My first time discovering Moira and I will be back! I love they are open till 2am on the weekends. Kudos! The wait was about 40mins but once I walked in, I expected a long wait because it is not a large establishment. My friends and I went during happy hour and let me tell you!!!! The Happy Hour prices are awesome! I wanted to try everything! The bartender was so nice, he introduced himself to us while we waited for our table. The General Manager was awesome! No words can describe how nice she was to us. She literally came to our table to ask was everything ok. You do not receive that type of service hardly anywhere anymore. The vibe was amazing here. I literally can't wait to go back. Let's get on the food. Mind blowing! Every item I ordered was delicious and I ordered a lot of food( especially with the happy hour prices). Came here with my partner because we live within walking distance and thought it was way overpriced. Felt like we paid too much for underwhelming sushi. Decided to try it again, just incase the kitchen was having an off night and ended up getting terrible service along with underwhelming sushi. Server most definitely didn't get our order in promptly to the cooks. We were sitting at the bar this time (and as a server myself) I knew exactly what happened. I watched our server finally point out that our order didn't get made yet. We were watching other people eat around us that came in after us. The location is great, the music was upbeat, and the layout appeared to be optimal. However, after a short wait to be seated at the sushi bar, our waitress wasn't bad, she was nonexistent. The hostess brought our water, after being un acknowledged eventually a very kind line chef came over to take our order. Our waitress about halfway through service eventually acknowledged us, the one time she stopped by the entire evening to resume hanging out at the front of the restaurant. The food was mediocre, if you've never had sushi before, this place isn't it. No legitimate sushi chefs. When it came time to receive our check a bar back at the adjacent bar came over to finally ring us out and then we made our way to the hostess to finally be able to leave. It's a bit of a bummer because I think this place could be much better, but it just fails on every possible metric. I came here for happy hour, I ordered edamame off the happy hour menu and asked the server to make it spicy. I had no clue there was a chili garlic edamame that was not on happy hour which was $11. The server who was the Asian guy didn't tell me any of this and I wasn't reading the whole menu, I was just ordering off happy hour. When I went up to the server to question the price, that's when he told me they have another edamame on the main menu. Really enjoyed my meal here! My date used to frequent here because he lived quite close to it. Not so much now. But when we were conveniently close by at Phoestivus and not interested in the food trucks, his immediate suggestion was Moira! It really is off the beaten path because in the many time I've been in the neighborhood bar hopping, I'd never seen or noticed it. "Happy hour" until 11p wins in my book. We ate well for $40 including a couple of drinks, a couple of rolls and an appetizer. I was underwhelmed by my drink but you can't beat $5 wells. The rolls were crazy good and surprisingly filling, and their eel sauce is outta this world. Get the bang bang shrimp for your appetizer as a precursor to the amazingness you're about to eat. My only complaint was the service. We were greeted and sat at the bar, and promptly forgotten about until I got up after 10 minutes to ask someone for waters and to take our order. Then once we got our drink order placed and gave the chef our sushi order, it took another 10-15 to get our drinks and some water. I've been here many times for dinner but this is the first time for lunch and hot dang, I'm impressed! Got the unagi and avocado bowl lunch special and it's so much delicious food!! First experience at Moira! Honestly I'm disappointed. My group heard it was good so we were excited, but right off the bat we had some disappointments. To begin with, the hostess forgot we were there (even though she wrote my name on the list) and sat another group. She then realized what happened and asked that table to get up, which was quite surprising tbh. Then we sat and the sushi chef didn't make our appetizer and my dish until the rest of my party finished and after I inquired two times. Even if you're turned off by trendy sushi bars, Moira is worth a try. The menu is quite large and diverse, with some choices that are generally hit or miss. The Geisha roll looked promising (lotus root? yum!), but I was so overwhelmed by the cream cheese I couldn't taste what looked to be a promising experience. The Sakura roll really hit the spot. I have a weakness for unagi, and it did well with the snow crab and maguro. Also, the eel sauce had a nice kick to it, and is now my favorite. Some argue these rolls cost just a tad too much, but once you remember the quality of ingredients going in to every bite, I'd say it's just right. But this sushi alone is far from mindblowing. If the review ended here, it would be a 3.5 rounded down to a solid 3 stars. Moira goes the extra mile by providing an exotic selection of cocktails and beers. There are a dozen or so lagers and stouts from the far east. I ordered the Singha Thai lager, and my comrades had some pretty interesting stouts from Japan. Most sushi bars will only carry Kirin Ichiban, Sapporo, and maybe Tsingtao, so the diversity is welcome. Also, the cocktails are worth a try. The list seemed to have run of the mill drinks, with a few exotic looking options. I can only compare it to Kabuki's drink menu, only with what I assume to be higher quality. I'll be back for the happy hour, or to be more specific, the REVERSE Happy Hour featured here on Friday nights. It looks very promising, and I hope this place keeps living up to my four star endorsement. read more

My friend and i were sat down by the host.. and we sat there for MORE THAN 30mins without being greeted. While a few others sat down and got greeted even got food and drinks and we didn't even have water. I am a downtownee....I have lived thru all the growth and have heard nothing but amazing things about Moira. But, I had never gone. I am not a super huge sushi fan, but appreciate and understand the art. I have directed sushi restaurants in my career and this blew my mind. I have recommended this place to so many people and when they made the top 10 list nationally, I ramped up my promotion of this place. Huge mistake. We went during the NCAA Final Four and during off hours, we aren't tourists. I had been telling my new wife: "I can't wait to take you there!! It is the of the top 10 sushi bars nationally." We went there and were seated immediately on the patio, which is what we wanted. So far, so good. The table was wobbly, which we shoved against the wall to stabilize, and our waitress came by a few minutes later. They weren't busy, mind you. We ordered drinks and I ordered a bottle of Sake. She said we are out of quite a few of the sake's on our list, so I selected one and she went to get it. She returned with our drinks and as I poured the sake, it was milky. I don't like milky sake, so I said to her: "I am sorry, I ordered this Jungmai, not the milky one." She replied: "Well, all sakes are milky in, this is the one we have in stock." I just let it go, but to its credit, for a milky sake...it wasn't bad. Our appetizers arrived, and we didn't have silverware (chopsticks, for me), plates, napkins, etc. Our boys finished their soup apps before she came by to give us our utensils. The hostess should have recognized, even the service staff. BUT!!! The service staff was fantastic in their hospitality!!! So nice and cordial, so our tip was placed to accurately give them their due and proper. All in all, clean it up Moira. Our waitress was untrained and unknowledgeable. When we ordered another bottle of sake and I pointed it out on the menu, she came back and said you were out of stock and the bartender recommended the house sake. What bartender recommends the house sake? Lights were out on the patio, music wasn't playing...it felt like a food truck picnic area. I hope management reads this and works on these issues. I came here 3 years ago and ordered "Chicken Karaage" (Fried Chicken)but that was actually "ChikenTempura" (Tempura is more expensive than Karaage) I came back here tonight and ordered "Tuna poke" and "Yakisoba". Normally Poke has rice but this was Poke Salad and Yakisoba needs Yakisoba source(Kinda Takoyaki source) but this Yakisoba use Teriyaki source... It is absolutely different.
