Used to be much better, not sure what happened to the pizza quality. Pastas look good, but they're expensive. Chicken rolls are good value, but on the small side. Overall I'd say mediocre pizza thats WAY too expensive. Their specialty slices start at like 4 bucks, whats up with that? They only get away with it because its Brooklyn heights and people who find themselves cracing a quick slice or two on montague can be too lazy to walk down to court (only reason I ever eat here). It's ok. The pizza is flat, nothing special. I feel this place does as well as it does simply because of the location and convenience on Montague St. If it were off on a side street it wouldn't fly. There are better options in the area, you just have to know of them. They do server a good meal, the staff are friendly, but it's just lacking anything special. WAY too overpriced & overrated! I'd rather have classic good Brooklyn pizza at Franks Pizza on Flatbush & Quentin....or anywhere in Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights for that matter...and for HALF the friggen price of stuff here! Also, I asked them to put fresh tomato and garlic on a white slice and they very condescendingly looked at me like I was crazy. Then they proceeded to tell me they were going to charge me .60 cents for each thing I add. Very nickel and dime ish...their attitude turned me off to the whole establishment. I wouldn't of even had to ask in the first place if they had a decent Margharita or Grandma slice in the display... Also, I'm currently writing this review while waiting outside for over 10 friggen minutes already for someone to scoop me Italian ice!!! My wife doesn't do well with white flour, so we're always looking for a pizza place that makes whole wheat pies. We were very happy when we moved to the Heights and discovered Monty's. Their whole wheat pizza is good enough that I'm happy to share with my wife and don't miss the real stuff. That being said, Monty's has TERRIBLE DELIVERY. When we order whole wheat we know to say several times that we're allergic to the white wheat, and repeat it again before hanging up. Nevertheless, we get white flour pies around 40% of the time, and have to send them back. It also takes anywhere between 40-50 minutes for delivery, which is strange given that we live a five minute walk away. If you order from Monty's, just be sure to confirm your order several times, and call well before you're hungry. read more

Love this place. Average plain slice but so many delicious options. I LOVE their grandma slices. They are a little thinner than normal grandma slices so they are crispy and delicious. I really liked this place. My salad was decently priced and massive. And the people were really friendly and trying to help me decide on the menu. They have a ton of choices. I also appreciate that they offer gluten free pizza at a decent price. The only thing that threw me off a little was their ordering/payment system. It seems like it's not sure whether it's a restaurant or fast food, and this makes things a little strange (I know this can be done, just seems like some bugs need to get worked out). I walked in one morning close to 11am to buy a water and check out the menu. Behind the counter was a guy literally changing his shirt where the food is served and where the ovens live. Not kidding, not making this up. Clearly he'd just opened and thought it was an ideal time and location to take his shirt off?? I love the food at Monty Q's. This review is not about their food. The price is high, but the food is good. Their healthy choices are diversified and yummy! This review is about an experience I had and their response to the issue. Recently, I have been having issues with my bank assuming all of my purchases are fraud- therefore declining my purchase. The woman that was ringing me up called me back and politely whispered that my card was declined. As I was looking for another form of payment, a young man with blue eyes, dark hair, Italian young man handling the pizzas, ber loudly and inappropriately immediately telling a story about chasing a man down the street for trying to "steal food" because he didn't have money. The woman ringing me up started blushing while another worker gave a puzzled look. The woman who was ringing me up apologized. This is a great lesson for the administration of a business. The cashier was kind, respectful and aware that a situation like that could be embarrassing for someone who doesn't realize they don't have money. His way was judgmental and unprofessional. you do not treat people who pay for service as such. I am a Hispanic professional who is extremly aware of microagressions is this community, but again, this was inapporoiate. read more

If you want brick oven pizza in Brooklyn Heights without leaving the neighborhood, this is the best option you'll get. Their pizza can be a bit dry, and the mozzarella is a bit salty. But these are negatives, which are relatively minor. They do a pretty good job with the pizzas, and I have been happy with their consistency and reasonably good quality. I've probably gotten pizza from there about thirty or forty times since moving to the neighborhood. Their salads can be hit or miss. I never order salads for delivery, because sometimes you'll go in and the ingredients will look very wilted and not fresh at all. Other times, it looks good. Many people enjoy the pasta station, which is made-to-order pasta dishes quickly. I've only ordered the pasta once, and I'd probably describe it as "ok". The key downside to this place is the service. They are often extremely confused about orders, what pizzas are for what person, etc. I usually pickup rather than get delivery, and it can be difficult trying to get the cashier to find your pizza and let you pick up. Delivery, strangely, is much more efficient and faster. Eating in here is a casual, local pizza-parlor experience. I'm not a fan of that environment, but if it's what you want, then this is probably the best place for it in the neighborhood. read more

Decent food at a good price. Just ordered the All American (BBQ Chicken pizza) and found the fresh mozzarella a great addition to the pie. There wasn't much chicken on the pizza but I didn't mind as the fresh mozzarella balanced the bbq sauce well. I also ordered the bruschetta. It wasn't what I was hoping it would be (does anyone remember the bruschetta from Bertucci's waay back in the day when they used fresh zucchini and tomato?) but the bread was still crunchy and the veggies tasted ok. The salad was the biggest let down as the lettuce seemed limp and a bit old. If the lettuce and veggies were a big colder and crisper then the Greek would have been a good choice. The pizza here is inconsistent but it can be well above average, especially the eponymous Monty Pie. The problem here, as others note, is the counter staff, which consistently finds new and exciting ways to screw up orders or make customers' lives difficult. Emailed receipts for online orders are not considered contracts at MontyQ's. They wanted to charge $9 more for the pizza we ordered than what the price said online and what the email said in what I owed. They called to tell me I would be charged more and I said this was the agreed price. The manager said no it was just incorrect online. Then change the price online. Honor what you've already sold. I said a $24 pizza was not worth it when I had originally agreed to a $15 pizza. They would not budge so I said cancel the order and they said that's fine. Food in the past has been decent, but service is not good. If this is how management treats customers, imagine the standards they hold in the food preparation! read more

