This was one of the ice cream places I wanted to visit and it's now one of my favorites! It's right in the village so you can get your ice cream and walk around the cute town or canal. This ice cream tastes amazing. Way too many places around where you get a cold, waxy gob on your cone, which, eyes closed, you could not identify the flavor. Not here though, holy crap. I was blown away. I got the pina colada, which had a big, bold hit of rum up front, wow! Then the key lime, which tasted better than most key lime pies I've had, and I've had a lot. Big hunks of graham cracker crust throughout. Sampled some other flavors from the family, the oatmeal was fantastic, other more normal flavors were tasty and had great texture. So glad we gave this place a try. My husband had the strawberry ice cream and I had to go with the birthday cake flavor. It was lovely cake batter ice cream with sprinkles and frosting mixed in. We also got a few chocolate truffles. They were delightful, and yes a but pricey, but treat yo self! They are worth it! It was nice to sit outside and enjoy our treats by the canal as well. I have been here a few times because I wanted to give it another try but every time I am slightly disappointed. It is never very busy yet somehow it is the slowest place to get ice cream. Staff never really seems knowledgeable on their products,like not even knowing their ice cream flavors they have in the cases. And on top of that this place is very pricey. There is very little seating inside and also no bathroom displayed to use which is hard when walking on the canal or bringing kids. I think the Moonlight Creamery would be a great name for the Moonlite Bunnyranch in Nevada. Did anyone ever consider that? Or is it just my warped dirty mind that would come up with such a con-coc-tion. Hmm. I drove all the way out here for some gelato and all I got was this lousy ice cream. This dessert was not at all what we had in mind... we tried a couple of different flavours. Overpriced, forgettable. Not my thing at all. I'm a big fan of ice cream, sorbet and gelato (when it's made right, like the Italians do), but this one was given straight to the garbage disposal, aka my travelling companion, after I had a few slurps. However I think it's great when local business owners follow their dream and I wish them all the luck in the world in making people happy with their products, and give them a solid 3 and an A for effort. read more

Before you go in you can pick the flavor you want from what they available that day, however i like to actually look at the flavors with the names to decide. When you walk in you notice a lot of things for sale other than ice cream like gift type things, chocolate truffles (which are adorably creative!), wine! (who knew?!), floats, and other drinks. if you go on a busy day the line will of course be long, but it goes quick and helps give you time to pick what you want out of the extensive choices. Their flavors and names are unique with different sizes of cups and cones. i just wanted a kiddy size cause i didn't want much at the time, but the portion size can be very generous. i asked how many scoops of the smaller one, they said one... but gave me three! haha fine with me! all flavors looks delicious and i couldn't decide so they told me i could mix and match, how cool! They also have a decent amount of seating outside and inside, but if its a nice day why not go walk the canal and go right to the bridge. read more

Wow! This place has everything you would want to find in an ice cream parlor and beyond! The interior is nicely decorated and it is super clean which is quite hard to maintain in a store where children are a huge part of the customers. Apart from some of the basic flavors, they have some exotic flavors as well and are very willing to let you taste as much as you want. I had the chocolate, coffee, mimosa sorbet and salted caramel! They were all so creamy and smooth! I also saw the gentleman behind the counter doing the final decorations of a cake for a customer and it looked really good too. I would love to come back when it is a little bit warmer outside so I can go for a stroll in the village or along the canal. An absolutely adorable place for ice cream. read more

My new favorite ice cream place in Rochester. I love everything about this place. Great location. Parking has never been an issue for me. Good seating area inside or better yet take your ice cream and walk along the canal or sit on a bench outside. The people here are always helpful and patient encouraging samples and never a hint of annoyance. The ice cream itself is delicious. Every flavor is very very distinct and paints a lucid picture on the pallete of your tongue. If you get the strawberry you really taste the strawberry. If you get the coconut you will taste the coconut. Oh so good. Portions are generous too. Multiple unique flavors many of which rotate and new ones are added regularly. 90% are good depending on what flavors rock your boat. Get your ice cream here and go take a walk by the canal while you enjoy it. You will come back for some more. read more

