Roast duck flavor has changed. We've been coming here (when it was inside HK2) for 4 years. We always get the whole duck. Few times chicken. Their roast duck taste and flavor was great. It was our go-to only place for roast duck in Rowland Ht since 2020 (prior to them it was Sam Woo on Colima for 15 years). So few weeks ago I came to them, first time since they moved to outside, to get my usual whole toast duck to-go. We arrived around 4:30pm Sunday. There was a line and the line was moving very slow, very slow. I think one of the workers (who cuts the duck) was on break. So we get our duck and bring it home and ate it for dinner. One bite, and immediately we know the taste has changed. The taste was much lighter. A lot less flavorful. It's also evident because the duck juice color was also lighter. Simply put, the taste/flavor is much worse than before. The meat itself was fine. I wonder if owner or cook is changed. So I'll be looking for a different roast duck seller. read more

MK BBQ is a Chinese BBQ place located in Hong Kong Supermarket. It's located past the food aisles near the back of the supermarket adjacent to Fresh Meat Service. I usually get the Roasted Crispy Duck. It's a whole duck and it is a pretty big duck. They chop up the whole duck so no you're not carrying that whole duck by the neck all the way home. They chop it up nicely so each piece has a good amount of meat. The duck is very tender, juicy, and savory. The duck skin is thick and even the fatty part under it was tasty. Their duck has a lot of meat compared to other duck places I've been to. Seriously, their duck is the best I've had thus far. Their Soy Sauce Chicken is also pretty good. Like the Roasted Crispy Duck, they chop it all up. The chicken meat is very tender and the skin is soft and light in flavor. The soy sauce flavor is evenly distributed throughout the meat so it is very flavorful. None of the food is photogenic at all. I mean when the roasted birds are hanging it looks terrifying and when it's all chopped up it doesn't look pretty either. But hell, it's all delicious. The owner and his wife that run this place are both very friendly. Overall, a great take out place for Chinese BBQ. Their crispy roast duck and soy sauce chicken are fantastic. Disclaimer: Rowland Heights Chinese BBQ sucks. If you want good roast duck, roast pork, or bbq pork, go to Monterey Park. MK BBQ is a welcome addition to the Rowland Heights area for Chinese BBQ. They are located inside of HK Supermarket near the back of the store. They have roast duck, roast pork belly, and bbq pork (char siu). They sell their meat by the pound, or as a lunch combo with rice. Their prices seem to be cheaper than their competition. I had most of their meats in a lunch combo. Their roast duck is flavorful. It might be better than the Sam Woo in Rowland Heights, but, that is not saying much. They use pork belly for their roast pork. The roast pork is good. The pork skin is nice and crunchy. The meat is nice and moist, not dry like some places. Char siu is decent with a good flavor. Their combos are cheap. My only complaint is that they don't give enough meat. But, then again, their combos are a few dollars cheaper than their competition. The latest photos look like they are giving more meat. Service is good. The employees are nice and friendly and did not make fun of my Chinglish. It's a decent BBQ in the Rowland Heights area. They may be as good, if not better than Sam Woo. I just had food delivered by Door Dash. The delivery was perfect. The order not so much. It was totally wrong. I ordered the two items for $21.83. It was the absolutely the wrong order. You are supposed to choose two items which I did, not that it mattered. I asked for roast pork and duck. I got soy chicken and chasu or honey pork. How is that remotely the same? Oh wait! Chicken and duck are both poultry and roast pork and honey pork both come from pigs. That must be it. Door Dash customer service was excellent. They refunded my money which was great. Thank you. They have plenty of options for a lunch combo: 1-item, 2-item, 3-item, etc. I picked up the 2-item box with charsiu and roast duck. rice is decent, not too soft or hard. Charsiu is very delicious: tender, not too overly marinated in red dye, flavor is just right, not too strong. Roast duck: it's decent, there's some fat underneath the skin. My friend Charlie has been raving about this place for weeks and I finally found time to check it out during lunch time. Located inside Hong Kong supermarket as the deli department all the way in the back, it sure was hard to find. After walking around the whole area (except going inside to the supermarket, sigh), the nice cashier at the supermarket finally pointed it out for me. The place is dirt cheap and everything looked amazing. They