This is one of our favorite sushi restaurants when we are visiting San Diego. Don't let its appearance fool you! It looks a bit outdated but the food is delicious and service is quick! The server doesn't speak much English but is attentive and has a fun personality! Super close to mission bay and mission Beach! We've always been lucky with parking but could see how on busier days, parking could be a little difficult. read more

Location is 2 blocks from Mission Beach. Walking distance from Bahia Resort. If you're driving, the best bet is to park at the large mission beach parking lot and cross the street. Mizu has a lot but it's 2-3 cars max. It's a Japanese restaurant owned and run by Korean folks so there's a solid amount of Korean options on the menu. The restaurant looks old but honestly so does everything else near the beach -- the food and service is wonderful. We came on a Sat evening around 6. It was busy but we didn't have to wait for a table (bonus!) We were sat and served water immediately and took our drink/ apps order. We split a mixture of sashimi, rolls, udon, and a kids meal. The fish was fairly good quality, the udon was savory, and the kids meal was huge. Best part is it's SO affordable considering it's location. This family owned restaurant was a great find & convenient from the Bahia resort hotel. The tofu seafood soup was one of the best I ever had. The crab roll was so well crafted & delicious! We came back again & ordered those same dishes. The ginger salad & cucumber salads hit the spot. Definitely a place to go again whenever you are in the area. I highly recommend this place. read more

Everything was okay, man who served us was very nice but the woman whom I believe was the owner was very rude and when we asked a question about an ingredient, she explained it in a horrible tone and when we were confused with what she was trying to explain, she started screaming the same thing over and over again instead. Last night I was in the mood for something healthy and didn't feel like grocery shopping or cooking. On a Sunday night, several of the sushi restaurants nearby stopped offering delivery, so we settled on Mizu. I ordered the sashimi salad and a miso soup. My husband ordered the Temptation and Spider Rolls. The menu was pretty vast, as they also offered Korean dishes and some stir fry dishes. Our order cam quickly and the soup was still hot. The order was correct, which is a plus... doesn't always happen. At first look, I thought there wasn't much sashimi on the salad, but that was only because there was also a seaweed salad and a large serving of cucumber hiding it. There was lots of sashimi and a slightly spicy dressing. It was actually really good! I also enjoyed my miso soup and my husband liked his sushi rolls. I would definitely order again! read more

We ordered the baked mission beach roll, tuna sushi, yellowfin tuna sushi, and a child's teriyaki plate. Also, a tempura appetizer. The sushi was delicious. Quick service and fresh, delicious food at a decent price. What more could you wish for? I ordered takeout from here on a Sunday at about 2 pm and the whole process of first being greeted by the host to getting our meal was probably about only 10 minutes. The service was definitely fast so that really impressed me! I got the Special Spicy Tuna Roll and Philadelphia Roll. The Special Spicy Tuna Roll was SO GOOD and an instant favorite for me! There was a generous amount of tempura on it, which I absolutely loved. Normally I don't really eat Philadelphia Rolls because restaurants tend to put too much cream cheese and it grossed me out, but my husband wanted to share it so I went for it. Mizu put just the right amount of cream cheese and I loved the roll. Our tab for that order was roughly $21 (minus the tip) so it was a decent price. The fish tasted nice and fresh and left us feeling satisfied. I'd for sure recommend this spot and stop by again if I'm in the area! This place is amazing. My family and I came on a Friday evening and there was hardly anyone in there! The people who work there were all so kind, approachable, and attentive. We got the cucumber salad, Agedashi tofu, tuna and avocado roll, Cali beach roll, spicy chicken, and two beers. ALL UNDER $60. Honestly this is unheard of to me, especially considering the prices of the nearby Cannonball sushi place. Overall this was a such a lovely restaurant and felt much more authentic than all of the other food options nearby. If you are looking for yummy Japanese food, a calm atmosphere, and great service, give Mizu a try. read more

Our family has a tradition of coming here, and we love it every time. The food is superb, served by friendly members with fast service. Ok, this place is amazing. If you're looking for romantic ambiance, this is not the place for you. If you care more about big portions and quality fish, Mizu is highly recommended. The sushi roll fish portions are HUGE and incredibly fresh. It's just a couple blocks off the boardwalk and reasonably priced - way less than nearby options like Cannonball. The servers work incredibly fast, I've never seen prompter service. read more

