SBL (Sexy Bearded Lover) wanted us to try something different. He picked out the Moon Valley Cafe for us to have brunch at. Walking into this place makes you feel like you're in a mom and pop joint. It had that family owned feel to it. Not sure that's the case, but thats how we both felt. We were immediately seated and our server took our drink order. The menu had a bunch of new things on it along with the long list of things they currently offered. I'm always a sucker for a club sandwich so that's what I ordered. However the Mac and cheese burger was super tempting. Someone near us ordered a burger and it looked mouth watering legit as the server passed by with it. Our noses were just hanging in the air trying to get another whiff. SBL orderd the French dip. The French dip was good SBL said. It wasn't too salty, or too fancy, just a regular yummy meat sandwich. My club on the other hand was stupid tasty. Honestly it was probably one of the best club sandwiches I've had in a very long time. The meat was fat, the lettuce was so crispy it freaked me out; everything in between that white bread was perfect. I couldn't have asked for better lunch... oh and the fries... the fries were so loooooong and crispy! Also something we totally appreciated was that the food came to us HOT. I don't know why it's so hard to get hot food to your table anymore. It's never as hot as it should be. By the time the plate hits the table and you get situated and ready for your first bite it's ends up being this kinda hot/luke warm situation. I want food so hot it will open my asthmatic airway! Not spicy, but hot. Overall it was a good morning and a good find. I think it was slightly pricey, but I blamed it on the location and the size of the place. read more

We decided to stop off and check out this local eatery due to the positive reviews on Yelp. I have to concur with the reviews as my food was absolutely delicious. The steak was tender, flavorful and I loved it. The food was very good and I highly recommend this local gem. I live in Tempe and this place is located in North Phoenix about 1 hour away from me but I will still definitely return. The service was prompt and professional. Staff was super friendly and nice. Pretty bummed with my last experience here. I have ordered a few times from moon valley and it's been decent. Today they got my order so wrong. I ordered eggs Ben with hashbrowns once delivered it was egg ben on a 1/2 piece of white toast instead of a biscuit and I was given fries instead of hashbrowns. I'm so glad I tried this cute little place!! It's the perfect place to take anyone. The staff all are very friendly and helpful!! They have a nice dog friendly patio (unfortunately not smoke free but that's the only draw back). The food was absolutely amazing, one of the best hamburgers I've had in AZ!! I have driven by this place a 100 time but tonight I decided to try it out. It it always good to have a nice cafe nearby when you don't want to cook. It was not to busy as they have just started dinner on Thursday Friday and Saturday. Our server was great very friendly and spent the time to answer all of our questions. I was expecting just average food but there were some stand outs first the mashed potatoes and gravy were great and my girlfriend had the kids meal grilled cheese and fries ( it was by her choice I am not that cheap) and she was very satisfied the grilled cheese was gooey and the bread was crispy without being greasy. I also had the liver which was cooked just right. Now the desserts I had cherry pie alamode and she had coconut cream pie both were outstanding and I would come back to just have the dessert. The food was amazing, the service excellent and the price affordable. I had the eggs Benedict with the home fries. The Benedict was perfectly executed and the home fries - OH MY!!! When the fries were first described, I thought it would be the usual run of the mill potatoes sautéed with frozen onion and peppers. I WAS SO WRONG. Friendly neighborhood breakfast place. Free wifi, enthusiastic staff, good food. They are getting a liquor license soon, too. I like their omelettes (corned beef! what!?), and I had the house burger for lunch one day. It's not gourmet, but I love mushrooms and swiss so it was just right for me. it's a very busy place, but the girls work hard. Don't be ignorant, since you can see the kitchen window and you can see how fast everyone moves. It's never been an unreasonable wait. Prices can't be beat. A lot of good and bad going on here at breakfast time. The good? Friendly servers. Coffee refilled promptly. Classic décor. Eat at the counter if you like. Regulars evident. I really like the overall vibe. I even like the advertisements imbedded in the table tops. The bad? The restaurant was not busy and I cannot imagine why it took so long to prepare a simple breakfast platter on this day. I didn't time it, but it took so long I had time to read my entire newspaper. Twice. The pancakes then looked great, but they were tough and even difficult to cut. Not good. An issue of consistency. A request for crisp