The food is fresh because there is so much turnover. In other words, they moving product almost as quickly as they making them so with pizza, you don't get that mozzarella cheese that looks like congealed body fat because it's been sitting there for two days, like some other places (but never at the $1 pizza places in city - I've seen pizza being slid direct from the oven right into a patrons throat!). Pizza is good. Good crust, sauce tasty (def not Prego or Ragu), and good portion of mozzarella. I had some of the sandwiches as well - good ratio of meat:vegetable, and I got a dipping sauce for it. One food complaint would be fountain drinks are not particularly in the favor of customers - they pack so much ice in the cup it's borderline ridiculous. i think there's enough space for 8 drops of my mandatory diet coke. When i complained about too much ice, i think they flicked one off the top of the cup. Not this is why this place sucks...customer service. I have to say, the cashiers that work up front are quite curt, but worse is they appear to be the most miserable people on earth. The mushroom wasn't anything special but the sausage was great! Sometimes you don't know what to expect when you order sausage on you pizza so here's what you get: small sausage crumbles with tasty fennel seeds spread all over the slice. They have free delivery! I got a slice of cheese and a slice of pepperoni, both of which were very cheesy with a crisp and tasty crust. Add a beer and it was only $10 for dinner, not bad! Anyways, that's the type of bread that Monty Q's uses for their Grandma Style slice and let me tell you it is thin, airy, has notes of EVOO, and sports just the right amount of crisp. This pizza does not have too much sauce nor too much cheese which is my gripe with 99% of all pizza on Earth. The pizza sauce is quite flavorful and never found under the mozzarella. The sauce and the cheese are never "doubled up," is what I am trying to convey and I very much like it that way. No, Monty Q's is not in a small/quintessential brick building in say, The West Village for example, but greatness sometimes hides where you wouldn't immediately expect it. Monty Q's is my go to Italian take out place in Downtown Brooklyn. It is a good walk from my residence and you know what you are going to get when you go to Monty Q's. Is it good? It can be. Is it great? It can be. Is it awful? Nope! One time my food was served VERY cold I just advised the people behind the counter and the corrected that problem without trouble. As I get older I have become a creature of habit and Monty Q's is habit forming. The pizza guy did not put the slices in the oven as he told me that just came out of the oven. I knew the pizza was cold, just by looking at it. I asked for the guy to throw back in the oven. The owner/manager rang me up. Medium fountain drink and 2 slices (Buffalo and Sicilian). He rang me up for 19 dollars and change. I started laughing and he apologized as he knew it was wrong. I asked the manager to close the doors since its so energy inefficient. He was rude to me and said he cares about cutomers not the environment. I have since heard from the owner and manager. Have been a customer for years!! Came with my nephew because he wanted a pizza, the man working in the pizza section hands me two little slices of pepperoni pizza that looked like the slices from dominos. I asked the cashier why the slices were so small & she ask the guy & told him to give me 2 regular sized slices, he said that it was all they had... I don't understand how you can have employees that see that the product that they are serving is not the quality or amounts of what it usually is & still try & sell it. So confused by all these positive reviews. My first experience at Monty's, a little over a week ago, was so atrocious (soupy pasta sauce, half-assed customer service, foul tasting portobello mushrooms on my PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM sandwich), I vowed I would never ever go back, even if I were starving, which would be pointless anyway, because it took so long to get my food in the first place. Then I saw nothing but four- and five-star reviews on Yelp, and I (mistakenly) doubted myself. And I was craving a quick pizza - Fascati's is closed temporarily, and the line at Grimaldi's is reliably Way Too Long. So, Monty's. Big mistake. But at least it was a life-affirming experience: I was right the first time. Monty's only redeeming quality is its proximity to my house, and even that counts for nothing, because it takes as long to get service at Monty's as it would to travel a little further to get food that doesn't taste like it came from the supermarket's freezer section and was thawed out five minutes before it was handed to me. I ordered a small pizza, and the guy I spoke with said delivery would take ten minutes. Instead, it took more than 20 minutes, and when my "brick oven" pizza arrived (who cares where you make your pizzas if they're greasy and don't taste good), there were four miniature slices (the equivalent of two regular slices) that cost $8.40 altogether. THEN, the delivery guy LIED to me about the cost of the pizza and screwed me out of an extra dollar for his tip, then rode away on his bike before I could argue. Seriously. My goodness their customer service is horrible. Yesterday was my first, and most likely last time coming here. We came here for lunch, and decided to opt for some pasta. After placing our orders and confirming