This is the definition of a "Hole in the Wall" restaurant that has great tasting food! When I walked in, I was not necessarily impressed by the ambience, but when the food arrived I was pleasantly surprised... I was initially greeted by an Asian woman who was very nice and accommodating. She allowed me to mix both beef and chicken with the Japanese Yakisoba noodles and vegetables. Then, after a short wait, another lady came out from the kitchen and served the meal. The portions are absolutely gigantic! They provided both noodles and rice along with beef, chicken, and vegetables in savory spices. When I added some soy sauce, this dish really hit the spot! The meal also came with a salad donned w/ a very tasty ginger dressing. The Miso soup was legit, as it had an authentic taste. Overall, the entire meal was very good... This goes to show you that you don't need a big corporate trendy spot with expensive decorations and artwork in order to serve great tasting food with welcoming customer service. The only reason that I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 stars, is that it needs a good deep clean in order to appeal to a wider audience... Besides the appearance of the restaurant, this is some of the best Japanese food served in the beach communities. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! it gives me Convoy vibes - no frills, good rolls, not the most sauce options, but it's one lady serving the whole restaurant and the views are good. You can PADDLE BOARD UP TO IT, park your boards on the beach and look over them from the amazing panoramic windows inside. read more

Super cheap sushi and friendly family vibes from the staff. You can tell this place is a place you have in your back pocket as it's a restaurant that won't let you down for your sushi cravings. This was evidenced by the regulars seen in the restaurant where the staff remembers your usual order The sushi was sooo fresh and melt in your mouth. I love that they give you fresh cut oranges at the end of the meal paired with a fortune cookie haha. read more

We were staying nearby and I needed food for my kid. I ordered the kids chicken cutlet for $7 and it was huge! And yummy. Panko coated chicken with katsu sauce and a ton of rice. Made two meals for my 8 year old. I shudder to think what the adult size looks like. I know I got the kids' size because when I went to pick up it, the server expoing the food kept saying "baby chicken cutlet". Lol. If my 8 year old went with me to pick up she'd be so mad. She's a big girl! :) I also got the mango sushi roll, tuna nigiri, salmon nigiri, and Mission Bay roll. All delicious. The Mission Bay roll was a stand out. Spicy tuna roll topped with salmon and a thin slice of lemon. Amazing. Super inexpensive for this area. A really good value. And ready in 10 minutes when I ordered around 4:30 pm. The sushi was huge! I had to start off with that. Because it was great big pieces of salmon. I wish I took more pictures of the rolls. They were amazing and fresh. The noodle plate was also a nice portion. This place was located in walking distance from our hotel. Has a nice view of the bay. Inside is older and could use a little work. Their bathroom was under construction. But for good sushi, that doesn't matter. The waitress deserves a gold medal. She was serving every table, running around making sure everyone was taken care of. She was super sweet. She kept calling me momma (I am a mom and my girls were there- it was sweet). She was awesome! Great job! read more

After eating at Cannonball, and being a bit disappointed (I don't believe it's a truly authentic Japanese restaurant), Mizu was just as good as other genuine Japanese restaurants we've been in. In other words... AWESOME! Yes, Cannonball has a nice ocean view, but you're paying for the food, not the view/atmosphere. And if you're gonna spend $75+ on a meal, you want an excellent TASTE experience. And Mizu has it in spades! The service was friendly and excellent as well! We will definitely be coming back to Mizu. Cannonball doesn't hold a candle to Mizu at all, in my book! read more

The food here was amazing for the price! Got lots of rolls for a reasonable cost. The staff here were quick to help us and always checking in to see if we needed anything or asked if we were enjoying our food. You can tell that the woman who was running this restaurant really cares and cared about her guests enjoying their meals. She paid great attention to all of the patrons. The windows were open to let in the ocean air which we liked. This place definitely gives off mom and pop vibes vs the usual 'trendy' vibes of sushi restaurants I've been to in the past, but that always means the food is gonna be amazing! We're just visiting from out of town, but if we ever visit again we would be sure to stop by here again! read more

But it was a lesson he needed to learn and i didnt want my discomfort to hinder that. (Mind you the bathroom was in the middle of the stairs lol midway the lower and the upper floor). Tuna is from Mexico, most veggies and fruits were from Chino farms.

It is not surprising as this Michelin 1 star since 2021 is quite the tiny, yet comfortable setting that continues to get high praise. Unlike several of the other Michelin guide or Michelin Star sushi establishments, they offer more than just Omakase. While the do offer Full Omakase for $189, Nigiri Omakase for $140, and Petite Omakase for $65, they also allow you to order nigiri, sashimi along with multiple other specials and cut rolls. On our first walk in experience, we ordered the Petite Omakase which included 4 seasonal dishes, 6 pieces of sushi, a light fish broth, and a small dessert, we also ordered some add-on sushi. On our first reservation here, we opted for the Full Omakase, which was absolutely amazing. It is hard to find any fault in the experience here as everything is done with such meticulous care, and exceptional service, making you feel welcome. I cannot recommend Soichi enough!

