Came here one night as my friend and I were visiting Seattle for the first time and were craving sushi. No reservations, so we were offered a high top table in the front/bar, versus waiting for a table in the back. Server came over with some complimentary edamame & got our drinks. Our drinks tasted amazing! We soon put our sushi orders in and this is where we lost it. We both ordered a roll each as well as an appetizer. Appetizer came and tasted great. Eventually my roll came to the table but not my friends. No biggie, figured it was just taking a lil longer. After 10 min of no server and no roll, we flagged him down and asked when the other roll would be coming. Turns out, someone had taken the other roll and crossed it out on the ticket. After another 10 min or so, the roll finally came but we were already planning on leaving. Took the leftovers home. Bill came and nothing was offered to make up for the long wait. I would rather spend my money elsewhere for sushi.
Momiji isn't a sushi restaurant, it's a sushi palace. A sushi shrine with more square footage than your high school cafeteria. The table tops just keep going and going as you're eventually ushered down to where the fresh fish voyage begins. Before we could even order drinks, a beautiful surprise was brought to the table. Free edamame? This is outrageous hospitality. How did they know that I wanted this? I was prepared to pay $15 for it. I'm sure they do it for everyone, but it made me feel truly special. They have some very fun cocktails here, I ordered a Japanese-inspired old fashioned which was fantastic. We also had a clam dish as an appetizer which was unlike anything I've ever tasted at a Japanese restaurant. It was akin to an Italian style clam plate that is normally soaking in butter and garlic - but instead these little fellas were basking in miso soup with a deeply rich flavor. The sushi here is easily some of the best in Seattle. Each roll will be about $20, but they're ridiculously long bois. I was very full after splitting 3 of them. The taste of the sushi itself is off the charts. Every bite was incredibly fresh and balanced. All of the rolls that we ordered were also sitting in their own unique sauce, which accentuated the flavors of the fish even further. There are sushi restaurants that try to do wayyyy too much for each roll, and then there are sushi places that only focus on the fish itself. Momiji does a great job of finding their lane in between the two, and letting their creativity shine.
ok so. THIS PLACE ROCKS and i will not be taking constructive criticism on that!! we brought friends in from out of town and honestly?? momiji was one of the highlights of their whole trip and i am NOT surprised. this place is magical from the vibe, the decor, the energy, all of it just feels so special and intentional. let's talk about the food because wow. the fish quality is absolutely incredible for the price point, which is SO reasonable (like genuinely impressive for seattle sushi). the portions are huge (in the best way), and the panda roll specifically?? i will be dreaming about it until i come back. and i WILL be coming back. also a huge shoutout because they were so attentive and accommodating to my dietary restrictions without making it a whole thing, which as someone with restrictions honestly means the world. the service was spectacular start to finish, just so warm, attentive, lovely people. if you haven't been here yet what are you even doing. this is a forever favorite. we can't wait to come back
I was here for a late birthday dinner for my brother-in-law. I was not expecting large portions when I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon noodles, but I was not complaining. The restaurant looked to be a nice size from my viewpoint towards the front. They have a late night menu as well, and a popular dish was the garlic short ribs...highly recommend!
We brought the whole family (two adults + toddler + infant) for my birthday at 4:30pm on a Monday, and had an absolute blast. The interior is really cute, and there's a huge back dining room with a glassed-in courtyard! I really thought the entire restaurant was that front bar space, haha. We were late for our reservation (see aforementioned toddler + infant), but they were incredibly accommodating. We were able to sit in a booth with a booster, and the carseat/infant fit into the booth, which is what the host suggested. She swept the stroller away, and it just felt like such a nice touch to make sure we could enjoy our dinner with our kids without feeling like we were getting in the way. Now, the food. Delicious delicious delicious. We ordered some from HH menu, and some from dinner menu. I think the nigiri on the HH may be smaller than regular nigiri? But we still very much enjoyed the HH sushi. Complimentary edamame was nice. The chicken karaage felt a little dry, but the lemon wedge really changed and upgraded the whole experience. Our waitress was never too far, but also didn't over do it with checking in. Overall it was a really lovely dinner experience, and def recommend it!
We celebrated our anniversary dinner here . Overall nice ambience and lively atmosphere. Service was friendly and warm. They have many vegan food options which is great. I've had vegan sushi in several spots and I think the veggie roll/ sushi could use a bit more flavor and texture. Parking can be bit hard to find but we could find paid parking at a short walking distance. I would definitely recommend trying once.
We stopped by after the boat show, we were starving. Parking was difficult to find, we didn't mind to have to walk ten minutes. There was a group of four of us and there was no wait at all. We were seated in the middle section of the back of restaurant. There were a lot of people there but it wasn't overly loud. We started off with oyster shooters, they were so good we ordered another round. We loved the pico de gallo in it , it also had a nice little spice to it as well. We also ordered the jalapeno hamachi as well to start. The yellow tale was tender and paired with the yuzu citrus sauce , it complimented the fish well. We ordered a plethora of rolls. The capital hill, bird of paradise, pretty in pink, four kings, and two of the three devil rolls. We ate almost everything, leaving a few rolls for a snack for when we got home. My favorite was the pretty in pink. But all of the rolls were spectacular. It's been a long time since we've been to a sushi restaurant where all of the rolls were amazing. I loved how many pieces each roll came with and all the sauces were deliciously paired with each different roll. We can't wait to come back and try more rolls.
