I sat down and was immediately greeted with complimentary edamame. I ordered a virgin mojito (they made it so well) and 2 special rolls - moonraker and angel. Both were delicious and fresh. The rolls are large and come with plenty of ginger and wasabi. They have a ton of GF options as well as tamari for the GF crowd too.
With an excellent selection from their menu from which to order from for Happy Hour, Momiji is a seriously great value for fresh and delicious sushi and sashimi. Tucked away in Capitol Hill, the space is both intimate and airy, with a dark and moody bar and high tops in the front - facing the street - giving way to two small interior dining rooms facing a glassed-in courtyard garden. Very charming! Seated in a spacious booth, we were warmly greeted and given a plate of warm, salted edamame. I love restaurants that still honor the small acts of hospitality that seem to have gone by the wayside. Especially during Happy Hour; this gesture goes a long way. I've been to Happy Hour at other restaurants and, besides a few drink specials, a limited menu saves you a dollar or two. Not here. Savings were about 25-30% less. The fried calamari was outstanding- delicate and lightly fried, sitting on top of a bed of lightly dressed greens with a side of spicy aioli. The sushi and sashimi were all fresh and abundant, the bowl of miso soup generous, and the service was exceptionally friendly and efficient. Do not pass on Momiji, no matter the time of day, but especially at Happy Hour!
Came here one night as my friend and I were visiting Seattle for the first time and were craving sushi. No reservations, so we were offered a high top table in the front/bar, versus waiting for a table in the back. Server came over with some complimentary edamame & got our drinks. Our drinks tasted amazing! We soon put our sushi orders in and this is where we lost it. We both ordered a roll each as well as an appetizer. Appetizer came and tasted great. Eventually my roll came to the table but not my friends. No biggie, figured it was just taking a lil longer. After 10 min of no server and no roll, we flagged him down and asked when the other roll would be coming. Turns out, someone had taken the other roll and crossed it out on the ticket. After another 10 min or so, the roll finally came but we were already planning on leaving. Took the leftovers home. Bill came and nothing was offered to make up for the long wait. I would rather spend my money elsewhere for sushi.
Momiji isn't a sushi restaurant, it's a sushi palace. A sushi shrine with more square footage than your high school cafeteria. The table tops just keep going and going as you're eventually ushered down to where the fresh fish voyage begins. Before we could even order drinks, a beautiful surprise was brought to the table. Free edamame? This is outrageous hospitality. How did they know that I wanted this? I was prepared to pay $15 for it. I'm sure they do it for everyone, but it made me feel truly special. They have some very fun cocktails here, I ordered a Japanese-inspired old fashioned which was fantastic. We also had a clam dish as an appetizer which was unlike anything I've ever tasted at a Japanese restaurant. It was akin to an Italian style clam plate that is normally soaking in butter and garlic - but instead these little fellas were basking in miso soup with a deeply rich flavor. The sushi here is easily some of the best in Seattle. Each roll will be about $20, but they're ridiculously long bois. I was very full after splitting 3 of them. The taste of the sushi itself is off the charts. Every bite was incredibly fresh and balanced. All of the rolls that we ordered were also sitting in their own unique sauce, which accentuated the flavors of the fish even further. There are sushi restaurants that try to do wayyyy too much for each roll, and then there are sushi places that only focus on the fish itself. Momiji does a great job of finding their lane in between the two, and letting their creativity shine.
ok so. THIS PLACE ROCKS and i will not be taking constructive criticism on that!! we brought friends in from out of town and honestly?? momiji was one of the highlights of their whole trip and i am NOT surprised. this place is magical from the vibe, the decor, the energy, all of it just feels so special and intentional. let's talk about the food because wow. the fish quality is absolutely incredible for the price point, which is SO reasonable (like genuinely impressive for seattle sushi). the portions are huge (in the best way), and the panda roll specifically?? i will be dreaming about it until i come back. and i WILL be coming back. also a huge shoutout because they were so attentive and accommodating to my dietary restrictions without making it a whole thing, which as someone with restrictions honestly means the world. the service was spectacular start to finish, just so warm, attentive, lovely people. if you haven't been here yet what are you even doing. this is a forever favorite. we can't wait to come back
