I pull up and check my history. It was meat and potatoe, so that's where we went. We walk in and WOW the environment was fun and enjoyable. We sat at the bar the waitress was kind and gave great recommendations! Enjoyed many new drinks. Took a flat bread home for lunch for tomorrow. Tasted some of it there and wow! This is our second time at this place and we were not disappointed. My wife had the patty melt and loved it. I had the Mac&Cheese with bbq pork and jalapeño peppers. Really delicious and a large serving that I could not finish. The French fries were also delicious. Service was outstanding and our server was very attentive and friendly. I came here with my family and my son ordered buttered noodles from the kid's menu. He asked for parmesan cheese and the waitress had to ask the manager and then she came back and said she had to charge us extra for the parmesan that came in a tiny little cup. I should have read the reviews first about the service it was worse than terrible , I have had food from there at lunch the food was really good but we got it to go and the place looks nice, we had a loss in the family so I wanted to do something different for my mom and aunt I had a limo pick them up in cicero and bring them out to me here in neighboring wheeling, again we usual go to Chinn's or Dons dock but I wanted something different we got there in the morning when they opened on sept 14th 2024 the place was empty and stayed empty for about a half hour or more after we sat down the waitress was so rude that it actually made my food taste bad she was ignorant to my mother I was so mad if my family wasn't there and the cops didn't come in for lunch I would have gone off on her, seriously I had to calm myself down. every time she opened her mouth, I would start talking right away to my family so they wouldn't focus on her behavior after this experience and trying to make a good day for my family. I've been here twice before and everyone was super welcoming except one person. She may be a manager or supervisor behind the bar. She's older, short, usually behind the bar area and extremely rude. I was prepared to give this restaurant a good review, and then I dropped by Thursday. The usual bartenders, Madison and another gentleman whose name escapes me (Casey?), weren't there, but this older woman was. She barely greeted me and plopped a menu in front of me. After a while, she asked what I wanted to drink. As she'd waited so long, I was now close to the Happy Hour, so I told her I would wait. As I waited, a white woman sat a few seats away, and she was immediately greeted, given the happy hour menu and told, "It's happy hour soon!" When 4:00 hit, she took the other woman's drink order, and while pouring it, leaned over and asked if I wanted something. Knowing that my drink order is specific, I tried to tell her what it was, but being 6 feet away, of course she got it wrong. She then proceeded to take the food order for the other lady, again, not coming to my table, but leaning over, asked if I wanted something to eat. I smiled and told her, "No. Not after this!" When she FINALLY came to my seat I addressed her telling her that I didn't appreciate the treatment I'd received and that I thought it was race-based. She replied, "no...no...no..." to which I replied, YES! I saw what she was doing. People should not be treated like this. I should not be disrespected and I deserve the same level of service as everyone elese! I promptly left. So, despite the earier experiences, I can't condone a restaurant that employees such prejudice/racism/hate/ignorance in someone who appears to be in a managerial position. It's a humble and family-oriented place, with a good mix of traditional entrees and desserts. Although I thought the food was average overall, when I compare it to other bars in the area (such as City Works), it still stands out as the portion sizes are generous. I would be willing to give them another try at some point, as the service was on point and the restaurant is well maintained. I went with an angus burger with fries. The toasted bun was good, but the flavors weren't that balanced. I usually like onion straws, but the spiciness of the onions didn't work for me. The chocolate milkshake was a nice treat. Wanted a small but hip bar for comfort food and a beer on a particularly challenging Friday. The food and beer selections hit the spot. Nice little secret spot in the shadow of its perhaps more well-known bigger bar kiddie corner to it. Nothing overpriced or super fancy, just good eats. Ok, so I think we ordered 3 times in one week. Not the healthiest but great comfort food options! I love the Protein Cobb although I get it without the chicken. It is fresh and delicious! The Avocado flatbread is amazing!! The grilled salmon was yummy! The pot roast dip was incredible. I have had that several times. Juicy, tender and so tasty. Not a fan of the coleslaw. My first experience (take out) was mixed. We ordered a burger with the sweet potato fries and a Cubano w/ a side salad. The burger was spot-on and the fries stayed crispy during the drive home. The Cubano was an entirely different matter. The bottom bun of the Cubano had turned to complete mush during my 10 minute drive home. The top bun, while not mushy, was also not at all crispy. It was almost as if the the sandwich was barely kissed by their press. While it was tasty, the presentation was definitely lacking. This place has decent food. I've dined in once and the service was slow and my server forgot my second drink I ordered. I told her not to get it anymore since we were done eating anyway. Not the end of the world. Ordered carry out another time and everything was great. My go-to is the pot roast sandwich. However, my boyfriend and I ordered carry out again and there were a few annoyances. 1. They made my bf pay 75 cents for ranch instead of just adjusting my online order. After spending $60+, you think they could've just tossed the ranch in for free. I digress. Online I ordered a side of celery and carrots for $2. The side came with THREE tiny carrots and THREE tiny celery sticks (I should've taken a pic cuz they were SMALL). Not worth $2 in my opinion. I got the pot roast sandwich again but the au jus was greasy and oily with a bad flavor. I also got a side of mashed potatoes and they were disgusting and flavorless.
