I was pleasantly surprised that the low pricing was not reflected in the quality of the food. We had the pork cutlet plate + a side of curry, spicy black garlic ramen and a chashu ajitima bowl. Everything was tasty and service was so friendly and fast. What I liked most: well made miso soup, the minced pork and garlic in the curry, perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs and very resonable pricing. What could have been better: the cabbage dressing was a tad sweeter than I like and location was a little inconvenient (parking was hard to come by) We'll be back for sure!
Have been consistently going here for a bit now, and I still think the food is great for the price! Very affordable menu items that are like more often than not less than $20. Service is always quick and easy. The place itself looks very cozy, and the music is super chill. Will keep coming again!
This is one of the cheapest places to get a meal in all of San Diego- you can even get a bowl of ramen for like $13. It's a fairly small storefront- can seat maybe a dozen small tables and I've never seen more than 2 staff working at once. With that said, the girl working when I ate here last was very friendly and helpful and made sure our waters were filled. The food is good- nothing to write home about compared to all the other options here on convoy but one of the best affordable places to go.
Pros: Service was great, plenty of parking and the food is on the cheaper side in comparison to other ramen shops. The garlic soy fried chicken was pretty good! Cons: mediocre ramen, I got the black garlic ramen but it tasted diluted and lukewarm. Id describe it as the fast food of ramens (casual and perhaps lower quality)

Curry here is so good and huge portions that I came back. I had the chicken cutlet with curry. Then I ordered Gyudonjidon and teriyaki skewers to go. The prices and decent. As for ramen I highly recommend ordering ramen curry. It's not on the menu you have to tell them. I've also had their potato croquettes it's very good it's like a fried mashed potato patty. I highly recommend this for appetizers. The parking is complimentary for 120 minutes.
This review is for the curry rice only. We ordered the chicken cutlet curry rive and the portion and price was very reasonable at $13. The inside wasn't busy on a Saturday afternoon. The food came out pretty fast and had good flavor. The parking lot here is quite big and is complementary for the first two hours which is a huge plus for the Convoy area.
Monsta Ramen is my go to spot for Japanese curry! When you enter, it's open seating and there's plenty of to choose from. The staff are friendly and can answer any questions/make adjustments to your order if needed. I always get the chicken cutlet curry with added spices on the side. The chicken cutlet (chicken katsu) is crispy, moist, and fresh. The curry is seasoned well and has beef in it as well. The quality of the food and service is always consistent! They used to serve Hi-Chew at the end of your meal and I noticed recently they don't do it anymore. If possible, please bring that back :) I'm so glad I found this spot last year!
This cozy restaurant was what we needed on a cold evening for an affordable bowl of ramen! The server was really kind, & helped us answer questions we had about the menu. The food was priced well & comes out very quickly. * Soy Garlic Chicken Karaage - 8/10 (the chicken itself was pretty juicy. we just thought the breading was too soggy. the sauce did have a yummy soy garlic flavor) * Black Garlic Ramen - 7.5/10 (it was good for the price but the soup was very oily. the soft egg was cooked well & delicious, but we wish they didn't just give a half an egg. the chashu was tender & had a great amount of fattiness. we appreciate the addition of the corn & bamboo shoots. the noodles were just your average ramen noodle, & lacking bounciness. overall, great for the price but average for a ramen)
I can appreciate a good ramen bowl that is very well priced in this economy. This spot advocates for low price and good quality and that is exactly what you get. A bowl of ramen is about $13 or so and that's rare to come by nowadays. I got the black garlic ramen and it was delicious. The portion is pretty much equivalent to your average bowl of ramen. The broth was flavorful and you can definitely taste the garlic. The noodles were chewy and the chashu was mostly lean with a little bit of fat. The egg also tastes like it's been steeped in alcohol which is a plus. I wouldn't say it's the best black garlic ramen I've had but for the price I could say it's definitely worth it for what they give you. The service was also very nice. We were told to sit anywhere we'd like and water was given immediately. It's a great spot for anyone wanting a hearty and reasonably priced meal.
Ordered the tonkatsu curry that had a generous amount of curry and rice. The pork cutlet itself was thick and tender with a crispy breading. Frank(If I remember correctly, brother with the wavy hair) was attentive. Would return for lunch.
"Scary good prices & quality" is their tagline and Monsta Ramen lives up to it. I was poking around for good ramen places and there were a lot with $18-$20 bowls, but then when Monsta popped up, it was a revelation. $13 regular with a daily Tonkatsu ramen special of $10?? I was sold. We came to this strip mall early for dinner since we were still on East Coast time and Monsta was pretty empty, but by 6pm, it had filled up. Ordering off the QR code menu was a snap, though our very nice server would have readily taken the order. Just over the half glass frosted partition next to our table was the open kitchen where the ramen artisans were slinging their craft. Dishes are prepared fast & served hot. First, our appetizers of Gyoza (5 for $4) & Kurabata Sausages (3 for $3) hit the table and we dived in. Gyoza were crispy crunchy and the sausages had a good snap. The wife's Black Garlic Ramen came out steaming and the garlic aroma was wafting. She said the chew on the ramen noodles was perfect. The cutlet of my Pork Katsu Curry Rice was crispy panko crusted, tender on the inside and perfectly seasoned. The dish looked like a beach scene with the rice beach on an ocean of curry sauce. The curry was all the more tasty with bits of onion & minced pork added for flavor & texture. All told, the bill was $33 and with tax & tip was $42, an amazing value for some awesome food. They really lived up to their motto and no wonder customers come back again & again. Later, I was checking out their Facebook page and the way they care about preparing their food is amazing!
Honestly, the food was really mid. But if u consider the price then it's not that bad. $12 for curry ramen, $12 for pork chop curry and $12 for pork chop rice plate is hard to find in SD. There's several daily lunch specials. We tried $4 gyozas, they were deep Fried not pan fried. Service was good. The server was helpful and the food was quick.

