It depends on the restaurant, but I really do love Korean food. Last November I was invited to have the birthday dinner my choice by a friend and I chose Korean. This restaurant was highly recommended by a Korean friend. However, unfortunately it wasn't open when we got there. We did not know that they were closed on Mondays. So we had to scramble to find somewhere else, still seeking Korean food. The restaurant that we ended up in that night was disappointing but the company was great. And it was my birthday so really there was no reason to complain. A few months later I was able to have dinner at Modoo. It was incredibly crowded with a long wait on a Wednesday night. I love that there were mostly Koreans eating in the restaurant. That to me is generally a sign of good, authentic, food when the people of the culture are the main folks dining. The menu was very extensive but most things seem like a variation on a theme. They had plenty of unique and strange foods not on my personal list or pallet. It was actually difficult to choose. The prices were extremely high, but when the food came it was also extremely generous portions. I had a stew (Spicy Kalbi Jjim) that was quite flavorful, but a bit hotter than I expected - seasoning wise. It was filled with delicious short rib meat and tons of veggies. Many of the Korean restaurants that I eat at otherwise just aren't this generous with portions. Yet, they charge about one third of the prices at others though. Anyway, my short ribs stew was very tasty, except for the excessive heat. All of the banchan (side dishes) were great, and unlimited portions too. The customer care was good. Even though they were busy, they did try to take their time to make sure that the folks at my table were taking care of. I would go back. Although there are some things on the menu that I just simply don't eat. Of all the Korean restaurants that I've been to this one seems to be more filled with foods that are not my choice. I will never eat octopus or blowfish, but if you do they have it. And, I bet they probably prepare it quite well at this restaurant. They gained stars for being a clean restaurant, with efficient service, an extensive menu, and good customer service. They lost a star because the food, while it is quite delicious, is seriously overpriced. At most Korean restaurants (local to me) I can eat on a regular basis, or as often as I choose in a month. I've heard so many great things about this place and we finely came to try it for my SIL's bday celebration. This place gets packed right when they open on the weekends which is insane. The service is ultra friendly and fast. The menu is pretty small and the prices are kind of high. We tried: -army stew - basic, nothing spectacular. A spicy red broth filled with spam, sausages, ramen noodles, tofu and veggies. -soft tofu soup - this did not come out boiling hot and it was the weirdest tasting soondubu I've ever had. It tasted like it had some lemongrass in it which odd bc lemongrass doesn't belong in there. We did not like this at all. -bossam - the pork was meaty and not fatty, everyone enjoyed this one. -beef kalbi - meaty and not fatty The banchan was also super basic and uninteresting. I feel like good Korean restaurants always serve good side dishes and this one does not meet our expectations. There were some other items my family ordered that did not look appetizing such as the hot stone pot rice with seafood. Although the service was incredible, you will not find us back here because the food was underwhelming and the prices were expensive. The only thing worth ordering is the bossam. Would absolutely come here again! Arrived here around 6pm on a Thursday night, was warmly greeted, and immediately seated. I'm sure glad we came when we did because about a half hour later this place got absolutely slammed, which is a positive sign! Many patrons were Korean families and that was comforting to see, I knew I was in for a treat if this was where all the local Koreans dined at! First impressions of the place, very clean and well lit. Banchan was solid and I absolutely loved their complimentary barley tea. I never even had to ask the servers to refill my tea because they made sure it was constantly topped off throughout the night. Now that's some attentive service. I originally stopped by this Korean complex to visit Dawa to eat their Korean fried chicken, but then I got a sudden urge to try something new so I stepped into Modoo right across the parking lot and ordered their spicy fried chicken for comparison. Not quite as crispy as Dawa's, but these were still delectable and juicy. I'd say the spiciness sat at a 3/5. I'd rate these wings a solid 4/5 if you're craving for some wings. As my eyes drifted around the restaurant, I noticed that almost EVERY table was ordering the Jjusami, so you 100% know that I also ordered the Jjusami! It was incredible. Sweet, spicy, and well seasoned all around. It was served on a thick cast iron plate to even help retain the heat. The rice cakes were soft and chewy, the webfoot octopus was yum yum yum, and the pork belly added in that dimension of fatty goodness. Portion for the dish is large enough to feed 3-4 adults. Rating the Jjusami a 5/5. For $5 extra I added the cheese fried rice option. The way it works is that as you're almost done with the Jjusami (maybe 1/3 left), the server will take it back to the kitchen to use the remainder in the fried rice. This was a novel concept to me, but you know what, it was cool and I liked it... although it did come back just