So-so service, so-so breakfast. It was far from busy when we went in and it still took them a remarkably long time to pay attention to us and seat us. Like not even a "hey I'll be with you in a sec" or anything. And it's a small place and there were so many open tables. Two servers seemed not to be able to decide which one was getting our table so we were getting weird duplicate service like "are you ready to order?" Twice in two minutes. Like no we weren't a second ago and we still aren't. The french toast I ordered was yummy and super cinnamon-y but came out pretty room temp. Meh. California omelette was above average. Solid breakfast potatoes. The only bathroom had an out of order sign and when we asked she said it wasn't really it was just running slow and they didn't want people to use it...awk. I had the Tex-Mex Burger while being in San Francisco for a few days, and boy, was it good! Huge patty with plenty of the toppings, nice and juicy, loads of flavor. I ordered it with the Fries, which were also nice and crispy, but almost too much to eat due to the huge size of the burger! This little joint makes an awesome burger! Little North Beach favorite with big flavor. All of their burgers look very complex and multidimensional which is always a plus, especially since so many places just have a traditional cheeseburger. Better than ramen, but bland? Well, that is how Mo's potatoes taste, except they have a kitchen full of herbs and spices and other ingredients to make them taste better. This confuses me. Anyhow, if you are hungover and need breakfast Mo's has it. Get the fruit instead of the potatoes...it is a nice mix of fresh stuff that tastes good. After we watched "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" showin' Joe's Cable Car Hamberger, we checked out Yelp and learned that Joe's Cable Car isn't a good place to go. It seems like the place is good for jackass. I trust Yelper more than Guy Fieri. So, we went Mo's. we had Grilled Cheese Burger, $7.50. I have heard that cooking grilled burger is harder than griddled. But Mo's grilled burger was: No sesami on Mo's bun but What a NICE BUN! It has a good texture soft bun. We asked for medium and it was medium. The 1 thing i liked about the burger was that the 7oz patty was really juicy and had a great smoky flavor. I am a steak fries kind a guy but this thin cut fries was good and crispy. The Mo's isn't a weekend backyard dude making a hockey-puck burger. Mo's grills up some of the juiciest burgers I've ever had. They carve and grind their own beef here; that's why their thick burgers taste so fresh. With careful attention I sat at the counter recently and watched as one of the kitchen guys pulled a big slab of beef out of a refrigerator unit. He carefully carved out and discarded all of the fatty areas of the slab then proceeded to cut the beef into long strips for grinding. The burgers are grilled on a flaming circular grill in the open kitchen. My medium well burger was more medium and less well. Hot juices dripped all over my hands and onto my plate with the first bite. Thank goodness they use big, sturdy rolls here that soak up the juices without falling apart. The beef is seasoned and has a slight saltiness to the meat. On my most recent visit I had the Mushroom Burger without cheese. The delicious mushrooms were piled high and had a bold garlicky flavor. The waitress will always ask if you want mayonnaise on your roll. If you choose it it usually is a fairly thin film. A big lettuce leaf and thick slices of ripe tomato and red onion come on the side. You can also request crunchy pickles. Fries are not included with the burger, but they can be ordered separately. A regular order is humongous. The shoestring potatoes are fried up to a golden crisp and often comes out in a clump so it's almost like eating waffle fries. They serve breakfast until 3 PM and they have other things besides burgers for lunch and dinner, but their drippy, juicy burgers are always my first choice. Soda and ice tea are refilled multiple times. The burgers take time to cook, but the service is excellent. As expected with a name like Mo's, there are several images and memorabilia of Moe of the The Three Stooges on the walls. There was a brief period in my single history where my two best friends decided that we would have to forage our way in testing and declaring the best hamburger joints in SF. Granted this was during the period where I could consume anything, stay out late, and not really have to worry about my looks going to waste. Beef, bring it on. Ambiance is typical that of an urban diner. Not cheesy, yet indicative enough of the fact that it did cater to the very casual crowd and quick counter-like service. I always ordered my usual, a plain-Jane Best Burger with tomato, lettuce, and onions. I'm a picky sort of hamburger person, since the more greenery piled on, makes for an interesting texture of crunch and release the minute my teeth hits the patty. Oh, and I must have mayo. