Went for the end of happy hour/dinner and had a great time sitting at the bar. I started with an Oolong Island Iced Tea cocktail, which was so smooth but probably as potent as its namesake. They have non-alcoholic options available as well. The sweet potato fries had a great texture from their light batter and delicious flavor. My friend and I both got the red braise noodles. I definitely recommend getting the combo beef and tendon. The tendon added a great texture unlike anything else. The flavor starts out almost like pot roast, but it gets richer and spicier as you eat. Makes for great leftovers! We shared the fried chicken, which was another great bite. I loved the seasoning, I think it was sour plum. I got the pineapple tart for dessert and my friend got the cheesecake. Both were really solid. The pineapple tart was super unique, definitely recommend. This was kind of a last minute thing for us, so I'd love to try table service instead of bar seating next time. I ventured into Minyoli this evening for the first time and was sincerely hoping that the food would be better than the verdicts rendered by several of my friends- which, unfortunately, ranged from mediocre to disappointing. Let's start on a positive note. The ambiance is inviting and the service was decent to good. The prices are on par with other places in the neighborhood. As for the food and drink, well everything was ok, with a couple of stand-outs. My friend and I started with shared appetizers of the talow wings, which were tender, nicely seasoned and accompanied by sweet potato fries that were also good. The other appetizer was the cucumber salad, which was plentiful and offered a nice balance between the pickling and the spice. We originally planned on another starter, but they were out of that. Glad we "settled" on the cucumber salad, since that was the best part of our meal. When it came time to order our main dishes, I selected one of the specials. No dice. They were out of that too. My friend ordered the noodles with beef and the server talked it up enough that I followed suit. I mentioned light-heartedly that I never usually order the same meal as the person I'm dining with and the server said: "You won't be disappointed." Only problem is...I was disappointed. When the entrée arrived, it looked good enough to eat. There was a lot of chili crisp on one side of the bowl, which I love, and about five slices of beef- all over a heap of noodles. I mixed it all together and was excited and ready for a pow of heat and flavor. Only problem is...there was neither. The chili crisp was less than mild and not at all crispy. The noodles were bland, and the meat was way over cooked, chewy and fattier than it should have been. As my friend perfectly put it, the whole bowl was very "one note." As if to add insult to injury, I had a non-alcoholic pineapple and ginger soda. I asked the server if this was very sugary and he said no. In fact, since the soda is made in-house the server told me that they could keep the sugar level down for me. He also said that the drink was very "ginger forward," which was great by me since I love spicy, spicy ginger. When the drink arrived, it was bland, just like the entrée. It wasn't too sweet, so that was good. But there was only a hint of ginger and a whisper of pineapple. The final coup came at the end of the meal. When the bill came, my friend and I both presented our cards to split the bill as we customarily do. That's when the server told us they only take one card. I get not splitting a bill by more than three or four cards per table, but two? That's preposterous! Look, it wasn't a big deal since my friend and I are like brothers. But what if someone happened to be on a first date or whatever? Yes, Venmo, Zelle, etc., can all happen. But not everyone has that luxury. It's awkward, unnecessary and, frankly, cheap of a restaurant that doesn't want to pay the swipe fees. When I politely mentioned to the server that taking only one card was a bit of a surprise, he told me that it was posted on the menu. He was also seemingly a bit annoyed that I brought it up...like I was being bratty or something. Ok. I'll take his word for it. But if it was on the menu, then it wasn't prominent enough to take note of as I was looking at all the meal options (my friend also didn't see it). I checked to see if the one card policy was posted on the front door when we were leaving, and it wasn't. Anyway, not the end of the world, but something you should be prepared for if you dine here. In the end, I sadly have to agree with my friends' assessments of Minyoli as a mediocre to disappointing dining experience. read more

