Made my first dine-in restaurant visit since March at Moreland's Tavern. Sat outside on the patio. Our food was amazing. I had the friend chicken sandwich, which was immaculate, with salad. My friend had the steak frites and she enjoyed that too. I had a Sierra Nevada IPA to go with my dinner and my friend had one of their wines. The service was great, we got our food faster than expected. Max did a wonderful job. Moreland's Tavern is a nice place. I hope it sticks around as long as possible. read more

Great neighborhood bar/restaurant with a casual but exquisite selection of foods and warm, friendly staff. Spacious and two-tiered with a cozy ambience; a pleasant sidewalk seating area with a communal feel. My wife and I usually go there for brunch. Wifey likes to add an egg over easy onto her brunch burger and I seem to always order the pork belly tacos. The fish tacos are just as tasty; both are highly recommended. You'll find pasta and other crowd pleasers. Good salads too. The menu seems underwhelming by design yet perfectly satisfying any kind of appetite for any time of the day or night. I like going there for a quick drink in the outdoor seating area; terrific spot for people-watching and catching a decent view of the sunset. Our baby boy loves the place and seems to always have a good time. The staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. All kinds of crowds, but definitely family-friendly. I can't remember if I've already written a review for Moreland's; it's been awhile since my first visit. We were back today and I just like it so much I had to praise it here. It's an unassuming neighborhood place, an older, attractive building in a neighborhood of older homes, just off 16th St NW. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. They have outdoor tables but it was so hot today that we sat inside. The staff is very friendly. I like the atmosphere so much - it seems anyone is made to feel at home. If I lived in that neighborhood I'm sure I would be a very happy regular at Moreland's. read more

They had EXCELLENT fries -- I was craving some good pub fries and Moreland's scratched the itch. First of all, their fries are HUGE -- the thick kind, they still have the potato skin on them, and they're fried perfectly. The rest of my meal was good -- I had the pork belly tacos and a cocktail, but the fries really hit the spot. read more

Five stars is not enough! We live in the neighborhood and try to get here once a week. The food is fantastic, the staff are great, prices are super reasonable. The space is a bit of an awkward shape inside, but the patio area is huge when the weather is nice. read more

We had a ready great time on their outside patio earlier this evening. Heat lamps are attached to the ceiling so the heat is uniform on the table. Our server, think it was Max, was so friendly and accommodating with our group. We had a reservation for 5 people and they made room for all 8 people who ended up making it out to dinner. The Brussel sprout app was great and we were all happy with our "hand helds" - a great burger, great chicken sandwich and tots. Came to Moreland's for Happy Hour... $5 Craft Brews and discounted Buffalo Wings and Homemade Hot Pockets. The Beef and Tomato Hot Pockets and the Ratatouille Hot Pockets were excellent savory bar snacks (two were not heated all the way through, but Moreland's was very nice about replacing them). The Buffalo Wings were a perfunctory version, and the Pretzel Bread was small and anemic... come to Happy Hour for the Hot Pockets or don't come at all! read more

This review was headed for 3 stars, but here's why I changed my mind. To start, this is a great location for a bar. Inside is very charming and the upstairs is spacious. As far as food goes, I was torn. The wings were big, tasty, and had some great bleu cheese. But the mac and cheese was one of the worst dishes I've ever had. Mac and cheese is a SIMPLE dish, and although there are ways to doctor it up and make it tastier, it should not contain an entire salad (peppers, onions, etc.) It was disgusting. However, my bartender was so accommodating! She willingly took it off the bill, as well as checked on us frequently! read more

Came on a Wednesday evening around six o clock with two kids in tow. We got burgers, spaghetti and meatball and the pretzel bread, all were delicious! We went upstairs for the seating- there were quite a few families there. As expected the kids menu is great (love that it's pasted into kids books, which we enjoyed reading- why doesn't everyone do that?) I really loved my cocktail! It was a vodka with a shrub made with strawberries and jalepeno. Attentive service. So excited about this neighborhood option! Am looking forward to trying more from this place. read more

Whoever was in the kitchen tonight was on fire, our food was DELICIOUS! We ordered online (so easy) and my husband did the walk up window for pickup. I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was so good, perfectly moist and crispy and really well seasoned. He got the veggie burger and loved the new bun. We shared a 4 pack of Anxo Cider which really hit the spot. The food here is really good, I also like the cheddar grits a lot and their salads. They are also doing a great job with the social distancing and precautionary guidelines. I feel very comfortable ordering takeout from this restaurant. Great place to have a drink, snacks, or dinner. The Tavern Old Fashioned is tasty along with brussel sprouts. The pork belly tacos we're very good. The shrimp grits were nice; shrimp were perfectly cooked. Grits could have used a bit more salt. The mussels need a little something extra, maybe more garlic, the sauce was a bit flat. And definitely needs more than one piece of toasted bread. Service is friendly and prices are good. read more

Morelands is a wonderful neighborhood spot. Everything on the menu is delicious. They do a great burger special every Tuesday.

