So, I have been on this edamame and miso soup craving for a couple of weeks. I ordered dinner from this place last night and had to share with the littles. Today, they are at school and I wanted more of the same. Well, a couple of items from my order didn't make it to my house. With a simple phone call they said they would deliver it to me. I bought a Groupon to this place and showed up to learn you can't use the Groupon on any RICE or their house specials (chicken teriyaki). What sushi restaurant excludes rice from being ordered??? You can only really get sushi with the Groupon. This is so cheap and it's a misrepresentation of the coupon. I already called Groupon and received a refund. The waiter said he's been trying to contact Groupon and make edits to include this clause with the coupon, but honestly that's not my problem. I bought the coupon and this wasn't anywhere in the terms. Also, I ordered vegetable tempura and it was fried pieces of cabbage and one fried slice of zucchini that they charge $7 for. Sushi was pretty good but my experience and the complete misrepresentation of the Groupon makes it a 1 Star read more

The sushi here was delicious! I had the groupon, therefore, let me give you the details about the groupon before you come. I purchased a groupon for $15 which gave me a credit of $25 at this location. Prior to coming in and using it, you HAVE to make a RESERVATION. This is a policy that groupon has, not the restaurant itself. The groupon is ONLY valid for DINE-IN dinner, therefore NOT valid for lunch or holidays. The groupon is limited for 1 visit, 1 table, and amongst 3 people. It is NOT valid towards alcohol purchases or ontop of other deals (other coupons or happy hour, etc.) From past reviews, it seems like this groupon could only be used for orders of sushi and not anything else. So when I came and ate, i only ordered sushi. The sushi was good! It wasn't the best sushi I have had, but it was worth it with the groupon by saving $10. The staff was amazing! We came in on a monday and it was pretty busy! About half of the restaurant was full. There were only two people working, the waiter and the chef. As my family (including my son visiting from Calif.) and I walked into the restaurant they make you really feel welcomed with lively greetings and my expectation level goes up. As your food arrives, you know your expectation was perfectly justified and enjoy absolutely delicious food dish after dish. The sashimi and sushi are fresh and tempura is crispy. One of my WORST experiences in life was going to this place! I was well-aware of what to expect because of the negative Yelp reviews, but tonight was the last day for my Groupon! So here we go.... Upon entering, the older Japanese lady, gave us (me, hubby and toddler) an unfriendly greeting. I chose our seats, while hubby got a high chair. Menus were placed on the table and we began perusing the items. The older Japanese lady approached us and asked if we made a reservation and I responded "Yes. I did. My name is Pam." Her unfriendliness quickly changed to pure nastiness. The indication of a "reservation" equates to "Groupon consumer". She brought us water and we continued to look at the menu. Several minutes, probably 6, went by. No waitress. I looked around to see what could be causing the slowness. There were only 4 other customers sitting at tables and 1 in the "waiting area". I sternly spoke, "we're ready to order". A new waitress arrived, a young American girl. She took our order; then, returned seconds later and asked if we made a reservation. I loudly said, "Yes we did. My name is Pam." Clearly, she didn't see the "reserved" sign on our table! We ordered 2 combination bento boxes. She took the menus. And, returned seconds later and indicated with the Groupon, no Bento boxes can be ordered. I asked for the menus and had her point to the items that were acceptable for the Groupon. We placed our order. By this time, hubby was pissed and was refusing to eat anything from this place! I wanted my sushi, so I went and sat at the counter and watched them make my rolls! As far as the miso soup is concerned...we didn't eat it! It wasn't made in our sight! Who knows what could have happened in the back! (Remember the movie, The Help??) The young American waitress came out AGAIN and said that with our $25 Groupon, the sub-total has to equal $25 and ours was only at $23. So...I ordered a house salad. Needless to say, we didn't eat the salad because it wasn't prepared in front of us! When the shrimp tempura came out, we were so disappointed. It tasted like fried shrimp we cook at home. There was no tempura sauce; it was lukewarm; just BAD. Hubby googled a picture and showed it to the chef. Hubby used to work in a real Japanese restaurant, so he knows what he's talking about. What we received looked nothing like "real shrimp Tempura". Hubby and chef had a minor verbal disagreement. I was like "who cares; leave it alone". The rolls alone are more than the $12 I paid for the Groupon! I ordered the spicy crab and shrimp tempura rolls. I can't say the spicy crab was totally bad, I just didn't like the taste; too spicy for me. The shrimp tempura roll was ok...I've had better. Fast forward, because by now, you should get the gist! We paid for our beer; took pictures and left. We had a horrible experience! We will NEVER GO BACK! I'm also going to report them to Groupon and the BBB. I totally don't understand why companies issue Groupons and then treat customers like s***! Groupons serve as a great trial mechanism, but for Sushi Motto, it serves as waste of money and time for the customer. Buyer BEWARE!!!! read more

