prior for a large party on Mother's Day (today). I am a waitress myself, and I am appalled. Hardly any drink refills. I had to wave down someone every time. The food took over an hour to come out, and it took them a solid 30 minutes for everyone to get their food. On top of that, every single persons food was cold. I get that it's Mother's Day and it is very busy, but you need to be prepared or just take less reservations so that the guests that you have can have a positive experience. I have been to Mimi's before but this was my first time for Sunday Brunch and you know my slight aversion to chain restaurants. I was wrong. The brunch was excellent. I ordered Hickory-Smoked Bacon & Eggs which came with 4 strips of hickory-smoked bacon, two scrambled eggs, herbed roasted potatoes, and I chose the carrot raisin muffin as my bread choice. All was cooked perfectly and I couldn't finish it all. My brunch date ordered Three Buttermilk Griddlecakes with two sunny side up eggs, mixed fruit, and sausage. He loved it and said everything tasted great. He had a big appetite and finished most of the meal. We were blown away by how good this was and we will come back for brunch again. The menu is expansive and everything looks fantastic. Key word...looks. I had the Mediterranean chicken salad, all of the makings of a VERY good and filling salad, and yet it was very bland. My sister had the grilled cheese, spinach salad, and tomato soup (which the tomato soup is except from this review as it was absolutely delightful) and my mother had the french dip with fries and was also underwhelmed. He could hardly walk and could not speak English. And told us "this was good enough, the air circulates". The only thing reasonable was their muffins. If you ordered it to eat- in they are $3.99 each. If you order a 2 pack to go they were 2 for $5.99. We would have left but husband ordered coffee so we picked 2 muffins to go, paid for them and the coffee and left. read more

I've been to Mimi's in the past and remember really enjoying it, but it seems to have fallen quite far. Sophia was an absolute sweetheart and provided good service. The spinach artichoke dip was actually really good. Unfortunately there wasn't anything else positive. The croutons on my husbands salad were basically just a pile of crumbs. He ordered the jambalaya with pasta, which was mushy. Rubbery shrimp, stringy chicken. The flavor could only be described as "vaguely spicy but not much else going on." I ordered the half roasted chicken and my bad, I assumed that it would be a roasted half of a chicken, not chicken that is halfway roasted. It was fully cooked but so very pale and didn't have a single speck of any seasoning on it. It didn't even have the taste of butter or salt or even chicken stock. It was just plain (possibly) baked chicken. The skin wasn't even roasted or browned at all. I could go get a Costco rotisserie chicken for $5 and have three times as much food and it would actually be seasoned. When I ordered the long grain rice I thought maybe a nice pilaf, not a 1/4 cup scoop of plain white rice. The green beans were cooked nicely but had no salt or pepper and only a sprinkling of minced garlic. Suffice it to say I'm probably not coming back here anytime soon. If I need a bland meal there are any number of places I can go to get that for a lot cheaper. read more

Ok! Love this place!! Started going here when i was pregnant 3 years ago and has enjoyed every single time!! Today i took my mom for the first time for her bday and she enjoyed it just as much as me! Samantha was our server and she was nice enough to allow us to sit outside on the patio even though it was like 90 degrees!! She was prompt, attentive and super friendly!! We were in the mood for brunch and a mimosa. Found this gem and were very happy. Masks required to enter. All staff were wearing masks. Sanitizing tables between patrons and are only using every other table for social distancing. I ordered the Croque Monsieur sandwich, my husband ordered the bacon & egg croissant sandwich, and my daughter ordered the chicken, walnut, berry salad. First impression can be deceitful, clean, well lit, and plenty of staff. Menu has a variety of stable favorites, the usual. I ordered medium well steak and over hard eggs. That was the worst steak I have ever tasted. It looked greatly with the grill marks and garlic butter but it was more close to rare and bloody, with a bland taste. I expected more from Mimi's. I made a reservation for Thanksgiving dinner several days ahead of time. We are moving and from out of town and no place or time to host or cook, so we invited 3 local family members to join us. When we arrived the host couldn't find our reservation. No problem, there was room. We were hurried into a back room which was already loaded with a party of 18. We were an afterthought. An impromptu table was set up in a not so cozy area. Mimi's is such a quaint place and none of that on this trip! Our server was obviously mad because we were seated in the area where the party of 18 was. Every single part of the dinner was hurried, nothing relaxing and all conversation interrupted by ordering, serving or clearing. Our drinks were "slung" out on the table in no order, no straws, no apologies. No dinnerware or napkins at chairs/places. If you get the picture, just about everything was flung out on the table for all of us to decipher who gets what. I understand that it's not fun working on holidays, I did that for 25yrs at AmericanAirlines, but I never took it out on the passengers. I knew what I was getting into when I signed up. I gave the server a 20% tip and would have gladly given more had the service been even mediocre bordering on good because of the holiday. NOTHING about this meal was pleasant or tasty and for 30.00 per person plus beverages it should and could have been better. No excuses please! Addendum to review...we had our pieces of pie to go. Have been to this Mimi's before, in a larger group than we had this time. There were only four of us this time. My daughter's side of bacon never showed up, but was on the check as an extra. My other daughter was missing one of her sides and my muffin was missing. My eggs were crunchier than the breakfast potatoes. You read that right. My EGGS were crunchier than the potatoes. How on earth do you even do that? Make eggs crunchy. The fries had parsley on them, which was odd, well, one of the orders of fries had parsley on them. Me and my dad traveled to the Valley to get my car an oil change and tire rotation. We thought it'd be a good opportunity to get some breakfast, kill time and bond. Mimi's was a new name we have heard of, so worth a shot. The location was in a nice part of Chesterfield in the valley. The interior of the place was kind of uninviting in my opinion. A lot of wood, but it didn't feel homey to me in any way. If you're going to go that route, don't half ass it. The service was all you could ask for. It was fine. Drinks were refilled, food came out in a timely manner. There was really no complaints service wise. The food was my main complaint. The menu selection for brunch/breakfast was just weird. Unless you're a hipster and want salmon and jumbalaya for breakfast, this isn't the place for you. It's annoying that they give you dried potatoes instead of hash browns. That was brutal. There also wasn't much of an option for a bread choice. "Muffin or toast". No biscuits or croissants? Come on man. The value you get isn't what you pay for. In the end game, this place tries to be that "fancy" breakfast place. The food was over priced and would rather have breakfast made by my favorite lunch lady from Francis Howell Central High. Sort of a cute French-American cafe, with all-day breakfast. I had a decent Quiche Lorraine, which tasted reasonably fresh. My companions generally enjoyed their omelettes and ham-and-brie sandwiches. Service was friendly but a bit haphazard - I attribute that to it being Eclipse Morning, which was I'm sure unusually busy for a Monday. As chains go, you could do worse. Please don't roll in here expecting legit French food though - it's basically a resemblance that's skin deep at most. And the eclipse in the parking lot afterward was amazing! read more
