Went here with some friends after Tea Dance to grab drinks and some food. For food, we decided to go with some sushi rolls, steak and chicken skewers, and the pad thai. Of all the food, the pad thai was definitely the best of the dishes. It actually had great flavor and really was a great dish. The other meal items were alright, but definitely not worth writing about. Overall, the service in this place was pretty good but the prices seemed to be pretty high considering the dishes. My friends were super excited when they saw a sign that advertized "sushi and taco happy hour" so this is where we went. Personally, I didn't particularly care for this combo, but I figured there should be something edible on the menu ;-) I have to say, the staff was incredibly nice and friendly. We ordered a round of drinks for $14 each, which is pricier than what we pay in Boston O_o The drinks were a little bit weak, but we didn't try to get tipsy so that was fine. Unfortunately, there are very few vegetarian choices on the happy hour menu so I ordered off the regular menu. My $14 veggie burrito came with fries and was surprisingly tasty considering this is supposed to be a Thai place. My friends loved the sushi rolls, spring rolls, crab rangoons, nachos, and tacos off the happy hour menu. While the menu did say "happy hour prices" the actual price difference seemed to only be about a dollar per item. In general, the restaurant seemed pretty expensive. I got away with a $14 burrito because it was vegetarian -- as soon as you add meat to any dish the prices skyrocket. There were dishes for $20+ which I can rarely justify. So while the food tasted good, I don't think it's quite worth the price and I'll look elsewhere next time I'm in town. read more

You're going to walk in and think it's expensive. You're going to walk in and scoff at those prices. You're going to walk in and wonder if you should walk out. Please: stay anyway. I have never in my life had tom kai gai soup with the rich depth of flavor as that soup, and I've had a lot of different tom kai gais in my time. My boyfriend's meal was just as spectacular. The ambiance is fun, the music enjoyable, the staff exceptionally sweet and friendly. The drinks were delicious. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. The fact that this place not only exists, but is located on the main strip of an otherwise lovely tourist destination is mind blowing. You might think that their exorbitant prices are justified by the fact that their portions are cartoonishly enormous. They are not. I felt genuine guilt as I dumped out what seemed like 5 pounds of Pad Thai back at the room. (I had only taken the rest home as a courtesy.) Admittedly, I found the restaurant's ambience and decor specious so I tried to play it safe with a classic Thai dish. Based on my experience, I can only imagine what some of their more experimental fusion dishes taste like. Probably like something from the Moon, because the Pad Thai that I had contained spices, flavors, and ingredients the likes of which no human has ever tasted in Pad Thai anywhere on this planet. And the drinks. I told my boyfriend to order me an Old Fashioned while I went to the bathroom. He later told me that that the waiter didn't understand the request: he had never heard of an Old Fashioned before. Both of our drinks were not only disgustingly strong, but literally painful to consume. The only redeeming part of our experience was turning the consumption of these drinks into a kind of dare. That and the fun we had watching people at other tables grimace whenever they took a sip of their own presumably unrecognizable concoctions. It was so unpleasant that it was almost comical. Has to be the worst Thai food i've ever eaten - shocking bad pad thai made with tomato sauce!! And the red curry chicken was more like coconut onion. Steer away from this place, such a rip off too - was $120 for dinner for 2 - an absolute joke. I can't believe Americans think this place is good. I mean $27 for a pad thai?! $17 for a cocktail when much more fancy places are $9.50 on commercial road. My husband and I really enjoy the food here and the drinks from the adjoining Monkey Bar! We come here every year and I always get myself a Singapore Sling which leaves me always a bit buzzed and order up one of my favorites: the Ahi Tuna sliders....yes, yes, a thousand times YES! The decor is fun, the service very good and the dish and drink names are a good time. I enjoy the Rihanna :) Will go back again next year! read more

The sushi is great, as are the drinks, but I'm not a fan of their thai food. It's a very different flavor from other thai places. I usually like things that are different of have their own unique twist, but this one was not my favorite. But check it out yourself. I do love the place. We stopped in for a mid afternoon drink and snack and were too early for the 3pm happy hour snacks. Sadly all it would have done was knock off a dollar. The Thai guacamole had a good kick to it and the Thai crispy chicken wraps were very tasty. I could not believe that a martini was $18. Ridiculously expensive for a very mushy-textured meal. Typical Thai appetizers were randomly highly spicy. The bar area is fairly close to the restaurant section, which means loud men nearby as well as top 40 hits playing continuously. The lychee martini came out blue and either they wouldn't cop up to making it wrong or their receipe is just gross. Most the food was just okay at best. My hot and sour soup was too thick and the broth wasn't clear as it should be. Lettuce wraps were okay but a lot more onion than