Went for an impulsive date night and couldn't have been better! Food & drink: (5/5) Got started off with calamari and complimentary edamame. Absolutely loved the calamari. Seasoned, crispy, not too chewy, and had a salad with an addicting dressing underneath. As for sushi we got the salmon maki, yellowtail maki, madison roll, and angel roll. We tend to prefer simpler sushi so we also LOVED the maki rolls, especially because of how well they cook and season their rice. As for the specialty rolls, I chose the angel roll because of the fresh scallop while my partner chose the madison roll. Both were good but just didn't compare to the maki. I probably wouldn't get the madison roll again because I found the additions of lime and shishito peppers to be overpowering. Service: (5/5) We came maybe an hour before last call and they were still super accommodating. Not to mention that the space is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a date night.
We were super excited to eat here since we've heard great things about Momiji for a while. We were seated pretty quickly with a walk-in which was nice and were put in a table in the back with the really pretty view of the garden thing outside. Only issue with the tables was that in that spot they were so close together with other parties, so it was very hard to hear the other person I was with. We first ordered drinks which definitely took a bit to put in and come around. We only had ordered a cocktail and a canned beer, which took maybe 15 minutes to come out. It then took another while for us to be able to put in our food order. We just ordered the unagi roll, the spicy rainbow, and the chicken karaage. This took a very long time to come out, so long that the server came around to ask if we wanted more food when we hadn't received our food yet. The rolls came out and at first they looked great, but later inspection and tasting just did not go well. Also, upon eating them we realized that they were kind of lukewarm and just not fresh tasting which led us to think they had been sitting out for awhile. - Unagi roll (2/5): the rice was unevenly cooked and there a very small amount of unagi actually in the roll. You couldn't taste it when eating it, just the cucumber and avocado that surrounded it. - Spicy Rainbow Roll (1/5) : The pieces were cut extremely uneven. Some pieces were unappetizingly large, while most were cut so thin it would fall apart once you picked it up. The filling was supposed to be spicy snow crab mix, but the amount of spicy mayo inside completely masked the flavor of the crab and fish on top. - Chicken karaage (2/5) : The chicken came out last and we were excited because maybe it meant it would be nice and fresh and hot. It was not. They were lukewarmish and not as crispy as typical chicken karaage I have had in the past. The pieces were also so large, it felt like I was eating a chicken tender instead. We did get a complimentary dessert since we were celebrating a birthday! We got the mochi ice cream flight which was pretty good, they came out slightly melty but they were still good. All in all we were at the restaurant for a little under 2 hours and in that time we had only ordered 3 items and 2 drinks. We were left kind of just feeling disappointed with the overall experience. Maybe we went on an off day or something but just left not feeling satisfied.
Quite impressed with Momiji in Capital Hill! We were scheduled to have dinner in a nearby Italian resturant and needed to kill about 30-45 minutes. We just happened to walk by Momiji and walked into a warm and inviting space that had great atmosphere. A few spots left at the bar at 4:30pm and we sat down for a cocktail knowing we'd be leaving immediately afterward. Still, the bartender and staff were great and we really enjoyed the cocktails. I sat my AMEX on the counter and without much fuss our minds were read and had a great check out experience too. By this time, about 5pm the place was now packed during a weekday. Lesson learned get there 4-4:30pm as they don't have a lot of space. Definitely will be coming back.
I visited Momiji for happy hour because I heard good things about it and after having it, I 100000% think it's worth the hype. I was surprised by the prices for happy hour here because it's so cheap so I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the sushi quality but I was! My husband and I ordered the crunchy Seattle, unagi roll, and spider roll to share and they were all so good!! From the 3, my favorite was probably the unagi roll and I'd highly recommend ordering that. All 3 rolls were either $8 or $9 too which is super reasonable. The ambiance here was also really nice and gave off upscale Japan vibes. Service here was good and our server was friendly and checked up on us often. We came on a Monday around 5pm and there was only a 10 minute wait. The restaurant is located in downtown so parking can be a bit tricky, but we were able to find street parking that was decently close during our visit. Overall, I'd highly recommend checking this place out, especially if you're able to make it for happy hour! read more
I will continue to come here and give five stars. One of my favorite spots in seattle because it is always so solid in regards to food, service, and ambiance. Now that we've been here for a while and tried a lot of rolls, our favorites are: - 007: thinly sliced jalapeño gives this an amazing spicy kick - Geisha: lightly sweet from the mango but just so perfect with the tangy citrusy sauce - Capitol Hill: has a sweeter sauce that pairs perfect with the salmon This combination of rolls are different enough and balance each other well. Aim for about one specialty roll per person, slightly more if you're feeling extra hungry. FYI the regular rolls are much smaller but also cheaper. The cocktails are all excellent. I also really enjoy the Kurosawa sake ($30/300mL). read more