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. This was no exception. The burgers here are juicy and worthy of the many napkins littering the table. French fries are typical, slightly thicker than shoestring, but enough crunch to get my mouth happy. For around $6, this is not a bad deal. Other times, have called for brunch after a late night of too much dancing or hanging out with great friends. I was personally craving their banana pancakes, so I ordered their usual. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I was like, "hey guys there's a popular place with really good reviews and it's close. let's go there" so we drive around to Mama's on Washington Square and approach this huge gigantic enormous line. In my head, I'm like what could people possibly waiting for in line this early that's not Alcatraz on Sunday morning?? It was Mama's!!!! WHAT? Well good riddance. BYE. THEN. We walk over to Brioche Bakery and Cafe and walk right out because they don't serve the REAL breakfast until 9am. BYE. *Enter Mo's Grill - Review Actually Begins Here* By this time I'm really hungry. I see potatoes twirling in the front window on these huge pans and get really excited. They fill up your coffee after every sip you take. The restaurant had just opened and already filled up quickly. This place has lots of regulars and tourists. I ordered two eggs over easy, with the breakfast potatoes, and an english muffin. After some deliberation, my friend and I decided to split a plate of the pancakes. I couldn't leave without trying them. The potatoes were honestly some of the best potatoes I've ever had - nicely browned and crispy but soft when it mattered. My eggs were perfectly runny. The pancakes were amazing, a little dense and super filling, and more cake-like than usual. Delicious. The plates are pricey, but I'm finally starting to accept that this is SF and I can't avoid it. The menu is simple and cuts to the chase. They do burgers, and not much else. The lazy susan grill by the front window means business. Sweet 'n simple restaurants like this always score big points with me. Not to mention the pro wrestling on TV! Mo's is on a meaty mission. One side of crispy, shoe-string fries were enough for us both. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. My girlfriend had asked for a medium well cooked burger, but it arrived medium rare and a little bloody. The waitress took it away apologizing and came back 5 minutes later with a brand new plate - new bun, new patty, new everything. And the chef didn't punish her for asking for well done, but expertly brought the interior of the patty to a delicate pink, rather than grilling the cow out of it. Visiting San Francisco for a week so we've been looking for good food. Found this place when we googled good burgers. My wife got a cheeseburger and the flavor was on point. Life is a delicate proposition during the early Sunday morning hours, and it is the grave responsibility of the brunch proprieter to gently navigate the fragility of his or her patron's well-being. The formula is simple: start with fresh, high-quality ingredients, competently and straightforwardly prepare and cook, serve hot and immediately. Keep the coffee coming, black, bitter and glorious. We are not asking for Iron Chef here, people. Now, the veggie omelette was fantastic. The banana pancake hearty and thick without being mealy or starchy. The fresh fruit cup that was a substitute for the home fries was better than I could have bought at the grocery store. Coffee was ample. Even had a nice nook to sit it, stare at Amanda F. rubbing the sand out of her eyes, and it was late enough in the morning that the sight of the coal-fired burgers almost hoodwinked me away from my common sense and order one instead of brunch food. But, my god, how long does it take to fry some egg and fold it over a tomato or two? Pancakes take all of three minutes to cook when the batter is premade. Did Jesus take his sweet ass time with the water and the wine-tasting? Did he slow braise his fish and use 2 year-old sourdough starter for the loaves? Hell no. He gave it to them raw, unfiltered, and on-time. Why should I have to wait sipping coffee for fifteen minutes longer than it takes to cook my breakfast? If your myopic kitchen staff can't handle the short-order heat, then don't f**cking seat me. Make me stand outside, staring at that pretentious revolving burger grill and wondering which one of you is to blame for carbonating the atmosphere and killing the earth for my children. When I'm feeling poor, hungry, hungover, or a mixture of the three (usually ever Sunday) I head over to Mo's and allow them to make my life a little more easier to live. I highly recommend ordering an egg dish for brunch: the portions are enormous, the ingredients fantastic, and it will