I posted a review of this restaurant a couple of weeks ago. My review was not the best solely due to the repeated poor service. My girlfriend and I returned to give Monarca's another try since the food is really good. Oscar was our waiter. He explained he was new at the restaurant. He by far was exactly what the restaurant needed. He was meticulous, timely, and overall phenomenal. We got Frink refills without asking, more chips and salsa without asking, and our food came out hot and delicious. The food was the best. Service was the best. If the Owners replace some of their "dead wood" servers with higher quality staff such as Oscar, the place will excel again. I would not recommend as long as the owners keep up with their staff. I went to eat there today for lunch and was not a fan, the food was bland, I ordered a shrimp quesadilla. They gave me less than a teaspoon of sour cream which covered one little piece of quesadilla. I asked the server for more she said ok. When I got the bill she charged me $1.50 for the sour cream and didn't tell me it was an extra charge. You should tell your guest about extra charges. We have never had what I would consider basic service and we waited over 10 minutes and never saw a server. Please remember the place was slow. We keep trying the place and every time we go there it seems to get worse.. not sure how that is possible?? Of the restaurants we frequent this place is the worst!!! First let me clarify, I review less than 10% of the places I dine. When an establishment impresses me I will post a review. If the establishment breaks a personal rule I will post a review. (I know I should post my personal rules, but mostly they are about customer service and etiquette, etc.) Secondly, I live to eat tacos. So much so that I seek out tacos at least three times a week in all my travels, if not more. So on with it! The Barbacoa tacos were amazing! Plenty of delicious, perfectly braised and seasoned meat, with a well balanced house made hot sauce. With that said... The salsa served with the chips left much to be desired and the ground beef crunchy taco was undrained and so watered down it collapsed as I picked it up, despite it being the first thing I ate. The service was great! The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The interior decor as was the gorgeous sign were well thought out and the atmosphere was very pleasant, minus the contractor beating and drilling while I was trying to eat. So why such a low rating you ask? I only eat tacos and specifically asked for only tacos despite being guided to the meal with beans and rice. But, when the check arrived I was charged for the meal and up-charged for the Barbacoa at that. When I brought it to the nice young ladies attention, she promptly agreed to correct the tab. No harm you say. Until she returned to tell me, as a gentleman in the back instructed her to do, that they do not sell a-la-cart unless it is in addition to a meal entree! Bahahahaha! Visiting from out of state and thought we'd give it a try. Food was good, drinks were good. Service was not great. Not sure our waitress would have checked on us if we had not asked someone else for more tortillas. We had fajitas. Had three small corn tortillas and asked for more since they were small. We were charged 3.00 for three more. I have never heard of that. Prices were high too. If you don't mind mediocre service and high prices, give it a try. read more

We just bought a house around the corner, so was hoping this place was good. Walked in and the smell was terrible, very musty. It was dark inside, the furniture is oddly huge. So dark and smelly are not a good start. The chips and salsa were good. The margarita and pina colada were good. My chicken entree was good, however the mushy weird frozen broccoli, cauliflower and carrots were an odd choice to put on the plate. Not Mexican and gross frozen veggies ruined the dish. Mediocre food and very slow service. Del mar tacos are very skimpy on the fish and the water tastes Nasty! They don't sell water bottles either. No regards at all for social distancing. To add insult to injury, my wife is a vegetarian and ordered a "grilled mushroom" taco. The mushrooms where mixed with several chunks of meat left over from the grill. For a restaurant that advertises a vegetarian section on their menu they are being very disrespectful to the Vegetarian/ vegan community. Once we brought up the issue to the waitress the restaurant's solution was to offer a free dessert which ended up being a store bought "tres leches" on a plastic container with a vacuum sealed lid. TLDR: it was okay. If this is the "best of Cape Coral" for Mexican food, there's not a really good Mexican place here. I'm from Texas. I have eaten at hundreds of Mexican and TexMex places in my 49 years. I prefer TexMex to "authentic" Mexican food. That said, I have a pretty high standard for Mexican food. Monarca's was nothing special. Overall, I think we are still looking for our Mexican food go-to here in the Cape. The good: -Service was friendly. We went at lunch, and the place was almost deserted. -Cheese dip was pretty decent. -Ambience was nice. Clean. The bad: -Food was very salty, especially the salsa, black beans, and rice. -Carne asada fajitas were okay, but the flour tortillas looked and tasted like they came out of a bag. -"Frozen" margarita wasn't very frozen. We ordered dinner pick up, since there is no phone order we tried online and when we picked up there was no drinks in the bag, went back and had to show I paid for soda and eventually got it. This is one of the worst places I have ever been to. The food took 1 hour to come out. And when it did it was freezing and the service is terrible they kept asking us if we wanted drinks and did not focus on the food. The waiter was very bad and did not check up on us. We have been visiting this is restaurant for over 5 years. It has continuously gone down hill, the hopes it would improve have faded after today's visit. They never have enough waitstaff and it is a constant turnover. We never see the same waitstaff ever. Today they had live entertainment which was so loud it made the meal even more unenjoyable!