got takeout salmon rolls for dinner and we didnt wait too long! probably waited about 20mins for our food which is not too bad on a Thursday night.
I was here for a late birthday dinner for my brother-in-law. I was not expecting large portions when I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon noodles, but I was not complaining. The restaurant looked to be a nice size from my viewpoint towards the front. They have a late night menu as well, and a popular dish was the garlic short ribs...highly recommend!
We brought the whole family (two adults + toddler + infant) for my birthday at 4:30pm on a Monday, and had an absolute blast. The interior is really cute, and there's a huge back dining room with a glassed-in courtyard! I really thought the entire restaurant was that front bar space, haha. We were late for our reservation (see aforementioned toddler + infant), but they were incredibly accommodating. We were able to sit in a booth with a booster, and the carseat/infant fit into the booth, which is what the host suggested. She swept the stroller away, and it just felt like such a nice touch to make sure we could enjoy our dinner with our kids without feeling like we were getting in the way. Now, the food. Delicious delicious delicious. We ordered some from HH menu, and some from dinner menu. I think the nigiri on the HH may be smaller than regular nigiri? But we still very much enjoyed the HH sushi. Complimentary edamame was nice. The chicken karaage felt a little dry, but the lemon wedge really changed and upgraded the whole experience. Our waitress was never too far, but also didn't over do it with checking in. Overall it was a really lovely dinner experience, and def recommend it!
We celebrated our anniversary dinner here . Overall nice ambience and lively atmosphere. Service was friendly and warm. They have many vegan food options which is great. I've had vegan sushi in several spots and I think the veggie roll/ sushi could use a bit more flavor and texture. Parking can be bit hard to find but we could find paid parking at a short walking distance. I would definitely recommend trying once.
We stopped by after the boat show, we were starving. Parking was difficult to find, we didn't mind to have to walk ten minutes. There was a group of four of us and there was no wait at all. We were seated in the middle section of the back of restaurant. There were a lot of people there but it wasn't overly loud. We started off with oyster shooters, they were so good we ordered another round. We loved the pico de gallo in it , it also had a nice little spice to it as well. We also ordered the jalapeno hamachi as well to start. The yellow tale was tender and paired with the yuzu citrus sauce , it complimented the fish well. We ordered a plethora of rolls. The capital hill, bird of paradise, pretty in pink, four kings, and two of the three devil rolls. We ate almost everything, leaving a few rolls for a snack for when we got home. My favorite was the pretty in pink. But all of the rolls were spectacular. It's been a long time since we've been to a sushi restaurant where all of the rolls were amazing. I loved how many pieces each roll came with and all the sauces were deliciously paired with each different roll. We can't wait to come back and try more rolls.
Went for an impulsive date night and couldn't have been better! Food & drink: (5/5) Got started off with calamari and complimentary edamame. Absolutely loved the calamari. Seasoned, crispy, not too chewy, and had a salad with an addicting dressing underneath. As for sushi we got the salmon maki, yellowtail maki, madison roll, and angel roll. We tend to prefer simpler sushi so we also LOVED the maki rolls, especially because of how well they cook and season their rice. As for the specialty rolls, I chose the angel roll because of the fresh scallop while my partner chose the madison roll. Both were good but just didn't compare to the maki. I probably wouldn't get the madison roll again because I found the additions of lime and shishito peppers to be overpowering. Service: (5/5) We came maybe an hour before last call and they were still super accommodating. Not to mention that the space is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a date night.
Tried some new rolls today and overall they were pretty good. I thought the momiji roll was pretty good but I did notice it fell apart pretty easily and the knockout roll was also very tasty, not sure if they're my favorite rolls I've had there but were both really good