our choices with the chef my bf and I decided to step outside for a few minutes while our meals were being made. I should've paid attention to the first red flag.. The cook was snapping at, and belittling a first time customer who was unsure of how to place her order. Upon our return, we observed a new angry customer who was annoyed with the chef because he was so impolite. I noticed the chef had completed the girl's order, my boyfriend's order but not mine. After blaming the customer for confusing him(weird) he proceeded to make mine. While we waited, the cashier managed to tick off another poor customer who was unhappy with her drink. The woman asked to speak to the manager, but he wasn't much help either. The cashier even snapped at us when we asked her to move part of our order away from the counter so that people wouldnt be reaching over, and talking over the food while they paid. Amazing how they managed to piss off five customers in 5 minutes! The pasta was so bland we had to constantly add salt and other seasonings that were placed for our convenience on the table. Definitely makes my all time top 10 for pizza (of course, I still haven't been to Di Fara). I love brick oven and they have a bunch of pies featuring fresh mozzarella which are delicious. I really like the idea of selecting the ingredients for a pasta dish that is made right in front of me, but it's worth it to pay a dollar or two extra to have pasta that wasn't cooked hours ago. The heros are good, but not the best I've had. Really, I just recommend the pizza, it's definitely the best in the area (avoid that place on Henry Street unless you like grease with a side of crust and cheese). The pizza guys seem to be pretty nice, but are busy and preoccupied. The girls they have had working the cash register come off as bitchy, but I'd rather deal with mean people for a second and leave with good pizza. Seems to also function as a lesbian hangout which is totally cool with me, but may not be so cool with your ultra conservative friends, take them somewhere else (but don't forget to lecture them on how everyone should have equal rights). read more

Grimaldi's down the street is supposed to be one of the best, but I'm pretty sure they don't deliver, so Monty's it was and boy was it good! I would definitely order from them again. For a street that is so highly trafficked by hungry pedestrians, Montague Street is surprisingly devoid of good pizza options. Monty Q's, with its small army of branded delivery bikes parked out front, would have you believe that it is THE place to satisfy your pizza cravings, but I'd respectfully beg to differ. I work just around the corner from Monty's so I've watched as it has undergone a recent facelift, resulting in a noticeable sprucing up of the backboard menus and some rearrangement of the counters. Though they mainly pitch themselves as a pizzeria, the first thing you see when you walk in is a full salad bar, with the requisite array of greens, fix-ins, and dressings. Walk a little further along the counter (still no pizza) and you've reached the custom-order pasta section. Placing your order is a cinch since they provide pads of order sheets upon which you can pencil in your perfect pasta, choosing everything from the noodle to the sauce. Note that all add-ins are $2 each, which I personally think is highway robbery for a handful of mushrooms and broccoli, but such is the life of a diner in the city. Quibbles with pricing aside, my penne with add-ins and marinara smelled and looked divine after plating, so much so that my fiancé promptly dumped his sad slice of pizza (more on that soon) to fork himself nearly half of my meal. The actual pasta was obviously pre-cooked, reheated, and therefore overcooked, but this ain't no real eye-talian pasta joint. For a whopping $11 and change, I thought it was a decent portion and a fine enough meal, if a little expensive. Now for the pizza. I'd already demurred by virtue of my vegan diet (dairy-free diners beware - no cheeseless options for you here) but any dummy with eyes would see that my fiancé's buffalo chicken slice was dripping with mediocrity. The copious amounts of cheese had already become unappetizingly yellow and gummy mere minutes after its retrieval from the oven and the crust was thick, chewy, and bready, which is a big no-no for any non-grandma slice. I want to believe that this was the exception rather than the rule to the pizzas here at Monty Q's, especially since we saw a decent flow of customers come through as we dined in (another plus - plenty of seating), but that particular slice committed some serious pizza crimes that renders us reluctant to try another next time. The pizza selection is sparse for any place that is serious about its pizzeria status, but all of the regular favorites are covered. Service is polite, fast, and friendly enough to make this a solid middle-of-the road option for one's pizza and pasta fix. read more

