Fun place with a great 80s atmosphere. They have an interesting assortment of Asian foods. Check out the menu. We had Thai and it was delicious. I had the Massiman curry with beef and vegetables. I ordered it hot. It was spicy flavorful but it wasn't hot. We got some Sriracha and it gave it the pep it needed. My husband had drunken noodles with chicken and shrimp and he loved his also. The service was great. It's interesting there are so many foreigners from all over Europe here as waiter staff. There must be some kind of work travel program. I definitely recommend this place. Dinner on July 30, 2026. Asian cucumber salad ($13.99), pad Thai ($24.99, +8.99 with chicken), Imagine Dragons Roll ($21.99), Margarita-tini ($25), iced tea. This was our first time dining at this restaurant. You would think that this place would have taken to mind the many negative reviews and made improvements. But no, the food is shockingly bad and shamelessly expensive. For many diners, the quality of a Thai restaurant's pad Thai speaks volumes about the rest of the menu, sort of a litmus test. The pad Thai was easily the worst version we ever had in over 30 years of dining out: I would not call it pad Thai because it is just a flavorless mishmash of ingredients. I figured out that the one major thing that was missing was tamarind sauce. Pad Thai is not pad Thai without this key ingredient. Stop calling this abomination pad Thai. To charge $34 for this crap is criminal. Giving cutesy names to unremarkable sushi rolls will not elevate their taste. The "Imagine Dragons" roll is nothing special and served with, I kid you not, a pea-sized ball of wasabi. My husband has to search for it around the plate, literally. The cucumber salad was bland. I ordered the martini without asking for the price so I did not know that I was paying 5-star hotel price for it. It was good but we had to ask our server to take it back because I was very clear when ordering that I wanted a rim of salt and it was served without salt. The service was... serviceable. Being the only Thai restaurant in Ptown, this may be the first taste of Thai cuisine for many people, and serving really bad food will not create new fans of the cuisine. Johnny Thai should reevaluate their menu and perhaps have a knowledgeable chef or cook give them constructive advice. As it is now, we will not be returning to Johnny Thai. read more