Since moving from LA, I've been searching for a restaurant with a good chirashi bowl , but most places are stingy with their portions or their fish just doesn't taste fresh. I wanted to check this place out because I got a random Yelp notification for it, and it didn't disappoint! I went on a Monday night with a couple of friends, and there were only a couple of other groups there. We ordered several rolls and everything was great! The table's favorite was the ninja roll, and I personally really enjoyed my 911 roll. Went in for lunch a few weeks back. They have new owners and the food is fantastic. I sat at the sushi bar counter and the owner was making the sushi. He asked me what I liked and since I wasn't sure what I wanted he made me a dish. The really fun part was watching him use a blow torch to make a crust on the outside. I am creating this to warn everyone I don't usually write reviews... We had a family gathering here of 8 people. Six of the eight had stomach problems after eating at sushi motto. I was spared because the spicy tuna rolls I ordered looked suspicious to me and I decided to eat only fried ride. I should have warned the others, but didn't want to spoil the festive mood. I don't think it was a fluke, the staff did not look like they had much concern with cleanliness. The Korean woman manager was cleaning the tables and touching the dirty plates basically being a bus boy... then right after serving me my food, idk but I don't think they wash their hands after dealing with dirty dishes... I saw the fish and it was not fresh or preserved well. Just in a little glass display... I recommend please improve your business or your lackluster passion for this business will kill you... like your failed second location at the square... This is normally one of our favorite places to eat sushi. However last night the service was horrible. My adult children decided to join us for dinner and although we were on separate tickets, they would only allow us to use one Groupon. Only one waitressed working and all though she was not overwhelmed (only couple tables had people) no one ever received any drink refills and there were seven of us at the table. Upsides: Good service, personable chefs, and a relaxing atmosphere perfect for yourself, a couple, or a party. I highly recommend coming by for lunch and getting a bento/special, its a good sized meal. My favorite roll is the Too Much Love. There's relaxing music, a warm decor, two televisions (normally muted) if you want to watch a game. Downsides: Restrooms are single-person, so be prepared to wait your turn during peak hours.The "Featured Dishes" sign is in the back of the restaurant for some reason, but the food is often good enough to walk over there and see what's available anyway. If you are using a coupon or Groupon _read the fine print_ before trying to use them. We called ahead and asked if we could pick up food and use our Groupon in which the guy replied with "we do now except Groupon for pick up". I found this to be worded weird so I asked a second time to get the same response. So I ordered food. When we arrived the said we do not except it for pick up. And so I asked if we can just eat here in which they said no it's to late ( it was 45 minutes before they close). Then said you pay for this now or we are calling the cops. I responded "I can't pay for it with out the coupon" so they started saying "fuck you" and screaming at us. So I left in which they followed me to my car screaming and took pictures of the license plate. You can tell how rude this company is by how the owner response to every negative comment on yelp by calling people liars. His response was more lies as seen on all the other negative reviews. We never ate the food so there is no legal action that could be taken. I also never said "your shitty restaurant". There is so much that is a lie on the response. Trust me this place might be good if there isn't a conflict but with the smallest conflict the owner will start yelling at you. Just look at any one star review on here. read more

I decided to try the Poke Bowl because I've had such a craving and haven't eaten one in a long while. After ordering and eating their Poke Salmon Bowl. I wish I had an impossible whopper from Burger King instead. The best part of the Poke Salmon Bowl is the worst of an impossible whopper. That whopper traumatized me and I thought I've hit rock bottom the moment I bit right into it's rubbish, rubbery patty. But after experiencing the Salmon bowl, a single tear rolled down my cheek. The amount of fried garlic crisps they put in is a weak attempt to make up for the lack of texture. Ironically, Salmon is such a rare find in my bowl. I had to dig deeper than a pirate seeking for some long lost treasure, just to find 8 pieces of salmon. This shabby bowl come with 8 salmon, 50% rice filling, 15% seaweed, and 30% garlic. Tried to use a Groupon only to be told that in order to use it I have to make reservations. I would understand if the place was busy but we are one of two tables on a Wednesday night. The food was ok and the service was great but after refusing to use another form of payment the manager called the police. We are currently waiting for the police to come sort this out and let me use what I already spent money on. I can't recommend a place that calls the police on paying customers. Update: after speaking to others of this incident I have been told that the portion sizes for someone who uses Groupon are smaller than normal. If this is the case it would make sense why they would want a reservation, in order to adjust portion size. This is completely dishonest and not acceptable. I will be filing a complaint with Groupon, if a deal is posted as x amount charged for x amount of value then it should reflect that. I will continue to tell people on social media and in person of this issue. This could have been resolved quickly and painlessly but the management chose to not be understanding and rude.