a tad too salty. Fried rice gets a 4/5. Overall, this was a great experience and I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu. The food is amazing and the staff are helpful and friendly. This is a place that I really don't want to review...... because the queue is long enough as it is already! They don't take reservations and even arriving at 5:30 for dinner, we often have to wait for at least 45 minutes. Mostly the wait is an hour or more! Why do we keep coming back? The food - superb Korean food at incredibly reasonable prices. We keep coming back and ordering the Jjusami and promising ourselves that the next time we come, we'll order something else because everything looks so good in the tables around us........ only to order Jjusami again the next time we turn up. Our family of four can barely finish a third of it.... yet at the end of the meal, we ask the server to take it back to the kitchen and turn it into a plate of cheese fried rice, and put the balance in a to-go box. The Youngyang Kalbi Jjim balances out the spicyness of the Jjusami, so we order that everytime too. Generous amounts of meaty, chunky beef short ribs stewed to tender perfection and falling off the bone. The gravy is sweet not with sugar, but onions, pumpkin and radish. Great new restaurant a little out of the way in Lynwood, but worth the drive. You must get there early (they open at 4 PM) to put your name on the waitlist. Luckily, there's a cute cafe right next door where you can wait. We had the jjusami, seafood pancake, seollongtang, soondubu, and galbi jjim. The standout and must-get is the jjusami (make sure to opt-into the fried rice at the end for a few bucks extra). Next, the soondubu for how specially flavorful the common dish was. I would say pass on the others unless you particularly like those dishes because they're still quality. Bonus was that the staff were so kind and experts at reorganizing the table to fit the countless number of dishes we had. We came here on a Friday at 1:30pm and originally were told the wait would be an hour for a party of six. However, some larger parties canceled their place in line and we were seated in 15 minutes. They currently do not allow reservations so I would highly recommend coming earlier or you might find yourself waiting a long time before you can get seated and eat. Inside the restaurant there are a decent amount of tables with some private rooms for larger parties. JAPCHAE ($13.99) - I thought this was just okay but there was a lot of food for the price. 3/5 SPICY KALBI JJIM ($38.99) - This was my favorite dish of everything we got. The beef is tender, the sauce is slightly spicy and is really good with rice. There were also fish cakes in it as well which was a nice surprise. 5/5 L.A. KALBI ($26.99) - This was really good and tender. The beef falls right off the bone. 5/5 SEAFOOD PANCAKE ($16.99) - I thought the pancake itself was pretty good but it could've been crispier for more texture. 3.5/5 BEEF TOFU STEW ($12.99) - This had a good flavorful broth and also had a nice kick to it. 4/5 STONE POT BIBIMBAP ($14.99) - This had your typical bibimbap fare like carrots, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and other veggies. Their bibimbap sauce is nice although I preferred the kalbi jjim sauce with the bibimbap. 4/5 Overall the food was pretty good. I preferred some way more than others and I think the price is on par with similar Korean restaurants in the greater Seattle area. The service is really not great though, which affected the whole experience. I don't think I got a refill once and I was actively trying to flag down wait staff. It also made ordering additional sides nearly impossible. I took some to-go and asked for a few extra sides and even offered to pay, but the server said he couldn't do it. We've ordered to-go from Modoo about 4 times. Overall, the food quality and portions are decent. Service is friendly. For me, one of my favorite things when it comes to Korean restaurants is the side dishes. We usually spend over $65 but the sides dishes they include are extremely skimpy (enough for 1 person) and boring (Kimchee, beans, broccoli, fish cake, and miniature fish all 4 times). When I asked if they can gives us more, they said it would cost extra. If we were dining in, refills would be complimentary so I'm not sure why they penalize to-go orders. We were told we to just go in. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed. We waited for 45 mins for our table. The restaurant felt very clean and modern. Most of the customers appeared to be Korean which suggests to me that the food is properly representative of that cuisine. Dishes here are served family style with several traditional small sides and rice. We had hoped to try something a little unusual, but they were out of our first choice so settled for the Kalbi ribs. Can I give Modoo seven stars? If I could only write two words about this oasis of delectable Korean food along Highway 99, they would be "GO HERE." You've just got to try them. There is a reason why there was a steady stream of people at the front door, and it starts with Modoo's customer service. I'm so glad we decided to eat in instead of take our food to go. Even though the wait was a few minutes, we were greeted warmly and given a table at the rear of the restaurant in a separate room that can be used for private parties. From there, it only got better and better. My SO noted that every one of the waitstaff takes cares of you. We were never without an empty cup of tea, we were offered