arrive promptly, fresh off the griddle. I would recommend subbing out the potatoes for the fruit cup, as their fruit is always outstanding - fresh, sweet, and a great selection. The pancakes and french toast are also excellence, and the portions large enough to tide you over to dinnertime with leftovers for the following morning. Mo's has good service, it's relatively easy to get a table for 2-4 people for brunch, it's DIRT CHEAP for the portions they offer, and they have bottomless coffees. The very good salad is not very good and I won't consider ordering the chili cheese fries again. My friend who ordered the classic burger was disappointed they did not assemble the burger for him. After reading the burger reviews on Yelp, I will consider going back to order one of their specialty burgers. I've had probably one of the better breakfasts here just yesterday during North Beach Festival. The line at Mama's wasn't moving even after standing patiently for 10 minutes and hunger beat out my need for French Toast and we found ourselves at Mo's since it was highly recommended. The place itself is small and the menu options match the size of the seating but since this place boasts great burgers, I imagine having a Cheesecake Factory size menu doesn't draw much more of a crowd. We took two seats at the counter by the television and took our time to soak in the menu. The counter server greeted us kind of brusquely as if she was in a hurry, took our menus but got my coffee out to me instantaneously. I ordered the 2 eggs breakfast with wheat toast and chicken sausage because the options weren't appealing otherwise. I should point out she seemed kind of annoyed with me when I asked her to repeat the toast options and she almost yelled, "white or wheat!" at me with a short rude tone. Obviously, someone needed her coffee more than I needed mine. Thank goodness the food was good otherwise, this place would get one star from me. If you get breakfast, you should really swallow your hate loathing pride and get the home fried potatoes. Put some sour cream and cheese on it while you're at it and you've got those Nebulous Potato Thing from St. Francis next to your eggs and toast. I really enjoyed the thickness of the bread and globs of thick salted butter already slathered on my toast. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the chicken sausage casing had a lovely snap to it so the food was a home run. The food runner even refilled my coffee 2x while my original counter server watched the World Cup. Overall, I'd probably come back again for the burgers as they did look juicy and appetizing spinning on their grill in the front and it smelled equally appealing. I would be careful to pick and choose my server though because although the food was great, her surliness left a acrid taste in my mouth. I was a fool Mo(s), and I'm sorry... not TOO long ago, I wrote a review for curly's down the street proclaiming them to be the best breakfast (mama's excluded) in north beach. how wrong could I be!?!? since that ever so contraversial review, I went back to curly's, then once again to Mo's, and there's really no comparison. So here we go: Mo's, is hands down the best breakfast in North beach, and if you factor in waiting time it beats Mama's too. eggs: whether it's a delicious mexican omlette, or yoru sticking with some simple scrambled eggs, mo's is perfect. Not over cooked not too soggy, the eggs leave you begging for more. potatoes: the homefries here are legendary. Delicious, perfectly seasoned, i throw some hot sauce and ketchup on before diving in with a fervor. toast: Ok, so i'ts hard to mess up toast, but the JAM they have at mo's is again perfect. Sweet, succulent and... well jammy.. it adds the perfect sweet twist to an otherwise savory meal meat: bacon? check. sausage? check. porkchop? yeah... tha'ts right. Even the pork chop and the steak here are incredible. i never thought i'd get eggs and a porkchop... but give it a try! you'll be happily surprised. I came here in the middle of the afternoon so it was nice and quiet therefore the service was great. I have a feeling though that even if it was busy the waitress would have been able to do a great job just because she had a good demeanor to her. The restaurant reminds me of a coffee shop and has plenty of pictures of Larry, Curly and Mo on the walls. I assume the owner has an infatuation with the old show or is in fact named Mo, but probably both are true. I took a seat at the counter and had a beautiful view of the dirty dishes, sink and garbage can. I'd like to romanticize about it but this was the truth. On the upside they have at least eight bottled beers available and did I mention the waitress was great. I ordered a burger with blue cheese caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms. I requested it be cooked medium but it was pink and bloody on the inside. I'd almost say cold but not quite. If I go back I'll be sure to ask for it burnt to a crisp then maybe they will understand that blood is bad in a burger. The thin cut fries that came with the burger were the best part of the meal and I feel bad about requesting mayonnaise to drown them in but what's done is done. These fries were great. What is a make or break deal is that for some reason they feel in necessary to hide the city health inspection. For most people they may forget, I don't. I looked it up and it's 92. And one violation for Foods not separated or protected and this bugs me a little as the meat I was served was almost raw. The three stars is for the bloody burger. read more