have all the Hong Kong bbq items. Roasted pig, roasted duck, oil chicken, braised cuttlefish, etc. They also sell lunch box starting at $4.99 for one item that comes with some veggie over rice, and you can pick any items they have. The only thing I dislike about was the meat portion I received for my lunch box. Sure it was cheap but at the same time, after picking 3 items, I was looking at 4 pieces of chicken, 5 pieces of chashu, and 4 tiny chunks of roasted pork with a field of rice. That's just not enough for a fatty like me, even though it was very delicious. I feel you will get more for your bucks if you just buy the meat only. Cash only, will come back for sure. It saddens me to give them such a low rating because I usually do all my duck buying here. Came on 5/15 to pick up a whole duck for my dads birthday and I believe it was the owner who ran me up. I'm grateful all these essential businesses are open and I always try to leave a tip, even if it's just takeout. I tipped $5 in the jar and the owner told me he has some special "very good" duck sauce he will give me. WOW free anything is so nice and shows they appreciate their customers. I waited while the other guy chopped up my ducky duck and I saw he isn't wearing gloves. Whyyyyyy. Especially during this time everyone is super aware and paranoid for germs/cross contamination. I let it go.. maybe I should have spoke up but I've been getting duck from here for awhile now and I don't remember if they ever wore gloves ? So I let it go. Long story long lol I got home and the "special" sauce he gave me EXPIRED. And not like a month ago. It expired Nov 2019. Makes me wonder about their quality control. And yes.. The dopest Hong Kong-style BBQ you can score in Rowland.....at cheap prices too! This place doesn't get the credit it deserves when judging solely on their food...mostly because MK BBQ is kind of in a weird location. You have to park your car in the plaza's parking lot, walk INSIDE the general building, into HK2 Market, and the small storefront is located all the way at the BACK of the market near the fresh seafood section. It's most definitely worth the (short) trek though!! They sell all kinds of Hong Kong style BBQ meats such as Crispy roasted duck, BBQ pork, Crispy roasted pork, and more, all by the pound. And you can also order by number of items in a combo such as by 1, 2, or 3 items. Everything that I've tried there is very authentic-tasting and has a good smoky flavor without being too overly sweet or salty. Prices are cheaper than their big-name counterparts like Sam Woo. My favorite 3-item combo is soy sauced chicken + BBQ pork (a must get!) + pig's intestines with rice and broccoli! Although the taste is on point, I feel that the portion size for the meats are a bit small... Like one portion of BBQ pork is just one medium piece cut into 6 or 7 sad small quarter-sized bites. Just that only complaint I have. From the Yelp pictures, the meat portion looks decent and it's just the right amount for me but I have comparatively small stomach space so it DEFINITELY will not fill up a guy with a big appetite. The store is run by an older Chinese family, so English might be a little difficult to communicate with, but ordering should not be a problem. Another thing is that they often close on random days and run out of some meats early on (especially Crispy smoked duck), so I always call ahead to make sure they still have it. But definitely try this place out!! I always pick up a combo after work when I'm feeling like rice with damn good BBQ meats. Three and a half stars. I was in the mood for Hong Kong style char siu (bbq pork). Found this place via Yelp. It was challenging to find since it is inside a market a ways back off of Colima. There are several interesting places adjacent to the market, a Chengdu Taste, a Dong Bei Hometown Restaurant, a Sichuan Hot Pot restaurant as well as a Hokkaido Ramen joint. I opted for the one item bbq pork over rice since that was what I was craving. The roast duck, shoyu chicken, and crispy roast pork all looked good too. As far as the taste and flavor, it was average. I've had better so I was a little disappointed. It wasn't bad by any means but not exceptional. The rice had sweet soy sauce drizzled on it which gave it a nice flavor. A few strands of Chinese greens was placed alongside the char siu. Cash only. This is a takeout stand, not a restaurant. Crispy roast pork and tender soy sauce chicken. So glad Yelp had this little gem shown to me. The rice combos were great and they were generous with their portions. The crispy duck was one of the best ducks I've ever had and others agreed with me too since I shared with them. I would avoid the char siu because it had a weird after taste, could be the honey marinade they used. Also they were pretty hard for