Delicious rolls and noodles! 12th Ave roll and the yakisoba noodles were amazing and definitely a favorite from our group. The noodles were spicy and very flavorful. The 12th Ave roll was delicious with shrimp tempura and spicy tuna. We also ordered the Madison roll but weren't huge fans of it. Other things we ordered were the miso soup, rainbow roll, and the crunchy cali roll. Service was great and the food came out fast. We also ordered the jasmine tea and hibiscus berry tea. The center garden area in the restaurant is beautiful and the overall ambiance is very calm and inviting. Overall a great dinner! read more

The ambience of Momiji is top tier. It's so inviting, cozy, and elegant. We loved the lighting and the garden. Perfect for a date night. Sushi was delicious! The Capitol Hill Roll was absolutely to die for! read more
Momiji never disappoints year after year. Made a reservation for happy hour at 4pm for two people, but we had two more people want to join us and they were able to accomdate it no problem and were so kinda about it! Sometimes I feel like hosts can be a snooty but they were amazing. Momiji's quality and service is always top notch. The food comes out lightning fast and is always so fresh! The lychee martini here is STRONG and not very sweet so just fyi. If you can't get a res, you can usually get a table close to opening but you have a 2 hour window to eat for the reservation coming, but for me we can eat so quick here since service is so fast! read more
We came here on a Saturday evening for late night bites. We had the most wonderful meal! The inside is very lovely with a great atmosphere. Great decor and feeling inside. The late night menu occurs after 10 pm and it is SO fun! They still have the normal menu going too and the menu is very large! So many options! I just stuck to the late night bites and had a great time. They bring out complimentary edamame and that is also very fun! It was delicious. I ordered a sushi and poke. I loved both! The ingredients tasted so fresh. The workers were also very nice and attentive. Overall a great deal for the price! I would definitely come back! read more
Ugh great!!!! Gotta come here again. First thing is all the big rolls are gonna be more than 20. Although honestly super worth it. So flavorful and I loved the Capitol Hill roll. Avoid the small rolls and just go for the main ones! Calamari was delicious and also huge, and came with a really good green sauce. Want to try the happy hour after 9 next. Overall super lively and crowded, I'd recommend a reservation. Good for groups and date nights. Dim and nice at dinner time. Service was great too! Fast and efficient. Excited to come back! read more

Came to Momiji around 9:00PM on a Sunday as a group of 2 and there was only a short wait! Food: - Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice: 5/5 Our server recommended this appetizer to us and it was so delicious. Rice was crispy, but not hard and the tuna was flavorful. - Yasai Tem-Zaru (chilled green tea soba noodles w/ seasonal vegetable tempura): 3/5 Not bad, but not great. Tempura was decent, but the dipping broth for the soba noodles and tempura was extremely bland. Just made the noodles a bit wet lol. - Asari Sakamushi (sake-steamed manila clams w/ sake, ginger & butter): 5/5 SOOO GOOD. Would come back just for these clams. The broth was so flavorful and had a lot of umami flavors. Wasn't too salty and clams were cooked well. I just did not like the bigger clams, but that was just my personal preference. We ended up drinking a bit of the broth by itself because it was that good. - Omakase: 3/5 We got the $100 of chef's choice nigiri and it came with 18 pieces (2 of each type). I wasn't expecting anything crazy because it's definitely on the more inexpensive side for omakase, but it was SOOOOO mid... We ordered nigiri because we wanted rice, but the rice was very wet/sticky and had too much rice vinegar. It ended up overpowering the raw fish and we just did not eat any of the rice. The raw seafood itself was good quality, but some types were just not the tastiest imo. - Hot Sake: 5/5 A good, classic hot sake. :-) Service: Servers were soo nice and accommodating. They made sure to ask if we had any allergies just in case anything we ordered had those allergens. They did seem a bit understaffed when we went, so there were times where we had to wait a bit longer than normal to order or get our food, but other than that the service was great! Pricing: $$ Very good pricing. The appetizers are definitely worth it for what you are paying. Omakase is alright. Probably a hit or miss, but definitely affordable for what you are getting. Ambiance: I came here with my friend, but I feel like the ambiance is really good for a date. Very dim lighting feels like a romantic setting lol, but it is overall a very beautiful restaurant. There is a dining area in the back of the restaurant that looks out to a garden. There is beautiful artwork on the walls too... I was really wowed by the way the restaurant was set up and designed. Will definitely come back when I'm in Seattle again! read more
We love the early and late night sushi happy hour spots in Seattle. This was a new one we were able to try. I would say they are a 4.5 in rating, maybe even a 4.7. They are located in the Capitol Hill area down the road from Seattle University. When you see the outside, you would not even think the inside is as big as it is. There is an area with a bar when u enter to the right, as you walk down the dim hallway to the back, the restrooms are located to the left. As you enter the next seating area, you will see the sushi bar to the right and tables all around. You can walk down another hallway on the left which is along glass windows surrounding a pretty garden. This hallway takes you to another eating area. Everything we ordered was good and the happy hour price was worth it. We ordered numerous sushi rolls, as well as side dishes, sashimi, and nigiri. We started off with some lychee martinis. Appreared to be pure lychee alcohol and very strong. Nothing to cut it but the ice it was shaked with. Nothing like the ones I make at home. Then we ordered some: 1. Agedashi Tofu (great sauce) 2. Assorted Tempura (good assortment and batter) 3. Kalbi Ribs (yummy and tasty) 4. Sashimi Set (yummy and fresh) 5. Misoyaki Butterfish (very delish) 6. Fried Calamari 7. Several Nigiri 8. Many Sushi Rolls Everything was delicious and great! The good came out quickly. Our server tended to us many times ans made sure that things were going well. We enjoyed our time here and would definitely return. If you plan to go, don't forget to make reservations which you can do online. read more