Really cute and welcoming restaurant - the decor was lovely and everyone working there was super friendly. Came with a group of five and it was easy to make a reservation. We started with deep fried king oyster mushrooms and then I got the creamy miso mushroom noodle soup. The deep fried king oyster mushrooms were really good - great light batter and seasoning. My noodle soup left more to be desired in terms of flavor. The noodle texture was awesome, but despite there being miso I felt it was not salty enough and I kept adding the deep fried oyster mushrooms in my bowl to give it more flavor. Absolutely amazed with how good the food is! Housemade braised beef noodle soup was flavorful, delicious, meat was very tender and melt in your mouth. Also tried the seasonal duck confit vermicelli and the meat was also very soft and fell off the bone. Ingredients are different than what they normally use on the regular menu so it was worth trying and was not disappointed. I have been wanting to try Minyoli for a while, and few weeks ago the opportunity came over for it. And undoubtfully it was A-MA-ZING. My gf ordered the flight, and there was a person explaining to her what every glass is made of, the notes and the process that made it . The waiter was amazing, he was on everything and making sure we were doing great. The place wasn't loud and good to enjoy time with your friends without yelling. For appetizers we got different things, like the popcorn chicken, the chicken wings, tofu and century egg, braised beef and kelp, radish and tofu. Everything was amazing and love all of it. For main dish I got the jajamien, that I completely finish it quick since it reminds me the classical taiwanese food on china, so it is great to know there is one around the city to eat whenever I have a craving for it. And for dessert, the ice cream taco was on point, I was sketptical at the beggining but once you try it, it all make sense, the flour tortillas, with the ice cream and some crunchyness, was unexpectedly amazing. My friend and I went there for their restaurant week menu over the weekend. We got their brunch since it's the only option. The food portion wasn't worth the cost for what we spent for lunch. This was my second time at Minyoli, and it was even better than the first! We went as a group and split a few dishes. Even thought the restaurant was busy, the service was was quick and attentive. They were good about refilling our waters which I appreciated. We tried the corn, the sesame noodles, and the vegan mushroom lu rou fan. Restaurant: 32/50 Month tried: June Favorite dish: TBD Was really bummed when we walked in to Minyoli on a Saturday morning and they were only serving their brunch menu, which doesn't have any noodles on it!! Well, they have one cold noodle salad, but really not what we were expecting walking into a restaurant known for their noodles. Even sadder - I did not like my chicken and waffles. It was a very unique combo of flavors, and could have been good except my waffle was completely raw inside. This is where my promise to rate every new restaurant this year is tough - I don't feel like my opinion of Minyoli after one brunch is very fair. First off, the service here was exceptional. My friend and I sat at the bar and our waitress was so fun, informative, and answered our questions with enthusiasm and great detail. I got a rice bowl - the beef Lu-rou-fan- and my friend got the four gods niuroumian. We shared the popcorn chicken. For drinks I got the Taiwanese pineapple beer and she got the sour plum house soda. A few thoughts: I wish my main had a bit more of the beef + mushroom and less rice. The popcorn chicken was delicious and we both enjoyed the plum powder but do wish it was a bit more hot + crunchy texture-wise- the chicken was room temp and tasted like it had been sitting out for a bit. Our drinks were good although my friend did note that she wished there was more carbonation to her house soda. Visiting the area and my friends and I spotted this place and wanted to check it out. I loved that they had the windows open as it was a beautiful and warm evening. We were greeted and got a table immediately. The place was quiet and very clean. I like the variety on the menu. They had two options for ordering. Booked a last minute reservation for 6:30pm -- vibes were nicer than most Asian spots, with alcohol on the menu (so price was also higher) -- was surprised to find so many gluten free options which is often not the case for Taiwanese / Chinese food. So will have to come back with my husband who is gluten free. I checked the brunch menu and there aren't a lot of gluten free options for brunch so will have to come back for dinner -- I loved the beef Lou rou fan (rice dish)! The wood ear salad was pretty good too. Not a huge fan of the sesame noodles. -- the bubble tea was not bad but a little too sweet. If you prefer to sit inside the cutesy Asian decorated restaurant I highly recommend reservations in advance or else they can only seat you in their back patio which is clean but lacks charm. Taiwanese chicken is a popular street snack at night markets, and has a dusting of star anise, cloves, cinnamon, Sichuan peppercorns, and fennel seed. I first discovered "Minyoli" when I spotted an interview about the restaurant on a Taiwanese YouTuber's channel. As a fellow Taiwanese, I knew I would pay a visit at some point, but little did I know that Chicago Restaurant Week 2025 ($45/person) gave my partner and I the opportunity to try it out. Our visit began with a tiny glitch. I didn't think about making a reservation on a Thursday evening. The host directed us to the bar seating first. We then found out we couldn't order from the restaurant week menu