Just moved to Brooklyn Heights, and after a long day of carrying boxes I decided to stop into Monty's. Earlier in the day I had some slices of pie from the favorite Midtown location as a going way present to myself, so at Monty's I decided to skip the pizza and grab a salad. I used the little slips of paper they give you to check off what you want, a large Chicken Casear for myself and a small greek salad for my girlfriend. I got the boxes of salad, paid, and walked home. To my surprise, when I open my salad at home it was completely void of chicken. Seriously, its lettuce, dressing, and chicken, how hard can that be. A few bites in my girlfriend also notices they forgot the feta cheese on her greek salad. The mistakes couldn't have been a miscommunication because we had used their form to check off what we wanted. And to top it all off the two salad come out to just over $17. Monty's is definitely overpriced, and disappointing. Even worse I just found out Monty's was shut down just two weeks ago for a 50 point NYC Department of Health violation. Major fan. They have a repeat customer right here. Ordered delivery from here with relatively low expectations. Delivery was fast, on time, hot, and most important of all FREE! If you area expecting super thin new york style slices with next to no flavor then you may want to look elseware at your local $1 slice joint. But if you are a fan of slightly thicker slices that are lightly baked and on the doughy side this place is your jam. The sauce alone is incredible and was perhaps my favorite part of the pie. It is super garlicy and while not being over salted generally very flavorful but well balanced. They do not short change you on cheese. Bummer. I just started working in Brooklyn Heights and was in need of pizza today. I yelped and it looked like this was the only one around. There were a bunch of different slice options. I went safe with the tomato... It was weak! Kinda soggy, not much flavor. The layout of the place is not conducive to lunch rush either. This is my reward after walking the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan. It was raining that day. My buddy and I ran into these Hasidic Jewish kids which they asked us if we're Jewish haha; that made my day. The pizza slices were thin, lean, and tasty. So a bit of a confession here. After walking around Manhattan all day, I wanted some pizza closer to our hotel in Brooklyn. We couldn't find a place quickly using the Yelp app on my iPhone that would be good for my son (sorry, but he's not going to go for the olive oil pizza or goat cheese, most parents will likely agree with me). Anyway, we were using the app and came across a Five Guys and a Chipolte on the same street. We figured we'd go to Five Guys, but the Five Guys was on the 2nd floor and after a day of walking around Manhattan, the last thing we wanted to do was carry a stroller up a staircase since there was no ramp or elevator. So we wanted to go to Chipolte (hoping it was on the first floor and we can just stroll in), but we ran into Monty Q's. We thought we'd give it a shot. We got lucky. Super lucky. The pizza was good, the staff was super friendly and prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend if you're in the area. Excellent for parents as well. read more

So I was very surprised at myself that I haven't tried this place earlier considering I'm in the area quite often. This will be a quick review based on the chicken and broccoli Stromboli I ordered. The Stromboli was on point, decent size (wish it was bigger) but had a god taste to it and the side sauce accommodated it well. The Stromboli wasn't too doughy so it had a lite crisp texture which probably made it so good. One major issue.....WHY CANT I EVER GET A PIZZA PLACE TO SERVE A HOT STROMBOLI or Chicken roll??? I always get my meal still cold in the middle and I didn't have enough time to send it back. A hot Stromboli would have scored the 5th star. I've been going to Monty's since I was in high school, and although the people I went with were usually there for pizza, I loved Monty's pasta dishes. Particularly their fettuccine alfredo with breaded chicken. I could eat that all day! Then they closed down for a while some years back for health regulation related things. When they came back, we were weary of them, but the restaurant was still close and convenient. The pasta still tasted amazing! However, much more recently, I believe they changed management or something, because the quality of the pasta has gone steadily downhill. It's to the point where I won't even eat there anymore because I am consistently disappointed every time I order from Monty's anymore. They have never overcharged me and the delivery is always quick. Their signature salad ( mixed greens with blue cheese, craisins and cranberry vinegarette) recieves compliments from my clients all the time. They do an amazing job with the fruit platters as well. I ordered the penne alla vodka. When I received the order there were pieces of ground meat in it. I am a vegetarian and I put a clear note NO MEAT. This is an OK lunch place -- on a street that has pretty mediocre lunch and dinner options (including several mediocre Asian restaurants with questionable meat $5 lunch specials). Honestly, if you want to do lunch on Montague, you're better off going to Chipotle, Five Guys, or getting some food at the hot bar over at Garden of Eden. I mean, the place gets packed but it's just really meh. When I go, I usually just get the bolognese, which is pretty average for lunch. At least it's made fresh, but the tomato sauce doesnt WOW me. The pizza is also meh. Better off taking the 5 minute walk over to Fascati if you want pizza. There are just TOO many pizza options at Monty Q's...and trust me, that's bad. Because you will have pizzas that have been sitting out there for hours...and sorry, that sucks. I really don't get why more slice places just don't make cheese pizza and then put the toppings on there when people ask them. It's not hard.