Having done a fair share of omakase from places like Kinme and Matoi, I feel like this isn't that much more memorable or special and I'd hate for it to follow the same path Tadokoro did where they were absolutely my #1 choice and fell after they got their star (which they later lost). Still love that Chef Soichi continues his tradition of birthday serenades with his guitar and the place still has that mom and pop charm so I hope they continue to thrive!

The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

We had a ribeye steak to share that was perfectly cooked medium rare and the butter was delicious for the sides. We had the truffle fries and we had the onions on red wine. The onions were my favourite part of the sides. I could not leave without the dessert and we decided to go with a banana foster. They do a table side show that was amazing and it was a delicious dessert. Service throughout the night was great. Overall, I will say that I will be back for Drinks and if we decide to have a meal here, I would definitely get the Caesar salad the onion on red wine side and the banana foster. The steak was good, just not great I would be willing to try a different cut or protein. For the pricetag, I would've expected everything to be great, which is why four.

After a fun day at Sea World, my family and I were hungry, and I was craving sushi. Of course, I checked Yelp for recommendations of a great sushi restaurant nearby, and I found this place. First thing, this place is not glamorous at all. It's actually a little rundown, and I almost changed my mind about it. But then again, it had great reviews, and I wanted to give them a shot! We were seated in the back with what seemed like a private room. I was happy about that. Now, let's talk about the food. We started with miso soup, which was a pleasant experience. The Mission Bay roll was a highlight, and the other rolls were decent. However, the sushi wasn't exceptional. The salmon sashimi was good, but the rainbow roll was not super fresh, so we couldn't finish it. On the positive side, my kids thoroughly enjoyed their California rolls. I also ordered a Junmai Ginjo to drink, and it was really strong, but that's just my personal preference. I think if you prefer strong-tasting alcohol, then this is a good choice. My husband had a bottle beer, and he was fine with it. The service was great, and I can tell that the owner really cares about her establishment. I recently visited a Japanese restaurant in Mission Beach and had a great experience! I ordered the dumpling soup, and it was fantastic--lots of dumplings in a flavorful, comforting broth. The service stood out as well. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. The restaurant itself has an old-fashioned vibe. While the interior could use some updates, it's still a decent and cozy place to enjoy a meal. I also noticed they have a few Korean food options on the menu, which is a nice bonus. This restaurant has an array of delicious appetizers that you can either scarf up yourself or share with friends. There are so many other entrees that I personally love, for instance the katsu curry--oh, jeez it's soooo good! I mean it's soooo friggin' good. I've tried Japanese curry at other Japanese spots and nothing can compare to the curry here. The tempura udon is fantastic as well! Can't complain about their awesome sushi, either. I've been a regular for a few years already and this is my favorite sushi place in San Diego!! the food is awesome and the service is good. And the view of the Mission Bay during the daytime is so beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place just for a simple lunch or a big dinner. Mizu is very well rounded with its style of food as it has both korean and japanese cuisine. It was my first time going to this restaurant and i am ABSOLUTELY coming back !! The people are especially kind and tend exactly to what you'd like. I tried the tofu soup and salmon roll & sashimi. the tofu soup was to DIE FOR, it was excellent and i wanted more if i'm being honest. I'd recommend the sea bream nigiri off the special menu and hand rolls to your fish preference. For cut rolls that are unique they have one topped with caviar that is pretty amazing. The Agedashi tofu is spectacular here, lots of places mess it up. The service is warm and welcoming. We have been going here since 1994, the restaurant looks exactly the same and the food has remained impeccable, the owners still run the place and it's a bit of a hidden gem.

The chef was wonderful and professional, as was the staff. The sushi bar counter top and menus could do with a cleaning, they were a bit sticky. And the restaurant had an odd smell when we walked in. It is close to where we stay and we will most likely go back, or order to go.

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but they do have seating that can accommodate a larger group, and some tables can be combined if it's not too busy. We came around 6pm when the restaurant was about 3/4 full, but within 20 minutes every table was filled. The only downside was the service speed. We waited a while to be seated and also had to wait some time before the waitress/cashier was able to help us. It seemed like they were pretty busy during dinner rush though. Overall, good Thai food with solid spice levels and a cozy atmosphere. I'd come back again for the food.
