We have been coming to Moby Dick's for about 8 years and the food and service here has always been excellent. Every time we are on the Cape, this is a must visit restaurant. Sometimes people are biased in their reviews because of fond memories rather than objective observations, I try to make this objective. Some people have commented about the lack of skill with some staff - the staff are not professional servers you find in a high end restaurant, they are mostly young people (students?) from overseas working there for the summer. In my experience they have always been pleasant, friendly, and helpful, I have no complaints. The food is very good and what you expect for a summer meal on the Cape - fresh simple seafood. The basic must try are always the steamers, mussels and scallops - we've had all three many times and have always been happy. They also have kebobs, tuna, crab cakes, lobster rolls, fried, etc., all good but cannot beat the three I mentioned. The sides are basic (baked potato, fries, etc.) and average, but I am there for the seafood which is excellent. There are lines in the summer to get in, but it is a BYOB and they are happy to provide you with ice buckets, wine glasses and corkscrew while you drink (wait) in line. Best Crab Cakes!! I stopped in the other day for a quick lunch. I had the seafood gumbo and a crab cake. Both were very good, and I do have to say it was one of the best crab cakes I have had. Most restaurants use way to much bread crumbs etc., and very little crab meat. Moby Dick's Crab Cakes are pretty much 95% crab - they way it should be in a perfect world. read more

This establishment is the best place I have ever been to. I had the absolute best time. The food was great, but that wasn't even the highlight of the restaurant, it was one of the workers, Richard. All of the workers were amazing, but Richard was the absolute best. He honestly deserves a very big raise. He was the kindest man I have ever encountered. He gave my table the best laugh we've ever had. I really wanted an autograph or a picture, that's how good of a time I had. Please if you can visit this establishment, do it. Completely underwhelming, spent $50 for a lobster roll and a salad and feel like were taken advantage of. Theme and atmosphere is cute but also all of the food was served on paper plates and plastic cups. Felt like eating at a seafood restaurant at the airport where it's too much for mediocre food, no service and you're being rushed out. Clam chowder seemed like it was from a can, fries seemed they were frozen, and you pay before you sit so it's too late by the time you find out. Stopped in for a late afternoon snack. The steamers were the best we've had in years! Tender and sweet and not the least bit chewy. There was also absolutely no sand in them. We didn't even have to dip them in the broth to eat them, although what's the fun in that? Everyone was super friendly and the staff was super attentive. A must for any Cape Cod visitor. Casual seafood joint that delivers tasty fried goodness for a decent price (not cheap, mind you, but decent). My friends and I enjoyed it enough that we went twice while visiting The Cape. The Fried Seafood Platter is probably the best bet, offering a plethora of Fried Clams, Shrimp, Scallops, and Cod along with a healthy dose of French Fries. On my second visit, I ordered a Fried Scallop Sandwich... topped with Bacon and melted Pepper Jack. Not the healthiest of choices, but it was great. Their Steamers and fresh Oysters were solid as well. Perhaps the best thing about the place is the fact that you can BYOB... my friends and I enjoyed a refreshing growler of Cape Cod Summer Ale. The staff is nice at this busy joint as well... you order at the counter and they bring you your food a few minutes later. Ordered take out for the family. Clam Strips, clam chowder, lobster roll, grilled shrimp and scallops, blackened shrimp and scallops, and fish n chips just to name a few. Fish and chips tasted fresh and weren't super breaded and didn't taste fishy. The "chips" (fries) could have been better, since we had takeout they were a bit soggy (typical of takeout fries though) but they were plain old fries anyway. Clam chowder was creamy and delicious with lots of potatoes. Clam strips were also really good, crispy yet not greasy. Not many "extras" to the lobster roll, just your classic lobster and bread. And both shrimp and scallops dinners were also delicious, however the blackened dinner was a bit too spicy for my taste. They also let us substitute corn for the coleslaw in some of the dishes, which is always a win in my book. Overall great dinner. read more

