OMG! The size of that scone!!! I was looking so forward to good eats when we ate here today based upon reviews and the goodies that smile at you as you walk in. And then it went downhill. This is a conflicted 3stars because although the food was tasty the service made the meal LESS tasty. Apparently we got hit by a combo of a newbie server and them being up to their eyeballs in people. But if the server was that new perhaps some help with a mentor would've helped the person. We got our drinks fairly quickly after being seated but hubs had to ask three times for a straw for his drink and the milk for my coffee? There was just barely enough in the container for my coffee and I had to ask for a spoon. Nothing like stirring your coffee with a fork. If I had known there was a refill station around the corner I wouldn't have even bothered with the server. But what really tore it was when we saw everyone else getting their meal in a timely enough manner for the amount of people they had in there (including a table next to us who sat down some time after us but got their food BEFORE us). Hubs got his salad but I didn't get mine; then server asks me if I wanted mine before my entree - well, yeah! Then we waited and waited and waited until I was ticked and we flagged down server and asked what was the status of our food? Server goes off to check but guess what? All of a sudden someone else brings out our food and it was warm but not hot. And hubs' spatzel was cold!!! This led us to believe that our food had been sitting waiting for someone to come and bring it to us for some time. Complained to manager who apologized about newbie and their being so crowded and took some off our bill but the experience left us wanting to just get out of there and bypass those yummy looking deserts. Again, the food was tasty even if parts of it weren't the right temperature and our server was in over their head. If service had been better this would've been much higher than a just barely 3star. We will probably go back but not sure when. read more

I went there for afternoon tea once for my birthday and it was lovely, the service was good (we never had to ask for one thing and the server kept the hot water flowing.) A friend of mine had never done one before so I called 48 hours ahead (their website says they need 24 hours notice.) I asked to schedule an afternoon tea and when I told the man when I wanted to do he said "oh no, we can't do it THIS Thursday!" (This was in the Spring) I told him I was confused, the website said 24 hours notice and he said they were too busy that day to do it. If that's the case, you might want to note that 2-3 days notice is more appropriate. I waited quite a few months to try to schedule again as that left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. This time I scheduled a week out and there was no problem with the day I chose. However, the service was skittish at best. She delivered our food before we even gave our tea order so we had to sit and let it steep for almost 10 minutes because the water wasn't hot enough. We had to ask for the honey and creamer we were told we'd get and I had to get up to flag her down. We saw her once after our food was delivered and I had to wave her down to refill our water. (My husband and I got 4 pots of tea each the first time and we barely got two this visit.) The scones were either stale or overbaked and hard. We had to put quite a bit of cream and jam on top to cover it up. I was also disappointed to see their signature marzipan peach that we each got at my first tea is no longer included in the tea. They swapped it out for a dry and tasteless, in comparison, slice of bread of some sort. We had to pile the jam and cream on that too. I asked for a peach to split and paid extra for it just so she could try it. So if I'm comparing the two experiences, the quality on both service and food has gone way downhill where afternoon tea is concerned and not just the service but quality of food. Everything from food to tea was lukewarm. Not to mention we felt completely rushed by the rest of the staff to leave. They kept walking by and looking at us as we were talking and to the point I asked if they were closing soon about the fifth time they did it. She said they closed at 5pm and it wasn't even 4pm yet! (This was a different employee by the way, not our server, she left so we were never tended to the rest of the time.) When we got up to leave 20 minutes later at 4:15pm, all of the bar stools were on the bar up front and they had been removing rugs beside us as we talked which, frankly, was rude. They still had 45 minutes left of business!! When we left and said how weird it was they were rushing us out, a whole family was coming in so I can only imagine if they were staying how they felt. I'm really disappointed that this was my friends first impression of afternoon tea given my expectation from the previous experience a year ago. I love afternoon tea and have been to many of them in many cities so I know how they should be. While this is the closest place to me, I think that might've been my last at Mozarts. Sad. read more

I'm really surprised about some of the negative reviews on here. I absolutely loved the the atmosphere, interior decor, and especially the food! We came for brunch on a Saturday and I had the smoked salmon sandwich on European rye bread and a large cafe latte. It was excellent. The other dishes at my table were the daily special - also a smoked salmon plate with potatoes and eggs- and a quiche. All four of us really enjoyed it. I will definitely come back! read more