My favorite item was the chicken karaage. The garlic ramen had a bitter aftertaste and the creamy crab croquettes were mostly cream with a faint hint of crab. Everything else was standard and nothing stood out (takoyaki, sausage, gyoza and potato shrimp) It wasn't too crowded at 5pm on a Saturday so it's great if you want to try a new restaurant and don't want to wait in line! The restaurant is well lit and not too loud. I didn't get a chance to try the curry so I'll have to come back next time. read more
A solid new and very inexpensive option for comforting Japanese food in the area! They definitely know their target audience that frequents the area, so I expect them to be very packed come the start of local universities again. On the night my friends and I came, we were pleasantly surprised by the service and food from start to finish. Service was quick and attentive, with one of the servers nicely explaining to us how to order off the QR code site and the grand opening specials that were going on. The menu was varied, with different ramen, curry, rice bowls, sides and extras offered; various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks were available at reasonable prices. It wasn't noisy or loud with background music, so having conversation with friends wasn't an issue. The food was decent all around. 2 of us ordered the special $10 tonkotsu ramen and $4 gyoza special, and 1 got the pork cutlet curry. It's been a heck of a long time since I've ordered ramen below $10 a bowl. The ramen was generously sized, coming with 3 flavorful fatty pork slices, a mirin-infused soft-boiled egg, and nori piece. There were lots of green onions, wood ear mushrooms and corn for toppings. The pork broth was flavorful and rich, and the perfectly chewy noodles went well with everything else in the bowl. The pork gyoza was crispy, and paired with the sweet soy sauce side was perfect to round off a filling meal. I'd definitely return in the future if I'm in the area to try everything else they have! Bonus kudos to the ordering site for allowing each person in a table to contribute to a group order, the ability to split payment by each person, and each to pay their own portion of the group tab! Came in since we saw the grand opening sign and the ramen was delicious! We got a $10 grand opening special so that was nice. For apps we got, the pickled cucumber I personally did not like, the sour flavors were off. The sausage was good but it was very tiny. Their menu items pork cutlet and curry looked interesting too, will try next time. The sesame balls had red bean and were good hot when they came out. Servers were friendly and you can order and pay using the QR code on the table. read more
The food was pretty good and reasonably priced, cheaper than what you can find at other restaurants. I ordered the chicken katsu curry and my sister had the chicken katsu plate, and we also had the gyoza which we both enjoyed. We came on a Friday night at 5 pm and got seated right away. Our waiter was very friendly and nice and the food came out quick. The inside was clean and modern. I like how we could order and pay online! Overall, I was impressed and would definitely come back here again to try their other dishes! read more
I came around 2pm on a weekday and it was quite empty probably because it's a new establishment. I saw their advertisements on Instagram about their $10 ramen and I wanted to come and try! Tonkotsu Ramen: For the price, I was pleasantly surprised! The broth was rich and flavorful and the noodles were cooked well. There was also a good amount of toppings/meat. To order, I was told by the waitress to scan the QR code and order on the toast website. I like that you can also pay there (for the introverts it allows you to interact with the waiter less). The process was simple and the ramen came out in a decent time. The waitress was also nice and checked up on me! Definitely want to come back and try their curry :) read more
Ever since I saw Monsta Ramen put their sign up, I've been wondering when they would be opening and they're finally open! I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was amazed by their food and service. FOOD: We ordered the Pork Cutlet Curry Rice, Chicken Cultet Curry Rice, and the Potato Shrimp. My boyfriend and I both really enjoyed their curry and think it's better than Coco. Curry was thick and has minced beef and minced vegetables which we really enjoyed. Chicken and pork cutlets were both juicy. Also the prices are super reasonable for the quality and amount. We both thought the portion was filling. SERVICE, WAIT & ATMOSPHERE: Great service - the employees were all super nice and helpful! I'm on crutches right now and when we were walking in, the waitress saw and pulled a chair out for me before we got to our table which I'm super appreciative of. She talked us through the menu and was attentive the whole time. You're able to order directly from them or scan a QR code to order from your phone. Our food came out really quick after we ordered. You can also pay from your phone at the end which is convenient. We went on a Thursday around 12pm and didn't have to wait for a table. There's about a dozen tables, but I'm sure as they ramp up, there will be a wait during peak lunch and dinner hours. saw this spot pop up on my IG feed and figured we'd try it out. Located next to the Olleh kbbq spot on convoy. Variety of options to pick from ramen, curry plates, rice bowls and meat skewers. When you scan the qr code, it shows the specials they have. When we visited, it was $10 tonkatsu ramen special. We opted to try that, the chicken cutlet curry plate, cream crab croquettes and karaage. Tonkatsu ramen was good. Not too salty and had all the fixings of corn, earwood mushrooms, soft boiled egg, nori, chashu pork. The noodles were perfectly cooked as well. Chicken cutlet curry plate was good enough for 2 people. Curry was good and chicken fried to a right crisp. Karaage was just ok. Not the karaage taste we are used to in japan - I'd probably skip that if we were to come back. The crab cream croquettes were decent. Very creamy but could hardly taste the crab. Probably would skip this as well. The host that tended to us was very nice and was able to manage everyone that was there. For those with littles, they do have high chairs. There is only One restroom but does not have a baby changing station. Parking is free and is in a big lot. all in all, the flavors were good and considering that it was grand opening, they had a steady flow of customers. Would i come back? Probably not my first choice but if someone invited me out, i wouldn't mind it. read more