usual. Not to prejudge, but The Monkey Bar/Johnny Thai had me suspicious from the moment I walked in the door. I went strictly for a meal, but the establishment is heavily slanted towards the video bar rather than the restaurant. Someone needs to tell the manager that even the most well-prepared meal looks like unappetizing toxic waste when illuminated under black lights. When your plate is delivered, your first thought should not be mental image from a Law & Order SVU crime scene investigation. The waitstaff were friendly and prompt with my $8 Singha bottled beer (yeah, ouch - but this *is* P-Town). Being a single on my visit, I could only eat at the bar - obviously a bar unaccustomed to diners. My meal arrived quickly, but the bar staff haphazardly navigated a sea of empty glasses and bottles to get it to me. Meanwhile, an intoxicated townie screeched in my ear about how good her appletini was the night prior. I slid down the bar one barstool and offered her my seat on the promise that she point her exceptionally large mouth in the opposite direction. It had been at least two years since I had chicken pad thai - a meal I had long ago cherished regularly in my grad-school days - so I was genuinely looking forward to the meal. And at $21, it had the promise of being exceptional. Unfortunately, the flavor didn't live up to the price tag. My pad thai was bland and flavorless, like someone just handed me plate of boiled rice noodles sprinkled with shaved chicken and crumbled peanuts. At least the lemon slice gave it a hint of palatability. Johnny Thai/The Monkey Bar clearly aspires to be a video bar, as evidenced by being one of the few venues I've been to in recent memory that has the video screens synched up with the dance music thumping through the PA (because when I see Beyoncé on the jumbo flat screen, I want to hear that girl belt it!). Don't mind all the reviews complaining about the atmosphere or the prices. First things first, it's Provincetown. Take it from someone who grew up here. You will always find cheaper prices in Boston or any other city. When you are in an isolated place like this, you can't expect to pay the same price as somewhere like a city where you are surrounded by competition and have to drop prices to get people in the door. How much did you pay for parking today? Or that lobster roll for lunch? Secondly, the atmosphere rules. If you want a quiet comfortable place to sit down and eat and act important, go to Sage and have their chef cook you the best food in town. If You want to listen to dance music and take sake shots and be comfortably loud, this is the place. The food is not the best Thai food on the Cape, but for the other options here in town, it's good. The summer fresh rolls are awesome. The curry base is different than expected but great nonetheless. Huge portion. Just don't expect a traditional (Americanized) Thai curry. Drink menu is awesome. Bad, bad, bad! First restaurant review I do in my life but I had to do it!!!! I am a sushi fan eating sushi between 3 to ) times a week. When I am craving for sushi like I was yesterday, I can even eat sushi from the grocery store and think it tastes good even if in reality, this is really not the best sushi. The sushi I had yesterday at this restaurant were the worst I had in my life. I ordered several kinds and none of them were tasting like sushi. The rice was not prepared well and without the ingredients that you are suppose to use. Seriously johnny thai chef, go on the web, it is really easy to find the sushi rice recipe.....the fish was not good and not fresh. I had bad sushi in my life with not so fresh fish which has a bad taste but in this restaurant, I could not even describe the taste, it was so bad. And the price....so so so expensive for what you get. I don't mind paying for expensive sushi, but usually that is because I order a few house specialties and the results is really good but in this case it was expensive a bad. I'm going to get right to the point. This might be the worst Thai food I've ever had. I ordered the Miso soup and the vegetarian drunken noodles. First, the Miso soup tasted like pure MSG and it had fried cubes of tofu in it, not exactly authentic. The drunken noodles were disappointing to say the least. Drunken noodles is a dish that is supposed to burn your face off, that's what I love about it. This had no kick and the noodles were completely limp and over cooked. The only thing good about the dish were the vegetables which seemed very fresh but the crappy sauce overshadowed the veggies. My husband was equally disgusted with his meal. He got some peanut sauce dinner also with vegetables. The peanut sauce was runny and way too sweet. Ugh....the server was really nice the only saving grace. We should have known something was up when we walked in, no one was there eating dinner, everyone was drinking at the bar. Seems like the kind of place where they serve great drinks but don't care about producing good food. I do not recommend this place at all!!! We ended up stopping a few bites in, paying the bill and leaving. We got the food wrapped up because we felt bad about leaving almost untouched food on the table but when we got outside we tossed it. Never reviewed anything in my life. Ever. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! The waitress brought us beer when we never asked for any... We were the only people in the restaurant. Two meals cost $80. The food was TERRIBLE. Worst excuse for Thai food I've ever had. My meal came with cold black beans slimy and straight from the can. The "curry sauce" was melted Mexican cheese.