Surprisingly good. So yea I came here with no expectations whatsoever cause I had been here once and it wasn't the greatest experience. This time tho, the happy hour is surprisingly good. Sashimi are fatty and tasty. The ultimate dragon rolls are booming. The service is quick. Honestly I would say all items on happy hours are pretty good. Making a reservation online is easy! There seemed to be lots of tables available. The restaurant is much larger than I expected. The different rooms made it feel a little more intimate. Our server was so sweet and very helpful answering all of our questions. Ordering is off a QR code. We got the wakame salad, kurabuta no kakuni, gladiator roll, and the street fighter roll. The wakame salad was huge and included two types of seaweed, which was new for me and delicious! The kurabuta was so tender - though it had very different flavors than everything else we got and I maybe wouldn't get it again with rolls. Both rolls were incredible and generously sized. I really liked the peppers on the street fighter roll, it gave it a really fresh flavor with an added crunch. read more

A solid sushi experience, but just shy of perfection. We visited Momiji with high expectations, especially since many consider it one of the best sushi spots in Seattle. While the food lived up to the hype in terms of freshness and flavor, a few details held it back from a perfect score. Here's how it stacked up: Ambiance: 4/5 The atmosphere is modern and comfortable, but nothing about the decor or layout particularly stood out. It was nicely lit and welcoming, but not the type of place you'd rave about for its setting. Authenticity: 5/5 The sushi and dishes we ordered were well-executed and fresh. The presentation was clean and elegant, and the quality of fish definitely matched that of a high-end Japanese restaurant. It stayed true to the flavors you'd expect from authentic sushi dining. Flavor: 5/5 Everything we ate--from the sashimi to the specialty rolls--was on point. Balanced, fresh, and flavorful. Easily the strongest category for Momiji. Cost: 4/5 Reasonable pricing for a sushi restaurant of this caliber in Seattle. It's not cheap, but you're paying for quality. That said, I do expect a flawless experience at this price point. Service: 4/5 This is where the experience dipped a little. Despite making a reservation, we still had to wait 10 minutes for them to arrange our tables when the group arrived. While our server was polite and attentive once seated, the restroom was not clean and had a noticeable odor--which detracted from the overall impression. Final Verdict: 4/5 Momiji is definitely a strong contender for top-tier sushi in Seattle, especially when it comes to food quality. Momiji is one of the best sushi places in Seattle! It has two different locations and is also a sister company to Umi and Matsu. Both of those restaurants are outstanding! We have celebrated birthdays, anniverarys and have taken many people there. It is a go to spot for amazing sushi drinks and vibe. We usually get the bbq short ribs, agatashi tofu, calamari some rolls and sashimi. If you don't like sushi another favorite is the spicy ginger chicken! Delicious!! It is better to make a reservation due to it is always full! If you're okay with bar seating a usual walk in would be 20 min wait or more which includes the bar! One of my favorite spots. read more