set. We left with a slight disappointment but soon happened to snatch a reservation online for a table seating later that evening. With that said, things worked out for our favor. The great thing about the restaurant week menu set was the ability to sample various Taiwanese dishes that I was familiar with back home. The pickled cucumbers were spot on and they were very similar to how my mom prepared! Likewise, the fried cabbages were crispy and fresh. I would say the night was up to a great start. The fried popcorn chicken and fried king oyster mushrooms were fine, yet I had better elsewhere. They were quite salty and that was the only flavor profile I could recall. On the other hand, the rice dishes were slighly plain, but rice itself was well-cooked. Although I enjoyed the Taiwanese beef noodle (niu ro mian...the transliteration), I felt there was something missing in the broth. I did want to make shoutout to the very tender beef and beef tendons. These were delicious! I found the coconut ice cream very refreshing and it minimized the garlicky smell in my mouth...lol. My partner enjoyed the black sesame dumplings himself. He didn't expect the dessert to be hot and soupy. Nevertheless, that could just be the right choice to end our dinner in a cold and rainy January night in the city. Parking near Minyoli wasn't hard to find. This is hands down the best Taiwanese restaurant in Chicago. Super authentic Juan Cun Taiwanese cuisine, and their dishes like Taiwanese corn on the cob (appetizer), spicy tallow dry noodles, Four Gods Beef Noodle Soup, and frozen pineapple tart/pie dessert (a family recipe) with coconut or prickly pear ice cream served on the side are all phenomenal. Excellent, attentive and prompt service as well from the waiter. They also carry a wide assortment of beverages like Kavalan, Calpico, Hei Song Sarsaparilla and Guava Juice, Apple Sidra and many cocktails. I was talking to Chef Rich Wang and his cousin X Wang and they were saying they also served Taiwanese breakfast on Sundays, freshly prepared, and they are the only place in Chicago that has it. I asked them if they were planning to serve Bawan, and they said not currently, but there is a place called Oriental something that serves it located in a food court in the Chicago suburb / next town over of Westmont. The restaurant is also located in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. Most highly recommended, and a must check out if you are a fan of Taiwanese cuisine! read more

We were waiting to visit for a while after seeing it on social media and we finally were able to go! The best thing ever was the corn ribs appetizer! It was so delicious and flavorful! Every bite was just so good and the umami flavor was killing it... but unfortunately, that was the only thing we ordered with flavor. Next was the cucumber salad and it had no flavor and wasn't very crisp. It was just eating cucumber in oil so it made me pretty sad for $8. I love cucumber salad at restaurants and it usually is so addicting! Just not this one. I got the beef noodle soup (consumé base) and I've never had soup so bland. It was pretty disappointing since I heard it was cooked for hours so I was super excited. :( It didn't even have a delightful light beef flavor and just tasted like water with the essence of beef. The beef pieces were extremely tender though and was very good. Just the broth having no flavor really ruined the dish for me. The portion is small in my opinion for $21 and for it to have no flavor is crazy for that price. I also tried the zhajiangmian and it too... had no flavor. It was very strange to me that I couldn't really taste anything, even the pungency bean paste normally has. I've eaten the Chinese and Korean renditions of the dish since I was a kid and always loved it. Usually my food is way too salty at Asian restaurants, so it is weird for me to find one that under seasons instead of over. The restaurant itself is very personable and I absolutely love the mascot. Named after Chef Rich Wang's Juàncūn neighborhood in Taipei Minyoli is a Noodle Shop on North Clark Street focused on hearty flavors that are fresh yet bright with elements of Szechuan cuisine but also distinct elements of pickling and "red-braised cooking" from the Shanghai River delta. A former lawyer who refocused his career during the pandemic, no doubt a bold move but at the same time unsurprising to anyone who'd dined with Rich, it is alongside his cousin X that Minyoli works largely as a two-man show while showcasing an equally personal sort of Food. Busy on Saturday afternoon, the staff of just five at lunch serving a nearly full house, Noodles arrived piping hot with the medium-spicy Ganban glistening beneath tender Shank and Niuroumian Beef Noodle Soup a worthy signature bolstered by melting Tendon. Love what Minyoli is doing here & I am always going to support Taiwanese/ Taiwanese American businesses, but don't come here expecting "traditional." I can appreciate that they're doing their own thing like adding dang gui (當歸) to their beef noodle soup broth, but it ain't gonna taste like your Ah Ma's & for me - that's totally okay! We ordered the majority of the menu - per my usual