Outstanding experience. Professional and friendly service, delicious food and beautiful restaurant. Third floor porch offered views to the ocean and a nice breeze. Had seafood in appetizer and main course. Neither was too salty even though both used ingredients that a lesser chef would have messed up. Have avoided this place for years because I thought it was a "special occasion" place catering to people who don't eat out much. It IS a special occasion place- and a lot of the negative reviews here focus on expense. It is "expensive", compared to a plastic sign corporate slop house. It's not if you're used to good places. They don't take reservations, but handle that well. Parking is a bit of a PITA, but there's always Lyft. The restaurant spans three floors, but there's an elevator and a ramp for the front steps, so it's pretty accessible (if you need it, I do). read more

Finally dined again at Moonstruck last Saturday with a friend celebrating both our birthdays. They do not take reservations and it's first come first served. We arrived at 7:45 and were informed it was an hour wait for a table but were welcome to enjoy their cocktail lounge. We sat on the porch and ordered a bottle of wine and the nut and olives app. You get a pager but do have to close out a separate check before being seated at your table. The wine list is huge. Unfortunately, I didn't like the particular bottle of cabernet sauvignon I had ordered but I've never refused a bottle of wine before and didn't want to be a pompous jerk. It was very windy and humid that day. This restaurant is housed in a three story, what I would call a large plantation style home, with lots of windows and wrap around porches which can be requested as they are available to dine on al fresco as well. The restaurant faces south so there is no opportunity for sunset views. There is a view of the lake and some of the large vintage homes in Ocean Grove. The first floor offers a bar/lounge. The second floor is the main dining room. The third floor is reserved only for private parties I believe. The dining room is very dimly lit with small oil lamps on the tables. It's a romantic, old school vibe. From the building, to the menu to the experienced staff, it's all very traditional. I'd like to say this is a more formal place but I did see guests arriving in shorts and sandles. It is a beach town after all, I guess but I still opted to dress up a bit. After the snack and wine on the porch, we received complimentary bread and butter at our table, we ordered the baked brie appetizer, I ordered the filet mignon and my friend ordered the duck. We also got a creme brulee to share for dessert. Every tasted great. Our waitress was very professional and knowledgable. If you do not like seafood or are a vegetarian, this might not be the best place for you. I also don't see it appropriate to bring young children here. Parking can be tough, especially since they have a large section of Cookman closed off now. There is a gavel parking lot just to the right of the Moonstuck building but it is closed off. There is a large parking lot at Lake Ave & Grant Ave (1 block away) as well but I've never seen it open or used. Street parking is pretty much the only real option. If you download the Asbury PARK app, it's easy to add more time remotely if needed. read more

I wish they took reservations, but alas, they don't, so we waited about a half hour for a table outside on a Friday night. There was ample seating indoors, so if you don't feel like waiting, there's always that option. Outside, the ambiance is not quite as fancy but if you get a good seat, you can overlook the water. The food options are a bit on the pricier side. What really turned me off was that they list that there is a $25 minimum per person, which is easily done so I don't know why they had to list it. That and the extravagant corkage fee. I get that they want you to buy drinks and bottles from them, but then just don't allow outside drinks. Seemed a bit tacky. The food was good, but not out of the park, and the experience just doesn't warrant a revisit. read more

