I love this place and will come back again and again when visiting Ptown for several reasons. Reasons why in order include: #1 service #2 hours #3 food #4 ambiance/decor/space I'll start with the food- sushi rolls were pretty good. Nothing out of this world, mouthwatering or jaw-dropping for the price, but good. Fish was good, rice was good overall satisfied. The chicken dumplings were SO GOOD we ordered a second plate of them! Yes, they were that good. The sauce that comes with them, lap it up with a straw. So good. I overdosed on my sodium for the week, but it was GOOD. Hours and space-- I swear, unless you go at the heart of tourist seasons, places just don't stay open for dinner. We bopped around all day, bikes, swimming, shopping, drinks, so we weren't ready for an earlier dinner. We were ready to eat around 9 or so. NOTHING was open!! Luckily we found Saki and were SO THANKFUL! It's sort of tucked away and you have to go up the staircase. It used to be a church I guess, but then it was a movie theater! The space is awesome, and even if it's busy there is enough room for people. Service-- our bartender/server was fabulous!! His name I believe was Jason, he was so friendly and nice and we had a great chat with him all night. The evening manager was also so friendly and hilarious! We went to Saki based on a recommendation of excellent sushi and food. The first serving was a poke bowl ( which was fabulous with a generous helping of seafood) and 2 mixed drinks. Both drinks were very weak with perhaps too much juice or sour mix . After this was dropped off, the server did not come back for at least 20 minutes and did not give us water. We did take a couple sips of our drinks as we ate since there was nothing to wash our food down with as we waited. I informed the waitress that we did not like the drinks . She took them back and a very rude, defensive bar tender came to the table and insisted those drinks were fine and that's how he makes them for everyone. he asked if we wanted him to remake them and my boyfriend said yes as they took them back. I immediately thought that I should change mine to a glass of wine since that would not involve any mixing or expertise in cocktail making . I went back to tell them this and the bartender said it didn't matter since he intended to charge us for the two drinks that were 2/3 to 3/4 full along with the new drinks and accused me of trying to get extra. That was totally uncalled for , nasty and rude. It is so cheap for them to make a new drink that they should have accommodated the customer like any other establishment would. I took back the drinks since we were paying for them no matter what. We did not enjoy them but suffered thru them and cancelled the request for his remake.. No one should have to do that ... I didn't want to stay but my boyfriend was hungry . The hamburger came out burnt. and they chicken dumplings were horrible too. The french fries tasted like frozen fries. I came here based on a friend's recommendation because I was in the mood for some sushi, and I was somewhat disappointed. I started with the avocado salad, which was pretty good albeit a bit mushy. Then I ordered the caterpillar and scallop makimono, and this was a mistake. Maybe I should have stuck with the Thai food, but I figured the sushi would be decent since it also took up a lot of real estate on the menu...? In general, the rolls kept falling apart when I tried to eat them, and the flavor was only ok. The interior was modern and spacious though, and the service was excellent. I'm going to upgrade to 5 stars. Went back again last night and had another outstanding meal. Everything is so fresh - the sushi chef is spot on. We had the "small boat" but we had to ask for modifications due to a soy allergy at the table. We were accommodated (no mayo, no flakes, no eel sauce) and everything was drop-dead perfect. The sushi chef visited our table to make sure that what he chose to prepare was OK with us....and he even delivered the boat himself. Beautiful presentation. The server was excellent, too. Sushi/Asian fusion in a very cool space. We tried the monkey brains and poppers for appetizers, huge and stuffed with various fillings. Very rich and too much going on. The spider roll was good as expected, the spicy tuna roll more of a tartare rolled in rice than pieces of tuna. Couldn't find maguro on the menu. The papaya salad was great, the avocado salad a bit too creamy for my taste. Our server was excellent, pouring our cocktails right at the table. They even went out and got a burger for our son at a neighboring restaurant after disclosing that the burger listed on their menu was not being offered that night. HUGE find in P-town!!!!! So happy to have stumbled upon this the morning of our week-long trip back to town. As a major Thai fan, my fiancé and I are always looking for something new and different- and boy did we find it! Tucked upstairs above Ben and Jerry's in an old church is this little gem. SUCH a nice waitress who gave us the low-down on what to get. We got the rock shrimp app which was great! We shared the shrimp pad Thai and chicken pad see yew. AMAZING!! Rivals our favorites in New York which is crazy! The best part about this place is that we had no idea it was there. Typically when we're in p-town we go right for the local cuisine- lobster rolls, fried fish, etc. But this place is a special treat! Can't wait to come back and eat it again! Came here for a family outing and I can't say enough about how great this place is. Our waitress was so personable and accommodating throughout the entire meal. Every single dish we received was outstanding and cooked to perfection. Fried Brussel sprouts, crispy chicken, pad Thai, stir fry, and every sushi roll was freshly prepared and delicious. Can't forget the gorgeous atmosphere of the space either. I'll most definitely be returning to Saki whenever I'm craving Asian cuisine while in Ptown. read more