bacon was not honored, a recurring pet peeve of mine I'll admit, but interesting given another recent reviewer complained about burned bacon. Consistency issues again. It's also a bit on the expensive side for a traditional breakfast spot, perhaps just because the specials don't suit my needs. I'll be back, searching for reasons to add a star to this review. I love the place and the people and fully expected to write a four or five star review. I'm thinking of trying a meal other than breakfast, perhaps an all you can eat spaghetti night with the five and six year olds in my life. I also noted an emphasis on beer sales and even live entertainment, so maybe they're just trying to do too many things at this point in time to truly excel at breakfast. Sadly we went this weekend and this place has changed. My husband found out that Pecan Rolls are not homemade now and my grill cheese was not even melted. The fries tasted like Fish? So disappointed. The service was also lacking since the waitress kept forgetting things because she had so many tables. I think Covid has ruined so many restaurants and sadly Moon Valley is on that list. read more

This was a great place for breakfast. We were visiting my Mom and always go to Cracker Barrel but my sister suggested we try this place. It is in a little mall, easy to find. Excellent service, with a smile. Coffee was never empty. I had chicken fried steak and it was delicious. My husband had his favorite, corn beef hash with eggs and he loved it. My mother had one of their skillets and took home enough for another meal. I will go back for lunch next time because it looks like they have reasonable bloody mary's and mimosas too!. This place would have gotten a 5 star but my husband reminded me they did not offer gluten free bread for my Mom. I understand it is a hard thing to keep in your larder but she cant eat gluten. We had a great experience at the Moon Valley cafe. We came in, they pointed us to our seats and we got some menus pretty quick. The servers were really nice and friendly, and took our order once we got a good look at the menu. They came by 10 minutes after we ordered and told us that the food hadn't been put in, but they told us it'd be out soon and they gave us a very generous discount for the mistake. This place is in our neighborhood, and we have been coming here for years. It has been an average place to get quick "diner food". Today's experience......not so good. It's Labor Day, and the manager/owner has either tremendously underestimated the number of customers they would be serving, and hence did not have enough staff scheduled, or maybe a couple people called in sick. I was meeting my husband for breakfast after the gym, and I arrived first. The place was packed, and staff was running like crazy. They told me to sit anywhere, and the only open table I could find was in a corner, behind the door, of the back room. No one acknowledged me. I was sitting there with no water, no menu, no set-up, etc. Staffers were walking by me like I wasn't there. Finally, I got up and walked into the main room. One of the staff said, "I'll be right with you." She sent in a nice server named Rachel. It took forever to get anything, because the place was so busy and short-staffed. Rachel did her best, but she had a large-party table as well as other smaller ones. We kept noticing several tables that came in after us we already being served, eating, paying and leaving. Rachel told us that the printer in the kitchen had malfunctioned and our order never printed out. That's why people who arrived after us were being served before us. It was an hour, from the time that I walked in, before our food arrived. Rachel was very apologetic about the printer and said she was going to go ask the owner what he could do for us. The entire meal should have been comp'd. The ancient, stingy owner-guy, apparently with zero understanding of the importance of retaining repeat customers, gave us our drinks for free (coffee was horrendous, by the way -- the equivalent of tasteless, brown, dishwater) and 20% off our food. It was a hour and a half before we finally got out of there. Paid cash instead of credit because we were tired of waiting. Not a good way to spend our time or money on a holiday morning. Everytime I walk into this business, I feel like It's 1950 and I'm in the south. I surely don't feel welcomed at all, I had a take out order early in the morning one day didn't receive help until I had to personally ask, while the guy that came in after me was seated, brought something drink, and had his order taken. There was only one lady working while I was there who made sure all the old white men were taken care, not even giving me the time of day as she kept walking past me, not even acknowledging me as I stand there waiting about 8 minutes. Another time I went in there for a take out order as well, it felt as though I was being ignored by a couple of younger girls. I was being walked past, took several minutes for anyone to greet and when they did it wasn't too warm of a welcome like the other customers.
