The barista did a great job explaining the different beans and coffee that they serve. I also saw they have a pastry case with baked goods for purchase. So I've avoided this place because I'd always been skeptical of food trucks (Idk how I formed that prejudice *shrug*), but I was pleasantly blown away! Honestly, I've tried the 5 coffee places within a 10-min walk of me and I was always disappointed. One day, I saw a long line forming outside of this coffee truck. I decided to give it a go, and had the best latte on this side of the Hudson River (I'm usually in Manhattan). I've come back 2ce now and each time has been consistent so far. I really appreciate how the barista actually takes his time making my cup, and pulls the shot of espresso into a glass jar and then transfers to a to-go cup. In some of the other establishments around here, they spend maybe 1 minute making a drink that really should take 2+ minutes to make. Pricing-wise is pretty on-par with other shops in the area. I passed by this place to get on Path. This place is right by the entrance of Exchange Place station. You can't miss it! The barista knows the coffee well. He recommended me to order according to my request. He's super helpful. I also ordered by using the app "CUPS". This is a really good coffee plan if you do drink coffee often. The mocha I got was great. The foam was smoothy and the chocolate inside was good quality. I can taste the good coffee in it. Very trait tasty coffee located in the Harborside Atrium, just next to the Harborside ferry point. The coffee, although fantastic, is a little pricier than most places, but very much worth it. The spot is a little difficult to find, as they are inside the harborside building rather than at two exchange place. Additionally, they have nitro cold brew as well! read more

Yep! I can see how other reviewers perceive the owner to be rude. He could easily come off as rough around the edges and blunt. He came off as condescending but probably just being defensive as he wasn't aware of a promotion/program his Modcup was running as he had to call someone to verify. To his credit, he became nicer toward the end, possibly because he realize he doesn't have his own house in order (so to speak), or there was another customer arriving and watching. 2 stars instead of 1, because as a fellow local business owner here in DTJC, I also know the frustrations of staffing during the "Great Resignation" and challenges of operating during the pandemic. Totally agree with several of the reviewers who mention the poor customer service from the owner. I consider myself a coffee snob and appreciate the knowledge and expertise of coffee connoisseurs but the owner routinely comes off as arrogant and is more interested in pleasing himself and not his customers. I get that some shops won't serve any milk besides whole or not have non-dairy milk alternatives etc but I don't see what's so difficult about providing a little more milk if a customer asks nicely. I don't care that they source their beans from whatever or if they roast their beans a special way - blah blah blah...The problem is that their coffee is usually bitter and acidic - as such require more milk to mask the taste. I've been to the truck, the Heights and JSQ shop and have found the coffee and service to be the same at all 3 locations - subpar at best. read more

Wonderful coffee; I get the whole gamut from brew to espresso based drinks to cold brew and everything is delicious. Some reviewers complain about poor customer service which does not match my experience; all the baristas there have been great. They strongly care about coffee and will refuse to prepare it in ways they believe is bad but I think that's wonderful; they always explain the reason and suggest an alternative. The truck is locally famous likely because the owner and staff are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their craft and the product is so wide-ranging for a truck with such consistently high quality. The full menu and a full assortment of add-ons stocked are impressive for a truck and affirm the quality that its fine maintenance, cleanliness, and swift operations. The truck's distinctive corrugated steel design is wise, but the people make the food and the people make the place and Mod Cup is just that with happy, bright, engaging, and fully pro staff always. That they're happy makes consumers consciously and subconsciously happier to pay them hard-earned funds for their great product. I don't know how they maintain such variety in their menu from a truck but I'm glad they do. I always get the single-shot Americano with half milk and it's always a pleasure. Hopefully no one disrespects my choice in drink but if so, don't let that deter one from Mod Cup. read more

I go to the one located inside Harbourside Financial Plaza III. I appreciate a good cup of coffee and come here on a regular basis. I usually get drip coffee with milk for $3.00. The price is a bit more than what you pay at Dunkin, but well worth it for the quality. Coffee is pretty fresh, their current Ethiopian blend is a little bitter, but that's just my personal taste and they have had some great beans in the past. I will not be going back for two reasons: first the wait, they routinely take 7-15 minutes to prepare a cup of coffee. I know they take it seriously, but i have been to many coffee houses all over the world and never experienced such a long preparation time. Secondly and most importantly their customer service is appalling. The owner routinely and arrogantly provides poor service to his customers. I have seen him do it a number of times and puts himself above people due to his superior knowledge of coffee - a massive coffee snob! I'm ok with your appreciation of coffee, I even gave you the benefit of the doubt for taking too long to prepare it, but putting your customers down is bad business, so you've lost me. The final straw was today when I asked for more milk in my latte (because the new brew is decidedly more bitter than former brews), he told me that he wouldn't do it because this was a coffee shop, not a milk shop and to appreciate the coffee, it's not about the size. Gotta deduct a star for two things. First, they haven't had the nitro cold brew for weeks. If it's not on the menu, take it off the menu. Really too bad because it's a unique drink that I've never seen anywhere else. Second, today a colleague and I asked for the nitro (which they predictably didn't have) and so both ordered a drip coffee. The guy serving poured two americanos and said "here's your drip". If he'd simply said "we're out of drip, we have americanos," I would have had no problem with it. Instead, he seemed to knowingly serve both of us the wrong drink. I used to be a loyal customer who would get an ice coffee at 11 am all summer. However, I will no longer be patronizing the Mod Cup truck after a hostile interaction with the alleged owner. On 1 October 2014, I ordered two "iced coffees with cream" which for the past several months cost $4 each. When the "owner" informed me that his credit card machine was not working, I hustled to an ATM to retrieve cash. Upon my return, I handed $20 to the owner and received $10 back. As this was more than the normal cost, I inquired into why the price wasn't only $8 and was informed that "cold brew lattes" cost $5 each. When I preceded to inform him that I ordered two "ice coffees with cream" which have cost $4 each for the past three months and not "cold brew lattes", the "owner" began to give me an "education" on coffee. The "owner" confusingly described how he needed to combine the cold brew concentrate with some other cold coffee-colored liquid or the drink would have no flavor once the milk was added. As he failed to explain why the "iced coffees" that I had been ordering and drinking from the ModCup truck for the past 3 months were very flavorful and didn't need to undergo this complex process, his "education" seemed like nothing more than a sham to make me pay an extra dollar for each cup of ice with cold coffee and cold milk--deceptively referred to as a "cold brew latte". Accordingly, I told the "owner" that what he was telling me did not make any sense and sounded like "crap". He quickly reacted by grabbing both coffees from the counter of the truck and giving me my money back with no concern for my customer experience. Someone who cared about customers would have offered some sort of accommodation or at least attempted to please me. He clearly didn't care about retaining a loyal customer. I later called up ModCup's number listed on yelp (917) 371-3193 to complain about this service issue. Unfortunately, I reached the "owner" who I previously interacted with and still did not seem interested in retaining customers, instead informing me that he was an expert on coffee and been making coffee for many years. Here, I note that I am from Napoli, home to the best caffé and baristi in the world. The "owner" repeatedly and pretentiously referred to his concoction as a "cold brew latte". What a bullshit term! A latte contains espresso which is hot brewed. Further, a latte has significantly more milk than a cappuccino. His "cold brew latte" contained half a cup of ice, cold brew liquid, and a splash of milk. That's no latte! Somebody should go back to coffee school!!! read more