Right now, I'm thinking about their chicken dumplings. Our bartender Jason and the manager that night (can't remember her name), were outstanding. They were friendly and sociable and it made the experience that much better. Props for being the only place open after 9:30 on a Sunday. It's in an old church, which is very cool. We ordered a couple of sushi rolls, one was tuna and the other had salmon...can't remember the names but one had the word "cherry" in it. Both were fantastic. You're going to pay through the nose because it's P-Town, and the rolls were expensive, but the quality is worth the price on vacation. Will be going back next visit! read more

Overpriced for poor service and shit product,,, step up. I work in downtown Boston and eat sushi for lunch a few times a week,,, this was worse than the worst I've ever had on all counts. My bill was $120 for two and they wanted to upcharge $2 for a little cup of spicy Mayo,,, I declined. The rolls were MANHANDLED *not in a good way* very loose and elongated rolls,,, the rice had a split all down one side. They were generous with the spicy tuna in the roll,,, I was pleased with the amount of protein in that roll. The drinks were good, but still like what you'd expect from a freshman dorm party,,, If the Green Dragon is the most popular,,, maybe do a little better than a teensy piece of tempura shrimp in the middle of a rice ball draped in avocado?? I want to like Saki, i really do. A cool sushi place in an old Methodist church? It has all the makings of a cool restaurant, but ugh..... it just falls short.... We had reservations and were stuck in the back corner by a wait station, which isn't fun, and being the back we got Inattentive service (Water refills? Hello?) and it's pretty pricey -- even for P'Town. The sushi ranges from good, to pretty great, but the super-ultra-salty soy sauce was a turnoff. Huge high ceiling space need moor "oomph" maybe some banners across the ceiling, it just seems a little like... well, a former church that wasn't transformed much. This is a hard one to review. On the one hand, they mix a mighty fine cocktail and their sexy, sleek interior makes for a gorgeous evening. On the other hand, I found their sushi just 'ok'. I mean, it wasn't bad. The fish was fresh and lovely. The rolls themselves, though, *shrugs* meh. My recommendation: Go for before dinner cocktails--maybe an appetizer or two. What a little treasure! I went on a date here late last night... and while walking down commercial st. at 9:15, I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to find a place for us to eat, relax, and get to know one another at the late hour. I am so happy that we chose Saki! Being someone rather new to the world of sushi, I'm always anxious to try new thing. Although I've only been to 4 or 5 different sushi restaurants.... this was HANDS DOWN the BEST sushi I've had. It was so fresh, tender, and flavorful. We had the spicy tuna roll and the Provincetown roll - I was so very pleased with the delicious combination of apple with the tuna and wasabi! We received a complimentary squid salad - yum!!! ...and one musn't neglect the crispy chicken appetizer with a little kick, either - the ma poi chicken was scrumdiddlyumtious!! The martinis are good and fruity! My date loved his cucumber sakitini - I of course had to switch to straight vodka after my first martini - because I'm a sucker for the harsh taste of Absolut Ruby Red. AND OH BY THE WAY - It is possibly to have a friendly sushi chef! They work here at Saki! Friendliest sushi bar I've seen yet! I have never had better sushi in my life.... and I love sushi! I've lived in Ptown for 3 years and had never been to Saki until last week. I'm going again tonight and again next week with friends. We started off with the Miso Soup which had a totally different flavor than what I've come to expect. The mushrooms in the Miso broth gave the soup an amazingly earthy texture. The first sip was a little "wait.... what is this?" but by the second spoonful, I was hooked. For dinner we split an order of the Spider Roll and the Green Dragon. The Spider Roll was a major stand out. Amazing flavor and texture... we didn't even need soy sauce. I will absolutely be ordering this again and would very highly recommend it. The Green Dragon Roll was also wonderful, but not as good as the Spider Roll. Warren was our waiter and he was a total gentlemen and made some great suggestions. A+ for him and we left more than the standard 20% tip because of it. A few people on here have had some really harsh things to say about the hostess/manager (same person). When we first came up the stairs she had a few remarks that were... very surprising. I dont know if she knew we were locals or not, but regardless, it definitely caught us off guard. Having to deal with the public can be hell, but I think she like many of us in town is suffering from "Augustitis." Since then we've chatted briefly with her and I think its just part of her personality. We still love Saki and it has become one of our favorites in town. read more