So glad I got to do a quick dinner stop at Momiji! It was a Monday night so it wasn't busy at all. I was so surprised at how beautiful the inside was! It reminded me of a lot of restaurants/cafes in Japan and South Korea. I only got the "Ponyo" roll and it was spicy and delicious! We had plans right after this so we were in and out of Momiji in about 30 minutes The service was great! I wish I was able to try more but I was glad with my quick meal at a place that's been on my list for awhile :) read more
Fab dinner, quality ingredients, healthy and filling. They offer delivery with everything packaged carefully, though dining in is prob a better option. Miso soup was small, but really tasty. Their happy hour always hits the spot. Must get the agedashi tofu, calamari (comes with a delicious salad and dipping sauce), hh rolls. We ordered the bad boy, crunchy seattle and spicy tuna. As a regular of both cap hill and slu locations, i think the hh portion in capitol hill is at least 1.5x bigger. Their hh cocktails are also great and of course the non hh menus are always good too if you're feeling a bit like splurging! I think this location ambiance is immaculate with a outdoor garden central to all seating areas. If you are a fan of Umi sake house, you will definitely get it here as well. the vibes are always great, love the garden and staff is always super kind. all the specialty rolls are delicious, i love going for happy hour as i think they have an amazing deal for it. their regular rolls are a good deal in my opinion, always a lot of fish and fresh. for the happy hour i recommend the nigiri set and their tempura platter + calamari is amazing. not the biggest fan of their lychee martini but their lavender drink and their hello kitty drink is super yummy. make sure to reserve in advance if you can or read more

Highly accessible restaurant situated in a nice part of SLU, with exceptionally friendly and prompt waitstaff! They're insanely good about keeping your waters filled, and I appreciate that immensely. * This was a birthday lunch for one of our friends, and the staff even helped us with the cake! For the service and experience, this is a top notch experience. 5 stars for that. * I ordered a Unagi Donburi, but this may have a mistake on my part. This didn't appear to be Momiji's specialty, so take my perception of their food quality with a grain of salt. I do love unagi, so I've had a wide variety of unagi dons across Seattle. Unfortunately, this unagi was slightly rubbery (barely) and didn't have much taste. The unagi did have the typical sauce, but this didn't do much to boost the flavor of the meat. The rice underneath didn't have much flavor either, so overall, I didn't feel the dish was particularly tasty -- or texturally satisfying. Overall, I would not recommend the Unagi donburi. With all that said, I would still give Momiji another shot. It's walkable, filled with friendly staff, and is one of my friend's favorites. I will be back to try other dishes, and next time, I'll ask for the staff's recommendations! read more

I liked the setting and vibe of the restaurant and the garden area is very pretty. My friend and I came during happy hour and we ordered 4 items total. My favorite was the calamari, the aioli was delicious and the salad was dressed the perfect amount. The beef was also good, but the spinach it came with was kind of mediocre and we barely touched it. Service was excellent as they constantly refilled our waters! I would definitely come here again and try some of the specialty rolls or items from the raw bar. read more

This was recommended by a friend and I am so glad I went. Got sat at a bar without a reservation and was greeted with free edamame. The sushi was fresh--I ordered jalepeno hamachi, salmon sampler (I'm in Seattle), and the street fighter roll. There were many rolls I wanted but this stood out because of the snow crab and tuna. I ended the meal with the black cod which was tasty and came with a salad that was nice to cleanse my palette. The bar is located in the front part of the restaurant and there is a bar area with more seating. I would come back and highly recommend a reservation. read more

My friend and I stopped by this past Thursday for dinner. They have happy hour deals every day from 4-6 PM! Our reservation (that we were able to snag that morning) was just before HH ended, so we were able to order a couple things off the menu. Our server was very nice and helpful. They give you a complementary bowl of edamame to snack on while you wait for food. The edadame wasn't that easy to eat (took a bit of chewing to tear open the skin), but I won't complain about free edamame. YELLOWTAIL SASHIMI (5 PC) - 10 I was so excited because the yellowtail had a great color and each piece was really thick. However, upon the first couple pieces, I noticed that it had a slightly fishy taste. Overall, still pretty cheap for sashimi! SASHMI DON - 11 I chose salmon for this and I really liked the salmon sashimi since it had a lot of fat and it was quite fresh. However, I really did not like the rice. The flavor was weirdly sweet on top of the vinegar. It's as if they dumped in 2x the amount of sugar they needed. Again, worth it for the salmon, but I wouldn't get the rice here again. Glad I got to try Momiji and especially during the happy hour for cheaper eats! read more