I go here everyday for all sorts of different food and they have a huge variety of stuff. My favorite is vegetable pizza and salads. The owner and his wife r the nicest people around and the people who work there r very accommodating toward what u need. I get rake out often to bring home for dinner and my family loves it. If u don't see something u like just ask and it will be made in there wonderful kitchen in a quick process. The restaurant has a very friendly feeling and comfortable surrounding. I have been patronizing Monty's for many years and I have always had a good experience, but recently this has changed. Twice I ordered a salad and both times I received poor quality salads, the chicken was dry and over cooked, the vegetables were very few and not crisp. Tonight I ordered a whole pizza, I was not frustrated by the long wait because I realize that we are living in a very different time but the pizza was not only cold, it was burnt, this is unacceptable. There is a very nice young lady who seems to be managing the restaurant now, she is very understanding and does try to compensate you when you have a complaint but it's too little, too late because you want to eat good food when you order it, a percentage off your next order does not make the food taste any better. Perhaps Monty's is a little overwhelmed now considering our current situation and should close their doors until they can get back to serving quality, good tasting food again. read more

I go to Monty's a lot as it's right by my school, while they are pricy for their food, I understood that it's BK Heights. However, this incident has happened so many times where I can't just let it go by anymore. Everytime I go there, I have to constantly be aware of what employees are doing with my order-- quality and price wise! One time, I customized salad and added an egg. The lady turned around and cut the egg without me seeing and turned back around and only put egg white in my salad. There was another employee who saw WhAt she was doing and shook his head to stop her but she looked at him as if she was doing something that she was supposed to be doing. It was suspicious so I asked her if she put the yolk as well and she defensively said "yeah." Next incident, the guy charged me $16.50 for a small (6.00-.50) customized salad (egg, blue cheese, corn, cranberries). I also bought a Snapple ($2-2.50). I asked for a recipe and it wasn't itemized so I told him "oh I usually pay $13-13.50 everytime I come here." He then get super frustrated and defensive and asked questions like "is this customized? A Caesar salad?" Dude, I gave you my paper that has what I put in my salad and the prices are next to it-- what do you mean you don't know what I ordered? You have a POS system that has the prices automatically on it as well! So he noticed he charged me for a large salad and gave me back $1.75 in cash but that's still not the right amount of difference? Listen, I work in customer service for food too, and I for sure don't talk with customers in a way where they can't even speak up about price differentiations. I don't know what's up with their business lately-- but they should check out their employees better and manage their customer service. Their pasta dishes are hit or miss. For example, I have ordered the fettucine alfredo a couple of times from them, and the most recent time it actually tasted like nothing. I could not get any flavor from the fettucine or the sauce. Other pasta dishes I've tried from them can be swimming in oil. Once in a while I'll really enjoy the pasta. Their pizzas are fine. Average tasting pizza in a city known for good pizza. Their "customer service" is surly at best, and the delivery timliness and accuracy is TERRIBLE. They promise a delivery time, and then they don't come anywhere near. Sometimes, the pizza comes jammed up against the side fo the cardboard container as if it were carried vertically. Tonight, I called to complain (they had already taken twice as long as they were supposed to), and they thought I was a different customer who they had unceremoniously placed on hold who was clearly complaining about his late order as well. They refused to apologize but claimed that the delivery was "on the way". It never arrived. I just ordered their chicken parmesan entree. Not only did it take 1 hour to come and I live 5 minutes from the restaurant, it was DISGUSTING!! COLD, the sauce was watered down-nasty, tangy flavor, awful!! The pasta was COLD too!! I don't know what everyone's gripe is with Monty's but I enjoy their food very much and go here with my friends on a regular basis. Yes, to some extent their prices are a little unethical especially with choosing and creating the pasta to your desires. Twenty plus dollars for a penne pasta with shrimp and chicken and veggies, mushrooms, etc? I asked why the high price for such a simple meal and they said because the shrimp being added counts as another pasta meal in addition to getting the original meal. It was tasty and so are their tiramisu cups. Their pizza are alright I guess just needs a little more seasoning to it, but the one thing that bothers me the most is the prices of the soda cups. I have never seen a restaurant charge that much for a 16oz cup of soda that I could get at the corner store or newsstand for a 1.50-1.75. Would I recommend this restaurant to others? Yes, I would but, I would recommend eating here if you're with a group of friends and don't mind either splitting the check or spending a good amount of money separately. read more

Terrible customer service. I realized my pizza slice was missing from my order when I got home. I called them to ask for it and if someone could deliver and I was told I needed to be put on hold so they can discuss this. No apology and after several on and off hold cycles they said that I would have to wait for a delivery that was headed near me or I could come get it. They then argued with me and said that I left while the slice was in the oven and I could come back and get it. Meanwhile when I was there the server handed the pizza to me I told him it was to go and he placed it in a bag. I repeated this and they clearly didn't want to hear it and finally agreed to send someone to deliver, with attitude and hung up on me. Got the pizza and it tasted like cardboard. Marinara sauce is salty and seems likes its from a can. Will never return. read more