We also order the rock shrimp and Tokyo tower appetizer. We ordered a couple of rainbow rolls, a couple of cherry blossom rolls, and a salmon mango roll. The fish was super fresh and very tasty. But, it is definitely on my list of "Try it again" I got the Summertime in Tokyo which was a refreshing drink - really great given the heat outside. For Apps, I had the chicken gyoza. Very OK. For my rolls, I had to go for the Jala-Hama because I wanted to compare the jalapeno on top to something (heavenly spicy sexy roll) similar I had in Vegas. But this one had no comparison to that. Something was missing. The combination of crabstick and avocado was wrong and didn't work with the subtle heat of the jalapeno. And to go with it the Provincetown roll - again, sushi chefs or whoever creates the combination for a roll should take risks and be spot on if trying to be super adventurous. For someone who eats a lot of sushi and is definitely not a snob, it either works or it does not. In this case - it did not. The combination of ingredients didn't work for me. But I cannot give anything less than 3 stars because it was not bad for a sushi lover. Others in my dinner party were happy with what they got but all of us left with a common sentiment - "for the price, it was OK. Expensive but OK." And that's why I will try and come back and give it another shot (definitely different rolls unless the menu has changed next season). read more

And we walked in tonight having a reservation for four and was greeted by the most rude host one could possibly imagine. She informed us that I'm sure she doesn't our jobs and therefore we cannot possibly understand hers or why we would not want to sit exactly right at the entrance of a very crowded post area. We had a very good but pricey meal with quite good service that was just fine but a little slow given the fact that the hostess told us we had to be out of that table within an hour. After we asked our very nice server if we could speak to the manager...... We found out that the incredibly rude hostess is also a manager. wOw! I have been a bartender and server for many years and also involved in the restaurant industry for many years and have never been greeted so rudely in a restaurant which means I understand and usually very forgiving of many situations. What a wonderful surprise! Saki sits back off the madness of Commercial Street, down a darkish corridor and up a flight of stairs, into... one of the loveliest rooms in Provincetown. A converted Methodist church, Saki's high ceilings, understated contemprorary decor, and general air of effortless comfort set it apart from many of the town's often crowded, hectic, or minute eateries. And the food! Perfectly fresh, inventive, and generously portioned sushi, rolls, and sashimi; what looked like excellent, equally interesting Thai; and a full bar to boot (one dominated by the fun mural of flying saki bottles that sets the room's tone). I really appreciated the menu's wide range of different and creative choices that deftly avoids the kitschy or tacky (the ladybug roll, topped with a half cherry tomato and a dab of black caviar, is about as far out as it gets). Instead, it's a nice classic mix, which fits the overall mood of the place beautifully. Janet, manager/hostess extraordinaire, sets the tone, the rest of the staff follows her first-rate example, and the result is a relaxed, comfortable haven, equally good for a couple or a (non rowdy) crowd. That on top of all that the bill is surprisingly non-painful (we had more than we ought to have eaten, plus drinks, for $120 for two) just makes Saki that much better. Stay way! Overly priced sushi that tasted like the ones you can get from a supermarket. We ordered a dragon roll, rainbow roll, tamago, and spicy salmon. The spicy salmon was a hand roll, and I agreed to ordering this, but did not expect it to literally be for a hand to hold. It was not shareable as it was created for one person. It costed $10... Our whole meal costed upwards of $70. We were not satisfied with the presentation at all. Our waitress told us that we would get a boat, but no boat arrived. The decor is confusing. There are some Japanese light fixtures with clothes pins around the restaurant with combination of black/white milk bottle portraits and a distressed painting. What did these other yelpers eat?!!? are they from cities with no Japanese/Thai food?!? between me and my GF, we ordered three different rolls, the thai soup, chicken lettuce wraps and the drunken noodle entree. the lettuce wraps were a solid OK... not at all spicy- far too sweet... a little soy sauce went a long way with those. the thai soup was Meh at best. the sushi and drunken noodle dish had to have been some of the worst food i've had in a while. flavorless and completely spice-less (even though i made a point to order it very very spicy)... it was really heartbreaking to pay that kind of $$$ for what we ate. really, my local chinese take out shop does a better spicy tuna roll. shockingly boring food. you can do so much better elsewhere in Ptown. read more

