The workers here are great and really nice. We came by after they closed (probably 1:30am, I was too tipsy to remember) because we were trying to sober up and get something to snack on and drink some water. They very well could have told us they were closed and to go away but they let us sit inside for a few minutes to sip our waters and chatted with us. Them treating us this nicely at the end of their day and shift when they probably want to clean up and go home says something about them as kind and compassionate people. Rather than ordering one pie at a take-out pizzeria, sitting at an all-you-can eat offers more variety -- I enjoy a combination style and a hawaiian (for the pineapples), and I could have ordered a vegetarian pizza (or anything else as offered multiple times by manager Dave) for the buffet as well. But I found myself eating all of the fresh cucumbers of the salad bar, so I skipped the carbs and the baking and had it raw like nature intended. $15 buffet including a soda is reasonable for dine-in, and the ambience is welcoming, clean, and casual. And now that street parking has been eliminated in this section of B Street, the walking along the painted street helps with digestion and a feeling of satisfaction of a lunch well enjoyed. read more

Here's the thing about pizza places. there's not that much difference between them. i would be hard pressed in a blind folded test to tell the difference between Mt. Mikes and Round Table pizza. Not saying these options are good they are, but for a pizza place to get 5 stars, they need to differentiate themselves from the pack. Premier Pizza in San Jose does that. Had a GREAT pizza & experience at the new Mountain Mike's in Downtown San Mateo! The pizza is classic deliciousness! The pepperoni is crisp on the edges and their crust & sauce, classic! Also, they have a large selection of beers & cider on tap! I ordered by calling in my pizza for pickup. When I got there, my pizza had 5 more mins so I ordered a delicious cold cider and as I was paying, my pizza was ready! I sat down, enjoyed my cider and pizza since alcohol has to be consumed on-site. There are two big screen TVs (one with music) and I watched Serena's final match! Really nice, new restaurant! I grew up going to Mountain Mikes in San Carlos. When I saw they were opening in San Mateo I was ecstatic. Unfortunately my two experiences here have been anything but good. The first time I ordered two pizzas, One small BBQ chicken and a large pepperoni. When I got there they gave me the opposite of the two. And if you know mountain mikes you know you want that iconic small pepperoni so this was very disappointing. The second time I called to place my order then after I said what I wanted I said I had a coupon and she told me it was too late to add the coupon. I asked if she could cancel my order and start again. She said no. Also both times I felt very unwelcome and like I was bothering them. Also quality of the pizza is definitely not what it used to be. Super disappointed and won't be going back. :( read more

You'd think I'd be writing a review about the pizza, but I'm not. Unfortunately, it's about the service or lack of. I came In with a class of special needs students & one specifically in a wheelchair, so he couldn't go up the steps. We asked the employee to help us use the wheelchair lift, but either he didn't know how to use it or it didn't work. Instead, he told us to go back outside, around the block, & to the back of the restaurant to come in. It was pouring rain outside!!!! The students still ate there, but at no time during that hour & a half did anyone come out to try & figure the lift out. You would think they'd be considerate enough to at least try before we left, but nothing! No effort, no consideration, no "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Instead, 3 of them just stood behind the counter with their arms crossed watching our staff manually transfer the student! Shame on your staff! Management, please educate your staff to PLUG IN the lift, learn to use it, or put in a ramp so they don't have a disgusted look on their face when a person with disability or their helper asks to use it. I advocate for all people with disability & this is unacceptable. Why even have it in the restaurant if it can't be used? It's not decoration. Fix the problem & fix your employees approach to different situations. read more

We were so excited when this Mountain Mike's location popped up on B street in SM. It has been our go to for all of our Pizza nights, their pizza always arrives early, piping hot and fresh. When we were looking for somewhere local to host our son's basketball team we gave them a call and Gagan was more than thrilled to accommodate our small basketball team on Sunday night. This restaurant is a much needed bright light on the street. The folks here really care about their customers. They go above and beyond. I don't think I've ever seen a pizza come out so fast. We opted for a large- half cheese and half what's the name of the other half of chicken club. We also enjoyed the salad bar and a fountain soda. did you know they've got promotions throughout the week and tonight (Tuesday) we happen to get to enjoy 40% off our large pizza! SCORE!!