-Capitol Hill Roll: the seared salmon gives an amazing smokey flavor, this is a must try!!! (9/10) -Geisha Roll: pretty good, an interesting spicy roll to try but it wasn't anything too special (7.5/10) -King Ghidorah Roll: good, very flavorful but a little too saucy for me (8/10) -Truffle Toro: the ikura overpowers the toro way too much but it was fun to try. they ran out of toro so i had chu toro instead but i could see the potential (7.5/10) -Scallop Crispy Rice: the scallop was really good, i wish the crispy rice was a thinner layer as it drowns out the taste of the scallop (7.25/10) -Short Ribs: not bad (7/10) read more
Delicious meal from beginning to end. Started off with complimentary edamame. We went during happy hour and ordered some from that part of the menu. Safe bets and filling. Ordered Tropical paradise from the specialty sushi list. Sweet blueberry drizzle with strawberries and mango with salmon. Try sitting in the patio area as it seems to be quieter than the front section of the restaurant. The food came out quickly and the service was exceptional. Will definitely go again! read more
Came here on a Friday night for date night. The ambiance was fantastic, sleek with Japanese inspired aesthetic. The restaurant is unassumingly big with smaller sections for seating so it doesn't feel too busy. The service was fantastic, our food came out very fast and our waiter had great recommendations. The food itself was delicious, tasted fresh and had great presentation. I really liked this post, was hip, delicious, and easy! Would definitely recommend for date night or something fun and a step above casual. read more

Came here with 7 people to celebrate a friends birthday. All the sushi rolls were amazing. They're really large and the fish is so fresh. The flavors are perfectly balanced as well. We weren't really fans of the spicy ginger chicken, the flavor was kind of off and not crunchy at all. Everyone really loved the lychee martinis as well. The service was amazing. They constantly kept the table clean, waters full, and were very attentive. It did take an hour to get a seat in a Saturday for this many people, which we expected. We got seated in the center of the restaurant in the outside space and the weather was Perfect so it made for a great celebration! read more

I'm actually quite fed up with Momiji. To have to wait 10 minutes for a receptionist to show up. For no one to pick up their phone. Take out here is also worst than dine-in. The "crunchy" bits turn out soggy. Grilled fishes end up overcooked. Everything is shamefully overpriced. I am only keeping one star for menu variety and vibes, but I would never come back willingly. read more
This has been by far the best sushi I've had in Seattle! I came on a Tuesday night and we had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table for three. The restaurant is pretty big with an inside/outside kind of feel. We sat by the small garden in the back which made the experience so nice so it was also a pretty weather too! They have so many options to choose from but we ultimately decided to split four specialty rolls among three people. It was so difficult to decide on which to try but we decided with a Sounder Roll, Mr. Perfect, Three Devils, and 007. They were absolutely amazing! Each roll had its own distinct flavor. My favorite was the 007 roll because of the spiciness coming from the fresh jalapenos and shishito peppers . I also really liked the Three Devils roll because of the combination for sweet and spicy flavor coming from the strawberry-habanero sauce. Each roll ranged from $20 to $25 but they came with a lot of pieces so I feel like it was worth it. The service was amazing too! The server recommended a roll for us because we didn't decide. She said the most popular was the Mr. Perfect roll, so we tried it out. She constantly filled up our waters and was very nice to us. I'd definitely come back to try more rolls or really anything else off their menu! read more
Excellent food and great service! One of my favorite Sushi restaurants in Seattle. It is for sure more modern fusion sushi, but a great place to get some excellent food! Try to sit at the back of the restaurant next two their Japanese garden. Such a warm and great place. Dined here for my birthday dinner and was seated with a great view of the courtyard! The food was great and I highly recommend the fried oysters for an appetizer. The service was quick and efficient, but beware that they essentially usher/invite you to leave once you hit the time limit (1 & 1/2 hours for a table of two even though reservation will say 2 hours) hence the 4 stars. read more

