We were referred to Moonstone by a friend. We were celebrating our daughters 25th birthday and she loves Sushi. Well, not only was the Sushi excellent, but the whole evening was made special by all the rest of the dishes being delicious. The Waiter (Eddie), Manager (Alex), and I assume the owner (Peter) were all extremely funny and attentive. They made the birthday celebration one to remember. In place of the sorely-missed Harvest Buffet, a spot responsible for many happy childhood memories filled with endless Snow Crab legs, sushi, and a self-serve ice cream machine, resides the much-anticipated new Moonstone. We were greeted warmly upon entrance and seated at a prime location with great views of the elegant restaurant. It was nearly 9pm but there were still a few diners finishing up their meals. While the menu was gorgeous, I was immediately disappointed by it's content and the striking resemblance to other-Great-Neck Chinese restaurant "Elaine's". From the way the menu was organized, to the actual choices, and even the text! There were certainly some repeats (aside from sushi, which Elaine's does an excellent job with). I was really hoping for a fresh new take on Chinese food without the usual options. ...guess I shouldn't have let the decor heighten my expectations I asked our waiter (named Charlie according to our receipt) for some suggestions, this being a new restaurant. But Charlie was not very helpful, giving us an unsure suggestion of their steamed dumplings. Me: Mm.. maybe next time Charlie: Tomorrow? ha ha Me: ... ha! I remember thinking Yes! a funny waiter! But man was that joke not as funny the 2nd and 3rd time.. Later, Charlie brings over our first dish, the Crispy Duck. But as he put the plate down at the table, he suddenly interrupted our conversations and gave a surprising "That's all you guys ordered?!" We looked at each other confused.. what was this guy talking about? Did he mess up our order? Duck skewers - a little mixed bag.. two skewers with pieces of duck breast and lychee. duck was cooked well, but a little on the fatty side. unlikely to reorder Giant Prawns - meh, for the price, i've had much better. It was a little mushy and didn't have as much flavor as I was hoping for. As im writing this, im realizing more and more that this restaurant doesn't deserve the four stars I am giving it, but I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt as it is still a new restaurant (and is sensitive to initial reviews). I do believe the owner is the same as Harvest Buffet, but under different management. Hopefully the next time I visit, the staff will be more attentive to our needs rather than their comedic pursuits. We actually had a lady help us clear the table and refill our waters at the very end, she was fantastic, very sweet and genuine. In all honestly, the menu was just.. uninspiring. Was looking for an easy relaxed meal with families and my little ones. Didn't realize Harvest buffet closed (over a year since our last visit) until we turned into the parking lot. Figured we might as well try since it was late and the kids are hungry. Setting was trendy, not suited for little kids. I was ready to try some asian fusion, perhaps something different, trendy dishes... Well, menu was small and very much "home styled" traditional Chinese. Yes they are more authentic Chinese cooking but the taste was ok, really nothing spectacular or even special. Dishes did not match the setting. Staff was friendly but overly attentive. Asked our server about how a dish was prepared, she gave an vague answer, very obvious she had no clue about their menu. Asked her to recommend a dish and of course she picked the lobster, which we did not order. It was Friday night yet the place was at least half empty. A few families walked in with small kids (mostly asian), obviously looking for Harvest and ended up doing what we did. Won't be going back again. Side note, probably being picky now...we were charged for tea and rice. I went to the bathroom and got walked in on. There was a little note next to the lock explaining how to lock it, which I read and thought had followed. Obviously not the first person to have been walked in on with their pants down. Chicken with garlic sauce was tender, sliced thin, white meat chicken.Beef with broccoli contained fork tender beef and perfectly cooked broccoli. Just the right amount of sauce in each dish. Nice selection of dumplings. We enjoyed the pan seared shrimp and chive dumplings. Definitely want to go back again and try more dishes. A winner! read more

Horrible customer service, RUDE and simply stupid business people. Reluctantly gave this place another try after a bad experience and they cancelled my order because I had disputed a previous charge. I told them that I disputed the charge because they wouldn't honor the lunch special at 3:31pm, she said that's because the lunch special ends at 3:30! This is after my mother had spoken to the owner about the incident and he agreed that they should have honored it. Are you kidding? Sticking by that original decision? Food: for the price, you could probably get 150% of what you're getting here in downtown Flushing. Then again, you're probably not coming here for the food or to consume gargantuan amounts of it. You're probably here for a client meeting. You chose this place to impress, probably. We ordered the bean seedling (豆苗) with some sweet and sour chicken. It was actually not bad! Tsingdao beer is definitely recommended, but you knew that already. Service: this is where Moonstone really shines. The server was much more responsive than what I'm used to in Downtown Flushing. Once seated, I was greeted with ice water and crunchy things. Dip the crunchy thing into the sauce and you have an addiction in the making. In fact, the addiction was instantaneous. The server did not try to curb my enthusiasm for the crunchy things, but kept bringing me more!! Decor: it's beautiful inside. They have a big parking lot which is great to have especially being on Northern Boulevard. The place is nicely decorated inside and has a peaceful atmosphere. I would consider this an upscale Asian restaurant. My mom and I ordered the dim sum platter for appetizer. It has about 10 pieces and the best one was the chicken & chard dumpling. The others were just okay. My mom had the honey chicken with nuts. It was okay but some piece were very chewy. I had the roast pork chow fun. The first few bites were good but then after I just felt that it was very greasy. Some of the pork pieces were just slices of fat. I felt bad but I told the waiter that I could not eat anymore of it. He was nice enough to bring chicken and broccoli instead which was much better. The staff were very polite and friendly. Maybe we ordered the wrong things here..I'd give it enough try and perhaps get one of the rolls next time. read more