This restaurant has a great combination of ambiance, location, service, and food. It is located in Asbury right on the canal where you can enjoy a meal and see the canal if you are sitting near the window. It has multiple floors and every time we come we enjoy it. They have a seasonal menu that has a lot of solid choices. I dont believe you can go wrong here with your choices. We started with the salmon avocado toast which was ridiculous. The textures and flavors worked so well. Creaminess of the avocado with the flakiness of the salmon... beautiful thing. The beet salad was also very good. Beets are tough to cook correctly and get flavor into. They succeeded here. We also tried the crab beignets because the name intrugued us. These had huge chunks of crab and just the right amount of beignet texture to bring it together. For our entrees I highly recommend the nut crusted salmon over the lentil salad. Light dish but so much flavor. Salmon was cooked perfectly. I ordered the leg of lamb which is a huge portion and it was falling off the bone! So good! The bummer was that I loved the beef wellington one time when I came and it wasnt on the menu this time! I understand you gotta keep the menu fresh and seasonal but come on! All good!!! Always a solid place to eat. I would rate it as a 4.5 but will bump it up because it is consistently good. Take your parents, wife... actually just find someone to come with or go by yourself. Moonstruck is one of those classic restaurants that always seem to get it right. As usual, there was a wait for a table (they do not take reservations) and we made ourselves comfortable in the lounge. For dinner we shared a bottle of St Francis Zinfandel along with a couple of Bass Ales. Appetizers consisted of a very nice house salad, fried oysters and the soup of the day. Entrees consisted of a huge Pork Shank, Broiled Hake, Shrimp and Scallops and a superb NY Strip Steak. We elected to share a bread pudding and cheesecake for dessert. 5, count them, 5 stars! No need to discuss it, 5 stars all the way. Ok, we'll discuss it... My super awesome husband brought me here for a date night. We had passed by a few summers ago and had always wanted to check it out. We came on a Tuesday night, around 6, and were told about an hour wait for outside but immediate seating inside. We both wanted outside on such a gorgeous night so we waited at the bar. Note, reservations are only for large groups of 10 or more. Service at the bar was great, we ordered 2 drinks and an app, however we just missed happy hour (4-6). It felt like only a few moments and the buzzer went off because the table was ready. Our host came to the bar with a tray and carried our drinks upstairs, he also told us our app would be delivered to our table. We sat on the 3rd floor outdoor deck/porch. Gorgeous views, a nice breeze, and no music. The excellent service continued upstairs. Our server, Mike, really knew the menu and was very knowledgeable on all dishes and specials. Mike also understood without us saying so that we were going to take our time and enjoy. We were never rushed but Mike always seemed to be there at just the right moment to refresh a drink, answer a question, or just check in. We had the shrimp quesadilla for an app for $13. Totally awesome. The amazing husband had the pork shoulder with butter beans over pasta special for around $26. He said it was excellent. I had the shrimp and scallops over risotto for around $30 and it was incredible! So, so, good. I didn't want the dish to end! We split the black and white creme brulee for dessert. Perfect finishing touch to an amazing meal. We loved everything about this place and highly recommend it. It's a little pricier, but so worth it for a special night out or a date night. WOW! My husband and I came here back in March and I still felt compelled to write about what a wonderful experience we had. Our drinks, our waiter, our meals- perfection. I had a steak, hubby had the duck, we each got a drink and we finished everything. Our server was knowledgable regarding Celiac, which helped put our minds at ease, as my husband cannot consume gluten. We had an amazing time and plan to go back again in a couple weeks. Last year I was graced with experiencing this place. I came during their happy hour and was delighted at their specials and remember what a hit their calamari was for me and how delicious their steak is. I sat outside and watched the rain which was a great experience. I decided to come back and sat on the third floor outside which had an amazing view. After a delicious margarita, my date and I shared the vegetable pizza as well as their Pesto pasta which came out seasoned very well. Had a super cute server who took some pictures of us. We had the Fritto Misto to start and it was very good. I had the Filet Mignon for dinner. I had ordered it medium but it was more on the medium rare side. I came here on a Saturday evening a few weeks ago. The weather had been nice but definitely past peak tourist season. My group of 3 still had to wait about an hour for dinner. We waited in the first floor area and there was a server who came around. She brought me the wrong drink (I ordered a beer and she brought me a Cosmo) but she was pretty crotchety so I just drank it so I wouldn't have to deal with her again. The food for dinner was excellent and our waitress was very nice and helpful. They have an elevator which is great if you have someone who can't do the steps. The place inside is huge with 3 floors. The interior decoration was average and not memorable. I do think the wait was worth it though because the food was very good. Note: the beer garden and other bars nearby make it hard to find parking. The area is cute though so not bad to walk around. read more

