We love montecellos on Babcock. We stopped to order pizza before a Steelers game. We were seated right away and our order was out in less than 20 minutes.. I love their pizza, especially their barbecue chicken. They have tons of happy hour specials too. Prices are comparable to other pizza places in the area, but there is ample places to sit here and enjoy eating pizza.

Monte Cello's is a local Italian restaurant chain that has several locations in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. This location in Ross Township is my favorite. Their menu lists appetizers such as zucchini planks and pepperoni rolls, soups, salads, pizzas, burgers, wraps, calzones, pastas, and entrees such as lasagna and salmon. My husband and I have been customers here many times over the years--for dining inside the restaurant as well as for catering for a family event and for a homeless shelter. The hostesses, waitresses, and cooks have always provided courteous service. Here are my reviews for foods that we ate for dining in and for takeout: Garlic breadsticks - 5 stars - My husband described these garlic breadsticks as "Oh, yeah!" good. We nearly always order them. Shrimp scampi - 4 stars - The noodles and shrimp were cooked well. I enjoyed the flavors, but the dish contained slightly too much oil and garlic. Chicken parmesan - 5 stars - This chicken parmesan is our favorite menu item, and we most often order it. The pieces of chicken were large and juicy. The pasta noodles on the side were cooked well. Strawberry-shrimp-pecan salad - 5 stars - This salad was a large size and contained very fresh ingredients. I savored every bite. Pizza - 4.5 stars - For toppings we chose pepperoni and mushrooms on one half and mushrooms and green peppers on the other half. I though that this pizza was loaded with toppings and tasty very good. Cannoli - 5 stars - Two cannolis contained sweet ricotta and chocolate. I usually do not like cannolis, but I did enjoy these ones. Here is my review for some catered foods: For a family get-together at my house, I called Monte Cello's over the phone to order catered food. I ordered a half tray of garden salad with dressing, a half tray of penne with marinara sauce, a half tray of lasagna, a half tray of chicken parmesan, a half tray of chicken marsala, a half tray of roast beef, a small tray of green beans amandine, and a small tray of roasted potatoes. These "half" and "small" trays were actually very generously sized. After 16 people ate their meals, we still had lots of the food leftover to take home! The total price for all of this food was a very reasonable price. As for the taste of the foods, my favorite foods were the penne, chicken parmesan, chicken marsala, and roasted potatoes. My husband really liked the roast beef. My husband's cousin really liked the lasagna.

I was really in the mood for a chicken parm hero. I checked Yelp for local reviews and Monte Cello's had some amazing reviews. I ordered a chicken parm hero they call it a hoagie. I did do a take out order. The staff were nice and friendly and the food came out pretty quick. I got home and I was very disappointed. The hero had no red sauce at all nothing notta????????? The hero had chicken and mozzarella cheese and that is it.????? What the heck I have never in my life had a chicken parm without some sort of red sauce. I was extremely disappointed and could not believe. I do not know if that is standard but I will never do a take out from here again. The sandwich was ok and nothing special. I m not sure how to rate as service was good and food came out fairly quick , but no sauce is a big thing to me????

Popular Italian restaurant in the North Hills. Definitely recommend making a reservation or putting your name on the waitlist, otherwise you could be waiting quite some time with how many people love it here. Our waitlist estimate on Saturday night for 6 people was about 30mins, which was pretty accurate when we finally got seated at a table. Our waitress was excellent in getting our drink orders immediately and giving us time to review the menu without feeling rushed on a busy night. I ordered the chicken parm and loved it! It had a thick tender white chicken breast coated in crispy Italian breadcrumbs, topped with a layer of gooey mozzarella cheese. On the side was a small side of spaghetti with marinara sauce. Spaghetti was nice to mix with a piece of the chicken, but a bit lacking in a dynamic flavor by itself. My entree also came with a salad and garlic bread sticks. The salad was fresh and included a few tomatoes and cucumbers, along with a bunch of croutons and side of dressing. For the amount of food you get, it's very filling and worth the $20 entree cost for a tasty hearty meal.

