I was a little hesitant at first going back to the barber with covid but once I saw how clean & spread apart the clients are at Mojos I was relieved. Even how they clean the chairs between people is impressive. My barber was Mathew Ngo & he gave me exactly the cut I wanted. A burst fade to skin. I've been going to the Bethel Street location for about 2 years now and always leave with a fresh cut. Upon hearing about the new shop I was excited for them! They really are a bunch of hard working, passionate barbers. The new shop is the old McCully Chop Sui building, renovated of course. Upon walking my first impression was "Wow! This place is nice!" It's a lot bigger than the china town set up. They have about 8 chairs for the crew to do their work. Huge mirrors, a few TVs, and bleacher style seats make up the rest of the shop. The receptionist desk is a nice wooden and leather piece created by a local woodworker and a local leather worker. Was lucky enough to get a sneak peak of the shop and looks like Mojo has another home run! Can't wait till the official opening and to see what's next. I followed Emily here from the Bethel shop, and three other shops. It's a great location and a super cool ship. Feels like the social club it claims to be. I could definitely come hang out here. Coming in to get a haircut is the highlight of my week. If you're in the military and are tired of the on post barbers messing up your haircut come down and see a barber here. So this was my first time going to this barbershop since I've been to a few around town. And so far I can say I was extremely grateful that I went! There was only street parking, which was okay because I went on a weekday a little after noon time. They took me as soon as I got there even when I got to my appointment a few minutes before my scheduled time. Inside it look very clean, professional, and they took very precise precautions for covid protocols. Van took me as his next client, and we had a pretty decent conversation throughout the whole process, and even answered a few questions I had about how to style my hair. I hate the parking around McCully; however, Matt's cuts are worth it to make the trip and hassle. His precision and clean cuts bring me great looking combovers and have so for the past 3 years. Let me say that if you can cut my hair and make it look decent, you've won half the battle. As my hair is plagued with weird directions of growth, falls in different directions, and yes, I'm a closet conehead with a pointy skull... all elements that make most barbers say "What the hell...?" under their breath before they pick up their scissors. I know that most people will say that their prices are not exactly cheap, especially if you come out of the service and go to a barber at Schofield or the NEX... however, the barbers at Mojo Barbershop will actually cut your hair right, in spite of all the quirks that your hair will present to them... not just grab clippers and run them over your scalp at full-speed while committing deforestation upon your scalp. The saying that you get what you pay for truly applies here. They take the time, not only to cut your hair to your specification, they will also make recommendations based upon how your hair grows... you know, because you don't have eyes on the top of your scalp or the back of your head. They will also get to know you as a person, whether you need someone to talk with, someone to listen because you need to vent about that incompetent jerk you work with at the office, or just remain quiet and let you doze off as the noise of the clippers lull you into a state of relaxation... whatever you need, they seem to know before you do... an amazing talent possessed by all of the barbers here, in addition to their superior skills of cutting hair or giving you a straight-razor shave. I'm typically very picky with barbers as I'm a black guy and some barbers have little to no experience cutting/taking care of black hair & skin. Barbershop was very well-kept, clean, and modern. I've been to 3 salons on the island and they've always freaked out about how short I like my hair. They try to talk me out of it. They say it's "masculine" or "are you really sure?" At first, I was intimidated by the atmosphere - think swanky mancave. Men getting their haircuts did seemed to be weirded out by my presence. But my barber Travis came up and introduced himself. He was incredibly kind and I relaxed. He listened, asked a few clarifying questions and did exactly what I asked. I love my hair and will be back! read more

Lost my mojo because of the lady receptionist who greeted my family without aloha. Be warned she explained that they are an "appointment only" salon although there are no signs indicating this. I should have checked yelp first!! After explaining this with attitude she pointed to about eight stacks of card and said I could take one and make an appointment. At this point I felt so unwelcome I told her no thanks. If your trying to build a business customer service is an important foundation. This lady behaved as if our presence was a nuisance. Instead of pointing to a stack of business cards telling me to call and figure it out - she could have took the initiative to see what kind of stylist we were looking for. Then she could have looked to when the next available appointment was. I understand having appointments only. What I don't understand is the lack of welcome or assistance in making one by the person greeting customers. read more

Haircut is not as bad but definitely would recommend checking your cut mid way or just cut your own hair. I ask for mid fade and a light trim on top but got nothing close to that.
