We came on Mother's Day and didn't get a table until 1.5 hours later. The restaurant is on the smaller side, which explains the long wait, but the food came out pretty quickly. - Red Velvet Mochi Waffle: The waffles were good, but it barely had any red velvet flavor. The fruits were also sweet, so that's a huge plus. 4/5 for taste, but for what it should have been (red velvet flavored), 3/5. - "MC" Breakfast (scrambled eggs, pineapple sausage, garlic toast): A very simple platter, but it was really good. We all loved the pineapple sausage and my mom really liked the garlic toast. 5/5. - Eggs Benedict: Really delicious. It was cooked just right and the overall taste was great. 5/5. - Banana Chantilly Pancakes: My sister didn't think it was sweet enough or it just didn't have enough syrup. The chantilly pancake was big enough for 4 of us to share, 3 people if you have a big appetite. They have other brunch items they serve as well and it is a great family spot to be with family or if you're just branching with friends. I recommend you come 15-30 minutes before they open to sign in. There's typically a line that forms before opening and they get busy pretty quick. Our wait time took about 45 minutes, which we expected because we came 30 minutes after they opened. However, the sitting, ordering, serving of the food, and paying service was really quick. Nice little cafe, no restroom. Public restrooms upstairs do not seem safe as usually there is no foot traffic near by. Lots of breakfast/brunch selections. Not a fan of their thick salad dressing. We often opt for another restaurant if waiting list is too long. Although, recently there hasn't been much of a waiting list. Perhaps people aren't too happy about the 4% restaurant fee (?) that is added to the bill and 20% gratuity if you have a large group. Instead of adding an additional 4% restaurant fee to the bill, increase the prices on the menu by 4% to reflect the actual cost. Servers should inform patrons that 20% tip is included. read more

Moena cafe has been a traditional anniversary place for me and my husband. There is always a long line of people waiting to be seated but once seated, the service is impeccable. The servers are kind, caring, & overall just great attitudes even through the busy times. The food, oh boy the food is my favorite. I love everything about their food but the one reason I always come here is for their scones. I absolutely die for their scones. Each time we go is a different flavor of scones. Not often on this side of the island so we were wandering around looking for a place to eat when we stumbled upon this cafe. We were lucky and were able to be seated right away. They serve all day breakfast and it is delicious. We had their short rib loco moco, smoked salmon benedict, avocado toast and nutella strawberry crepe. There was not a bad choice in the bunch. I'm not even really a fan of avocado and still was able to enjoy their avocado toast. All the eggs were cooked perfectly to get that nice yolk break. Brunch at Moena Cafe was the perfect choice for our family. We were able to rsvp in advance for a party of 9. Right when we got there, our table was ready right away. The seating was comfortable, and I liked how they gave us enough elbow space. The waitresses & waiter were friendly & patient. They made sure that we were taken care of. I wanted to brunch with a friend from beauty school so we got to planning. I originally suggested a restaurant on the Windward side, but the time just didn't work out. First time eating here with my family to celebrate mom's birthday. My mom called in the morning to make a reservation and the girl who she spoke to said that we can call a little in advance to put our name on their list. When we called at noon I was told that we had to be in person to put our name down. Well, that's disappointing. It was approximately a 30 minute wait at the time so the 10 minute time it took us to get there from my aunty's house would not be a problem. The service was excellent, everyone was very attentive. Like many restaurants nowadays the menu is available via QR code but if you really need a print menu, just ask. I got a white macnut latte hot; my sister got hers iced. Both were really tasty and not overly sweetened. My cousin tried the vanilla latte and I really liked the taste of this as well! For food, I had to try a gigantic pancake. When I asked the size, our server told me "oh about 8" diameter" but it was more like 12". I wonder how big that spatula to turn it is!! So I opted for just one rather than 2 pancakes. I also got a corned beef hash side cause I heard it was a must try. My sister and cousin both got the MC Fruity Pancake with no coconut, my mom got the veggie crepe and my dad got the short rib loco moco. My parents also got a corned beef hash on the side and my sister ordered fried rice with scrabbled eggs to share with my niece. Everything came out as it was cooked so the plates were hot! Our table also smelled so good. After waiting an hour and watching other people's orders come out it was so nice to finally get to eat! My compliments to the chef! The pancake was done through and through, no gooey ness in the middle. I also liked the flavor of the Chantilly creme although everyone else thought it was too sweet. This pancake was much tastier than other places that are "known for pancakes" that I have been to. To cut the sweetness, I was happy I got a side of hash. The saltiness of the hash balanced it out. I do have to admit it was on the borderline of too salty but I think it's because I've cooked with less salt over the last few years so I'm used to less salt in general. Everyone was very satisfied with their dishes and we ate so much but still ended up taking home some pancakes and corned beef hash. I will definitely have to make it back again sometime cause I want to try other things on the menu. YUM My family visited this place on a whim after hiking the Makapu'u lighthouse trail. We were looking for brunch food and we got what we asked for! The cafe is quaint and quiet. Our waiter was exceptional. He answered all of our questions about the menu and was very friendly. He really made a difference on our experience. I wish I could remember his name. TLDR; a classic brunch place on the southeast side of the island known for their banana chantilly pancakes and short rib loco moco. We came here at 1pm on a Saturday, and didn't have to wait at all to be seated. But from reading other Yelpers' reviews, if you came at 11am or so, the wait can be about an hour. So definitely come at non-peak times! Of course, we ordered the two most popular items on the menu. BANANA CHANTILLY PANCAKES (4/5): Not too sweet, but an absolute delight. The pancake itself is HUGE. Even if you order the one-stack, be prepared to have leftovers or share it with someone. The double-stack can feed 4 people. My only critique of this is that I wish they were more generous with the chantilly swirl! The coconut flakes on top added a wonderful texture to each soft bite, but I would have loved to not have to scrape the plate with each bite, trying to absorb as much chantilly cream as I can into the pancake. SHORT RIB LOCO MOCO (4/5): Hoo boy, this was DANK!! Topped with 2 gorgeous eggs over easy, chef's kiss all around. The meat was soft and flavorful. Had breakfast here my friend and we both had the short rib loco moco and we both shared the strawberry and milk pancake short stack. My friend had her Loco moco with fried rice. She loves fried rice. I tried their fried rice and it was flavorful. I opted for regular rice and I loved that they didn't drown my meal with gravy. I'm not a fan of food drowning. It was the perfect balance for me. Folks living Hawaii Kai often ask this question, "Should I drive 7 miles into town for some ono grinds...?" When it comes to Brunch/Lunch the answer is "No Way"! Why? Because we have Moena Cafe! Let's start with the service. 5 Stars - The fact that I know server manager "Kat" by her first name tells you something. She is helpful, knowledgeable, and personable, and makes you feel more like "family" than a customer. Forget that she explained everything on the menu or that orders were brought out promptly and correctly. Ignore the filled water glasses, and cleared plates. What impressed me was how often she apologized to people that had to wait, and then as we were the last customers still eating after they closed at 2:30 PM she told us to "take your time and stay until happy hour if you like". They don't really have a happy hour, she just didn't want us to feel rushed. Add to that the other servers that helped us last time were just as good. In fact if I didn't know any better I'd guess that our server Asia was actually Kat's sister. Food - I had to eat here several times before writing this review. Portions are not huge but the quality has been consistently excellent. Eggs Benedict - 5 Stars- Full bodied hollandaise, with a perfectly soft but not overly runny egg made the Kalua Pig or crab Benedict's a nice savory breakfast option. Pancakes - 5 Stars- These tend to be large so expect to share or take some home. The Cinnamon Roll pancake and Coconut Mac Nut and Banana Chantilly were all surprising well balanced and not cloyingly sweet as I expected. The topping is a version of a butter cream but lighter. Sandwiches - 4 Stars - I had the Crab Panini and the Cuban and both were nicely toasted and not overly seasoned. The short rib sandwich was tender but a bit dry. Loco Moco. - 5 stars - I've only tried the Short Rib Loco Moco and it was a nice spin on the concept. The gravy kept the rib meet moist. Pro Tip - Plan on arriving early if you're dining at peak times and weekends, put your name on the list and walk around Koko Marina and get a coffee or danish at Napolean's or Leonard's. Conclusion - Why go into town when we have Moena Cafe right here? Bonus - Windows - NEVER have I EVER commented on the windows in a restaurant review before, however it's not uncommon for the front glass doors and Windows at Moena to be cleaned more than once while you're eating. We've been wanting to try Moena Café for the longest time and we finally dined in! It wasn't so busy for Sunday brunch, like we thought, which was perfect because we came from the West Side (and we were so famished). My boyfriend tried the short rib loco moco fried rice and had coffee with cream, while I had a sausage omelette with country potatoes and iced caramel macchiato. The food was great! I tried the loco moco and instantly loved it because the burger steak wasn't dry. The fried rice was good, too. As per my omelette, it was good and filling. I do, though, liked the presentation (very Instagram-worthy!) The Koko Marina Shopping Center seems to be packed, whenever we visit, but I was really happy that we found parking just outside of the café and we didn't wait long. My friend and I ended up selecting this spot for breakfast while on our trip in Oahu. It's a cute little spot that is tucked in a shopping center near the movie theater. Plentiful parking! We arrived and wrote our names down and sat outside till the waitress brought us in to our table (no real waiting area inside). The decor is cute... very modern farm chic. I ordered the Crab Benedict and Kona Milkshake and I have to say it is probably one of the best Crab Benedict's I've ever had. They used real crab meat and the thing was huge. I also loved the fried rice. The entire meal was delicious. My friend got the corn beef hash and a side of bacon and also got the avocado toast. She wasn't too happy with the corn beef hash, but it was more of an expectation of what would come being different from what arrived. We LOVED this little cafe in Hawaii Kai. Very friendly and family like atmosphere. The food was delicious and we all had happy plates. I had the Italian panini and the sauce that comes on the panini was extremely delicious- I would ask for extra sauce next time I ordered this! I just moved here and definitely will be coming back- especially for their breakfast which looked epic from what we saw brought out. Only downside was we did have to wait a little longer than expected for sandwiches but while you're in Hawaii you may as well be on island time. read more

Omgggg so this is my all time fave spot on the island Me and my mom choose this beautiful brunch spot for every birthday or special occasion get together. We are die hard breakfast people and are obsessed with all things coffee. (When I tell you I'm serious about coffee, I have the caffeine molecule tattooed on my arm ) Ambiance perfectly relaxing and customer service is always consistently kind and efficient I loveee the short rib loco moco. You can't get anything like this anywhere else It's braised meat that just melts in your mouth. I die and go to heaven every time lol. I am a huge fan of their eggs benedicts. I love the option of having one crab and one salmon. And their crab is so so good! Not the fake imitation stuff! You have to try whatever scone of the day they have! I've had piña colada, blueberry cheesecake and other fabulous flavors I can't remember but know I loved. You must pair it with their ily coffee orrrr my new fave milkshake! I did a coffee (with espresso shot) and Oreo. And I'm drooling just thinking about it. Pancakes are the size of your face and always a hit.