A great place for families with lots of seating and great service. The fried zucchini is excellent. Classic Italian restaurant feel inside--not too dark. I love coming here with my family on a Saturday night! The menu is large with options for everyone, including gluten free pasta and pizza dough.

Classic family friendly spot in Ross! I've been a few times and have tried lots of the menu so far- from appetizers to pizza to entrees to dessert. Their classic cheese pizza is almost nostalgic with how good it is. And I love to end the meal with their warm cookie tin with ice cream. YUM! It's the perfect place to get some simple Italian food and bring the whole family. Servers are always nice and food comes out quickly.

Visited Monte Cellos the other night for an app and dessert and had a nice experience! The interior is very spacious, even more so than might appear from the outside. Service is very friendly and swift. We tried the artichoke dip with pizza bread, as well as the baked cookie dough dessert (like a "pizzookie" from a chain restaurant). The dip was a little bland, mostly tasted like cream cheese with pieces of artichoke, but the pizza bread was delicious in itself! The dessert was massive and tasty, I really enjoyed the cookie. I will definitely be back to try a full meal soon!

Monticello does not disappoint! Take out pizza. It's hot and delicious. Staff was super nice, pizza came out on time! The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated.

For my brothers birthday he chose to have dinner at his favorite place, Monte Cello's. As always it was a great visit. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday night and waited about 20 minutes for a table of 4, not bad at all. This time I ordered the shrimp scampi and it was terrific! Loves the garlic sauce and the angel hair noodles. Highly recommend!

We waited about an hour for our food which was kind of frustrating but they were absolutely slammed. Our server even brought us a second plate of bread and oil to make up for it (which we appreciated)! The food was worth the wait! Loved heirloom pasta and gnocchi w/ meatballs were delicious as well!! We also got tiramisu for dessert (not pictured) yeah, no. The mascarpone was dense and I believe they used cake instead of the ladyfingers. It genuinely pretty bad and I wouldn't get it again which sucked because tiramisu is my go to dessert (also pretty pricey for the portion we got). At that said, I will be back to try other dishes!

For some reason, I had a feeling that something was amiss regarding this dining experience. I made…read morethe reservation on RESY and we were set. We got to the restaurant, approached the podium, I expressed the reservation and was told that they did not have one for me. We were asked to sit in the penalty box until they were able to find a table. We were fortunate and were seated. Our server was great. Very personable, helpful with the menu, made recommendations, etc. We ordered cocktails, which were very good. We then placed our order for dinner. My spouse had the beans and greens which were found to be quite good. I had the house salad which was also very good. For an entree, Bo ordered CACIO E PEPE and I ordered, BUCATINI all'AMATRICIANA. This is where we started to descend into food limbo. The cacio e pepe was flavorless with as little pepper as possible. So few, in fact that you could accurately count them. The pasta was overcooked and mushy. My entree was another disappointment. In the description, it states: "Bucatini Pasta, Guanciale, San Marzano Tomatoes, Pecorino Romano" Now, can any of you, off the top of your heads, tell me what Guanciale is? Guanciale just happens to be, an Italian cured meat made from pork jowl or cheek. Its name comes from guancia, the Italian word for cheek. It is rubbed with salt, black pepper, and spices, then aged for several weeks, creating a rich meat with a high fat content that is prized for flavoring classic pasta sauces. In my entree they were small cubes, meat-like, and one side of each cube was burnt to a crips, solid black and real crunchy. It gave the whole dish a burnt taste. Not the best. For dessert, Bo ordered the Banana Sundae Cheesecake. I bet you thought it tasted like bananas. Nope. It tasted like cheesecake. I passed on dessert. My choice was determined by the quality of my entry. Atmosphere. There are some restaurants, these days, where you have to raise your voice to talk to one another. Here we had to literally scream but still not be able to hear one another. It's all too common now to forego a suspended tile ceiling and carpet on the floor, which absorbs the sound. This was absolutely the loudest dining establishment I was ever in. Looking around, it seemed that most people have bought into the notion that this is as good as it gets when it comes to dining ambiance. Look, I'm old school and this just didn't cut it for us. There certainly are a lot who love the restaurant and grade it accordingly. I'm just not one of them. Bon appetit!