I ended up here on a whim. I went off on my own to explore the city one day on a trip, and Mo's just happened to be on the way as I walked up towards Coit Tower. I'm glad I stopped. Twice. First, in the morning, I peeked inside and figured it would be a good spot for a decent breakfast. I was right. I ended up having an omelette with some delicious home fries, along with a fresh-squeezed orange juice (a little pricey, at $3.25). But someone told me that I had to have a burger - and I'm a burger fan. Already stuffed, yet incredibly tempted, I decided I'd come back some other time. And by "some other time," I mean "later that day." On their menu, I saw the "belly buster." I figured I might as well go all-out and get this, since I was on vacation. The burger lived up to its name, and the sweet carmelized onions melted in my mouth. The fries were perfectly greasy and just a little bit crispy. I've been coming to Moes probably since the early 90s when it first opened. Back in the day, especially when the owner had a hand in food preparation, the burgers and pita chicken were 6 stars, if there could be such a thing. Nowadays, the food is still consistently prepared with good quality meats, but depending on who is manning the grill, you can get a 4.5 star burger or as low as a 3 star burger, which makes going to Moes something of a crapshoot. I can't say enough about the pita chicken; however prepare to use 4+ napkins as it can be very messy, though it is worth every finger licking moment (tip: eat some of the tomato chunks before picking up a pita to reduce size). The waitresses and cooks are almost always nice and friendly and I can't remember the last time I wasn't served my food predictably and promptly, though be prepared to wait a while (especially when it's crowded) for your food. read more

Mo's is pretty neat. They have a funky way of cooking their beef, involving a rotating slotted grill and lava rocks. I don't know the details, but it's impressive to watch in action. Food is good. Burgers you can't complain about. Fries, meh, wasn't that impressed with 'em. Someone in another review wrote that In-N-Out would be a worthwhile alternative, and really, that's not so off the mark. Of course, you won't get the atmosphere of this place in an In-N-Out, but the quality of burger is comparable. If you like In-N-Out burgers you'll like the burgers here. Staff was on top of it, but considering that the place was nearly empty on a Saturday morning, they would have to be. There would be no excuse otherwise. Decor is diner-esque. Walking around the area again one day, my lady and I wanted to come here for a burger..but then I noticed how good the breakfast looked so we got that instead.. I got the blueberry pancakes..and she got the french toast and we got a small plate of bacon.. OMG huge portions!!! The blueberry pancakes were really good!! plenty of boooberries, nice and crisp outside but nice and fluffy inside..best blueberry pancakes I've had.. I can toss that hands down.. The french toast comes with fruit as an option but she didnt really feel like it at the time..that was tastey too but I preferred my pancakes..and the bacon? well the bacon was bacon...and bacon tastes good..they do have some thick slices though..so not only are they not skimpy with portions but they pack the taste with it too.... Mo's is a standby (breakfast or brunch) joint for the hungover person living in Chinatown or North Beach. The food (in general) is hit or miss - sometimes it's amazing, sometimes they put cayenne pepper in your Eggs Benedict. Menu items which are always outstanding: The chili cheese fries are amazingly good - they are a little piece of happiness in my mouth. The milkshakes rock my world. Some of the best hamburgers in the city - caramelized onions, mushrooms and melty-melty cheese on delicious rare beef - better than sex. Almost. The restaurant, it's self, is very small and cramped - it is easy to end up at a table where you're pinned in a corner by some guy who's not astute enough to actually get up and MOVE when you're trying to leave. Saturday and Sunday mornings are always extra crowded at Mo's - so, be sure to go a little earlier than you want to be there at to grab one of the tables.
