It's been years since I've tried Mountain Mike's Pizza (MMP) and so I thought I'd give them another try. It's exactly how I remembered MMP. It must be an acquired taste because they have been in business for years now. It was a Wednesday evening and they had a buffet going on. Salad bar was under par as certain items weren't refilled and maintained. There was no lettuce! Pizzas offered weren't appealing. Crust seems to be on the dry side, but I believe it is a preference for some. Part of their buffet offerings were advertised with breadsticks, but they were no where in sight. I made the unfortunate mistake of not checking my food before I left. Ordered through the phone and clearly asked for a small size pepperoni and black olive pizza. When I got home I realized my pizza had only black olives on it which is very upsetting because the pepperoni is the only reason I go to mountain mikes. I just moved closer to this location but I will definitely drive out of my way to go to the Sonoma blvd location. A bit upsetting that I paid over $16 dollars for small pizza with just olives. I also don't think it's very sanitary to write on the inside of my pizza box with a marker even though it says enjoy. As sad as it was I did eat it because I'm not driving back and risking someone doing something to the next one. Lesson learned, Sonoma blvd or just go to Napolis in my opinion. So, we decided on pizza for dinner. Called to pick it up, was immediately put on hold. Was on hold for 10 min (I looked at the timer on my screen), hung up & called back. I figured they might've forgotten me? When k called back, was placed on hold again, this time for 4 minutes. I used a coupon, $15.99+tax for one large one topping pizza. Pepperoni. Should be ready in 35-45 min. Ok with that. Picked up our pizza, got home and we were ready to grub. First bite? YUCK DRY PIZZA. It really lacked sauce. Haven't been here in 4-5 months,but man what a difference! My kids really like this place (they like the spicy pepperoni) but the last time we were here turned us off a bit. We went there Sunday night at about 7:30 pm. I understand some employees might countdown to go home at that time but the place is supposed to be open until 9 and they must provide a good service until they are open. The girl was not friendly and welcome at all. She, who we barely heard her voice, just wanted to finish our order and go home. She even didn't offer us a cup for water. The atmosphere was not welcome and friendly. It was our first time there. We ordered a medium pizza which was not fresh. Plus, when you pay 20 bucks for a medium pizza you'd like something different from Dominoes or pizza hut but we couldn't finish it because of low quality. The young woman working the cash register tonight was so weird! She had the most stand offish customer service ever. Every time I said anything she looked at me strangely and paused then said "what?" I speak loud enough, everyone tells me my voice is very loud. So why couldn't she understand me? Then at one point while we were dining in, the other girl working the back answered the phone and yelled and asked her if they had any specials and she says "yes something something off of any large pizza." Then my husband and I said "hey could that deal have applied to us?" Then she goes (again) "what?" And we said "don't worry bout it, we were just wondering if we could have gotten that deal." I love mountain mikes ! I don't understand why they have such a low score on here. My fiancé and I order delivery from here all the time and the pizza is always amazing and delicious! It's a little more expensive than dominoes or Pizza Hut, but well worth it! And it's cheaper than Pacifica or round table which used to be our go to. Now this has become our new go-to pizza spot! I can't speak for the eating in or eating on location experience, but for delivery we're always satisfied with the quality and delivery time. Round table is average of 2-3 hours every time !!!! Its really good and pretty fresh (although I can definitely tell when the delivery has been sitting for a while and thats not acceptable) ... remove a star... Generally don't get in the 45 minute delivery window by acceptable standards of a few minutes either way... Last night took 1 hour 10 minutes... remove a star... I like Mike's for a lot of reasons, the biggest being that they have great pizza and decent prices. Tuesday night here is 40% off any pizza until closing. So I got an Everest, which is my favorite. Loaded with toppings and a gazillion calories, this will ruin any diet imaginable. They now have gluten-free crust for the anti-yummy food crowd out there. Wednesday is the buffet. I am astonished by how unprofessionally this location is ran. We called in and couldn't get delivery. The girl said that they weren't accepting delivery orders due to staffing and the availability of only one driver. (Management issue) Okay, we will pick it up. This is what I observed: We walk into an absolutely dark establishment. Lights were shut off- inside and out with the exception of the kitchen area. It was almost as if to deter customers from coming in. It was 8:05, but they close at 9. As a business owner myself, I immediately thought this owner is losing potential money and business from this tactic. Napkins were sprawled all over the floor, near entry, an opened Sweet and Sour sauce from Mc D's also stuck to floor. 