The flavor list is smallish (maybe 10-15 choices) but comprehensive...Even the "basics" chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry are superb...well balanced and creamy and quality ingredients...anything but dull. In fact, I think the strawberry is my fav, or maybe the coffee, which is also excellent . There are some flavors which you won't see anywhere else as well. As an aside, my ever hyper 10 year old was being his usual "inquisitive" self, and the proprietor actually invited him and his little sister behind the counter to see what was there, and I thought that was a really sweet gesture. Hands down our favorite Fairport staple. We are born and raised Wisconsinites, so we take our ice cream very seriously. We're sure to take all of our house guests, no matter the weather. You should definitely try the seasonal flavors, and then wander around the Canal while you enjoy it. Another local place I'l ashamed I haven't visited before. I had such a nice and educational visit. The two gentleman servicing my kept my mouth full of deliciousness. They were slow being a snowy afternoon, and I just kept saying give me more (pints) that they kept feeding me tastes. They cycle through over 200 flavors. Such a cute location by the water. Simple parking in the garage across the street. Love that they make their own ice cream - so many different flavors such as spicy chocolate (with chilis) and butter beer (which is really like caramel/cream soda). Very reasonably priced. They also have hot chocolate and espresso drinks. I really want to try espresso over ice cream! I had the birthday cake flavor and chocolate peanut butter. The cake flavor was so tasty and creamy but the peanut butter cup was grainy and really not a good texture - I am not sure where that went wrong. My husband got the mint chocolate which was a strong peppermint flavor I didn't care for but my husband loved - he also got the spicy chocolate which he is now craving often. Definitely overall tasty ice cream and perfect place to visit this summer. They let you try samples, which I recommend. read more

My son, daughter and I went to Moonlight Creamery on Friday July 23. They closed at 10pm. We got there at 9:25. My daughter ordered a milkshake and the girl said sure. She turned around and then turned back to us and said sorry they aren't making them any more tonight. That was not very good customer service. We purposely got there with enough time before closing. She just didn't want to make it. I used to work at Perkins and we would tell people the milkshake machine was broken all the time if no one felt like making one. We ended up not getting anything. I have never been there before but my daughter said they were so good which is why we went. Hopefully next time we go, we'll get someone that wants to serve us. If the machine truly was broken or they just don't make them past a certain hour that should have been posted or she could have said that. read more

What fun flavors! Butterbeer ice cream!? Yes. Is it as good as butter beer at Harry Potter world? Not exactly but it's pretty good. And Oatmeal ice cream!? That is the bombbbbbb. This place is a great place to get ice cream and hang out with your friends or family. They have children's birthday parties for the kids too, if you don't like kids though, you don't want to go at this time. Tons of good ice cream and even other fun chocolates you can buy. I am only giving this review for two reason: 1. The manager Mikey is absolutely the best I have never in my life seen anyone that works as hard as he does 2. The ice cream is fantastic tons of flavors and all of them are fresh and wonderful. I have to point out that we have been in several times while it's been slammed. What does that mean, simple a line out the door literally. The amazing part is that the owner simply stands and watches everyone work but never lends a hand. I mean who does this customers are waiting for 20 minutes and nothing. I come from a service industry where owners roll up their sleeves and get dirty. Watching the situation Friday night was appalling half and hour wait and the owner was standing around watching. We met up with family for a quick dessert before heading home. The shop and surrounding area is very quaint and scenic with the canal right outside the shop. The shop itself is beautifully appointed and clean. The staff were not overly enthusiastic to help us right away (we were the only customers in the shop at the time) but were not overtly rude. There is a lot to take in, in terms of their menu as their handcrafted ice cream flavors are intricate. We settled on the traditional chocolate and vanilla hard ice cream. Both flavors were very good, superior to other ice cream shops. Next time I'll check out one of their more unique selections. The price point is higher than you may expect. From what I can tell, they don't have a price list posted on their website. It's about $6 for a regular sized ice cream. Portion sizes are smaller than other places. I was satisfied with our visit and would return/recommend stopping bye for a sweet treat if you're in the area. read more