I did not get to return to Moonstruck on my previous trip to the Jersey shore, so made a point to do so this time around. Seating is walk in only. I was planning to sit outside, but planned poorly, arriving well into the dinner rush on a Friday. If you want outdoor seating at such a peak time, I'd suggest going on the very early side of things. That said, I was seated immediately at the bar, where Pete served up a fantastic mojito. I went with the seared shrimp and scallops, both of which were fantastic. Scallops were cooked perfectly, and would make Gordon Ramsay proud. Shrimp were large and also cooked just right. The dish came with a risotto that was also quite good. Great Great Great This is a nice place to go to dinner. Three floors of Victorian class overlooking the lake. We have always skipped this place because of the no reservation policy. Valentine's Day we watched Moonstruck the movie and Tonight we finally tried it . We went a little early to find no wait time. The service was the highest I've seen anywhere in the area. Very attentive to our table and always there when needed. The food was nothing short of spectacular. Steak- shrimp- lamb - cheesecake-drinks- everyone at our table said it was by far the best meal they had in over a year. We love Moonstruck. Ideally we come here once per season. The bar has a nice warm ambiance and the food is always on par with restaurants in manhattan. On the Summer menu we love the watermelon and feta salad. Tonight we went to dinner and the fall menu was outstanding. First let me tell you about eggplant fries. Just get them you will eat every single one and want more. Quickly flash fried in 10 seconds with a crisp outside sprinkled with sea salt and honey. Just pure WOW. Second course we split a Sweet potato, kale and spinach salad was really enjoyable. Light and healthy with a warm fall theme. For our main courses I had branzino into it was perfect my cooked no heavy sauce. My husband enjoyed the shrimp with tomatoes, linguine and arugula he said it was light and flavorful. This visit was a Wednesday before Christmas, got there for happy hour 4-6, and had a delicious Bellini-tini! Half price and the most wonderful drink you can get for $5! Bar got busy between 5:30 and 6. Ate upstairs and had the "Locals" $33 special- appetizer, dinner, dessert. I started with the zucchini fries - OMG! Lightly fried and drizzled with honey, devine! Chose the petit filet mignon, with mashed potatoes and veggies. Tender and delicious, ate every bite. For dessert I had the chocolate raspberry torte, very good. Overall fabulous meal, Christmas decorations were excellent, service first rate. At busy times reservations are strongly suggested. read more

As a new neighbor, I had no idea that Asbury is so fabulous now. It has become the Hoboken of the shore area and this restaurant is right at the top of the list. Very classy, good choices of menu items, and during restaurant week - what a great deal! We were told to sit at the small intimate bar upstairs which looked like a great choice, but were looking for a quiet corner for two that night. The beet salad was amazing, as promised. The gnocchi was very good. And the desserts were amazing, although we had to take them home to eat them. Top drawer choice for date night - worth the wait. read more