Mozart was quite possibly the BEST restaurant we went to in Columbus. We went there for breakfast. Their breakfast pastries were fresh and delicious. We ordered an Almond Croissant. It was flaky with generous sprinkles of almonds and a delicious almond spread. Their scones were huge! I ordered a Walnut Cranberry scones and was in heaven! The scones were moist and flavorful. I totally did not need butter or jam. This was as far as you can get from the dry scones that Starbucks serves. Their breakfast menu was extensive and quite impressive. I ordered a spinach omelet and was very pleased to see that it was cooked beautifully. Kids had their own special menu. The owner thoughtfully had a section filled with Legos and books for kids as they waited for their food. Wonderful wonderful place! We will definitely be back!! read more

We truly enjoyed our dinner at Mozart's. Everything we ordered was excellent and the service was perfect. Two of our threesome started with a cup of the Hungarian Goulash, and the third had Cream of Mushroom Soup. The goulash was richly flavored with a tiny but welcome bite that never distracted from the taste. The mushroom soup was rich without being too thick and had a hint of something (sherry?) that made it truly outstanding. We ordered three different entrees; all three are highly recommended. The Chicken Paprikash was tender and extremely tasty. The Beef Stroganoff was also tender and richly flavored. Both dishes' accompanying Spatzle was a perfect complement. The Ham Gorgonzola Spatzle was equally enjoyable: tasty without being overspiced. While we hardly had room for dessert, the wide array of European Tortes and Cakes was too enticing to bypass. The Apple Strudel was delicately delicious, and the Mozart Torte was equally enjoyable. The service was attentive without being smothering. Wow. What a disappointment! We looked forward to eating at Mozarts and supporting the local owned business. We went for Sunday brunch. Even though the building had been renovated the set-up of the dining space was awkward and the lighting was even worse. The space and lighting is the least of their problems. After struggling with what to order from the limited menu, i ended up with the cheese omelet. I didnt know a cheese omelet could be screwed up. There was 4x the amount of cheese that was needed and because there was so much cheese the omelet was uncooked on the inside. The breakfast potatoes were sauteed, cold and bland. Now Mozart's is known for their desserts, you can't miss them when you walk by the case when you enter and are seated for a meal, you're practically salivating for dessert, but was there for breakfast. I met friend before going to Winterfair art show a few weeks ago for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We both selected omelettes for our breakfast - I went with the Spring Allegro with zucchini, spinach and tomato and my friend tried the Clair du Lune with red skin mashed potatoes, spinach and feta. Both arrived quickly within minutes of ordering from the kitchen and served hot with side of wheat bread. We did have to ask for butter & server also brought out a raspberry jam with the butter surprise treat. Both of the omelettes were good, I wish I had ordered a side of breakfast potatoes - I saw a nearby table enjoying them. Good food, quick service, I loved the ambience & they had a gentleman playing a grand piano, wonderful to hear on a Saturday winter morning. Meh-zarts: We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It's just a block from our house, so we were excited to have a new place so close. They have done a great job in renovating the building, but they have made some seriously strange layout and decorating decisions. The pastry counter dominated the entry area, but there are tables lined alone the opposite side. There are then a few separated dining areas and a small outdoor patio. Although there were 8, yes 8 people in the counter area, we had to wait to be seated while the 9th person was failing to answer questions to another "customer". We were then seated within 2ft of the piano even though there was only 1 other table of guests in the section, and an entire dining room adjacent. None of this was really that annoying; it's just a sign of a very under-experienced staff. I also found it odd that there were no less than 9 people working the front of the house and there were only 3-4 tables being served at any point we were there. Anyway, on to the food. I ordered the veil schnitzel sandwich. The bread was excellent, as was the veal cutlet. It was dressed with a pathetic pale, flavorless slice of tomato, onion and lettuce. This sandwich really could have been a winner, but the toppings were a complete after-thought. Speaking of afterthoughts, the sandwich was served with a side of bargain food-supplier potato chips. WTF? A house side of any sort would be a nice addition, or, at least better chips. Back to the service. The waitress, who was polite, was very inexperienced. She came to the table often, but didn't refill drinks. My experience at Mozarts was by no means bad. It was very disappointing however. I hope this experience was merely a function of opening a new restaurant. On a positive note, BRAVO to whomever created the wine list. It is FULL of very well selected wines at FANTASTIC prices. If nothing else, I will be visiting Mozarts to enjoy their wine list. And, of course their pastry selection and quality is really top notch. Nothing to complain about there. read more