HORRIBLE horrible place. Made a reservation for 8:45, showed up at 8:30 and didn't even get seated until a few minutes after 9. What's the point of making a reservation? The hostess was really rude and only gave us a table after I kept asking her how much longer it'll take. Our waiter was really absent-minded as well. The service was pretty bad, and it took forever for him to bring us water. They were only good at bringing us the check. The food is mediocre. We had heard from other guests at the Carpe Diem Inn & Spa about Saki and how wonderful it is. Let me start with the fact that my life partner does not like sushi (or at least he claimed to prior to eating here). Saki is located within a converted Methodist church and outside of the high ceilings, large windows, and wide open space you would never know. Very understated décor, effortless comfort, and reclaimed wood tables and bars. Very nice mix of wonderfully generous portions of sushi, rolls, sashimi, and Thai food. The staff was great, the manager/hostess very gracious and attentive, and the owner aware of what was going on while working behind the sushi bar. He had the Green Dragon (shrimp tempura, topped w/ avocado), Pad Thai (shrimp), and I had the Spicy tuna (tuna, tempura crumb, spicy mayo). And in the end the bill was less than $100 for dinner. read more

Love it here. Random location you'd never guess it were there! Definitely a local spot- not too touristy which is nice. The inside is beautiful. Spacious, clean, cool! Waitstaff always friendly and the woman who is typically there to greet you is so sweet and accommodating. We typically get the shrimp pad Thai, chicken pad see ew, and some form of appetizer. Last year we got the rock shrimp appetizer which I regret not getting this year. We went with the shumai which we typically love whenever we get Asian food. Issue here was they were simply advertised as shrimp purses, which is what we're accustomed to. However, there was no indication of a wasabi sauce drizzled over them. Wasabi is a very acquired and strong taste that not everybody (us included) enjoy. Needless to say- we were not fans and a little upset that they weren't listed as having that sauce. Definitely wouldn't have gotten them. Pad see ew was great- wish there were more noodles. Pad Thai here is unbelievable. Very traditional with a fish and oyster sauce. LOVE IT. Wish an option of beef pad Thai or beef pad see ew were an option. Seems like it's only veggie, chicken, or shrimp. Overall? Amazing place. Great for a rainy night which is when we went. Only been here once, but I'm sure I'll go back. We ordered a variety of sushi, enough for four, and was not disappointed. The environment was different, a converted Methodist church, and was very upscale. We were two couples. While the girls were parking the car, us men went off in search of this place. Down an alley, up a flight of stairs and we're in. We told the hostess that we were waiting for our women and she said "that's ok if you guys are out on a date". You have to know P-town! It was funnier after a few drinks. update: Been here several times. I'll keep coming back. update 2: Had 4 rolls and they we just ok. What would normally have solid and recognizable fish pieces inside had ground up fish. For instance, we had a rainbow roll that should have lobster, salmon and crab stick inside. I had to ask our waiter if this was a rainbow roll and he said this was normal. Also, the fish on top wasn't even close to being a rainbow. One of our other rolls had the same ground up fish. This seems lazy to me and doesn't inspire confidence in what we're eating. The roll with eel had tiny pieces of something that didn't have any taste. Sorry guys, you have gone down hill. I have to take my solid 5 stars and change to 3 stars, I was even considering 2 stars. This is a really nice place, but the food is what we come for. Update 3.... Again, the sushi rolls were mushy and loosely rolled. Also, the price has gone up to where I need the food to be stellar. So what if I told you that there was an affordable (and somewhat sceney-looking) sushi place above Ben and Jerry's?? Yeah I couldn't believe it either. I have been going to Ptown for three years now and was finally introduced. We had a large party of 12 and they worked some magic and seated us right away around 6pm on a weekend. While their drinks won't be bringing us back, their sushi was quite delicious. I had an order of the spicy tuna roll and the spicy salmon roll and both were very tasty. It was also enough food to satisfy me--even after a couple drinks from afternoon tea. In addition to this restaurant having friendly service, a great vibe, and flavorful sushi, was the fact that it didn't break the bank. For those two rolls, I got out of there with $25 including tax and tip, which is very reasonable considering Ptown pricing. Overall, this place has quickly become one of my favorites in the area and I look forward to going back again next time I'm in town. read more