3 tables full of plates and cups from previous customers cluttered the tables that are immediately seen by customers entering. The place was empty. How did the staff not think to tidy up? Door dash guy weasels his way in front of me to deliver three Jamba Juice smoothies to the apparent three workers of the eve. The customers ahead of us didn't have their call in ready. The system apparently was not printing their tickets. Therefore, orders were not prepared. Guy in front orders a beer. It took nearly three minutes for the girl to fill this beer. It was all foam. She kept pouring and dumping, pouring and dumping. Leads me to believe their taps were not at an accurate temp. Phew.... finally it's our turn. Our order is ready. It's warm and the pizza was just fine. Chicken wings were cold but not a huge deal. My concerns are how off putting this establishment is. Spoke to employees and they stated they cook gluten free pizzas on parchment paper ! Even though it's a shared kitchen cooking it on the parchment makes my life so much easier with having gluten free options ! Family member doesn't eat out too much because of having celiac but he does not get sick from eating here ! So pleased with the service ! I never write reviews because as long as service is average or above I am completely satisfied. Last night my pregnant wife and I, whom are fans of Mountain Mike's, lost all faith in this franchise. Unbelievably bad service for a business type that thrives on return customers. My wife had a craving for the chicken garlic pizza so we ordered at 6:15 and the young woman said it would be 45 minutes so we closed out the conversation with my expectation being it would be delivered around 7pm. And with pizza delivery there is always a margin for error. After waiting an hour, I received a call from the driver stating he couldn't find my address. The unfortunate part is we are in the Benicia Mountain Mike's system... So another 15 minutes goes by and I am assuming he'd come straight away as my pregnant wife is getting a little antsy and so am I. I call and speak to the young woman and she says he'll be there. I then ask if my pizza and wings will still be warm since it has now been close to an hour and a half since my order and most likely an hour since our pizza came out of the oven. She then does not put me on hold and I can hear her speaking to management. While I cannot quite make out what management is saying she comes back on the phone and says she is really sorry the delivery man will be there. She, now speaking for management, does not provide any solution but leaves me with the poor expectation that I will be receiving a cold pizza and hour late. I cancel the delivery as now I am going to run out for hot McDonalds!? As my wife and I leave the house the delivery man shows up... In the end I did try Gilroy Garlic Fries and will no longer eat at this Mountain Mike's establishment in hopes that new ownership or even management takes over someday. A simple pizza, a frustrating interaction that ended up in a McDonanld's meal. Do what you want with my commentary because I know Mountain Mike's won't do anything! read more

Eating here is a risk of food poisoning and the board of health needs to look into this place. Items in the salad bar were not looking fresh. The beets had a white coating which means they have spoiled. Beans and bean salads were also sludgy. Chicken on the pizza was also questionable. New plates are not provided at the buffet which is mandatory by food safety standards in order to avoid cross contamination. In Benicia CA Mountain Mike's offers an "all you can eat" Wednesday night pizza and salad special for around $10 per person, if you take the drink option all you can drink (soft drinks) too. They serve wine and beer there but not included in the offer. Come in Wednesday for lunch, if you want to save 3 buckaroos off the Wednesday dinner all you can eat price. Now if only someone was at the front counter when a customer walks in so we know the place is open. No one was there and they were at least 