Both the bar and the restaurant are winners here. A big hunk of a bartender made us delicious drinks and provided great conversation. We had our cocktails then decided to dine bar side. Loud for sure, but I'm old and it's ptown! I knew it would be. Food: we rolled in late and it's one of the few places that serve food late. Well I tell ya, you pay for that. And for everything. My wife for a Bacardi with juice (served over ice like a manhattan size glass) and I got basil chicken (gra pow) and asked for rice noodles instead of rice. He said there would be an up charge. Ok fine. They're rice noodles. No biggie. The bill was $58 plus tip. Fifty. Eight. The drink was $20, the dish $32 and noodles $6. it's 3 stars not bc of the price but the food was in the middle of fine. No outstanding flavor or depth. I would've like "more" more spice, more sauce, more basil. Just more..... So don't go here unless you plan not to worry about the bill and I'd go for the drinking and atmosphere instead of food. Best manhattan in Provincetown? That's a sad state of affairs if so. Their manhattan was $30 and tasted like the cheapest possible rail liquor they could use. After going to Provincetown for many years we decided to try this place mainly because we never had. Something must have kept us away all that time because the was across the board the WORST meal and the most deplorable service and tackiest (not in a good campy way) atmosphere I have experienced in a long time. We were a party of four and we all agreed.... Food: literally tastes bad, like old oil and regret. The spring rolls were fried mush. Not crispy not springy more like mush rolls. The soup tasted foul as if something was rotten and the noodles were oily and gross. Everything was bad. Even the salad was clearly a bagged premade salad mix with one sad cherry tomato on top, sitting there like a lonely cherry. I have had lots of Thai food in my life. This was not it. This was unappetizing unhealthy crap on a plate. You could get better more delicious Thai food out of the frozen food section of Trader Joe's in Hyannis. In fact Johnny take that as a suggestion? Maybe just buy Trader Joe's food and heat it up? That would be a huge upgrade to the swill you serve. The cost was very high and insulting for the quality and service. The waitress while she was sweet was basically unavailable. Food came sans any silverware and I had to walk to the bar to get my drink because she never came back.....please note the restaurant had only 6 customers when I was there so being busy is not an excuse. We were blown away with how great everything was. We were expecting a dive bar, but it was very nice and modern restaurant and bar. I was skeptical of Thai food in Ptown because I grew up with great food at my family's Chinese restaurant. Food was so delicious and honestly the best Thai food I've ever had. We had the Thai Tuna Tartare, House Pad Thai, and the Thai Peanut Chicken. My dad makes a pretty good Pad Thai, but the House Pad Thai blows his out of the water. Shhh! Don't tell him! There were chunks of beef that fell apart, not the typical thinly sliced flank steak. The calamari were also super tender, not rubbery at all. Absolutely delicious and great portion sizes. The food also came out really quick, which is a sign of a great Asian restaurant. We also got Thai Tea and the double espresso martini and they were great as well. Came here because my partner had great experiences in the past. Cocktails were on point and boozy the way I like 'em. Got the inside scoop from one of the bartenders (Duffy) at the adjoining Monkey Bar about what he recommended on the menu and he was spot-on about the Khao Soi Chicken (great Thai flavors bouncing around my mouth with satisfying noodles, some fried/crunchy, and some traditional). As an appetizer we had an order each of tuna and eel sashimi, both had substantial slices of fish with perfectly prepared rice. So enjoyable, and Johnny and David were so gracious. This restaurant doesn't know ANYTHING about Thai food. We were so disappointed by both of our dishes. The curries were bland and unrecognizable. The lack of flavor made them inedible. The serving staff was friendly and sweet although we received the wrong dish and even though we didn't make them take it back, we should have. The prices were high for the product we got. We had dinner here last night. I was a little hesitant after having read all the Yelp reviews. My friends have been eaten here before, but I was not totally reassured. But I was pleasantly surprised in the end. The restaurant is actually part of the Monkey Bar. There is no separation between the bar and the dining area. The ambiance was dark as befitting of a bar. We were a group of 5 and were seated in the back. Our server was actually the same guy who waited on us at the Crown and Anchor the night before! He was great--he was very attentive and gave his recommendations on drinks and food items. The drink menu was extensive. The martini list was itself a whole back side of a menu page. I got the dragon fruit cosmo martini, which was our server's recommendation. It was good! Now the food... the menu was a bit overwhelming. Thai is not the only cuisine that is offered. They also have Mexican, Chinese, and everything in between. We started off with some appetizers: calamari, vegetarian spring rolls and the pot stickers. The calamari was nothing worth mentioning. The spring rolls were sort of mushy on the inside, and perhaps a bit overcooked. The pot stickers were good, but like everything else, were overpriced for what they were. Yes... everything on the menu was in my opinion on the high end for Americanized Asian food. I would expect this price point at a trendier upscale fusion establishment, but this was basically a bar restaurant. I had the Nasi Goreng (Indonesian style fried rice) with "jumbo" shrimp. I was happy to see that the portion size was huge because again, I wasn't too thrilled about the price ($18 for the fried rice plus another $6 to upgrade the meat to "jumbo" shrimp (which was not really jumbo). The taste was okay. The place was dead when we we got there at 6:30 pm, but picked up by the time we left for our show (around 8:15 pm). While the food was okay and service excellent, Johnny Thai Bistro does not make my list of restaurants to visit while in P-town. read more

We came here for lunch and had a pleasant experience. We tried both a Thai entree and a sushi special. The sushi was good, basic, no complaints. The Thai peanut chicken was fantastic -- fresh, lively flavors. Service was friendly (we were one of few tables, so there was no servicing stress). I'm not sure why all the negative reviews but I can honesty say I was impressed with this little restaurant located right behind the Monkey Bar. We did arrive at 11pm so the menu was smaller to order from than the regular menu. I didn't know what to expect after having to wait for ten minutes to be seated but we ended up sitting ourselves. After that we got a young male waiter and he was on top of everything from refills to bringing us whatever we needed. We ordered the Ptown roll and the crab Rangoon's which my boyfriend said were the best he's ever had. I was very impressed by this place. 5 stars for sure. read more

I am going to be kind with this review, really, I could be much more difficult. Things started out nice, which made sense because when we walked in to the very dark place, we were the only customers. The host and waiter were very nice. But then . . . We ordered dumplings and I didn't have any but they were soggy messes, looking more like tripe than dumplings. When we politely said they were not so good, soggy, the host insisted that that's the way steamed dumplings are. NO, THEY ARE NOT. Annoyed, he took them away and, in the end, didn't charged us for them. My wonton soup was salty but OK. I got chicken in peanut sauce. There was a lot of it, but again not all that great. The seared tuna on a bed of iceberg lettuce was again, soggy, and bland, but the dressing was tasty. As I stated, the restaurant is very dark, and that's good because you really can't see how iffy the food is. The place we wanted to go was closed on Tuesday night so this seemed like a benign choice. WRONG CHOICE. This was a fair review, and consistent with many others. Johnny, get with it or just be a bar. The bar looked like it could be fun, as fun as a bunch of monkeys are.