I had heard good things about Momiji and it was worth the lunch visit. The staff was super friendly and shared a few of the menu favorites. The Geisha and Knockout were my two favorites but there was nothing bad at the table. I was lost impressed by the quality of fish; you can taste it when companies skimp. The location was smaller than I imagined but I was too busy savoring my meal to care. read more
The ambiance is very relaxed. It was cool to see outdoor space right in the middle of the restaurant. Service was great, very welcoming and friendly and also helped with food choices. All the food was order on the happy hour menu and it did not disappoint. Price is reasonable, would come back for sure. read more

Momiji is easily one of my go-to spots for sushi -- tucked into the heart of Cap Hill, they serve up delicious rolls and great cocktails! It's always very busy, so highly recommend making a reservation beforehand -- their online service is easy to use and we were easily able to get reservations for groups ranging from 3-6. The ambiance is super nice -- they have a deceptively large indoor space with a beautiful patio. The whole space has a bright, airy feel! The servers are super nice and knowledgable. They're always spot-on with their recommendations and I usually trust 'em to find me a roll and drink I like based on my interests. The rolls are DELISH and I really appreciate that they have so many vegetarian options! A few of my personal favorite menu items include the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Rising Sun roll, Hotter Than Hell roll (has a bit of a kick), and Tokyo Girl cocktail. I've always had a lovely time here and bring all of my friends who are visiting the city! read more
The oitdoor is very beautiful. I have tried both inside and outdoor, and I highly recommend outdoor seat in the middle of the restaurant. In my opinion, inside was pretty noisy even you can't hear your people. We ordered 11pcs omakase, but the size was pretty small and the price is a bit high, but still it was good. read more
Whenever I'm craving fish late at night, I come to Momiji! There's a lot of variance in the rolls they offer but I honestly feel like you can't go wrong with any of them. The staff is always on top of things. They're always so friendly and are proactive about refilling waters or asking if there's anything we need. The mood is dark and romantic - a great date spot for sure. I have always found the fish to be fresh. My last visit I had the Pretty in Pink, Spicy Rainbow, and Madison Roll. Every one of these rolls are so flavorful, you'll savor every bite. Out of all my visits so far, I felt as though the Madison Roll has been my least favorite just because of the sheer excess of jalapeño they put on the dish. However, I still ate all of it because the sockeye sashimi was *chef's kiss*. Not pictured below but for the more adventurous folks, the Demon Slayer roll will have you SWEATING. Dropped in for dinner, didn't have a reservation so wait time was ~45 min for a table (bar and the front area were available sooner though). On the outside it doesn't look like much but as you go back, the space is pretty large and it's a nice, chill vibe. Our server was friendly and support staff were attentive about refilling waters and cleaning up empty dishes. There's a time limit to dining of 1h45m, but that was a enough time for us since we just did a few rolls to share. The food was, okay. I enjoyed the edamame they brought to the table as we looked through the menu. For the rolls and the toro, some of the options didn't feel fresh and had a bit of a fishy taste which I normally don't get in good sushi. For the roll I enjoyed (3 devils), the flavor was good but nothing particularly stood out. Overall, not a bad spot (open until late, chill atmosphere, and friendly staff) but personally wouldn't recommend for the sushi. Rating 4/5 for the whole experience and considering the groups comments about their food. read more