It is a very cozy Italian restaurant that's serving homemade Italian food like your Nonna would make for you. We showed up on a Tuesday night and it was packed. It was around six or 6:30 in the evening and when we first got there, we were told it would be about a 20 minute wait before a two top was available. But the host came back and asked if we didn't mind sitting by the kitchen they could see us right away. We chose to sit by the kitchen, which honestly was probably the best option because it was actually a little bit quieter because there was a very large party that was celebrating a birthday and they had live music going on so it was hard to hear when you were in the main dining space but back by the kitchen it's a little bit quieter and we could actually hear ourselves talk. My husband got the penne with meatballs and the penny was nicely cooked with a beautiful tomato Bass sauce and the meatballs or some of the best Italian meatball he's ever had. His only complaint was that there were only two in the order and he wished there would've been three. I got the spinach and ricotta, stuffed ravioli, and by far one of the best raviolis I've ever had. The ravioli are large so there's only about five in a dish but they're packed fully and the flavoring and seasoning is absolutely spectacular. It's got a beautiful sauce like accompanies it and the chew you can definitely tell it is handmade pasta/ravioli. Our server, Emma was absolutely spectacular and was so kind. We truly enjoyed our experience here and would highly recommend anybody to check it out if you're in the area. But we also do recommend make your reservations ahead of time. Very soft, and served with quite high quality olive oil. The bottle has both olive oil and balsamic! The soup of the day was quite good as well. It was some sort of beef broth, I think may a beef and bean soup. Chickpeas in there as well. Next time, I might try the salad. The salad they have as a side is so good, an amazing portion and seems so fresh and tasty. The mains were excellent. Very good pasta with clam sauce. Lots of clam meat and a flavorful oil based sauce. My friend had some red penne with chicken and enjoyed that as well. Great portions, pretty fair prices. Finally, great drinks as well. Very memorable cherry cola that I believe the company is owned by the owner's son. Real cane sugar, very good. The cappuccino was great as well. Definitely come here!

I've ordered gnocchi many times and never once had this experience at a restaurant. I DID have a similar experience when I tried making it at home, hence why I like to instead order it out and expect it to be cooked correctly. The "house made marinara" was okay, but a little bland and watery so it wasn't enough to save the dish for me. Perhaps it was just an off night or off dish, so given the other high ratings I wouldn't necessarily write this place off, but I was certainly expecting more for a place like this. My wife had a small fish sandwich, my oldest son had the baked ziti, my youngest son had chicken parm, and I had gnocchi with meat sauce. Portions were large and tasty. Three of us had cups of wedding soup. Everyone was stuffed and enjoyed their meal. I would highly recommend and will not have a 20 year gap in visits to Big Jim's (in the run).

A friend told us how good Big Jim's was and we are so glad we decided to go try it…read more We were warmly greeted when we entered. The waitress was also very nice and accommodating the entire time. A man was also very helpful and brought us things we may need. I really enjoyed the super meaty and delicious meatballs on my meatball hoagie. The Marinara was really good. My husband's Italian and absolutely loved the veal cutlet sandwich. It was huge, crunchy and tasty. It made him nostalgic for the veal cutlets his grandmother used to make. The Fresh-cut Fries were good but weren't seasoned well enough. I also wish they were crunchier. We saw a man order the Stromboli and it was ginormous but looked delicious. He was a big guy and only ate about 25% of it. Got my mom a corned beef sandwich and she said it one of the best she had ever had. We're Irish and she loves them. There are lots of great things on the menu and will be back to try other things.