This place is so good I had to order it two days in a row. Their chicken katsu curry was immaculate, hearty and filling. The breading on the katsu was so good, tasty and flaky, I didn't even notice how I ate the whole dish and this is coming from someone who is not a huge fan of curry. Spicy Black garlic ramen was good and tasty for the price. But Takoyaki, god, I feel like they are the best Takoyaki in the whole San Diego and I've tried a lot of places where they serve them. Please order it and try, it doesn't get better than that. Octopus inside is a good enough size, not tiny as in the other places. I highly recommend this spot! Very tasty food and you can feel it was made with love, for some reason. read more

Loved my first visit and can't wait to go back. They have a lunch special during the weekdays where they take about $2 off certain bowls. They have a paper menu but the full menu / specials are online using the QR code. Tried the Black Garlic Ramen for $11 instead of the usual $13. A lot of flavor! So good! Noodles are good texture. Hannah was super friendly during my whole visit. She explained how everything worked clearly and checked up on me frequently. Can't wait for next time! read more

The food is priced really good for the portions, and the quality is also pretty good! The service is fast, but it's mostly ordering online through a QR code. I got the pork katsu plate and the pork was very crispy. The salad had a little too much dressing on it for my liking, but everything else was pretty good! read more
Super affordable menu and service is great. Love trying ramen places and a friend referred me here. You sit and scan the QR code menu to place your order. The staff brings your meal and they check up on us often. For two people we each ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees and it was all under $50. It can be pricey eating out and I'm glad too see there saw affordable options. read more
Another day, another new restaurant! We came here around lunchtime on a Monday and it wasn't too busy. They had a lunch special to which we ordered a Kurobuta Sausage Curry ($10), Shrimp Spring Roll Curry ($10), and the Gyoza ($4.50). The sausage curry tasted awesome! The curry was creamy and umami, the saltiness of the sausage was a great addition. The shrimp spring roll has the same delicious curry but instead of sausage, it was a deep fried shrimp spring roll. The roll was pretty flakey and oily, I have never had something like it before. Regardless, the roll was really good as well! However, the Gyoza was kind of mid. Nothing out of the ordinary. As a broke college student, this place is really affordable (especially during lunch), 10/10 would come here again!! read more
We did a pickup order and the lady who handed us our food was really friendly. Enjoyed the curry although we thought the portions were not super huge (for comparison- I'd say smaller than cocoichibanya) but was satisfying. Came here on a Sunday for lunch. Not that many people. Service was friendly. Got the potato shrimp, spicy ramen, and chicken katsu curry. The curry was pretty good as was the spicy ramen. The potato shrimp was very greasy and not that good, I would say skip it. Was a bit hot in the restaurant even though they have portable air conditioning units. I did find it strange that the waitress was pouring extra water from bussing tables into the air conditioning units. read more

