SOFT opening this week, grand opening on Monday, Feb 12th, 2024! I'm so excited to see Moongoat opening up shop right near the UCI campus, at University Research Park. I used to spend quite some time at their Garden Grove location when waiting out traffic on the 22 - happy to see they are much closer and took over the spot previously occupied by Starbucks (pre-pandemic), and very briefly, Steam Coffee (post-pandemic, but only for a few months). Hours are SOOO MUCH better than Steam Coffee, which took up this same suite space for just a few months. They are open Mon-Fri from 6am to 6pm, and 7am to 2pm on the weekends. They have all my favorites from the Garden Grove location here including their Garden Goat focaccia, banana bread, smoked salmon bagel, and avocado toast - among other treats. I wished they carried quiche tho - something that Lost Bean Coffee has a one up on them on. Parking is super easy - there's 15 dedicated spaces upfront. This really will be a much needed boon to the nearby research and college community. We've been needing a decent cafe that has later hours ever since Specialty's closed a year or so before the pandemic hit. No Wi-Fi in the main café makes no sense. Here's an idea there is a radical new technology where you could give someone a password that is good for 60 minutes in the main café. A very odd irritating policy they often do not have wireless in the main café, but they invite you to walk across the asphalt parking lot into this cavernous, depressing dark hot big room with tables and you can use the Internet there. Most people are not looking to sit there all day and use the Internet, but they just want to use it while they're enjoying their coffee. When my girlfriend asked them to explain this policy, the employees seem to have memorized this dissertation length diatribe. When we were there, the person in line in front of us was also complaining about this so it's not just us. To add insult to injury the wireless service is for some reason very weak signal inside their main café and they wonder why nobody is sitting across the street and there are like 50 people in the main café. Low or no AC If you come on a hot day wear shorts sandals and a tank top because it can be like an oven inside. I dropped by MoonGoat on my way back home to take a meeting. Parking was fairly simple, seating is ample, and it all seems awesome! Finding seating indoors can be tough if it's busy BUT there is always seating outside. Seating is also comfortable and reliable, and the internal ambiance matches to what it shows on other Yelp reviews. The folks who work there are so kind, and convinced me that their cortado was not going to disappoint (I feel like it's always a 50/50 if a cortado at a new place will have good depth of flavor, and really taste roasted to perfection) and they were right! I could taste the notes of the coffee and the milk ratio was perfect, the folks here know their coffee. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because I was having trouble connecting to the Wifi (they said to use the UCI one) and my meeting was going in and out a little since it was online. I think this awesome coffee spot could improve by maybe investing in their own wifi source? I would definitely come back to try some new drinks, especially an iced latte! read more

I'm so happy that they opened up this MoonGoat location in Irvine! The parking situation alone makes this location all the much more better than the one in Costa Mesa. I got an iced churro latte and found it to be absolutely delicious--the flavor is not too sweet and has just the right amount of cinnamon. The baristas are very friendly here and are generally quick to get your order ready. The place has a lot of tables available to work inside and out. However, since it is right next to UCI, the inside seating gets taken up very quickly. That said, the WiFi is provided for free by the business complex that this location is in, and it works just fine outside where there is ample seating available. read more

Moongoat definitely a quality spot to visit, probably the best quality coffee near UCI, the only criticism I can give this location are issues I've had with ordering ahead and the lack of clarity in the interface as well as the ordering kiosk which was often glitchy in my experience. The ambiance is definitely chill to work or study in, but it can be quite busy at times which can also lead to slower times for drinks at times. Still would visit for a good quality coffee when I have time to order in. read more

I got the seasonal hojichai latte here (chai + hojicha latte). I found the hojicha (roasted matcha) to be the prominent flavor, and I didn't really taste the chai but still a pretty good drink. When we came around 11am on a Saturday, there was only high-top seating inside but thankfully there's plenty of seating outside. Wifi is Irvine Company - unprotected but extends to the dog-friendly outdoor area. Services is super friendly! We'll be back to try more drinks. Plenty of parking in the lot too. read more