I try to love this place. The space is nice, the patio is spacious. And it is a true neighborhood hangout. But the food is so, so, so mediocre. Undercooked fish, greasy/oily grilled salmon, skimpy portions. I'm not saying don't go. But I am saying hey to the owners - can your kitchen folks maybe cook like they care? It just feels like they don't. And that is sad when you have a clientele who does care and tries to support you through tough times. read more

This is a dive bar that operates with white linen reservation expectations and we could not have been more disappointed. Moreover, things have changed here with management and quality of service. We waited to be seated, they cleared an area, moved us again and then the manager came over to say they basically could not accommodate us. He expressed that they were busy, I asked him what he recommended, his response "go somewhere else" honestly-floored. It is clear that they are comfortable treating customers accordingly, clearly we left. I waited to write this review because I don't like to put energy into fueling experiences where there is blatant disrespect and disregard. I really believe people are entitled to bad days and moments, but it was the cavalier way it all took place and I feel like I read review to understand where my time and money is well spent. In talking with others in the community, they have had similar experiences so recommend going elsewhere until they get better management. read more

This place was simply a delight. The service was great with a bartender that gave witty banter which I am always a fan of. He was also very accommodating when it came to switching to the "correct" football game. The drinks were also good and they had a decent list of beers on draft as well. We went to Moreland's for an early dinner with the kids and it was absolutely lovely. The server was great (didn't mind our baby-toting party:), and the food was fantastic. They make their black bean burger in-house, and the fries were perfection. My husband and stepson each had the steak nicoise and thought it was fantastic and my stepdaughter ate every bite of the spaghetti with meat sauce and said it was delicious! I have to admit that I've only had two cocktails here so I can't speak to the food, but as a local resident this is a much needed addition to the neighborhood. Service was very friendly, nice atmosphere, and the cocktails I had were absolutely delicious. They have a gorgeous outdoor space which will be nice to utilize in the warmer months. Went for the first time on a chilly Sunday (yesterday), and I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people here. As a Petworth resident who has been around since Colorado Kitchen was across the street, it's really good to see a restaurant back over in this neck of the woods, and this one shows promise while also having some room for improvement. Below are my first impressions, but I'll definitely be back. - 5 stars for the music. - YMMV. - 4.5 stars for the space itself. - Cozy downstairs, a bit less so upstairs (too many too big TVs, but maybe they turn them off when it's not Sunday evening or NFL isn't on. One can hope.), but still cool with exposed bricks and another big bar and plenty of space between tables. They need to do something fun with the outdoor space during the months it's unused, because the big fenced-in area isn't all that inviting, but that's just a tip. - 3.5 stars for the service. - Nothing bad, really, just a little unpolished. Waitress set our drinks down in odd places on the table (I know that sounds picky and weird, but that's because you're used to not having to thin about this), orders were initially offered to the wrong person, that sort of thing. The waitress was very nice and prompt (although I bet management might have wanted her to be a bit more hasty in asking us if we wanted more drinks). Host that greeted us downstairs was super nice. - 3 stars for the food. - Not bad, but nothing special either. Props to them for keeping it simple and doing things that are hard to mess up, like spaghetti & meatballs (which was good), fried catfish (also good, according to our guest), burgers, etc. The meatball sliders were good, but the pork belly tacos needed more sauce, were cold, and looked like they had been sitting around the kitchen since lunch. The Brussels sprouts needed more acid or something. The upside: the prices are positively suburban. Most expensive entree is $19. Family-friendly indeed. So, averaged out, 4 stars. 3.8 if you take out the music, which is probably a bit more accurate. Definitely a good start. A young restaurant that is a good addition to the neighborhood that has room for improvement, but with continued support could be a solid option for years to come I hope. If you live in the neighborhood, you're duty-bound to go try this place out. read more

I wish they had 0 stars... We had a 6:00 pm reservation. We arrived at 5:45 pm. The "hostess" acted like we committed a crime by arriving early. He said he had a few reservations ahead of us, which was fine BUT then a couple without a reservation arrived and he was extremely nice to them. He didn't seat them at the 5 or 6 empty tables, but showed them to the bar and even moved a bar stool for them to put their baby stroller. It was a head scratcher for me because he was so welcoming and accommodating to the people behind us but was flippant to us when we had a reservation (and arrived early). As I looked around I noticed there weren't ANY people of color there in a predominantly Black neighborhood.. Moreland's used to be the neighborhood spot. We used to go there weekly, our children would do their homework at the table while they waited for their food. My friends even had their birthday party at Moreland's (Pre-Covid). The new team sucks and they don't have any people skills. I'm looking forward to telling my friends that own homes in the neighborhood how awful they are and hopefully they will close with some of the other restaurants that cater to White people only. #newdc read more

Great place for kids without being kid-centric. Only wish the menu had a couple more options, but better to do what you do, well than trying to be all things to all comers. We stopped in here for an early Thursday evening dinner last night with our three boys, aged 18 months, 6 and 6. What a great little spot with a ton of character, great food, and a friendly staff. That they're doing this in an area of town that's been really underserved makes all of this even better, as many here have pointed out. We had meatball sliders, chicken tacos, the pretzels (we ordered more cause they were so good), and some kids mac n' cheese. Food came out quickly which is always good when you've got the little ones in tow. Drinks were good, too. Really loved the kids' menus being inside of children's books, which had us reading aloud to the kids while we waited for food. Matt the co-owner stopped by to chat with us and was super friendly. Turns out he and my wife grew up a stone's throw away from one another. He was similarly making sure all the other guests there felt welcomed. That personal touch goes a long way and I'm sure will help build upon what already seems like a pretty happy relationship between Moreland's and its neighbors. Moreland's is a great neighborhood spot. They also have a great event space. I worked with them to plan a surprise party. They were so easy to work with and accommodated all of my requests making the party really special. I highly recommend Moreland's and will definitely think of them again if I ever need to plan another event. read more