Monsta is a good restaurant for quick and easy meal. For the price this place is bang for your buck! The lunch specials are around $10 which is better than anything you can find on Convoy Street! It's a small store and kind of basic ambiance but it does the job. Definitely a value play. Food: Entree: Kurobata Pork Sausage Curry This was good, the curry is standard nothing too crazy. It comes with some pickled vegetable on the side for another depth of flavor which was much appreciated! The Kurobata pork sausage was very good, juicy, salty, and savory. It's a cute small cozy spot. I came here for the prices and I was pleasantly surprised. For the price of a ramen, it is good quality and the amount of toppings aren't skimped which I can appreciate. On to the service, I am not a fan of the scan and order system because usually I get crappy service but Angelica is very pleasant. She explained everything to us and told us where the specials were on the menu and she even checked up on us. She was working the front by herself and she is a hard worker that has attention to detail. I love when I get good customer service, sorry if I worried you Angelica when I asked for your name. Food was great for the price!! I will definitely come here with my family again. It's the perfect portion and we were able to order appetizers too. We ordered Diablo (it was good but very very spicy), Spicy Ramen (perfect spice for my son), Tonkotsu? Ramen (perfect for my non spicy food son) and I got myself the Spicy black garlic ramen (my favorite) very delish and I recommend dark clothing when eating their spicy ramen. read more

Going into San Diego for the first time, my friends and I were super hungry and stopped by Monsta X, with a cute egg wallpaper and the inviting smell of delicious, fresh, curry! Imagine my surprise when I saw how affordable the options were, such as the $8 curry that was super flavorful and poured generously with their pork curry broth. I really like the ambience and service of this place, and ordering is super simple through a waitress or an online kiosk! Would definitely come here after a long road trip back to San Diego again just for their curry :) read more

One of my favorite places to go for curry or ramen! The service is always great, you're greeted when you enter and asked if you've been before. They explain everything very well and even have ordering from you phone available for the less socially inclined as well as amazing deals and prices when ordering from your phone at your table! The environment is very clean and has a nice vibe to it the table has napkins and chopsticks there for you already as well as their own sauces and other stuff you might add to your food. Really amazing food for a great price absolutely love coming here and showing off my food to my friends. read more

Came back again recently and decided to try their Tonkotsu Ramen since it was the special they had going on at the time, and was pretty disappointed in this one. The broth tasted super watered down and didn't have any fatty pork flavor/richness at all. Not sure if it was just an off day but it was enough to turn me off that I probably wouldn't ever order this here again. Would still come back for the Black Garlic Ramen and their curry dishes though! read more

We walked in on a Friday for an early dinner and we were seated immediately (right after it got busy). It's a small location, the later you go on a weekend you can expect a slight wait time. Customer service was amazing, the level of attentiveness and knowledge of the menu made our dinner even more pleasant. There's two options for how to order: you can opt for the traditional way and order through the waitress or you can order by scanning a QR code (this second option offers a few more items and most of the menu is offered at a cheaper price). Everything we ordered tasted great and the food came out at a good pace. They have a house spicy sauce that's on every table, try adding this to everything as it enhances the flavor. We ordered more than enough food for 2 and we didn't pay more than $75 (including soft and alcoholic drinks). We have been back a handful of times since these pictures were taking. Pretty good parking lot but there's a lot of other places in the plaza so it can get hard at times to find parking! We were seated really quickly and the ordering process was very easy. You are able to order through the phone and pay for either yourself or for the whole table! They have deals on the bottom of the page as well :) I got the spicy black garlic ramen! We saw this new spot, peeped the menu from the window and decided to check it out! Casual ambience and easy to order menu from a QR code. The server was nice enough to let us know that he can also take our orders if we didn't want to use the QR code. He also mentioned their grand opening special deals. We ordered the $10 deal - Black garlic ramen, $4 gyoza, $3 Kurobuta sausages. In addition, we ordered the regular menu items like the pork cutlet plate and chicken Japanese curry. Everything was A+ Overall a great value! I am sure once the restaurant gets busier, the prices will increase. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very courteous and prompt with service. Ramen was pretty good for a great price. Broth wasn't super rich, more mild but they have a homemade spicy sauce that you could add. Chashu was also very flavorful. Egg was average. $10 for Tonkotsu if you go to the online menu and order. Cream cheese wontons were only $3. $1 BEER. Honestly a hidden gem. Only one person inside on a Saturday night. Staff was friendly. Parking always challenging in convoy but we were able to find a spot in the lot out front. read more

We had a delightful weekend lunch here! The service was excellent - super attentive and friendly. The restaurant is also bright and clean. We liked the mural and art style. The menu is focused. Our appetizers were delicious and same goes for the curry + ramen. The grand opening specials are very reasonably priced ($5 and under for appetizers, $10 entrees). read more