The service was great-- very friendly ladies working there!! The caesar salad was kind of piss poor though. The crutons were saturated in oil (did they FRY the crutons???) and the lettuce was very limp was from being overdressed and perhaps sitting out for awhile. Wife and I are on the cape for a recent high school reunion. Stopped at this restaurant as my wife loves lobster. I did travel advisor and blasted this place as I was letting my wallet make the decision. One has to remember, things in general are more expensive in the northeast. We live in a very spoiled area, vegas, that has no issues or high prices for the common man. Moby dicks lobster rolls were very good. Just wasn't big enough for our appetite and cost. Staff was very nice. They are very green conscientious and serve food and drink with high end paper and plastic for recycling. The owner is a good man and runs an honest business. I have been coming to Wellfleet for over 35 years and going to Moby Dick's is a favorite experience! I'm thrilled they are doing curb side pick up. That said I was very concerned when I came to pick up my food tonight. While sitting in my car, I could see inside and not only was the owner himself not wearing a mask and walking around but many workers as well! The only person masked was the one coming out to my car. This is Ma. and we are not out of the dark yet with Covid19! What are you thinking? Can't you set an example of how it's done so that we all feel safe ordering at your beloved restaurant this summer? The food, ambience, and dining experience are mediocre at best. The line to get into the restaurant which, in my opinion, is overrated. Their clam chowder and steamers are good but everything else is pretty average. We stopped there almost by chance. There was an accident in our way back from Cape Cod, so we stopped by this place to have dinner and kill some time. The place was full of local people, and they told us that is actually one of the best places in Cape Cod; most of them brought wine, since the place does BYOB. We got for food the lobster roll plate and the fish and chips. They were amazing! the service was fast (even though the place was crowded of people in the same situation). We regret we didn't order the oysters: according to the local people we met, they are excellent. But since we did not bring any wine, it was kind of awkward to try them with coke... My husband and I stopped by here after reading other reviews. We were not disappointed. I had the Lobster Bake, (1 1/2lb Lobster, ear of buttered corn and about 1-1 1/2lb clams) $37 and well worth it. Clams were clean and tasty. Lobster was sweet, fresh and very tasty. Came with bib, hand wipe, napkins, forks and claw crackers in a nice little pack. My hubbie had the fried clam platter, $16. Clam strips, fries and coleslaw. Clams were tasty, lightly battered and deep fried to perfection! Not chewy at all and very tasty. Coleslaw was also good! We both had the clam chowder. $5.25 each 8oz. Packed with clams, perfect thickness and again, very tasty! Cash only. You can bring your own beer/bottle of wine too. Would definitely go back. What a lucky stop! Probably the BEST clam chowder we've ever had, seriously. I had the crab cake sandwich: very, very good. One son got the fish and chips, he said the best fish he's had since fishing in the Boundary waters.Other son got Calamari, also very good. We got a dozen Wellfleet oysters, as good as it gets!! plus the owner, Todd, could not have been better suited for this business. He was a wealth of sightseeing knowledge, helpful when ordering food and can tell some good stories. Plus it has an excellent gift shop. Make sure you stop here!! read more

Stopped in here this past weekend for a family birthday / Father's Day dinner. Large group of around 12. We've driven by this place multiple times on our way up to Truro and always struck me as kind of toursity from the outside...which it kind of is :) That said, they do a great job with your standard seafood shack fare. Very similar to Arnold's down the way (in my opinion) with less of the fanfare and lines that come with Arnold's. Also better in the fact that there is wait service at the tables. You can go either way with ordering at the counter or having it served to you. Bonus feature (to me) is the fact that they don't have a liquor license. BYOB on the Cape! Helps keep the costs down when your slurping down Wellfleet oysters and local scallops. That's about it really. My scallops and oysters were prepared well. Nice serving size and the beer was mine...so cheap and tasty! read more

Wow! Our first trip out to the Cape and we run across this spot. I had fried clam strips and a cup of cl chowder. Susie had lobster bisque and crab cake salad with cranberries, pecans and Bleu cheese with a vinegrette. The portions were large and cooked just right. Very tasty. So yeah, it's always busy. There's always a line. But who cares? The food is some of the best on the cape and its BYOB! Love the fact that they give you a bucket full of ice for your beverages. They employee people from all over the world and they are as nice as can be and very happy to be there serving you. This was our first time at Moby Dick's and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere is super casual, staff is friendly and accommodating. And the food.... delicious!! We shared a Cape Cod salad, I had the broiled scallops and my husband had the broiled Cod and both were cooked perfectly and yummy! Leave room for dessert - the blueberry crisp was great! Since it was our first visit, we were not aware of the BYOB policy but we will remedy that because we will go back to Moby's before we leave the Cape! read more