ordering style: *Lu Wei 滷味 - if you're not familiar, it's like braised starters typically served cold. These reminded me of home in a good way :) *Both Niu Rou Mian - the "red-braised" (紅燒牛肉麵) and the consomme version (清燉牛肉) - the latter is so so unique but again using dang gui is probably polarizing for most diners lol. Minyoli, a Taiwanese restaurant, is a great and rare find. I went there on recent winter night, and I enjoyed the warm cozy atmosphere. First, the food was excellent. I ordered the shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer, the red-braised niuroumian and Taiwanese fried chicken rice as mains and the Taipei style cheesecake. The fried chicken dish was delicious and a very elevated version of the popcorn chicken often sold in boba shops. The red-braised niuroumian had a flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. The cocktail she sells shallots by the Seashore was nothing like I've had before. I enjoyed it, but be warned that it is shallot forward, and maybe not for everyone. The service was excellent. The wait staff was courteous, informative and our food came out fast and hot. The ambiance was warm and cozy and the decor was simple, but inviting. Let me start by saying that the dishes on the menu are such fun and fresh ideas and I really appreciate that vast array of gluten free options. The interior was also really cute! However...we received some of the worst service I have ever received in my life. Our server was extremely stand offish and he couldn't be bothered to check on us half the time. He cut my friend off when she was asking about a drink on the menu and was very short with her with his answer. Anyone can have a bad day, but this felt very targeted. Great dinner the other night with my wife. Loved the ambiance and the service was great. Waiter made some great suggestions. My wife had the Clay Pot Duck which was the special that evening and it was cooked perfectly and served over crispy rice. We shared the crispy chicken and the street corn both had great textures and flavors. I had the spicy noodle soup with beef. Must have been 16oz of beef and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The broth was not overly hot. The heat just built over time. Will be back. read more

Minyoli is one of the few Taiwanese spots in Chicago, so we were definitely excited to try it out! my boyfriend was craving some warm beef noodle soup, which i loved. overall, both noodle dishes were light on the flavor but in a pleasant and comforting way. the taiwanese fried chicken is a must-order - the sour plum powder that's sprinkled on the chicken creates the perfect combo of sweet & salty. service is also homey and friendly - we enjoyed chatting with the staff while seated at the bar! read more

We came here to try out the hand cut noodles. In the heart of Andersonville, this is an excellent location and a lovely restaurant. There's a back patio I never saw but on a nice day with the front windows open, it's just as good. The bathrooms are also super clean and spacious 10/10. Our drinks, we ordered some of the Taiwanese root beer. Root beer fans, I highly recommend it! It has a real nice kick to it. The mango beer was yummy too. The real star, however, was the Judy AhYi's Secret. The tapioca pearls in this cocktail were amazing. For appetizers, we got some of the fried snacks. The sweet potato fries were surprisingly sweet, almost dessert-like. Really yummy! The mushrooms were also good. It might be a little disappointing if you're looking for a flavor profile that's more than one note, but they definitely got me hungry for more. I got the Niuroumian red-braised beef. I got mine with just beef, but it can be ordered with tendon, or half and half. The item is marked spicy on the menu, but frankly, I barely even noticed any spice. The beef was fall apart tender. Maybe one sad note of the night was that my friend's Spicy Tallow came out of the kitchen colder than our other dishes. Not sure if maybe because it didn't have broth or a lot of mix-ins, it was made first and allowed to sit for a bit longer. Still a restaurant we plan to visit again. I wasn't impressed by this place. To start both drinks I tried ordering they didn't have - bloody marys and Shirley temples. To their credit the server said they do bloodys on Sundays and the bartender did come over and offer to make me some sort of version of a Shirley though it just sounded expensive and I didn't feel like paying for a mocktail when all I wanted was some 7 up and grenadine. Next, our food took forever. I'm a pretty patient person but even our appetizers (fried chicken, and some cold beef) took forever to come out. As did our main entrees. My friend ordered their special of the night which was some kind of crusted steak . It wasn't very flavorful and my friend asked if she could switch out the Cole slaw for a regular veggie , but they never did. Took forever to get the servers attention to correct so my friend didn't even need the veggies at that point. The server said she'd take a discount off for the mistake but when she brought the bill there was nothing taken off the bill. I would say you're better trekking to Argyle. read more
