However, the barista who had just served up our morning beverages then decided it was time to LOUDLY discuss (of all things at a restaurant) her yeast infection! liked the decoupage floor and ambience. coffee was good, love that it's organic. don't love the dirty looks from clientele, and when in line, the barista helped those in line after us, since they are regulars. very very long wait for a mocha. The locals were offered whipped cream on their bevarage, we were not. The barista was nice enough, but very blatant about treating tourists as second-class customers. We tipped regardless since she was nice enough... it's not like we were hanging out in puka shell necklaces with fanny packs and zip-off pants. just wanted get a cup of joe on the way to surf. I noticed this coffee stand several times while driving by, mostly due to the large line in front (often an indicator of good food/coffee). Unfortunately, I didn't actually try it until the last day of our trip - I just got a basic drip coffee, but it was the best I've had in Kauai! They had tasty baked goods too! read more

I ordered a cappuccino. The best I have ever had. It really was delicious. I had my 3 year old daughter with me and the lady that made the delicuos cappuccino made a little bear face with the steamed milk at the top. It was very cute. First trip to the island and I wanted a good coffee/breakfast spot before a kayaking trip. Breakfast was good but not out of this world, but the iced mocha was the best I had on the island, and I drank at least one each day from different spots in Kauai. Not too sweet but very flavorful. this was by far the best coffee we've had in a long time. hubby and i each ordered a cappuccino and a veggie-nator bagel/sandwich thing. both exceeded our expectations. the espresso shot was pulled and timed to perfection and the foam was thick and smooth. the little design on top even made it taste better. the veggie-nator was the perfect healthy breakfast we were craving - loaded with veggies and some sort of pickled beet which added an amazing peppery crunch. service was ok, not friendly, but not rude which is why i only gave this place 4 stars (i'm a HUGE advocate of excellent customer service). i'd say it was typical service for kapa'a from our weekend experience. read more

I'm not sure what they are doing but the coffee is awful. They charged an extra .75 for honey and I wasn't even able to add the amount I wanted. I ordered an Americano and a red eye and they both were dumped out. Okay service and cute little truck. Go across the street to Java Kai. Much better coffee and they have honey right out in the open! My wife and I came here on our honeymoon after watching the sunrise. We loved this place! The barista/owner was very friendly and made great coffee. Ordered a mocha and vanilla latte. Flavor was solid with no bitterness and a nice smoothness to the drinks. Vanilla latte was sweeter than mocha which was kind of surprising, but both were very good. Prices seem on the high side ($4.50 for an 8oz mocha), but no complaints about drinks themselves. According to locals this is the place for the best espresso in Kapaa. read more

Tourists may come for the laid-back bohemian feel or the wi-fi, but they'll be returning for the expresso drinks, hand crafted -like my fantastic mocha latte with swirled foam finish-which are cheerfully rendered by baristas that aim to please. I also tried the blueberry scone, which was generous sized and not dry at all and more chewy than biscuity. While we waited for drinks, we strolled into the microscopic book store off the back end of the shop and found a couple cool paperback books (used, $0.50 ea.) to grab as well. We stumbled upon Small Town Coffee while exploring neighborhoods around Kauai. They have incredible coffee and a lot of different options; we tried an iced coffee drink with homemade pumpkin syrup, and it was the pumpkin flavored coffee we've tasted. They also had delicious pastries, including vegan and gluten-free options, which can be harder to find in Kauai. Prices were very reasonable, and the ambience was eclectic and relaxing. We enjoyed it so much we plan on going back before heading home! read more

I am editing this review due to feedback from the owner of this business. I have a 2015 Kauai Guide where the authors discuss this place as having great coffee, homemade cocoa, and some cool named bagel sandwiches. Well, the owner changed locations and dropped the fancy bagel combos, probably to focus on her other products. The menu is outside the red bus on the patio/balcony but seems to have some prices differently than on the price sheet that the servers consult. The outside menu listed their organic local bagels with butter for $2.80, which I thot was a bit steep, but per owner's comment, the price is actually $3. I ordered off the menu for an 8 ounce hot cocoa with non-fat milk for $2.75, while the 12 ounce size was listed as $3.5. The person that took my order was friendly, and the service was quick. I mentioned that the menu right outside her window indicated prices that were lower than she was charging, $3 versus $2.75, she shrugged and said the owners had a possible issue they needed to look at. I took my cocoa and walked back to my unit. It was hot, which is always nice, but unfortunately, it tasted very bland or watered down, as if there wasn't enough cocoa powder in it. I can't recommend this place for the cocoa. read more

The owners of this store bring their love and mana where ever they go. They used to be at another location, then jasper johns the owner of jj broilers got greedy and decided to raise the rent because he wanted to tax them to hell...Small Town Coffee said no way jose, didn't pay the ransom and are now serving great coffee down the street in a little red bus. Good for them. They still deliver great smiles, coffee and love. They have a beautiful garden and bring a great sense of artistic integrity with them wherever they go. I hope they will be able to get a better place. Right now the landlords all over the island so disgustingly greedy that they are putting small businesses out of business. people like johnanathan jasper and his greedy types are the reason why regular people can't make it on this island. Small town coffee in its last location made the island a better place but it still brings the good vibes and coffee to its loyal customers.
