Let me start by saying that Modesto Toyota is a dishonest car dealership, and you should NOT do any business with them. They will not give you a fair deal. You will soon discover how many dishonest tricks and deceptions they played on you. Modesto Toyota used baling wire wrapped around the oil drain bolt to keep it in place because the oil drain pan nut was stripped out, and there was no other way to keep the drain plug bolt tight unless you did the proper thing and replaced the oil pan, which you did not. With my first free oil change, you want me to pay for the stripped-out oil pan. I just bought this car, and you were the last to perform all maintenance and services as part of your "Certified Used Car." Modesto Toyota is too dishonest and cheap to replace the car's stripped-out oil drain pan with a new one. Only one of the two key fobs works; the other is useless. You tell me, just put in a new battery, and it will work. I replaced the battery, which still does not work; it will never work as it is broken. Again, you are a dishonest car dealership. In your Carfax Report, you failed to report that the car was in a previous car accident in the front end, making the brakes, bearings, and rotors wear out more than usual. You cover all the holes in the car carpets with sticky pads and car carpet liners and mats to hide the carpet problems in a "Toyota Certified Used Car." When I made my appointment I was told that all employees and customers were required to wear masks. When I arrived there were two service advisors with masks under their chin and one with it under their nose. Talking, laughing and spewing their disgusting stuff all over the place. There was a guy in a button up shirt who looked like some kind of sales person walking around with his mask under his chin. I stood outside watching for 10 minutes and it was clear that this unsafe behavior was the norm not the exception. If this is how the front line workers behave I am certain the back of house people (mechanics and such) are absolutely not following safe covid protocols. This past Tuesday 4/2/24 my husband took me to Modesto Toyota to look at and test drive a hybrid RAV 4. Chris helped us my husband went on a test drive earlier that day with Chris. I want to say I personally don't like the "sales pitch" type for any purchases we make. As I was checking out the car my husband was relaying all the info he had received from Chris earlier that day. Chris is a very charismatic young man zero sales pitchy. My husband asked for me to test drive it. Chris caught on pretty quick I wasn't really wanting to do the whole "test drive" thing. He suggested I just take it for a spin in the parking lot. It was perfect to get a feel for the car it was quite comfortable for me to drive. Chris genuinely just was an "infornation" plug zero pressure. He noticed after the test drive my husband and I needed to "talk". He immediately excused himself to give us privacy. My husband and I went through the list of pros/cons of the vehicle. At this point my husband seemed confident this was the vehicle he wanted. We gave Chris the green light and entered phase 2 the "room". The entire experience with Chris was no pressure, laid back, talking, joking, bantering and alot of laughing. We learned he loved his job, working with people and playing sports. He shared personal stories about his wife and daughter Hazel. He was just a down to earth, easy going, hard working guy. He made the process E-A-S-Y! Once we gave our personal info and started the process it went to the hands of the "Manager". This is my reason for 4 stars. Chris alone would receive 5 stars. So the "Manager" I remember shaking his hand but did not catch his name. He placed a paper down with three options of payments. We looked them over and it was slightly more than what we were comfortable with. We attempted to maintain the lighthearted feel and tried to joke around and banter with him. Nope. He remained unamused with us ZERO personality. We asked if there was any wiggle room in the sticker price for us to be comfortable with our monthly payment. He basically said No and we could put more money down to decrease the payment. We were already putting down probably close to 40% of the sticker price. I was getting irritated and stopped talking. I was over this guy. When he left the room I looked at my husband and said maybe this isn't the right time. We have two running cars we don't have to get one today. He said I think you are right maybe we should wait another year. Chris re-entered and immediately sensed a shift in the vibe of the room. I let him know we would prefer not to deal with the "Manager" anymore. Chris could sense we were ready to walk. Chris also knew the hybrid RAV 4 is a highly sought after car that pretty much sells itself. Even knowing that he looked at us and said tell me what we need to do to get you comfortable to get you into this car? We appreciated this and laid out our cards. We were just honest with him. Chris grabbed the yellow sheet off the table and said let me see what I can do. He came back with a finalized letterhead with two offers. One was EXACTLY what we wanted and we were all very happy. We needed our check book for the down payment. Do you know Chris was willing to drive to our house to grab the check to avoid us having to drive back to Toyota? Talk about Customer Service! We then entered phase 3 the FiNAL room!!! We extended the car warranty and signed ALL the paperwork. When I tell you technology has come up since we bought my car in 2011!!! We signed our paperwork with an electonic pen on this mans glass