I'm glad I got to check out MoonGoat cause it did not disappoint! I went to get some work done around 2pm on a Tuesday. The inside was pretty packed but they have plenty of outdoor seating and it was a beautiful day so I loved it! I got a strawberry matcha which was delicious, one of the best matcha I've had in the OC. I would give it the 5 stars but it almost cost me $9 for one drink! It is a hefty price. I can usually get a coffee and pastry at another cafe for that price! Again, very good and would come back. But know it is pricey. read more

I bought a matcha latte and my friend got the caramel macchiato. There was something off about the flavor of the macchiato and as for the matcha, it tasted like the one I make at home with just sugar, matcha powder, and milk. Cute convenient location right on UCI's research campus. Lots of indoor & outdoor seating, so it's a great place to work/study or catch up with a friend. I ordered the seasonal Figgy Pudding latte, which was just okay. It was a good level of sweetness, but I didn't pick up on any fig flavor. It was pricey, $8.25 for a hot 16oz regular milk, so I had higher hopes. Overall a good spot but would order different next time! read more

I have been to the MoonGoat in Costa Mesa before and found it just okay, but this visit to the UC Irvine Research park location was much better than what I remember. I came to MoonGoat on a Friday in the late morning after I had my optometrist appointment at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute across the street. The facility is clean, well, lit and not too noisy (although you can definitely tell that it was once a Starbucks store). There is also ample seating which is perfect due to its proximity to the UC Irvine Campus. Nonetheless the baristas were super friendly and were quick to take my order once I was ready. It took around 4 minutes from ordering to when my drink was ready. I ordered a medium iced churro latte and it was perfect- not too sweet, yet still flavorful. What I ordered: The Italiano ($11.50): My favorite item on the menu! This sandwich is amazing and so so delicious. The peppers compliment the sandwich SO WELL. 12oz Matcha Latte ($5): Where else can you get a matcha latte for $5? Solid deal, and it originally comes unsweetened. Not bad, but was a bit watered down. Pizza Pocket ($9): I liked the toasted focaccia bread a lot. Convenient location for UCI students. Looks like a popular study spot with comfy indoor and outdoor seating. There are some designated parking spots in front, but on busier days you may need to park a little farther. I've been here multiple times and I order the same exact thing every time: matcha latte with house-made vanilla and organic koatji milk. Overall, it's good matcha and one of my top choices in the area. My one complaint is consistency. I had one bad experience ordering a large because it tasted like straight up milk. I couldn't taste any matcha or vanilla. I have been too scared to order a large since. I don't know if it was just a fluke or the matcha to milk ratio is off for the large. read more

I've been to their other locations, so when I heard that they opened at UCI, I wanted to give it a try. The inside is somewhat small but there's a good amount of seating indoors & outdoors. I actually prefer the outdoor seating as it's quiet & more open. Unlike their Costa Mesa/Newport location, parking is not at all an issue. Instead of a churro latte or iced vanilla latte, I opted for an iced masala chai latte with cold foam. I saw someone get it and it looked bomb. It actually tasted sooo good and what I think the churro latte should taste like! Although I had a better experience here, I probably wouldn't come back unless a friend wanted to, simply due to their prices & ok drinks. read more

This is a great place to be! MoonGoat has great staff who are always kind and can give great recommendations. They prepare drinks pretty quickly and you never have to wait too long to get your food items either. Their gluten free items are decent (try the blueberry strawberry lemon loaf)! Their gluten free banana bread is dry but still has a nice flavor. I always order the Jabroni (it's the same as a Gibraltar at Blue Bottle). Definitely recommend getting that if you like cortados. Finally, the interior is a great place to sit and work. The noise level isn't too loud and the number of plugs varies. If there is one thing I would change, it would be to increase the amount of outlets available. This place has a Starbucks vibe because I think it used to be one (I gathered this info on PokemonGo as there is a Starbucks Pokestop here). CONS: below average amount of outlets and slow WiFi 10/10 recommend coming here! read more

Drinks taste really good. Between the inside and the outside patio there are plenty of seats. It does get crowded though, so you just need to time it right. Super easy to park, its like a Disneyland sized parking lot. You can order on an IPad or order at the counter. Ordering at the counter is just like doing it on an Ipad though, not much personality with the staff. The warm smiles and personalities are definitely lacking. I got breakfast from there for the first time and it was a bit pricey but the eggs Benedict on their biscuits was the best I've had.