We finally scooted our butts over to Mozart's for their brunch and was grossly let down. Bf ordered a breakfast sandwich, I ordered a smoke salmon sandwich. Our coffee was hazelnut flavored and slimy tasting. My sandwich was inoffensive, basically a lox sandwich, can't mess that up. Bf's breakfast sandwich though, was so incredibly bland. The cheese? Can't taste it. The egg? Taste was not found. The sausage patty was a sad lifeless gray disc - frozen heat 'n serves taste like gold compared to that sad little guy. I planned a surprise 60th birthday party in May at Mozart's for my dad. Everything was wonderful. The set up was very cute. We had a very nice room in the back to make the surprise even more special. The food was good and the service was wonderful. Thanks to Janelle for all her assistance in planning this event. I would def go back to visit or plan another party. We came here for my little brother's birthday. It's was very nice. The crowd is a mix of younger locals and older regulars. This would be perfect for a date though. I don't know if it's every night but there was a live pianist playing top 40 hits from the 70s and 80s; you know... Chicago, Billy Joel, Journey. The food was pretty good. I had the Wiener schnitzel. I've never had it before so I have no frame of reference but it was similar to a country fried steak. They also have a bakery out front. I had my baby shower here and although the venue itself is beautiful the service was subpar. We couldn't find our hostess half the time, so my guests served themselves tea and water. The canapés were not fresh, and no accommodation was made for the grossly overpaid guest list. I paid two weeks in advance per contract but 14 guests were unable to attend. No courtesy was made to accommodate that amount, I would suggest considering other places on High st that have you finish payment the day of the event according to how many guests show up and actually get served. My party was also referred to several times by wait staff as "these people". I was very disappointed with the service received. read more

Terrible service! You are paying more for the service and experience here than you are for anything else. I did not get what I paid for here. We had to go find someone to help us anytime we needed something. The server said they would be around to help us, but never came back in their own. At one point after finding them and asking for a new spoon and more tea, we waited the entire time and nobody ever brought it out to us. Tried to see the positive in everything during my first and only visit here. The location is great - it's a shame everything else is not. You would think with such a limited dinner menu, they would have it perfected...but it is the opposite. The quality of the food is low. You could tell that nothing was made fresh. Salad was stale, everything was dry and could tell it was chopped up days ago. Entrees came out in 5 minutes, so it's pretty apparent they were sitting in the back ready to go. I noticed that other tables received their dinner in no time as well. The food lacked flavor and quality. Ordered dessert to go as a saving grace- how can you screw up chocolate cake? Well apparently you can. Flavorless and dry. Save your money. I hate giving this kind of review to a family owned establishment but I expect much higher quality for the price. First time today at new Mozart's and it was great. Wonderful new place with lots of room. We loved the old Mozart's, but it was CROWDED!. This is 4x bigger, with plenty of space. New additions to menu make it better for a larger variety of meals. Also, oodles of parking, another problem at the old restaurant. Pleasant desserts I was driving on High street and noticed Mozart's so pulled in for dessert. The display case is right on your left when you come in. Plenty of them looked tasty, but I decided on the key lime pie and fruit tart. The fruit tart was pretty good. I can't say it wow'd me but it did have good notes and fresh fruit. I agree with an earlier reviewer who said that there are some very odd design choices; the building itself is beautiful, and the wood molding is nicely restored. But the floor is straight out of an MCL Cafeteria, and there are even some rips in the linoleum. The paintings and dried flowers have a somewhat folksy but ultimately old-fashioned quality. Which is probably why the place was CRAWLING with senior citizens. Nothing wrong with that, but be prepared for the same kind of ambiance you'd get at Windward Passage. It is definitely an older crowd. On to the food: the meat items are consistently good (Schnitzel was tender and crispy on the outside), as are the carbs (great Spaetzle). But the vegetables (salads, lettuce and tomatoes on sandwiches) are alarmingly anemic. Service: Our waiter was inexperienced, bordering on incompetent, but very eager to please. The owner was walking around checking to make sure the wait staff was doing a good job, so this issue may work itself out with time. read more

Mozart's is a nice place for pastries. Their price point is about on par with other bakeries. They are always friendly when we come in to pick up a few items. This is my issue with Mozart's. When I was a little girl, my mom would take me to a bakery in the short north called Giantonios. Mozart's first location was in the old Giantonios location. From what we were told when Mozart's first came here, they had bought the cream horn recipe from the owners of Giantonios. We were ecstatic since these were the pastries that always brought us to Giantonios! At first things were great. Mozart's was making the large size cream horns that we had loved for so many years! Then they had three sizes: small, medium and large. Even better! Now, they only have the small and they aren't loaded with the amount of cream that they were loaded with when Giantonios had the recipe. Also, a few times now I have bought some of the small cream horns and the cream doesn't go all the way through. It's a big disappointment. I contacted Mozart's through email a few years ago, because I wanted to put in a special order for my mom for the large cream horns to surprise her on her birthday. They said they couldn't do that. Highly disappointing. My mom loves those large cream horns so much that when they were coming from Giantonios when I was a child, and we had moved to California, my aunt brought out a suitcase full of them for my mom! So, not being able to get a special order for these, even though Mozart's has made this size in the past, was very sad. They didn't even want to help a customer who only goes to them for this specific pastry. I thought they did custom orders but apparently I was wrong. That instance put a bad taste in my mouth and we now only go to Mozart's once or twice a year. If anyone has the recipe for these cream horns, I would love to have it! read more