This was one of those cases of "I really wanted to like it, but...". There was nothing really BAD about Saki, but they struck just enough off notes with me that I can't justify a great review. We didn't have any of the service issues others have mentioned. We booked ahead on OpenTable, showed up 5 minutes early, and were seated right away. Our waitress was pleasant, prompt, and polite throughout the meal and always kept our water glasses topped off. The loss of stars comes with some missteps with the food. We got two rolls to start (Dragon and Spicy Tuna). The spicy tuna was good but surprisingly bland, you could not call that spicy by any definition of the word. The dragon roll was tasty but had too much "crunch" in the center, which we found a little off-putting. For the main course I had the Vietnamese BBQ short ribs, which started out good but declined as I continued to eat it. On the plus side, they do have a fantastic BBQ glaze and the ribs, side salad, and potatoes all came in very generous portions. As I started eating the ribs, however, I discovered that the meat was EXTREMELY fatty, as in I've never had such fatty ribs in my life. A couple of the ribs were even broken, such that i had several segments of bone under the meat that i had to be careful not to swallow. Also, they drowned the side salad pretty heavily in vinegar, to the point where I only ate half of it because i just couldn't take any more if that vinegar taste. All in all, it wasn't the worst meal, but at $90 for two people, I expected far higher quality, and my boyfriend and I agreed we would probably never go back here. read more

My friends and I so love this place, from the moment we walk in and are greeted by Janet ,,,, a perfect host who runs the place with such warmth .... and efficiency . She, like the whole ambience are a breath of fresh air from the regular more traditional P Town restaurants that are .....how can I put this nicely? .... due for some care and attention. I am a sushi aficionado and eat it regularly back home in London & Miami but i am well impressed with both the selection and the quality of what thy serve here. It's excellent. To the right of b&j there is long candle-lit walkway that circles up a flight of stairs that will lead you directly into the restaurant (a renovated church). This place rocks!!! I had never even thought that I could ever get quality sushi in PTown. I was wrong. Shocked!! Saki exceeded ALL expectations!! Delicious, fresh fish, interesting choice of rolls. And the SPACE!! High ceilings, modern decor. GORGEOUS! The space has an interesting history.. Used to be a Methodist Church built in 1800's. Saki - Big space!! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Provincetown, Massachusetts

This WAS my favorite sushi restaurant in New England but I had an experience that changed things. Amongst a substantial meal - we had salmon sashimi that tasted rotten - my partner almost threw up. Everything else was spectacular (although sashimi portions have been downsized noticeably which impacted my decision to update this review). Our server was fantastic and reported the issue to J the manager/host. We asked when our bill was delivered (with no apology from the chef or deduction in bill) if any there was any reaction to our complaint - our server told us to check with the manager as to her response. As we left, the manager was busy seating customers so I decided not to pursue the issue (and our indigestion) as I dont think it's MY job to pursue a complaint when I have already made it once with the server and neither the manager or sushi chef (right in front of me at the sushi bar) felt it necessary to deal with. We were so sad to say goodbye to Saki tonight. Five stars for memories of a stunning restaurant - four stars removed for cowardly management and dysfunctional systems. read more

Fantastic room, made over from a former church, so the ceiling is remarkably high and the woodwork is from the original structure. The food is phenomenal, the service attentive without being overbearing and management cares about your experience. Make this a P-town stop. read more
