Affordable prices for lunch specials. Minimal decor. About 20 seats and cozy place. Quick service. I enjoyed my beef ho fun (flat noodles made with rice) here. There are two gentleman running the joint, and I could tell they work hard. They have bubble tea and pad Thai on the menu. I even saw Vietnamese noodles called pho. Hands down the best Chinese food in all of Rochester. The owners are incredibly kind and the food is amazing. I've eaten there so many times that they actually recognize me and my order, and frequently throw in an appetizer or dessert for free. Dining in is great during the day, but because it is such a tiny restaurant it sometimes gets crowded if you go in for dinner on the weekend. I suggest take out, or they even deliver! Tried this place for the first time after a few recommendations. Such a cute, well-kept secret! I ordered the House Special (shrimp, chicken, and pork) Hong Kong Chow Mein and loved it. Flavors were good, and the vegetables / meat were in generous sizes and tasted really fresh. We decided to eat in rather than takeout. We were seated right away. Service was quick, and our waitress was wonderful. Very accommodating, and had recommendations ready for what to order (which is the best when you're unsure about what everything on the menu means). One of our top choices to eat at on our Dinner/Movie nights. Great food and prices. The parking can be difficult (they only have 2-3 spots out front) so we normally park up the street at the 7 Eleven, eat here, then walk half-way back to our car for the Cinema. It has a hole-in-the-wall atmosphere and the seating would be difficult for a large party/family, but the food is amazing and perfect for a couple. We always order off of their Chef Special Board. I have two recommendations to friends I send to Ming's. The first? Get the noodles. The Phat Thai and Mai Fun are wonderful dishes and a staple of my (probably too frequent) trips to Ming's. The crab rangoons are the best in the Rochester area. They are rich and flavorful. The boneless rib lunch special is a great deal at $5.25 as it comes with rice and an egg roll. The second recommendation? Don't get the typical American take out Chinese food dishes. Ming's doesn't deep fry their meats beyond recognition and they don't drown their meats in sauce. As a general rule, that's a great thing. But I want my sesame chicken deep fried and floating in sesame sauce. I want my General Tso's the same. A few people have complained to me about the Kung Po, but I've never had that. Overall, I would give Ming's a 3.5 But Yelp doesn't allow for that, so I am going to rate them a four because of the speed of their service. I live two blocks away from Ming's and I have called in an order, left the house immediately to walk there, and the food has been ready when I arrive. Incredibly efficient operation. read more

Beef with broccoli was terrific, chicken with garlic sauce was wonderfully sweet, garlicky with a bit of spice at the same time and was outstanding. Egg foo yong was made to order and super! The BQ fried rice was very flavorful and had a good proportion of rice to the add-ins. If that was all I ordered, I'd rate it well. Sadly, the salt and pepper tofu was not good at all and I ended up throwing it out. At all the places I've had salt and pepper tofu, the tofu was silky and almost seemed to melt in your mouth, but here it was spongy. I'm not a prolific tofu eater, but I think they used the wrong type. Additionally, the coating didn't even make up for it: it was bland and flavorless. Overall, very disappointing. I also ordered a green tea boba. It was sweetened despite the fact that I ordered just the green tea instead of the sweetened with honey option, but I didn't mind. However, the boba itself was lumpy and seemed to be disintegrating into the drink instead of the relatively compact balls I've had before elsewhere. I am willing to give them some leeway on this since I ordered take-out and this might just be what happens when it sits in the drink for a while, but if I ever go there I won't order it again. read more

Ming is a great restaurant. And there are a few things that should be the proves of that. Their ingredient are FRESH. They always have fresh vegetables according to the season and not just the all year long broccoli. Also pay attention to the Daily Special. I thin they update it about once a week depend on that is to offer in the market. Also, They give you actually food. When I ordered the sea food Pad Thai. I am surprised and please to know that there are actual sea food in it, shrimps, scallops and squid in good portions. Ming's dumplings are true authentic and home made. The filling is actual ground pork and not just some paste and the skin is thin like they should be. My friend from Hong Kong would sometimes just order a ton of dumpling and have them for his meal. And I, an Asian who grew up in Taiwan cannot get enough their General Tso's Chicken and Duck Udon. read more

Ming's is ok. It's on my way home so I capitulate sometimes. Nothing to brag about. A good choice is the chicken with spicy eggplant. That will run you $8.25 and it comes in flat dishes, not quarts. They give you a small thing of rice in a styrofoam container that would hold a medium sized burger. Additional rice costs $1.50. Meh. What bugged me today was that there were a bunch of plastic spoons that had fallen on the floor, right where customers stand to order. The owner (or some older fellow) picked them up, wiped them on his pant leg, and put them back in the box for some unsuspecting customer. I probably won't go back after seeing that move. read more