10 minutes late with the all you can eat pizzas. The feeling I got from that is that they really do not give a bleep. So..what the heck I thought it might be good to try. I noticed that they have a sign (at least 3 copies) of a printed out statement that if anyone is dissatisfied they want to know about it (o-o I came with my New Yorker friend). Sssooo...well..first of all the salad bar is ...like not so ...well kind of ..puny. Not HORRIBLE, that's what I will say okay? It's not horribly horrible, not fresh and kind of over chopped, like the pieces are tiny and appear to have been sitting. Other than that... The pizza offering was three different types of pizzas, chicken, jalepeno and cheese and pepperoni. There is also a sweet cinnamon bread but here is the thing. It is obvious that the pizza they offer for the "all you can eat" is not the same pizza you will get if you go ahead and order a pizza. The pizza you get in the all you can eat has marked less cheese, toppings I mean MARKEDLY less. I did not enjoy it much to be honest but hey it was cheap and knew I was going to write and let you all know the score (heeee). Okay so I was done, and ready to go. My friend said he wanted to ask about why the "pies" offered at the all you can eat were different than the ones two other customers ordered from the menu, so after I implored him to just decide this is no Napoli and learn a lesson he just could not leave without speaking to management. We walked out but he went back inside and asked that question. The store manager said that it is true the pies are different and that is because the owner of that franchise location instructed them to put far less toppings and cheese on the pizza offered at the all you can eat bar than on the other pies. ::crickets:: No offer to rectify, no offer to give a refund or anything. um...since we were the only people in there I guess that is not the best strategy. I would think you want to blow your customers away so they will come back ...but then again I am only a customer what the hecky heck do I know (acute sarcasm). So if you only have 10 bucks and you are stranded in Benicia on a wednesday evening between 5 and 8 and you are 9 months pregnant with a stiff craving for pizza MAYBE you would go in there MAYBE. I've been here twice and will not come here again. Mt Mike's is a chain and this location is very disorganized and is dirty. Mt Mike's generally is over priced for what you get. Round Table is better. If you are in Benica/Vallejo area, go to Pizza Pirate or Napoli's (depends upon type of Pizza you like). Title: Compassionate Service Mountain Mikes Pizza Benicia On New Year's Eve my pregnant friend craved Hawaiian Pizza. We call the Vallejo location and ordered a meal for pick-up. The Vallejo location got the order wrong, argued with us, and refused to fix the mistake they made. After several repeat telephone calls and being hung up on our pregnant friend was becoming very upset. So another friend called the Mountain Mikes location in Benicia to see if they had the same owner/manager so we could complain. The Benicia location employees where very sympathetic and understanding to our situation; they apologized for the behavior of the first location and gave us a free small Hawaiian pizza for my pregnant friend. I was curious to check this place out, because so many people like it (i.e, teenagers.) I ordered the veggie pizza and it took FOREVER for it to come to my table. Seriously, in the time it would have taken me to do two crossword puzzles, I was waiting for my pizza. The waiters kept reassuring that it would come, but I was still waiting. Finally, the pizza arrived and it was decent, but I've had much better. Didnt even know we had Mountain Mikes in Benicia. Came in with the fams last night to get out of the usual Pizza Pirate we usually go to. Pizza was good and the crust is what made it. We ordered half cheese and half chicken garlic somethin... Im a sucker for properly mixed fountain drinks and the Diet Pepsi was mixed just right! Service was normal. So I was hungry. It was a Wednesday, around 4:35 PM when we got there. We waited 25 minutes to catch the buffet. $6.99 for all you can eat open salad bar/pizza/desserts. PROS: They served different varieties of pizza (not just the ordinary cheese pepperoni or cheese only) from Hawaiian, Pepperoni pizza, Cheese pizza, Sausage pizza and even my favorite-- Garlic Chicken with tomatoes. The bread sticks were also good as well. CONS: My supposed favorite, the Garlic Chicken pizza was TOO salty. They shouldn't have put bacon on it (took it off eventually). Overall, it's not the greatest pizza I've ever had, but you do get your money's worth (rating on buffet day only) and can work around it.
