The wait wasn't too bad since they have 5 people working. I asked for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. Totals to $47. I really wanted to like this place since it's close to my brow place, but I'm very disappointed in the manicure that I got. It's sloppy work-- she didn't polish to the tip or sides of my nails! And when I informed her, she added too much polish on top to try to fix it. And tried to file more! That doesn't fix the problem!! She also left gel polish on multiple spots on my hands and tried to scratch them off. read more

My secret gem of a nail salon just got better! I've been coming to Kim (gel mani) and Lily (pedicure) here for two years now. I finally found someone who's gel manis last me more than 10 days (try 2.5 weeks!) . My hands are in creams and water all day for my work and my nails were never able to withstand the moisture. I've been to every nail salon west of the 405 but have finally found my jam! Kim is also excellent at picking the latest or most classic of colors since I never know what to get. Do NOT come here for eye brows! A lady by the name Tina did my eyebrows, she double dipped, missed most of the eyebrows and when I asked her to tweeze she tweezed at most 2 hairs. To show her I took the tweezers and showed her and had to start tweezing them myself. Then she started cutting my eyebrows with large, paper scissors. She didn't use a little comb on my eyebrows either, she was just trying to push them down with her thumb. Someone was asking for her for nails so she must be good at that but definitely don't let her touch your face. read more

I've been looking for a good place for a good pedicure for the past year and half since I've moved to the area to no avail until I discovered Modern Nails salon just 2 blocks away from me. The set-up is like all the regular nail salons in the area except that this group of manicurists are friendlier than most. I LOVE Katie! She does such a god job with my toes! At most places they don't even scrub the dead skin off of my heels. I don't get that. What's the point of having a pedicure when your feet look exactly the same way you walked in with just a different nail polish on. Anyways, Katie takes her time to scrub my feet properly. The anatomy of my toes causes for some ingrown nails at time but Katie knows how to trim my nails perfectly to prevent that. She's super gentle, I don't feel a thing and my toes look fantastic. Do ask for Katie- she doesn't work every day though. 25 bucks for a mani/pedi that they take their time to do is a winner every time for me. read more

The best gel nails! I've only had them done here and at another place, though, so my experience is limited. But my nails look perfect and last forever! (Like, 10 days to 2 weeks). Anna is particularly sweet (she was recommended to me by my mom, who also goes to her), but all the girls are great. I've had gels from a couple of the other ladies too, and they all did a fantastic job. Parking is not bad at all on the side streets, and after 6pm, you don't need to feed the meter! read more

LADIES WHO GO IN FOR WAX SERVICE: I was sitting in the second to last chair with a direct view of the waxing room. I watched two women get waxed. First woman received a brow wax. The waxing lady used to same stick the entire service and stuck the stick in the wax while stripping off the wax paper. After this service, the wax was not changed. It was just covered back up. The second lady had brows and underarms. AGAIN the same wax was used and the same stick. The stick was placed in the wax once again while the wax strips where being stripped off. I was appalled and disgusted! THIS PLACE DOUBLE DIPS AND DOES NOT CHANGE THE WAX AFTER EACH CLIENT! $29 for a mani pedi but my lady was all over helping other employees and customers while I sat in the chair waiting (and seeing their disgusting waxing process). The mani was not the best. You get what you pay for. Terrible service and REVOLTING the way this place is ran- Stay away! read more

I love this salon!! It could use some updating but I've been going here for years. Today I did a full set of eyelashes, and they are wonderful! Lana did a great job with my lashes. I've used a few other salons in SM and not been very impressed. Lana uses a medical grade latex glue that will last a long time. The first set of lashes are $80 and $50 for fills. Lily is my favorite nail lady! She's wonderful and patient. She's always willing to change a polish if I don't like it and gives the best massages! She can make them look natural or long and luscious. I've had eyelashes done by five different people before Lana and I've never had them last as long as when Lana does them. Lana's lashes last 3 to 4+weeks. Lana is extremely meticulous, detailed, and a perfectionist. Lana's gel nails last 3+ weeks too! I've been a loyal customer of Lana for almost 2 years and have recommended many satisfied friends to her as well. Lana is also a lot of fun to talk to. I had Annie do my pedicure. Annie wants to do a perfect job as well and you can tell that she enjoys giving a pedicure which is rare to find. She really gets into it and wants to make sure you're satisfied. Went here for a gel mani and regular pedi. My mani chipped day one. The gel must be old/cheap who knows. I also asked for matching colors and they do not have matching colors.. or they just really didn't care much. They rush you and try to get you out of there as fast as they can. For some reason I decided to give them a second chance, not sure why. Second time around, gel chipped day one and started peeling day two. Also the woman started massaging me (not in a nice way) then asked me if i wanted a massage while I was getting a mani/pedi for more $$ I said no, then started doing it anyways....On a positive note, they seem to be very clean they use these plastic inserts on the bathtub so you're not soaking in someones yuckiness! read more