I was looking for some good take-out in the area and I thought I'd try Ming's based on the ratings on yelp. At first, I was a little skeptical from the exterior of the restaurant. But, when I went in, all of the people seemed to really be enjoying the food. My boyfriend got the General Sao's chicken and he swears it was the hottest food he has ever eaten. The first time I went, I ordered the beef with eggs and mixed vegetable. The corns were so tasty that it added to the dish a very nice Cantonese flavor. It deserved five stars there. In fact, I missed the dish, esp. the corn flavor so much that I ordered the same dish again after a few days. I ordered takeout and when I got home, I was quite disappointed that there were no corns, no carrots but an overwhelming number of peas... (on a side note, i hate peas....) other than the peas, it tastes okay, but kinda lost its distinct flavor and the whole point of me coming back for the same dish. How did I not know about this place that's been in business for 20 years?? This is a tiny neighborhood joint is my new favorite place. I read about it on Insta, checked out the menu on line, and went the same night. Far from fancy (squeeze by the guy making dumplings in the back to get to the restroom), but food is top notch. I had house special phat Thai ($8.50) and was best I've had. Lots of shrimp perfectly cooked, chicken and pork. The heat level was perfect for me. Spicy!! The fresh cucumber on the plate added a really nice crunch and cooling effect. Had enough to bring home for lunch tomorrow too. Had fried veggies dumplings that were delicious too. They were deep fried although I expected pan fried. Still great. Husband had broccoli in a brown sauce with white rice. Sauce was really flavorful. A little sweet, but it was expected. I ordered Hong Kong Style Shrimp Chow Mein last night and was blown away. It was SO GOOD. I want to have that every night this week for dinner. We also ordered Hot Sour Soup (my litmus test for a Chinese restaurant). The hot and sour soup was different than my "golden standard" but even better in some ways - more refined and not the "hit you in the face with vinegar and white pepper" of most hot and sour soups. read more

This was very disappointing. After seeing the pictures posted online my coworker and I decided to try Mings Noodles out for lunch. We ordered online, setting the time to be picked up at 12:05, and went to go get it. Got there at 12:05, picked up the good, drove 10 minutes back to work, sat down and started to open the boxes. The Shanghai Noodles with Duck I ordered looked nothing like the pictures on Yelp, but tasted fine (although the duck was dry). The spring rolls were completely soggy and stuck to the wax paper wrapping, one of the disintegrated when taken out. And the salt and pepper squid were hard pieces of round squid triple dunked in a thick batter and lightly fried so they were both hard and soggy/squishy at the same time. With no taste of salt or pepper. And I'm pretty sure the 'calamari' we had is Italian not Asian. I'm not one for bad reviews, but I was so excited from the pictures others loaded on here.. I used to order from this place once a month, years ago. I recently moved back into the neighborhood and tonight I ordered takeout. It was simple enough: sweet and sour chicken combo. My food was late. It was warm. My sweet and sour sauce was more like jello and it had a weird taste. Some of my chicken was way overdone and others were barely cooked. My rice wasn't that good. Date) the guy was practically screaming at me. I ordered chicken and broccoli but what I received was a giant bowl of broccoli that I had to dig to the bottom of to get to the 2 tiny pieces of chicken. The woman who answered when I called back offered to send me a new order. But after waiting 2 hours I finally called her back and said I didn't want it anymore and to please refund my credit card. She first claimed she couldn't do that. When I called her out on it she called me a lying BITCH and after hanging up on me several times, threatened to come to my house! Ming's used to be my go-to take-out Chinese until Han Noodle appeared. They are still a great place for noodles and I'll always enjoy their ho fun and Singaporean style noodles. Their dinner specials - served with rice and an eggroll for about $7 are a very good deal and the food is consistent and overall good. It's definitely more of a takeout joint than a sit-down place, although I have eaten there a number of times and never had a problem with the service. Kelly is always friendly. Their Americanized dishes - Sesame and General Tso's chicken - are both better than most of the Chinese restaurants in Rochester. read more

i had been going to Mings every Saturday night with my father because he liked the Shrimp mei fun soup....when it became obvious that we would be there Saturday nights.....the quality dropped....the shrimp mei fun was never the same....the condiments on the tables have NEVER been wiped off....just bigger and bigger globs of sauce in the tops. The front window is covered with fly spots .....ie fly shit!!!... I would order the"specials" and would leave with pockets of napkin filled food that I had to spit out!! I tried this place because it's closed by I just moved to Rochester two weeks ago. I have to say the orange chicken doesn't have any orange flavor at all. Just a sweet sauce. Very disappointed. The egg rolls are okay. I wouldn't go back for it. Wegmans egg rolls in the buffet bar has more flavor. I also order beef with wife noodles. It's okay but it lacks the Umami flavor that I missed. Best Chinese in the Roc. Dirty hole in the wall with very limited seating, but if you can ignore the poor ambiance, stay there for your meal. It comes quick and is hot, tastes fabulous, and the service is friendly and attentive. Staff is SUPER quick here and the food is really tasty! This was my favorite place to go for quick pad Thai for about 2 months and I think I might have pad thai'd myself out. I haven't ordered anything else here but everyone I've been with has always enjoyed their meals and the menu is very fairly priced.