extra napkins and more banchan without asking, and we were always checked on with a smile and genuine concern. We were starving and decided to order with the idea of trying lots of things and taking the excess home. Cannot recommend the japchae, tteok-bokki, bibimbop, and kalbi enough. Everything we ate, including banchan, was scrumptious. (I recommend eating all the japchae before leaving, though, because it doesn't keep as well as other dishes). The dining area is large but can get loud. Even in the separate room we were speaking loudly right next to each other. The boisterousness is part of the charm of this place - lots of couples, families, and friends having a good time. One of the best parts was that when we left, the guy who seated us, while on the phone, waved wildly at us with a huge smile on his face while another waitstaff member called out from the back of the restaurant to say goodbye. This cute place is right off of 99 and has free parking that is comfortable to access. The interior is modern and gives off a cute restaurant in a Korean manga vibe. Made me think of the type of place tzuyang would frequent. Menu is not too long and covers all of the Korean classics. It includes alcohol, appetizers and combos as well. They close after lunch and reopen for dinner so this is one thing to keep in mind when planning hour trip. The pricing was upper average, but similar to other Korean sit down restaurants. If you're looking for good Korean food, consider this for your next meal. We ordered the Combo D, which came with a stone pot bibimbap and bulgogi. The bulgogi was delicious - the hot dish it came on perfectly caramelized the sauce and added some nice char to the meat. The bibimbap was solid, though I wish the stone pot was hotter as the rice was not that crispy. Also lots of sauce was needed to add flavor to the bibimbap. We got lucky that we got seated immediately because when we called about the waitlist, it's 30+ minutes and we may not get seated for the night as last call is 30 min before closing. We shared the jjusami and gamja-tang. The jjusami has squid and pork belly with rice cakes and it is crazy spicy, so definitely the real deal. The pork belly is lightly crispy and flavorful, and the rice cake texture is very soft and quite unique to the typical chewy rice cakes. Because of how spicy the dish was, we opted out of the fried rice. The gamja-tang is fairly light with a little bit of spiciness, with meat that is very tender and fall off the bone texture. I thought the makguksu was delicious but the sauce was lacking sweetness. Otherwise, it's a very satisfying meal - esp. for the price you pay. The quantity and taste is pretty good! We went around 7:30pm on a Saturday and soon after they stopped taking walk-ins due to the length of waitlist. We actually discovered Modoo because my husband saw on a Korean message board that they do side dish orders. That immediately excited us because if you know anything about Korean food, you know side dishes are paramount and a lot of work goes into making each one. So, it is incredibly handy to have ready made ones on hand to go with your meals. Modoo came through! Their side dishes were so good we decided to try the restaurant (when it was still open for indoor dining... oh Covid *sigh*) and we were over the moon with happiness! The food is SO GOOD! It can be hard finding homemade taste and consistency from a Korean restaurant, but Modoo keeps coming through. The restaurant ambiance is very Korean and cozy, and it goes over the top with a Pat Bingsoo bar which is adorable. The booth tables are awesome because they have wood partitions between each making it nice and private. The staff are always really friendly and attentive which you can never say enough about, really... that's so important. But the food is the shining light of this review for its flavorful quality, authenticity and scrumptious selection. The kimchi soondooboo delighted me and is now my go to. I'm in a food coma right now. I'm surprised the table didn't collapse from the amount of food we ordered. We all shared the Army stew, kalbi Jjim, veggie pancakes. Ttobboki w/ ramen and cheese, and tofu bibimbap, and soft tofu soup. Can't forget the banchan. Everything was great. The kalbi jjim was everyone's favorite. We have leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. We went during lunch time. Seating was open around 11:30am. We left around 1pm and there was a long wait at the door. Go early if you want seating. We'll be back for the kalbi jjim! read more

Went there after all the glowing reviews, and it was ok, just ok. Kinda pricey for what you get, and the signature dish of the jjusami was pretty good, but the amount of actual baby octopus and pork was comparatively little, drowned out by the topokki and bean sprouts. We also ordered the vegetable pancake, which was very good, and the Combo D (bibimbap + bulgogi) which for $27, didn't seem like very much food. So overall, the food was pretty good, but a bit pricey. This may be par for the course for Korean food when it comes to price/food ratio. If the prices were a little more reasonable, I could see this being 4 stars... read more

Modoo is a win! It's always so busy on weekends but we made a reservation for dinner at 6:30 on Tuesday. They seated us early. I've never been checked up on so much in a restaurant! They're constantly checking in to make sure you have enough side dishes, tea, and that you like your food. I loved the mackerel and tofu soup combo, and will be back to try kalbi. read more