TIPS FOR THE LADIES theres one man who works there, i dont know his name but hes the only man there. make sure to ask him for pricing before hand. he is the biggest rip off in the world. I once went to him since he was the only one available. Elena usually charges me 35 bucks for my services, he tried to charge me 75 ! i was like hell no, i dont think so. and then he tries to act confused. I have heard this from multiple women and have heard women frustrated after leaving him. Ask him for pricing before hand and make sure to guide him through everything, or be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for a crappy mani. Hes rough and makes the nails look bulky and wide. I decided to try this salon. I would rate the cleanliness of the salon a 3 out of 5. The filer they used looked all beat up honestly my thought was please don't let me get an infection here. I decided to do a gel matte coffin style manicure. The lady didn't really know the style but tried. It ended up more of a oval shape. I did not mind the shape I figured as long as it is a good job it was worth it. But to my regret the job was not as expected you can see some nail polish missing one pinky is longer then the other. Lesson learned for not going to my normal nail salon and trying somewhere new. read more

I'm actually really surprised that there aren't more reviews for this place! We randomly stopped in on a Sunday at around noon and were quickly seated and taken care of. Two women worked on each of us but each took her time and made sure to care of our cuticles intricately (I hate it when I get a manicure that I feel I could've done myself at home-- but this was anything but that). Some salons rush you through, but not here; my nails were cared for beautifully and the massages were excellent! Not to mention that the mani/ pedi was only $25! Ok-- came back and had a much less pleasant experience. I guess it's hit or miss depending on who helps you. read more

It's a tightly run place with talented people, but the usual non-english speaking place that tries to take everyone in no matter how busy and is always "5 minutes" wait.... which can be more like 15 min or more. I love perfect gels and I get these here for a good price, so no complaints. But there's no parking here for anyone driving in, you've got to find street parking. A year ago, I would have given this place 5 stars. It's not so much the place, it's just that my regular manicurist, Kim , has become very popular. Don't get me wrong, I am totally happy for her! She works hard, is very good and deserves the recognition. But I think she's over her head and needs to pay attention to scheduling. She's been doing my nails since 2014. I was doing a lot of aerial performance art stuff and she would give me creative input on my already 'out-there' ideas for my nails! I do adore her! However, I booked over a week ahead of time for nails before memorial day weekend. I get there 5 minutes early and had to be out in an hour for an appointment. I wanted to do something different for this weekend and had a pic of my mani already planned out. She. Completely. Forgot. About. Me.:-( She was with another customer, so I had no choice but to get another girl. I got the mani I wanted, but my nails are a bit long. Kim knows me and how I like things. Kim apologized. But, it being my birthday and being pressed for time, I really think I should have gotten a discount or a little more than an apology. Oh well. No fault on the girls who worked on me: They did a great job and got me done 5 minutes before I had to be out the door. It's not like I won't be back. I will. But I'll just give this place a break for a while. Kim just needs to get a bit more organized. One of the most uncomfortable interactions I've ever had. First off, my partner and I were quoted 26 for a pedi with buff. We ended up paying 40 each for a 20 min pedi. It was so bad that the woman whom we seen upon arriving was still getting her pedicure when they were finished with us. I believe because we were men, they assumed we did not know what the process of getting pedis entailed. Definitely will NOT be coming back. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR! I am happy with my pedicure but the man doing it kept throwing on services without mentioning they were extra. I even said no to one but he did it anyways. I didn't say anything so that's on me. Their brochure has a "spa pedicure" that includes exactly what I had done and it costs $27 but I was charged $41. When I asked why I wasn't charged the $27 he said "because I did extra though" and started pulling prices out of thin air that aren't listed in the brochure. I take full responsibility for not looking into the price ahead of time but still can't help but feel taken advantage of. I won't be returning. read more

KIM TRINH LASHES - I have been a client of Kim's for 4 years. She's been my nail technician and an amazing one at that. She's professional, sweet natured, works quickly, and the results are always perfect! She has added a Lashes service to her portfolio and offered the service to me at my home. Her professionalism was fantastic as always...she arrived 10 minutes early, all of her tools & equipment were hygienic and newly wrapped in plastic. She used gloves and a face mask, brought her own lightening, made me feel comfortable, as she walked me thru the procedure. During the installation she was incredibly gentle and her voice was very soothing checking on my comfort level every so often. 90 minutes later I had a beautiful set of natural looking lashes! I have been going to this place since 2012. I don't even live in Santa Monica but I drive to this place every two weeks. Kim and Lili always do my nails. I have gel nails and I get Mani-Pedi s every two weeks. All the ladies are sweet and polite and I like them all. Kim does an amazing job with any style you want. She always picks my color too. I let her decide about the style and the color and I always get tons of compliments on my nails. This is as good as it gets. Highly recommend it. read more

