I would have given them 5 stars had it not been for the inconsistencies with cooks, which I clearly understand how challenging it is to keep a professional, efficient level, quality staff these days. Regardless, my omelet is my favorite for breakfast. I love the fact that I actually can verify that I get real, by order food here, unlike the prepackaged dishes other places offer, unbeknownst to me until I asked for a simple variation. Mimi's serves real food. Now, when it comes to quality staff, and awesome service, no matter how super busy they may be, Stephanie rocks! From managing to serving, she's on top. Our food comes out to our specifications, our drinks are refilled on time, and we always get served with a smile and a cordial welcoming attitude. Haven't been to a Mimi's Cafe for so long so I was a bit excited. Food was okay...but was not wowed really. I was expecting fireworks because I love their food. It's not bad, it was just not as amazing as I expected it to be. We ordered Jambalaya, the spiciness is just right but the flavor is a bit bland. The smoked salmon egg benedict was alright....again missing the umphhhh! The corned beef hash was alright as well'. Nothing great to make a fuss about. Now, The French onion soup is as good as I remember it to be! Now with the service....the male staff or Manager who greeted us was really nice and friendly. The female staff wasn't too friendly nor helpful. She was not as nice to us as she was with other customers. She barely smiled at us. We felt more of a nuisance than a good paying customer. Sure we are not the regulars there, first time in that branch. Let's just say the smiles were not as often as it was given to other customers. Omg what happened to the glory days of Mimi's Cafe? We decided to go there last night after several years. I remember the days you had to wait in long lines to be seated. Unfortunately it's not at all what it used to be. We ordered the 1/2 roasted chicken which was dry and lime rubber. It was served with soggy overcooked broccoli and string beans. I ordered a side petite salad to go with it and after explaining which salad dressing I wanted the server forgot to bring it all together. We also had the beef French dip sandwich. Sadly the aujus dipping sauce was just way too salty to enjoy. Another observation about the ambiance was how brightly lit the restaurant was. I asked the server why it was so bright almost giving me a headache and she just agreed with me and changed the subject. I'm sad to write such a negative review about what was once an enjoyable place to dine but management needs to know what the public is thinking in order to take appropriate action to improve or just close it up. read more

I enjoyed a visit at a time when they were still serving dine-in customers. Prompt service and quite good value. In some parts of the café, it is too noisy for a group conversation; it is still OK to talk to the person next to you. We used to have a monthly dinner meeting there until the noise level grew too high. Came here on a Friday around 6pm to eat dinner before our Paint Nite event hosted inside the restaurant. We were seated at the bar fairly quickly by the hostess. We ordered drinks, then dinner shortly after. The drinks took some time to arrive but they tasted fresh when we got them (we ordered a whiskey sour and spiked strawberry lemonade). We snacked on the soft complimentary bread with the drinks. My friend ordered the 3 course meal options which came with a soup or salad, one of the entrees listed, and one of the desserts listed. That was $25 and pretty good value considering the amount of food and how nicely cooked/flavored everything was. My friend ordered the corn chowder which was hot and flavorful. Neither the salt nor the sweetness were overpowering, the potatoes were a nice contrast to the corn and the broth tasted great. I ordered the Caesar salad as an add-on to my entree. It was a good portion size, had fresh croutons, and not too much dressing. My entree was the coastal shrimp pasta and though it is fairly lemony and probably too salty for some, I found it appetizing! I personally enjoyed the salt level and the freshness/amount of shrimp with the linguine. The other entree, the Parmesan crusted chicken pasta, had very crispy/fresh chicken and good flavor. Though the pasta sauce wasn't an authentic marinara, it was still better than your below average lasagna at Olive Garden. Plus the cheese on the chicken was super and enough for each bite! Lastly we received our molten lava cake with the ice cream and it tasted like a solid 4.5/5. It was warm, moist, paired well with the ice cream and fresh strawberries, but we both wished it had even more chocolate inside! Pleasantly efficient service, clean and spacious restaurant, very nice staff, and we appreciate how quickly we received everything since we wanted to be done by 6:50 (though we didn't tell them that). Just had a great birthday dinner at Mimi's! Our server Amanda was very helpful and attentive during the entire visit. She also didn't mind helping us decide when we were in between two dishes. I decided on the Oven Roasted Turkey and it was super good. The stuffing that it came with was amazing and the meat wasn't dry at all. Amanda helped me decide to add on a side of French Onion Soup and I'm glad she did because it was delicious! I visited Mimi's this morning. I was surprised to see that there was nothing on the walls except a few wall sconces. What was going on? I ordered the eggs Benedict and it was horrible. So incredibly salty it was inedible. Had our waitress ever come over while we were eating I could have exchanged this for ANYTHING else. But she just noticed when she brought over our check. She then asked if I wanted a box. I said no. She then asked if I wanted anything else. I said no! Hell if she had been over to our table anytime during our meal I could have exchanged it then. She continued to charge me for domain took more than 3 bites of! This is incredibly poor customer service, I love Mimi's but it has been going downhill for quite some time. Painting walls doesn't help with customer service training, it only glosses over a poorly run organization. It would have been nice to not be charged, so what are you going to do now Mimi's, 17th st and 55 Frey? read more