Definitely try to make a reservation if you can just to make everything easier. Girlfriend took me here and it was amazing. Had the plum wine, lychee martini, both were delicious. To eat we had a spicy tuna roll, the Geisha roll, and the Capitol Hill roll. The Geisha is very unique and really good. The Capitol Hill roll is one of the best rolls I've had. Really great ambiance and service as well. Overall a wonderful experience. read more

As our party of 4 entered the deceivingly large but very intimate restaurant, we were greeted by a host who was happy, and appeared eager to make our dinner start as nicely as possible. super cute place with a few different areas for dining,each with different lighting which was cool. We were seated in the garden area which was really cute. The service was pretty fast as well. We got the hamachi and spicy rainbow roll and also got the mochi ice cream they had for dessert. I LOVE momiji! I literally have never ordered anything bad once, after going for years. The fish is fresh, and there are always fun, original new menu items to try. Momiji is so delicious it seriously gives me a reason to continue living in Seattle.....not to mention the interior is really lovely and well designed. Always a must for birthdays, anniversaries, etc!! Will ALWAYS recommend Momiji. Also the folks who work there are always super nice!! read more
A great spot for casual sushi in Capitol Hill without blowing your entire wallet. The seafood is prepared ahead of time so the moment you order, all your dishes will arrive within the minute. We were amazed of how fast service is. the sushi tasted pretty good and standard for what I was paying for. Nothing was slimy or lukewarm or smelly, which I appreciate are not in my sushi. Would definitely recommend going here again for some fast service sushi. There is also a long line for takeout here and takeout seems more common for orders than dine-in. Still the staff was super friendly and accommodating. Seating is limited to only 1.5 hours per table. read more

I went here for happy hour and I loved the food! The happy hour prices are very affordable and you get good amounts of food. We also got a regular priced roll and it was so much food! I would go again for happy hour. Their drinks were tasty, I wanted it to be a little stronger and they were ok with doing that. Plenty of seating, it was a little loud so hard for convos. We took my friend here for her bachelorette and it was a solid idea. Few places have reservations for 9 girls. We ordered a ton of food, expecting the portions to be small given its a nice Japanese restaurant but they were actually huge. We could barely finish our food! The service was also incredibly fast given how we ordered about 15+ dishes easily. The sushi was good, fresh, and there was a large variety. No complaints about anything except I wish sushi was a dish that tasted as good the next day so we could take leftovers. read more
Momiji is a great sushi spot on Capitol Hill. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice and there's even a japanese style zen garden in the middle of the restaurant. I made reservations for a Tuesday night around 7pm and was seated immediately in the patio seating right next to the garden. It took a while for our waiter to attend to us and take our order, but once our order was placed, the service was very great and the food came out at a good pace. My party of two ordered the yellowtail usuzukuri, the geisha roll, the asari miso soup, and a few nigiris. All of the fish was extremely fresh tasting and delicious. The sauces that complemented our roll and usuzukuri were very flavorful and really elevated the dish. I also ordered a Tokyo Girl cocktail which was a very floral and sweet tasting drink. Overall, I would recommend giving Momiji a try if you're in the area and craving some great sushi. Made reservations while in town and so glad we did. Solid spot, looks small from the outside but has plenty of seating inside! Definitely go during happy hour, the food was good for the price and location. Waitress was quick and attentive. Drinks were yummy as well! read more

Is there a tatami seating area? If so, is the tatami areanonly for large groups?
Hi Douglas! There is no tatami room at this location.
Is there outdoor seating?
Yes! They have the cutest little garden area with a Japanese maple tree that has about 4 tables. I'm sure they close it in the winter months, but I went in the beginning of October and it was perfect. Definitely have to request in a reservation.
Is happy hour still 4-6 every day? And if so, does that include weekends? Thank you!
It did when I was there in October! We went on a Sunday and had mostly Happy Hour.

Hi Deborah! Thanks for reaching out. We do offer happy hour throughout the restaurant between 4-6pm, and in the bar from 4-7pm. There is also a late night bar menu available 10pm-12:30am everyday. You can find these menus and hours on our website.

Small place but it's possible if they rearrange the tables.