I went to this nail salon for the first time and felt that I was overcharged! I wanted a gel manicure and pedicure. The entire process was under 30 mins.with 2 of the staff working on hands and feet. Not understanding that everything they asked me if I wanted (that is part of a regular pedicure), I was charged for. Buy the time I was done, I had spent out 85.00 for this mani/pedi with gel. If I would have known that they were going to rob me, I would have just taken the extra time and drove up to TCL on Santa Monica blvd, and kept that extra $50 dollars in my pocket. read more

I have been coming to this place for my manicure and pedicure for about a year now. I am so happy I found it! It is clean, quite contemporary, convenientely located, accessible, walk-ins are OK and the wait time is not bad at all if any. All the girls are very friendly and professional, and I have recieved the services from almost all of them over time (they are all great), but my favourite is Katie- she always knows what is right for you both professionally and personally (I mean, she feels when it is the right time to talk and when it is better to let a client relax), she also always observes your physical comfort very carefully, adjusting the position of the chair, putting it in massage mode etc. My hands and feet look their best after visiting this salon and in general I feel very relaxed and satisfied after the treatment. read more

Just an awful, awful experience. I WAITED 40 MINUTES.....without being told there was a wait. I was just directed to a chair, no mention of a wait. I was particularly grossed out by the healthy smattering of nail dust I found on my pillow and armrest, but that's beside the point. Now, a few minutes after my pedicure finally started, another customer came in and requested the woman that has JUST started helping me. Instead of saying she was busy, the woman kicked it into high gear and started rushing through everything. She had done a good job in the past, BUT NOT TODAY!!!! She slathered on the callus remover without asking, then the special scrub (again, without asking), which took all of 30 seconds on each leg. I had to ask her to please push back my cuticles, as she had barely done them. She never even asked me if I wanted a massage (a service I had happily paid a lot extra for in the past). She was in such a rush she even smudged my polish when putting on my flip flops. I was so irritated I said I'd fix it myself and asked what I owed....SHE SAID $44!!! Now, I've paid way more here, with many extra minutes of a massage, and always tipped this woman a lot....usually $20. Needless to say, there was no $20 tip today, nor will there be again. With such an abundance of nail salons in the area, it's shocking that they'd treat a good repeat customer this way. My physical therapy place is close by, which is why I first started coming here. But after the horrible, and quite frankly insulting, experience I had today, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I've waited a long time to review Modern Nails because I could just never make up my mind. I'm afraid after my last visit, my mind was made up for me. The problem with this place is the consistency: Sometimes you get a massage chair that works, sometimes you have one with a cracked remote and the water drains out of the tub before your manicure ends and your pedicure begins. Umm. Brrr. Sometimes when you are told the wait is 10 minutes, the wait is 10 minutes. Sometimes it is 45. Sometimes the water is a pleasant temperature, sometimes it is barely warm or scalding. Sometimes the music playing is music and not static for the duration of your visit. Sometimes you don't get yelled at for taking an extra minute to pick out a color. (They do have a nice selection of colors) Sometimes paying with credit card is perfectly fine, sometimes you get an eye roll and a warning for "next time you come in". Sometimes when you ask for something to be done a certain way or fixed, it is done without an attitude. Etc, etc. I can handle one or two of those things... but anymore than that and I become more annoyed than relaxed and in my opinion, that isn't worth paying for. You just never know what you are going to get. Unfortunately for this place, there are many more nail salons in the area. On to the next one... read more

I came in because Lynn Nails closes early on Sundays and expected, with a 4.5 star rating, it would be a fantastic experience. Not so much. Just a note that I'm not the kind to write a negative review. and i'd consider myself a pretty easy sell. But from the moment I walked in, the attitude was if they were doing me a favor. The color selection was horrible, which was a major bummer, and they were staring at me as I looked for a color like,"Hurry up already". Then the pedicurist scalded my feet with burning water and the rest of the ladies laughed, and startying gigling and talking in ther native language...not very nice. After that, my feet were scrubbed very roughly for 5 seconds, and both ladies massaged me for 1 minute each. The chair was really uncomfortable and made my tailbone hurt + the massage function was so weak i could barely feel it. And all this for a dingy salon with 80's decor and zero friendliness. I can go get a $20 mani/pedi at Lynn nails for $25 with great ambiance, plenty of space and light, and great service. The manicure and pedicure were alright, as far as the painting, but I definitely would not go back. ever. read more