Afternoon tea was beyond what I had expected. Plenty of spaces to park and plenty of room in the restaurant. I have done afternoon teas in other local location but Mozart's is worth the feedback. Customer service was attentive. Not over bearing. I didn't feel rushed to eat my meal while enjoying my friends. I ordered the quiche with my afternoon. Tea. The slice is of good proportion. Loose leaf teas are very smooth to drink. I will definitely go back and it helps that the restaurant stays open late. I forgot to mention the deserts. I have stopped by the new Mozart's location a handful of times, but only to pick up some delicious sweets to take home from their case up front. Finally, I was able to stop by for a sit down lunch. I think the new place is great and is perfect for Mozart's and I think it finally encompasses what the owners truly visioned, but could not achieve in the previous smaller space. They kept the decor pretty simple with darker more subtle tones and lower lighting for a taste of slightly refined ambiance. Normally I hit up Mozart's brunch menu, but with a new location I wanted to switch it up, so I ordered a chicken schnitzel sandwich. It was A-OK, but nothing to write home about. I have to say though... I was VERY disappointed with their potato salad.. It lacked any kind of flavor and the potatoes were just off. It wasn't the best I've ever had. Luckily for Mozart's their delicious desserts saved the meal. Their Moonlight Sonata Cake is really delicious. I highly recommend it for chocolate lovers and even for the not-so chocolate lovers, because it's not overly rich. The Vanilla cake in between sets it off perfectly. Also their Marzipan is some of the best in Columbus! You really MUST give it a try! Service was good, quick and efficient, but nothing overly remarkable. The thing I really like about Mozart's is that it's a place where you can come in looking UBER nice, or you can come in fairly casual and you won't be judged. Don't let the pretentious look of the place and piano scare you off... It just has that Clintonville easy going vibe. As much as I would LOVE to give Mozart's a four or five star review.. I just can't. They still need to work on their other dishes to take them from bland and meh to WOW, but desserts are already there.. believe me! read more

I can't speak to the quality of their desserts, but they look delicious. My friends and I usually gather here for brunch. The coffee and food are all wonderful. Their breakfast sandwiches are ridiculously good. The only down side is the service. It's soooooo slow! I mean, Sundays are great for brunch and taking some time to enjoy your day, but I certainly don't want to waste 30 minutes of it sitting at the table with empty plates and drinks, waiting to even see our server to get the check. I'm giving it 3 stars because if it wasn't for this place being in the perfect location for my group of friends to meet up, I don't know that we'd actually seek it out. I've heard a lot of chit chat about Mozart's. The ambiance, the clean and tasty brunch items, tea time... so naturally I had high expectations for my Saturday morning breakfast. My girlfriend and I arrived at Mozart's at 9:30, before the morning rush, and expected a smooth sailing breakfast; instead, we played the waiting game from the time we arrived until the time we left. Considering Mozart's was sparsely populated at 9:30, we waited for at least five minutes to be seated. A hostess was no where to be found, and in addition, the workers at the bakery counter reglected to acknowledge us until they sensed that we were fidgeting, growing exponentially more impatient. Only then did they inform us that we would be helped "shortly." The hostess finally brought us to the outdoor patio. 'Twas a beautiful day, and we were craving the warm sunshine. A server didn't approach our table until another ten minutes later to take our drink and food orders. At this point, we were done waiting and just wanted to get our food and leave. We asked for our check before the food came out, something we never do unless we are fed up with slow service, or are in a rush. I had the vegetable quiche, a delectable slice of heaven to start off my day. The eggs were light and fluffy, and stuffed effusively with vegetables. I didn't eat for the rest of the day after that filling slice of heaven. Although the new Mozart's is indeed beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, and just lovely, I probably will not return any time soon. This place has one of the most attentive owners and staff. The desserts are incredible and require about a once-a-week drive by. Had to rush in today to pick up a devil-made-me-do-it Chocolate Truffle Torte for a neighborhood get together. I was literally in and out in under five minutes. That said, if you have a minute to stay for a hot meal - the ambience, the pianist, the food (especially the schnitzel), and the staff almost make you feel like you are on vacation -- it'll truly be an evening -- without the cost of airfare. But I paid $2.95 for a fruit cup that was about the size of a 1/4 cup. The fruit cup was definitely a rip off.
