My friend and I stumbled across this place trying to find a cheap spot in north beach. The rotating grill over the open fire was what caught our eye. We were seated and served quickly, splitting some fries, milkshakes, and a bbq burger (that they cut in half for us)! The burger was perfectly cooked, the fries stayed crispy and were fresh, the onions were plentiful, and the pickle was crunchy! The extra milkshake was left in its metal cup so we could keep topping it off. The ambiance was superb, and we gazed at beautiful handpainted murals and statues of cows. What more can I say?! I've been a Mo's Grill client for over 20 years; possibly very close to 25. Time flies, doesn't it?! My original review on yelp in 2015 and the following 85 check-ins are testaments to the fact that I love their food. I remember a time when all I ordered were omelets. They are made with fresh ingredients and three eggs, so bring an empty stomach! Then I switched to the Breakfast Burrito! That sucker is HUGE, but every single bite is worth the calories you will consume! There is so much good stuff in this big bubba that I am not even going to try! I have also gone through my burger and salad phase! Over the years I have literally tried every single burger on their menu! My favorites burgers are Bacon Burger, BBQ Burger, Tex-Mex Burger, Western Burger and Volcano Burger! If I had to pick one, I'd go with the very basic Best Burger. The meat is high quality and the patty is not tin like you see in many places. And my friends, please do NOT forget the fries! Over the last couple of years I have grown kind of their steaks too! Their steak and eggs is my favorite Sunday brunch item now! What better way to start your Sunday with a great steak and eggs and a couple of good cups of coffee? The crew there are fantastic! My husband discovered Mo's back in the day as a trial lawyer arguing in front of the PUCP. He'd have an enviable amount of $$ to spend on his usual business trips with meals; however, he regularly chowed down at Mo's. He got me and every one of our kids hooked on coming here every vacation. It's really THAT good and just as important to us, they respect and welcome anyone who visits. Workers have been here since the beginning of time, because they treat their employees with same respect and love as they do all their customers, It was obvious that my hubby and I were coming here! Like diner food without the diner décor. Reasonably priced and large portions. It's nice to have some non-Italian options in North Beach to pick from every now and then. Bowl of Chili: This was a surprise hit. Lots of tender pulled pork. Soft beans. Tons of a flavor. And a nice kick. The hearty garlic bread was great for dipping and scooping. A bowl with free garlic bread is seriously enough for a whole meal. Wasn't expecting this inexpensive side to be so good. Belly Buster Burger w/ Fries: From Yelp, it seems like this place is known for their burgers. And their menu shows lots of creative combinations. I'm normally not a mushroom fan, but this looked so good, had to try it. Sure enough the mushrooms and caramelized onions were so packed with flavor, I was a convert. Though I didn't taste a lick of the truffle oil mentioned in the menu; I have my own truffle oil at home so I know even a little should go a long way. Meanwhile, the burger patty was meaty and a great medium doneness. The fries were thin and crispy. Only issue was that a lot of the fries were really small, which made them awkward to dip in ketchup. Beef Brisket Meal (Wednesdays): Apparently the brisket sandwich is available every day, but the brisket meal is only available on Wednesdays. HUGE portion of meat. Like 3 large slabs. Not fall apart Texas BBQ tender. More like a home roast that was cooked in a modest amount of time so it cuts like firm roast beef. Best to cut off thinner slices to really appreciate it. The meat was quite flavorful, but I wasn't a fan of the big fat chunks in the slabs I received. The spinach side was full of nice garlicky flavor, but also needed to be cut thin since the big whole leaf form was a bit a too chewy. The potatoes were starchy with a nice gravy. read more

My goodness, I stumbled upon this restaurant when I was walking around North Beach. It has old school diner vibes and a super open kitchen where you can see the chefs hard at work preparing delicious food. My man got the breakfast sandwich and I got the Norwegian omelette. The sides menu at Mo's Grill is kind of cool. I love how you can get a cup of chowder as a side or the regular stuff like fries, coleslaw, cup of chili or an organic mix greens. Tonight I had the belly buster burger (cheddar, caramelized onions & mushrooms) $13 + fries $4. The top bun was toasted and was dry. It could have used some aioli sauce or mayonnaise. Luckily I asked for a side of ranch for my fries which I then used for the top bun. The meat could have used more seasoning. I really wanted an egg on my burger but the chef said eggs are only available during breakfast hours. No worries. Regardless, it was a good meal. Good job everyone at Mo's Grill. read more

What a fantastic hidden gem. We were in North Beach looking for lunch and saw the spinning grill in the window and was intrigued. We were seated at the counter and given menus. The amount of dishes was great. Something for everyone. We decided on a couple of burgers (they are 1/2lb!) meatloaf and the clam chowder. The food arrived in about 10 minutes. And looked incredibly good.....unfortunately one of the burgers fell onto the floor.....they immediately started cooking a replacement. The chowder was extremely good. The meatloaf was 2 thick slices and served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The burgers were thick and juice and cooked on their rotating grill in the window. They grind and form them by hand daily. The buns are thick and crusty, absolutely wonderful. Staff were attentive, coffee cups barely got half empty before being refilled and for less than $20 a person you really can't beat it for value and great food. We will be back! read more

Small, authentic old time and long time neighborhood haunt. It has a great friendly local feel and great food too. One of the best burgers in SF! I got the Best Burger (1/2-pound patty) with swiss, bacon, and caramelized onions. It was cooked perfectly (medium). The standout for me is their fries. I should've asked but I wouldn't be surprised if they are double-cooked fries so they get that amazing crunch. If I had to nitpick, I wish they had a brioche bun for their burgers but the bun that they use now holds its own pretty well. The service is pretty good and standard. I do like that there's an option to dine in and also just order and pick up. I love that they still use the rotating grill and the smell of grilling meats smells amazing once you walk in. I come here maybe once every 3 months but this last time just reminded of how good it actually is so I might go more soon. read more

We came here for takeout in the early days of the COVID crisis. Man, they had it down, they had blocked off most of the restaurant with a register table, all the staff were wearing masks and gloves, there was a touchless credit card payment, etc. A long long time ago (20 years maybe), this place was our "treat lunch spot" for some office buddies - we would hike up the hill rom the Advertising Ghetto for lunch. I remember that "Mo's breast" was super good and different, it came with a curry sauce (I remembered it as a curry peanut sauce..but I was wrong) The chicken sandwich comes with a Thai flavored (green?) curry sauce and the breast is HUGE. Coming from Denver - this place hit the spot! We ate around 11:30am on a Monday and it wasn't too crowded and the atmosphere was casual and interesting. Husband had ribs, they fell off the bone, and he said it was delicious. Son had a large burrito and loved it, along with a delicious strawberry milkshake. The portions are ample, the service is prompt, the flavors are rich and fresh and just as good if not better than they look in the photos. This place was everything we were expecting and hoping for. I got the French Omelette with spinach, scallions and goat cheese, which came with country potatoes and 4 slices of toast - plenty of food, enough for 2 meals. Just the right amount of spinach mixed throughout and enough goat cheese to keep each bite creamy and delicious. My partner said his was great too and paid special compliments to the potatoes.