desk! He also gets 5 stars super nice. Great stories and he made a very easy and comfortable environment. He was honest and went over everything making sure all of our questions were answered. As we left his office do you know Chris was still there well past closing to make sure to get my husbands app set up, detail the car, extra key FOB etc. We LOVE Modesto Toyota. Made an appointment for a presale inspection for a Lexus LX from a small independent local dealer. An appointment was made for the next day (Lexus needed a couple of days) and the selling dealer dropped it off and picked it up afterwards. The service department was prompt and concise in their inspection, telling me the condition of the vehicle through and through. What impressed me the most however was that they didn't talk down the store the I was getting the truck from like other franchise stores I've dealt with in the past. Nothing irks me more than big businesses scoffing and belittling their smaller family owned competitors. They were respectful of their fellow local business and didn't show bias to sway me to buy from them. The truck had some rust on the undercarriage (previously owned on the coast) and instead of trying to scare me off, they plainly told me it was surface level and didn't compromise the integrity of the affected components. Straight shooters here. This speaks volumes on how they do business and how they regard our business community as a whole. Normally I've had good service there. I've owned 2 Tacomas and now a Tundra. I've had brakes replaced on all vehicles from local brake shops except this time. I brought my Tundra in since the vehicle was close to 90,000 miles and I thought this time I'd get Toyota parts. Front and back brakes replaced, rotors were turned. The next morning I was leaving my driveway and heard this loud squeak. I followed up with the service department to look into it. They could not duplicate the squeak and was told everything is okay. Every time I first leave my house, the brakes squeak. I've read in other reviews that this is typical from Toyota dealerships. I call B.S. I'm not sure where they get their parts from, why this is typical but I'm never going back to them for brakes again. read more

Terrible service department. Been taking my truck there for years and little did I know they never changed the air filter or cabin filter for about 3 years now. I noticed a funky smell and popped open my cabin filter and found it to be so filthy it got dust behind the blower motor and all. Never once did I get a call or anything if I wanted to replace it. I highly doubt my diff oils ever got changed or any other recommended services, I'm at 80k now. Called to talked to manager and got the run around. I already had a horrendous experience with this dealership when I tried to trade in my 2019 CH-R (that I Bought from Modesto Toyota)and purchased my Tacoma with the sales department. The only reason I was still doing business with this establishment was the fact that they had excellent service advisors like Jennifer Valverde and Francisco Lara who are very attentive and know how to take care of your needs. Fast forward to today. On Monday 5-18-2022 I had service appointment for a 10,000 mile service for my 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Tacoma OFF Road. I had reserved the appointment online and it was confirmed for Friday 5-22-2022 at 08:40 am. All of a sudden at 16:22 hours today I get an email from Modesto Toyota that my appointment has been cancelled. I also received a voicemail to reschedule. I call back and speak to a lady named Shannon. She informs me that their service department made the appointment in error and that the appointment went to their recall department and the earliest next appointment they have would be for August 1st. I politely inform Shannon that the reason I made the appointment in the first place is that i would soon be over mileage if not serviced. My point is this. Modesto Toyota's error should not be the customers problem! This lady should have done everything she could to reschedule my vehicle for that same day since it WAS THEIR ERROR AND NOT MINE! My experience with Modesto Toyota had always been pleasant, however, that changed yesterday. We had taken our truck to get a "recall" fixed last Saturday, 1/20/24. We were there from 9am-3 waiting in the waiting area. It wasn't until we asked if the vehicle was finished they said the truck would have to stay overnight until Monday/Tuesday. Monday rolled around, no call. Tuesday we decided to call because we needed our vehicle. ( forgot to mention they did a horrible job explaining a rental). Tuesday we were told the vehicle was ready for pick up. Little did we know the vehicle was missing the back seat. (See attached photos). Explain to me, who in the world would send a vehicle off home like this? We called again today and they stated they wouldn't have an appointment until Saturday. We have our children to pick up? Took our car for a recall on the airbags and noticed after work was done the cover for the airbag on dash was broken. Asked the service manager to look at it and he said they replace it from inside the glove box and don't even remove the cover to replace it. We thought it was very odd it would be broken if they didn't even remove it. He got very argumentative and rude after my husband kept asking about it. Finally he sent the person that did the work out and he said THEY DO indeed remove the cover of the airbag to replace it! Then the service manager went on to say he will get us a price to replace it like it wasn't there fault.
