My second time coming to this place was awful. My drink which was a chai tea latte was gross and my panini wasn't flavorful nor did it look to appetizing. This makes me so sad I invited a friend here because I remember my first time there was soooooo good I just knew they wouldn't disappoint. After ordering the workers rushed to making my food leaving me there with a line behind me to pay. I should mention it was about 75 degrees outside so you should know the inside didn't feel to nice. I felt cramped in the line all while waiting for my order and to pay. After I received my panini I knew I wouldn't return. I mean really people who messes up a panini?. There was no effort it honestly felt disrespectful. I felt bothered and the workers kept looking at me as if I had done something. I was just simply trying to have a nice meet up for breakfast with my friend and this place was a complete mistake. When me and my friend were leaving some girl rushed out the door to collect our cups before we could even throw them away. I felt rushed and not wanted. I'm not sure if these are new hires or just workers who don't want to do there job. I'm truly disappointed!!! read more

Came in after seeing rave yelp reviews and I left with the smoothest cup of coffee I had in a while. As soon as I walked in, John and Danielle, the owners of this coffee shop, greeted me with such happiness and enthusiasm that it made me smile. John explained what he was doing the whole time and brewed me a solid cup of coffee. It's hard to find coffee done right and I'm surprised to find it at this small shop in Martinez. I work nearby once a week so I'll try to stop by every time I'm in the area. They've only been open for three months - support a local business and help this guy's dream come true! I think this might be the best coffee shop experience I've ever had. I interacted with two folks who appeared to be brothers working behind the counter. I love this coffee joint. Please skip the Starbucks in town and head here. You have friendlier staff and much better coffee. And it's less expensive than at the larger chains. It's a family-run store and you can tell that they truly care about their customers. I call them my lucky charms because every time I go in there, something great happens later. I visited them the morning that I landed an interview for my new job and the morning of the day I got engaged. I'm living out of the area now (North Bay) but I always make a point of visiting Mountain Grounds when I come home to visit my parents. Amazing Coffee! I came here when visiting my mom in Martinez and was so impressed. I had the pumpkin spice latte and it no hands down was better then Starbucks and cheaper too. It was like I literally was eating pumpkin pie just enough spice and not to sweet with that rich coffee flavor. The atmosphere was so down home and comforting. Its a family run business and I really enjoyed the son and father they were nice and welcoming. They have cards you can stamp to get a free coffee. Just discovered they had opened next to Subway. I caught wind that they might be opening from my co-worker months ago. Just met the owner, very friendly and hospitable. Not only do they fill the void of lack of coffee on Alhambra, but they offer single cup coffee. I believe that was the term used. They made my one cup of coffee there on the spot, not out of an airpot. Now for the verdict... This may be the best coffee I have had. So tasty without that bitter aftertaste that I often find with Starbucks. Tried their blueberry muffin which they source from a local bakery and that too was great. This is the best coffee yet! Family-owned business that has newly opened. The only Coffee Shop on a busy street, Alhambra Avenue, that is right off Hwy 4 freeway. The folks working there are soooo friendly. Great service. You can text your order in and they will have it ready for you when you get there! They can make any type of coffee you want.. plus more! I'm not a big coffee fan, but I love hot chocolate. For the most part I wasn't expecting much because I was only getting a hot chocolate. But when I tasted it, man was I blown away. Martinez has plentiful Starbucks locations per capita, but until now, has seriously lacked options when it comes to independent coffee shops. As a coffee lover, this is why I was extremely pleased to see an indie coffee shop spring up in our fair city of Martinez. Aside from knowing that you are supporting a local, family run business, when you order here, you also get high quality coffee/tea/smoothies/pastries and super friendly service to boot. The father and two sons who run the place will gladly make pretty much any espresso drink you can think of, but a cup of their chemex-brewed coffee is well worth the few-minute wait. Welcome to Martinez! Stumbled upon this place yesterday. Thought about the coffee all day. Got up EARLY and drove out of my way to get more. Mentioned it to my neighbor...apparently she has been hooked for weeks. The family that owns it is beyond nice. I'm already thinking about tomorrows cup. I will be changing my route into work to make sure I start my day with the BEST coffee ever and friendly down home smiles. BTW- they truly know the art of coffee. Thus Mountain Grounds is my salvation. The coffee is so good here. My usaul is an iced coffee with a shot or two of expresso, and when I drink it, I experience two wonderful sensations: the taste is phenominal and unparralled by chain stores. No more Starbucks for me. Tried their coffee for the first time today. Cute coffee place with a few tables inside. I had a mug of Cappuccino and egg muffin with sausage and avocado. The flavor of freshly roasted beans tasted amazing. Strong and robust. The sandwich was flavorful and the eggs are fresh not the frozen precooked. I reccomend: the Kochere pour over and get it to stay so you can chat with the owners, John and Danielle and get some coffee knowledge! This place has changed coffee for me forever. I used to pop a pod in the Keurig and then pour in the sugar and cream, but one cup from MG changed that. After some coffee education from. John and the MG crew, I love the pure unadulterated awesomeness of what they so lovingly pour in their shop. Coffee is such a "thing" these days and I have been to other spots that feel uber pretentious and too cool for me, but not MG. This place is just good honest coffee, made by good honest and hard working people who are building something special in our little old town. It's places like these that drive me to get on here and actually right a review, Martinez is trying real hard to become a designation East Bay town and it won't get there without more businesses like these with the type of ownership they have start to buck the trend that Martinez has. They open on holidays and function later than other smaller coffee shops on Main. And they do all sorts of stuff to build community from book nights to latte art class.