I got a peek at the dinner menu and, while it looked rather pricey, I wouldn't mind spending the $$. The food was amazing and the staff was on point. I came here for lunch (get the lunch specials! Great food at reasonable prices) and it was superb. I had the shrimp puff appetizer and scallops with fried rice for about $13. I can't say that I would recommend any other Asian restaurant in the area over this one this. The interior is beautifully decorated - clean, modern, and spacious. Even the restrooms are spotless! The service is wonderful, the host and waiters are very friendly, always smiling (especially Alex!) and will explain or recommend menu items to you accordingly. The price is right for the area, and trust me, the food makes it worth it. I've only been for lunch but the lunch specials are great and the food is absolutely delicious. This restaurant sent out menus around the neighborhood with prices and offering 15% off until 1/31. When I ordered take-out, they didn't send lettuce or hoisin sauce with my lettuce wraps! The crispy beef was terrible. When I came to dine in to give them another shot, they said the discount is not valid for dine-in. Okay, fine, while I didn't agree, I was hungry. They took me to a bad crowded table and so I asked for another table I saw. They said I could not sit there because someone was charging their phone at the tables outlet and their coats were there! I ordered and had dinner which was mediocre at best. Had the "Bo Bo platter" and the shrimp toast was tiny and not good. The other two types of fried dim sum were also not edible. The pork and ribs were decent but why put both as they are practically the same item. Service was terrible as well. I asked owner for more sauce as they didn't give us enough sauce or lettuce for lettuce wraps and she told me to ask my waitress! Then I ordered another drink and it had been sitting on the bar so when a runner came by, I asked him to get it for me. Instead of getting it, he tells the waitress who motions to him that I can wait! Their most heinous offense however was when I got the check after I had to ask several times and got up and put on my jacket. Their dine in prices are higher then the prices they advertise on the menu they sent out by up to 50%. This is bad business. They should be ashamed of themselves. I had high expectations of this place after reading such wonderful reviews from my fellow Yelpers, but I was incredibly disappointed. The service is awesome. We had our waters and teas specially refilled, and they even gave us warm water for the older folks at our table. The scallion pancakes are not bad. And the lamb chops are amazing, but the good-tasting food stops there. The dim sum platter tasted old/spoiled/sour and we sent it back. They took it off our check, which is good. The sea bass was NOT fresh. Long story short, everything here is overpriced and the portions are too small. And their dishes don't even taste good or special despite the prices. Needless to say, I will not be back to give this place a second chance. I do hope for the sake of this business that they make sure their food is fresh before cooking it read more

I have been there for lunch 3 times and for dinner once. The restaurant is very beautiful and sparkly clean. And the service is great! I like the lunch more than the dinner. I'm not talking about the price but the taste. The food in lunch tastes better than the food I had in dinner. I like the rolls, they were fresh and tasty. Absolutely a wonderful experience. I got married yesterday and I did my wedding reception dinner there. The staff was very professional and very easy to work with. Man I can't say enough about these guys, they made my big day into something that was epic. The food was exceptional as well and a decent price. Just tried this new restaurant tonight with our family and I was quite pleasantly surprised. We had lots of things because we were 11 people and just about everything we ordered was very good. We started with soup dumplings, shui mai and the bacon wraps and all were delicious. The Peking duck was only fair compared to the amazing ones we've had in authentic Chinese restaurants although it was decent if you are really in the mood for this dish and you aren't in Flushing or Chinatown in NYC. The wontons in the soup that my granddaughters had were excellent. The skins were nice and thin and the fillings quite good. The crispy beef was excellent and reminded me of my once favorite restaurant Hunam in Levittown. Pretty good! The chicken and broccoli was just fair - too salty and the chicken pieces were cut very small and had that weird consistency that I'm sure most of you have experienced when eating Chinese food. Not up to par for a place whose other dishes are so good. The sesame chicken was very tasty too. Another excellent dish was the beef lettuce wraps. One of the better ones I've had. The eggplant with garlic and the green shrimp were great dishes too. The lo mein was the usual average dish which we had to order for the little ones but definitely one you can skip. Out of all the dishes we had, the Singapore chow mei fun was the worst and very disappointing. We will certainly come back, especially now that we know which dishes we can omit. Was really surprised, we had no reservations arrived at 8 pm on a Saturday night, 6 people for dinner we were sat right away. The restaurant is very nice busy while we were there, nice lighting lovely layout open but has a private feel nicely spaced tables. Menu has a lot of selections, wine list is very good. Service very attentive. We all ordered very different dishes and they were all excellent! I highly recommend the House Wonton soup for two, chicken curry and the shrimp duet.