The sushi rolls at Momiji are delicious. Some of my favorites are the bad boy roll and the Seattle roll. The restaurant is beautiful and service is great. Tip: go in from 4-6 p.m. for happy hour prices! read more

A very cute restaurant with an adorable indoor courtyard toward the back. I arrived around 5pm on a Friday without reservations and was able to get a table for 2 facing the courtyard with about a 30 minute wait. The happy hour menu contains a lot of sushi options and tempura at decent prices. I got the Yuzu Stormy drink on happy hour and it was a great take on the Dark and Stormy drink with the freshness of Yuzu at the top. The sushi was pretty decent - I've had fresher fish but at the happy hour pricing, I can't complain. Plan ahead and make a reservation if you want a table facing the courtyard - it is super cute! read more
Menu had designated gluten free options (I have celiac disease). I had the crispy calamari, Philadelphia roll, four kings roll, and panda roll. The four kings roll was my favorite. Staff were very attentive and accommodating to my dietary needs. Be sure to communicate any allergies to your server. They had gluten free soy sauce upon request as well. This sushi was by far the freshest sushi I had ever tasted, very delicious. Food presentation was amazing. Cocktails were also very good. I got a lavender haze, mai tai, and pineapple mojito. Next time I'm in the Seattle area, I'll be sure to hit up Momiji for some more great sushi. read more
This place was a great find! I didn't have a reservation and all their tables were full but I could eat at the bar. To start I ordered a lychee lemonade. The first few sips were very lychee focused and it seemed to fade in flavor as I finished the drink and it was very very sweet. I provably wouldn't get it again but it was a good one time try. Appetizers- Edamame: they brought this plate out complimentary and I also ordered a miso soup. The soup was excellent. It was a cold rainy night and the soup really hit the spot. Sushi: I ordered mostly sashimi and one roll it was all excellent! The fish was fresh and the roll was very filling. The only thing with the roll was they were a little heavy handed with the wasabi on a few bites I was almost in tears haha All in all this place was fantastic and I would go again but I would make a reservation to get a table. The problem with sitting at the bar is every time the door opened a gust of wind came in which made it very cold and uncomfortable. We were famished and craving sushi after hiking all day, but unsure that Momiji would have open tables without reservation on a Saturday. It was indeed packed and the line was out the door, but they were miraculously able to seat us at the bar immediately where we enjoyed stellar, attentive service all evening. The crispy calamari and sashimi salad were our favorites - the cod was quite salty (or maybe we should've ordered a bowl of rice). The vibes were lively and fun, and we'll definitely return to try to snag a seat in the lovely courtyard in the back and try some more dishes. read more

This review was for the two dishes I had, the spicy rainbow roll and the Black Cod Kasuzuke. I really had high hopes for this restaurant especially with the high reviews. The restaurant itself is unexpectedly really spacious compared to what the outside perceives. Inside was beautiful modern Japanese/zen style. They had this cool beautiful Zen garden, which I wish I could appreciate more if it was more lit outside that space. I came at 9pm, and it was hard to see. I recommend dining in when there's daylights Our service was nice ,quick, and very attentive. We received edamame as a complimentary appetizer which was really nice. Despite everything else, I was really expecting more from the food. I ordered a spicy rainbow roll. The sushi roll was cut thin making it delicate to pick up. The rice was mushy, the sauce was too much vs the size of the sushi pieces. There wasn't much fish on the roll itself which is one thing I look forward the most about a rainbow roll. The snow crab inside was nice though. The Black Cod Kasuzuke was alright. Other reviews raved about the sauce, but it was too salty to enjoy. We even ordered extra sauce. This place has a lot of stellar reviews, so maybe we came on an off day. But it's unfortunate, because I really wanted to love this place. read more

Is there a tatami seating area? If so, is the tatami areanonly for large groups?
Hi Douglas! There is no tatami room at this location.
Is there outdoor seating?
Yes! They have the cutest little garden area with a Japanese maple tree that has about 4 tables. I'm sure they close it in the winter months, but I went in the beginning of October and it was perfect. Definitely have to request in a reservation.
Is happy hour still 4-6 every day? And if so, does that include weekends? Thank you!
It did when I was there in October! We went on a Sunday and had mostly Happy Hour.