char siu when they should be tender. It is hidden in the back of a big supermarket but nothing from the market interested me. If I was back in this area I would definitely return to MK BBQ and go for the roast pork, soy sauce chicken and crispy duck, everything else is iffy for me. Do not come to this place! My first time getting soy sauce chicken and roast duck from this place for Chinese new year. I waited outside in the long line for two hours after getting my roast duck and soy sauce chicken as I'm driving home I touched the chicken and the duck to see if it warm and it's was cold to the touch, I am very disappointed I will not recommend anybody coming to this place. Quite possibly the best Chinese BBQ spot in all of Rowland Heights. I've been a customer here for several months and totally forgot to write a review for them. I first came across MK BBQ because my girlfriend was really craving some Crispy Pork. I had been to almost all the Rowland Height BBQ joints except for this one. I'm not exactly a fan of all the other locations as well, because none of them really shine. We happened to come across MK on yelp and wanted to give it a shot. It is curiously located at the back of HK Market. If this is your first time, you will surely be confused as you walk through aisles of fresh produce and packaged snacks and wonder if the location is actually on the outside plaza area. ("Hong Kong Plaza? You mean outside where all the other restaurants are??" "No no, I swear it's in the fucking market, just keep walking.") It isn't located by the other restaurants because it is not a restaurant. It is right next to the Butcher and Seafood sections of the market, all the way in the back. All I can say is that their food is top notch. The BBQ master himself is from Mong Kok, Hong Kong and has been doing this line of work for decades. This is my go to for Chinese BBQ and for good reason, extremely friendly service, very good prices, and incredible food. The service here has always been friendly, and I have been here numerous times. My cantonese is not the best but I have always managed to order perfectly fine, and I have seen customers who don't speak any chinese at all and they have had no problems ordering as well. The employees themselves don't speak too much english but they understand pointing and numbers, it really isn't that hard. I have never seen them act anything other than incredibly friendly and helpful. Prices are insanely reasonable. I usually come here for a lunch plate which is around 6 or 7 dollars, quite the steal considering they give you meat, rice, and a side of vegetables. I have only ordered Crispy Pork by the pound, and that is around 14 dollars a pound which is also very cheap compared to local competitors. As for other Yelpers complaining about the scamming prices, they literally weigh the meat in front of you and ask if it's okay (for non-chinese speakers they give you a thumbs up or thumbs down). I understand the language barrier is confusing but please don't falsely accuse people, it's kind of fucked up. Please please come by and give this spot a try. It is NOT a sit down restaurant but it's one of the BEST date nights that my girlfriend and I do, we'll each get our own plate, eat in the car, and listen to music and talk. I found this place at Yelp and saw the picture. So I decide to come to this place. But turn out this place, it wasn't that grate. First, the worker are not helpful. I ask them for half pound of squid. They told half of the squid. I say half pound, not half of the squid. The women say NO! I can't sell you half pound. So then I say, I don't want it. This is not a restaurant, it is a pickup counter in a grocery store, not easy to find cause all the signs are written in Chinese Characters. No place to sit or utensils to eat with; strictly a takeout place! Consists of s small hot-table and a glass display case to hang the duck and crispy pork. We got 1/2 Crispy Roasted Duck, 1/2 Lb. bbq pork, and 1 1/2 Lb. Crispy Pork which is actually pork belly with crispy skin, the Chinese Style Pork Belly never has much seasoning; it could really use some salt - that being said I really like it this way with super-crispy skin - killer w a little dip in the plum sauce! They have a butcher block and a skillful carve-master with a cleaver slicing & chopping your order. Bbq Pork is very tasty with a glazed coating the keeps it tender & juicy - awesome sauce for the glaze. The Duck was tender & juicy but not at all crispy!? They charge $5.99 for 2 items with rice and 3 times for $6.99 with rice. I've tried their BBQ pork, chicken, roasted duck a few times and never disappoint. Even the veggie that came with the rice is delicious, and I'm not a veggie person. The food here is better than most of HK BBQ pork restaurants around 626 area.
