Such a wonderful experience tonight! Fresh and flavorful, none of the dishes we ordered disappointed. The chicken tortilla soup is fantastic. The jerk chicken, Ropa Vieja and guacamole with pomegranate were excellent. And yes, order the churros!! We already made a reservation to go back. Beautiful interiors. Can't wait for the tapas bar to open!

I dined solo the two times I can here, both at the bar. The first time I had settled on a virgin…read moremojito but it was just so tart. I had to get a lot of extra syrup to make it drinkable. The bartender at least was very sweet and kept adding to it for me. They had been out of several other drink options unfortunately and this was one of the few non alcoholic options available. The Chilean sea bass dish was flaky on the outside, but it was not fully cooked in the very middle. They did refire it for me at least when I realized. The side was this veggie pea mix, but no starch of any sort. The only thing that allowed it to feel complete was their complimentary bread. That was nice and warm, and had a unique texture, and is very filling. It even came with dips, and I especially liked the olive oil with a sweet type of chili paste. I appreciated they gave me extra bread to finish off my dips. The meal had enough strong points that I thought maybe another night they would step it up after recalibrating from the busy day. Unfortunately the second time I went the food really did not hit the mark at all. The horchata they now had in stock, but it was one of the worst I have had. It just tasted like sweet milk. The ceviche mixto had been recommended to me the first visit, and I wanted something light, so I thought perfect! It was the blandest ceviche. Somehow it had no flavor and some of the fish in there did not taste fresh. The frozen beet decoration was visually interesting, but added nothing to the flavor. I didn't say anything because honestly I was tired, and was like I already had them refire my fish the first time and adjust my drink a bunch...I just was tired and didn't want to become a pain. I at least sat next to a really nice solo diner and had a fun chat. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and they have a small parking lot that doesn't have a fee to park. I feel like the concept is great, but the execution is not always on point.

Though service was attentive and they were nice about getting her a new one and not charging for it. One major yikes: The bathroom was filthy. Ok so I was so excited to go here. There is something really comforting about a tamale done right!…read moreThe glowing reviews and pictures seemed promising. The restaurant itself has a lot of character, it full of textures and colors, had a cute little fountain outside. It just feels homey and welcoming. The menu...is hella pricey for a tamale. I mean even with inflation these days I could get a tamale at most spots where I live for like half the price. I just told myself it's Sedona just except it lol so I went wild and got their extra special tamale with lots of topping to make it a more complete meal. I chose the chicken mole for my filling. I also got their dairy free horchata. First thing the horchata was delicious! Creamy, great texture, not to sweet, seasoned just right. Extra points for being dairy free as milk is not my bodies friend. The tamale however was a major let down. I was so close to just sending it back, but was on a time crunch and starving. The masa was so salty. The mole sauce was barely existent and had no complexity or flavor really. I didn't taste the chocolate or the Chile . Just blah. The toppings and horchata helped make it possible to consume despite the saltiness. So overpriced salty tamale gets 2 stars, ambiance 5, and horchata 5, which is why this place gets a three stars overall. I wanted to love this spot so bad, and maybe it was a bad day, or the wrong thing to get...but their name is literally tamaliza. Their tamale should have rocked my world.

Hostess in the pink shirt and curly hair kept staring and pointing at us while we were seated by someone else. Another person, Andrea, came over again to ask about our reservation and showed her the confirmation. I explained that this was the fourth time being asked about it and she laughed it off, very frustrating. It made eating there very uncomfortable and we chose to leave early. Edit: You moved us once, the server asked if we wanted to be moved to a nearby booth. I did not ask for anything to be taken off of the check. The server asked and I said no it's okay we will take it home cause we don't like wasting food. The restaurant was nice inside, clean, and the server was great, she kept apologizing. I'm assuming you are the original gentleman that seated us instead of the hostess. You asked me for the name on my reservation twice as well as two other servers. You appeared intoxicated so I didn't mind repeating myself for you. When we arrived we did not speak to the hostess at all, she was helping someone else, you stepped in. My boyfriend did not even taste the fish, like I said we try not to waste food so I know he would have tried to eat it at a later time. I had no problem paying for it. I posted the review because this is a trusted website that people use. It was a honest review. If you look at the feed it shows trends of how service can be improved. You keep editing and deleting your comments, it's very unprofessional. And once again. . . I DID NOT ASKED TO BE MOVED.

The anticipation was high, and unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the hype. For context, I'm from California and am accustomed to fresh, authentic Mexican food. To be fair, Elote Café does not claim to be authentic Mexican cuisine. If that's what you're looking for, this is not it. The menu leans much more toward a Tex-Mex/fusion style. Drinks The margaritas were fine. We requested Tajín rims, which they accommodated, but the presentation felt underwhelming for a restaurant of this reputation and price point. High-end cocktail programs typically include thoughtful touches--dried citrus, smoked cinnamon, herbs, or something that elevates the experience. These arrived as basic margaritas with salt and a lime wedge. Appetizers The complimentary chips and salsa were just okay. The salsa had an unexpected sweetness that didn't work for me. The famous Elote, however, absolutely deserves the praise. It was the best thing I ate all night--savory, balanced, and packed with flavor. Easily a 10/10. The guacamole was also excellent. No complaints there. Entrees The chicken enchiladas had flavorful chicken, but the green sauce was overwhelmingly tart and lacked the seasoning needed to balance that acidity. The shrimp and pork belly dish was disappointing. The pork belly was good, but there were only two very small pieces. The shrimp were underseasoned and lacked flavor. The carne asada was the biggest letdown of the night. It arrived covered in a red sauce that seemed to be attempting an enchilada-style sauce, topped with pickled onions and a slice of bleu cheese. While I appreciated the pickled onions, the bleu cheese felt like a strange addition to a carne asada dish. More importantly, despite being described as a prime cut skirt steak and cooked rare as requested, the meat was surprisingly tough. Rice&Beans The entrees came with rice and beans. The beans were acceptable, though nothing memorable. The rice, however, tasted like boxed or instant rice. At a restaurant where a dinner for four can easily approach $300, I expect better than something that tastes like it came from a pantry packet. It's a small detail, but details matter when a restaurant has built its reputation around being a must-visit dining destination. Dessert By this point we had no intention of ordering dessert, but we were celebrating a birthday and received a complimentary ice cream dessert. It was actually very good. The vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel sauce all tasted house-made and had a rich dulce de leche flavor. Final Thoughts Our bill was nearly $300 for four people, and the overall experience simply wasn't worth the cost. Aside from the elote and guacamole, most dishes felt underseasoned, unbalanced, or failed to justify the restaurant's reputation. What puzzled me most was seeing several empty tables throughout service. Given how difficult reservations are to obtain, I expected the restaurant to be completely full. This is one of those restaurants where the hype far exceeds the reality. If you're worried about missing out, don't be. In my opinion, you're not.