We tried this place based on great reviews back in June. The ice cream was rich, unusual flavors and we ordered 3 small ice creams and 2 milkshakes. $40 later we were slightly satisfied. I thought we'd never go back. However, unexpectedly we hit this place again last night. 4 mini (kiddie) ice creams for $19. Crazy! One of the four kiddies was finished. The kids hated their cake batter, I could not finish my strawberry sorbet. It was tasty at first but so many seeds and too milky. Lacked the smoothness of a sorbet. My kids love ice cream and I've never seen them throw it away! We were the only customers there on an 80 degree beautiful night and the whole village was busy. read more

Move over Pittsford Dairy! Moonlight Creamery is the place for ice cream for me. In my opinion, the ice cream here is a lot more flavorful. For instance, the pistachio ice cream here tasted like popping pistachio nuts right into your mouth, and the wild blueberry flavor tasted like blueberries straight off the vine. Both were really rich and creamy. I really recommend getting the waffle cone. I love that they let you get two flavors even in the smallest cone. Definitely more on the pricey side though. All were delicious, but some were surprisingly fantastic...I mean, oatmeal ice cream? Ice cream with fiber? How could this possibly rival the ooey gooey flavors I always go for? But it did. The ice cream is so rich and creamy and loaded with huge chunks of chocolate and cookie dough. I cranked the wheel to pull a Bond-like maneuver in my tiny British car. In my rear view mirror, I could see a gang of tiny softball players, growing exponentially, like that scene from The Warriors. I put my car in park and put up the windows as fast as I could. It was 8:00pm on a balmy Tuesday night. The adrenaline-juiced dwarfs, still amped from their victory got closer and closer as I fumbled with my keys to lock my car door. I could see from the front window that the line was short, and I knew the horde of teenie boppers racing to the door would be the only things standing between me and my creamy night cap. They could not win. Determined not to drown in a sea of dirty, turbocharged girls, I grabbed my girlfriend's hand and sprinted inside. A couple of the more athletic ones slipped in before me, but I managed to box them out, Rodman-style, and force my way to the front of the queue. As I peered into the glass freezers, filled with tasty treats (including my beloved Moonstruck Chocolates, homemade cookies, and pastries), a short redhead attempted to cut in front me. "Not so fast, honey," I said before hip-checking her into the cooler. "You'll get your turn." There were so many tempting flavors that I found it difficult to make a decision. "Hurry up, mister!" said the redhead. I hip-checked her again. Pressured by the mass of prepubescent girls gathering behind me, I impulsively ordered a regular hard ice cream in a peanut/chocolate waffle cone. One scoop was a flavor called "To Sow My Wild Oats," which consisted of brown sugar ice cream and oats (an attempt to make premium ice cream appear healthy). Delicious. For my second scoop, I settled for one of the several chocolate varieties offered by Moonlight (Chocolate Lover's Dream, I think). I was thinking about getting the tropical-sounding ice cream with coconut and pineapple (and maybe mango?), or the Key Lime seasonal flavor, but I thought they would both taste weird with my brown sugar-based first scoop. My selection was good and not overly decadent, with a bittersweet chocolate base and little morsels of crunchy chocolate nubs. The outside seating area had a nice view of the canal, and although it was 83 degrees outside, we wolfed down our cones before they had the opportunity to drip on our shirts. This place reminded me of my childhood baseball days, when my little league coach would celebrate by bringing us to the local ice cream parlor and letting us order whatever we wanted. Only here, the ice cream was a lot better and I was the narcissistic high schooler (29-year old man) jumping in front of the little kids to get his cone. Awesome. read more

While I love their ice cream, avoid their peach ice cream. Heidi, peach does not freeze and it shouldn't come in chunks in ice cream. Had some Sunday evening and it was the first time in a few years that I've been disappoined here. There's a reason Ben & Jerry's and others make their peach ice cream creamy. Try changing the formulation and I'll try it again. But having said that, there is nothing else here that I have had that I have not liked so you'll always get 5 stars. The staff is always friendly and accomodating and the cones are a good size for a good price as compared to Abbott's where the overplayed custard is getting smaller by the day. I'm always a fan of the old standbys like cookies and cream but their cake ice cream, which looks like an absolute mess but tastes oh so delicious, is probably my favorite. I like the fact they're open later hours so you can enjoy a walk along the canal or in downtown Fairport. And it's good to see that they continue to build business and serve such a great product in a cute location. So much preferable to the cheaper ice cream at Papa Jack's in Victor or Abbott's.