Bottom line: I've had one of the best dining experiences yet in Asbury Park here at Moonstruck. Not only do I enjoy their cocktails at their bar, but the food was so good that I came away with a five star feeling. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. The Deets: We had stopped into Moonstruck on a few occasions for a cocktail on the first floor bar and had great experiences (shout out to our bartender, she was great!). But recently we got to enjoy Moonstruck for a weekend dinner and it was just as wonderful as our brief cocktail encounters. Moonstruck does not accept reservations except on certain holidays so we were worried about a wait, however there was no wait surprisingly even though a holiday party was in full swing. The three stories of this beautiful venue give them plenty of space for guests and we were seated quickly. The interior is very nicely and tastefully decorated where you can dress up or down for dining here. Our menus were promptly distributed and drink orders taken, as service was helpful and attentive throughout our visit. I enjoyed my blood orange martini very much, I highly recommend the cocktails here. Starting off with the soup du jour and a Caesar salad, they were excellent. I ordered the Penne Chicken and Peas (with olive oil, butter, garlic and rosemary) while Chris M. ordered the Pesto Chicken pasta. One of the best entree experiences, if not the best, I have had in Asbury Park. I remember going "wow, I'm going to have to come here more often" while finishing off my entree...so much I will give Moonstruck my five star rating, coming away with that feeling. I gave two stars for my meal. And the stars are mostly for my waiter and being able to sit outside. The food. I ordered a pizza with olives, capers, mozzarella and a few more ingredients. Well there was no mozzarella at all. And the size of the pizza was way smaller than I expected. Look I didn't expect 14 inches, but my God it had to be 6 inches. A little bigger than a tea cup dish. And it was $15. And then I had the linguini with shrimps and clams. I asked the waiter if it had chopped clams in the sauce. He stated no. I know about this dish since my dad used to make this and my step dad does it too. Well again the price is $29 and I got 5 medium shrimps. Not jumbo. And the clams were so small you couldn't even see them. And they only gave 4 and one had the black garbage still in the clam. The sauce and pasta was good but not like it was homemade pasta. I have tasted better for the price. I did not have desert. My sons had the lamb chop which was about $36 each. My wife had 12 small clams and a side of Risotto. And my sons girlfriend had the tuna. Just put it this way, there is no reason for a dogie bag. Just say my son came home and ate a turkey sandwich. So no desert and just one glass of wine and one appetizer that was some kind of fondue cheese dip. Plus two dishes of their soup with tip was $305. And I am still hungry. Last year we ate at Flames In Belmar for my sons birthday, and I never had such an incredible meal. The food just kept on coming and everything was tender and tasty. That was worth the price. The exact same price. Look I understand if this restaurant had an incredible ocean view, and you could walk outside and feel the breeze. But it doesn't. I ate at a restaurant on the water and in fact could walk on the beach in Point Pleasant, and their meal was more plentiful than this restaurant. Same price. Just put it this way, I won't be coming here anymore. read more

This is the perfect date night location. No matter what we've ordered here, we've left satisfied. The staff is always friendly and the food is consistently delicious. On top of that -- the atmosphere is not half bad, it's pretty romantic. And when the weather is warm we love sitting outside on the top deck where we can look out over the lake. I've only been to the bar at Moonstruck, so I can't comment on their food. I've been told by a number of folks I work with who have come here that it is, indeed, very good. The building is beautiful and nicely appointed. The view of the lake is nice, and they even have a piano. I thought the attitude of the staff was a bit "snooty," so I didn't stay for a meal. I might give it another chance though, I could have just been there on an off day when several people with attitudes were working. read more

I take it moonstruck is the fancy place in these parts. Three whole levels of seating is impressive. The menu is extensive & the wait staff is chipper. I made a mistake by asking our waiter how the chef best recommends the Ahi Tuna. The response was no preference & so I said medium. Medium turned into well done... And the answer to how ahi tuna tastes best is always raw/seared. I guess I could blame myself for not responding correctly, but that wouldn't be fun. read more

We have not been back here for a sit down dinner in awhile but we are now hooked on their happy hour menu served at the bar and tables located on the first floor near the entrance. Select menu items and wine at 1/2 price on week nights Wed-Fri as well as Sunday. Great food at a very nice price. Their ambience including music choice along with the service provided by their bartender Erik is first rate. Long over due for my update here but keep in mind that I'm talking about happy hour, which has become our week night dining choice for the most part. Really enjoyed my dinner here. Last night was restaurant week and I tried the three course menu they offered. Tried the fritto misto - very good remoulade on the side. Caesar salad was good but I felt it could have used shaved parmeggiano reggiano. The potato chip encrusted salmon with green onion mashed potatoes was excellent- veggies were cooked to perfection. The crunch coating on the salmon was excellent. I had chocolate ice cream in a merengue shell topped with pecans and a caramel sauce for dessert. The bartender was super friendly and pleasant.