I just met with a girlfriend here for a late lunch and how perfect! I hadn't been to Mimi's Cafe in ages, of course, with the Pandemic. She's the one who picked the place. Mimi's was a perfect lunch option! I'd often eaten at Mimi's in other locations over the year, typically for breakfast or brunch in some way. So I was delighted to eat here for another meal and have such a great experience. The menu had a number of terrific fare including sandwiched, burgers, soups, and salads.... And then I noticed they had quiche options. I feel so very 1980s, still, quiche is a terrific food and they offer both Quiche Lorraine (Bacon! Need I say more?) and the more Vegetarian and Plant Based option of Quiche Florentine (Spinach and Cheese, no meat). I decided to go with the Quiche Lorraine. It came with a small side salad. I was seriously impressed with the side salad. It wasn't just a pinch of Romaine Lettuce. They were mixed Organic Greens. Great little cherry tomatoes and slices of cucumbers. The cucs were lovely and green and didn't taste like the waxed ones sold at grocery stores. I pleased and delighted. The Quiche was its own full small quiche, not a slice. Nice crust, not thick and doughy. And, yes, of course, Spice Muffins! Isn't there an Ode written to their Spice Muffins? I'm in love with them. This quiche with a side salad is exactly what sets Mimi's Cafe apart from a basic coffee shop. Their food is just a bit better quality and the menu more varied. Also, just these small details are exactly what I mean about how Mimi's is just a bit better while the prices are still great: the water glasses. They're small water goblets, not a giant water glass. Loved it. Will definitely be returning. Such easy access on/off the 55 freeway at 17th, making this a great place to meet up. I highly recommend. read more

It wasn't as if no one saw us but they simply went about their work or stood out of sight. After departing we drove to Lazy Dog Cafe where we received prompt and friendly service, plus great food. Rude! Angie (co-manager) along with the male manager make very unfriendly customer service choices here. The other servers are lovely however a bit understaffed. I asked for almond milk to cream my coffee and I'm charged a whole cup of almond milk while they give me 1/8th cup. The other Mimi's don't charge for almond milk. Consistency is key! Dead cockroaches laying on their back on the ground along the perimeter of the inside of the restaurant. They should be more concerned about this than spending so much energy to be unhelpful and cooperative with their customers. You would think they would be thankful we bring business to this very slow unpopulated restaurant. read more

Unbelievable! I ordered food to go while having a drink at the bar. I ordered soup, Jambalaya and bread pudding. I should have checked it out before I left. Jambalaya turned out to be pot roast!!! I am writing because I was a very disappointed after having breakfast today at Mimi's. Mimi's was one of my favorite breakfast spots. It was our family's place to meet up on Sunday mornings. My all time favorite dish was the Pain Perdu French toast. I remember the serving size was almost impossible to finish. The toast was so soft and moist. It was filled with a generous amount of creamy orange marmalade and covered with giant juicy berries. It was divine!! This morning I was really looking forward to the Pain Perdu French toast. Unfortunately, I immediately noticed a difference upon receiving the dish. The serving size is now half of what it used to be. The toast barely had any orange marmalade, and the blueberries were tiny and dry. They must have been frozen berries. I was mostly eating dry toast. this makes me very sad. I'm definitely not going back to Mimi's. It time to look for new breakfast spots. read more