So delicious and such nice staff. Had lobster bisque, clam chowder, a dozen Wellfleet oysters, a crabcake sandwich, and a lobster roll. All were fantastic. The lobster bisque only had tiny lobster bits in it, but the cream-based broth more than made up for that. Flavor was great -- not too much sherry. Lobster roll was awesome. Some people don't like this place, some others do. I'm one who does. It has a menacing line at peak times, but it moves pretty quick. The food is really good and quite a variety of options. The best part? You can bring your own booze and as much as you want. Although, I haven't tried bringing a full keg with me, I have seen others bring coolers. It does have picnic table seating as some other places, but what I like is that they direct you to spot instead of a free for all as some other places where literally there aren't enough free open spaces on the picnic table for your entire party. The staff also seem to be exchange or abroad students from all over the globe. It's nice to hear and see the different looking cultures and accents. If you haven't been here, definitely give it a try at least once. read more

I went to this restaurant after searching online for good lobster rolls in the area, and I have to say I was quite disappointed. Like other reviewers said, the lobster was just ok and didn't taste fresh, kinda mushy in texture. We also got a clam strip roll and clam chowder, both were pretty good. We've been here two years in a row now during our summer vacation on the Cape. The line is long but the food is pretty good. The lobster roll is balanced and full of juicy lobster and the Wellfleets are fresh and briny. Nice crispy fries. I had a bite of a friend's fried fish from his fried seafood sampler and it was underseasoned and flavorless. He said everything else in his basket was great, however. Too bad, as I love fish and chips! There is a pretty good kids menu so with a side of steamed broccoli, the toddlers had a relatively healthy meal of broiled salmon, french fries, and broccoli. read more

This place is my favorite restaurant in the Cape!!! The seafood is so fresh like they caught it out of the ocean just before they put in on your plate!! The fried clams and scallops are decadent! The scallops are the freshest anywhere. It is like butter!!! They have amazing clam chowder and this sinfully delicious cinnamon ice cream. What can you say about this place that hasn't already been told. MD's is probably one of the best restaurants at the cape for seafood!! Yes..one of the best. This place does conventional seafood exceptionally well. Nothing fancy about MD's - but there's no need for them to be fancy. The food is that good! This place fills up, and people wait outside at all hours of the night to get in and place their order because - well basically - it's just that good. Very fresh, not over-battered! Exceptional! Like I mentioned, you order and pay when you enter and then a waitress (typically a European exchange student visiting for the season) delivers your food. It's also worth mentioning, every time we've dined at MD's throughout the years - we have bumped into the owner. He is probably one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I'd say you get what you pay for here, but if you got what you paid for you'd have a much better meal and a lot less purgatory-bland fries. I came across this place on Yelp while looking for a place to go on a Saturday night without a reservation in the Wellfeet/Orleans area. We arrived at around 7:30 pm and only waited for about 30 minutes in line before placing our order. While not necessarily unique (Arnold's in Eastham has the same schtick), the "order, pay, get seated" system was refreshing, especially when you pretty much know what you want (fried seafood) before you even get there. Between two, we got the lobster roll platter ($21), the fried scallop platter ($21) and the fried calamari ($9). The fried calamari appetizer was the best of the three. I love calamari, and Moby Dick's seemed to know exactly how much to fry and bread them. However, I think it's pretty hard to mess up fried calamari; I have yet to have a bad experience. The lobster roll was very good, on par with most of the respectable seafood establishments in the area. The fried scallops were lightly breaded and fried (a positive), but I wouldn't order them again and they left no real impression on me. The main issue: I should never have to pay $20 to order fries with a side of seafood. I'm sorry; I understand seafood is expensive, but the fried scallop sandwich on the menu was $13 and I believe the lobster roll by itself was similarly priced (market price, though). That means I paid $7 for mediocre fries and mediocre coleslaw (trust me, there was at most a scallop or two more on the platter than the sandwich variety from the dish I observed in my proximity). What I learned from my experience on Moby Dick's: People on the Cape don't understand Yelp, don't really know what good food is, or are too rich to care about getting screwed on portions. read more
