Placed my order over the phone and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. Arrived 20 minutes later. Lady behind counter/waitress asked my name and what I ordered then acted like it just wasn't ready yet. Ok. 30 minutes later a different lady asked my name and what I ordered then told me she couldn't find my order anywhere. That would have been nice to know the first time I was asked instead of just pretending my order was in and ignoring me for half an hour. No apology. I left after already wasting nearly an hour. We really enjoyed our food tonight. It was delicious! The country fried steak was outstanding, crispy and covered in brown gravy, yum yum yum! I will be back and I will get that again. My boyfriend and I dropped in for lunch one afternoon.. The lady that took our order was very friendly but was very unsure about what they had on hand to order.. My boyfriend order the fried chicken with carrot soufflé and greens.. I got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. Their chicken was well seasoned and was great.. Carrot soufflé really good.. I was very disappointed in the meatloaf.. When I ordered it I asked if the meatloaf home made she stated that it was.. It was more of a patty of beef.. With no tomato sauce or anything..it tasted like Salisbury steak that is missing the sautéed onions!! But I would give it another try.. Just not the meatloaf.. We dropped by for lunch on Saturday. We were promptly greeted upon entering and I immediately noticed the dessert case full of various cakes and bread pudding...my mouth started watering! I ordered fried chicken (1/4 white,) green beans and mac & cheese. My wife ordered a pork BBQ sandwich and carrot soufflé. The meals came to the table pretty quickly and our items were served hot except my chicken was not as hot as the vegetables. Everything was pretty tasty, though being a soul food establishment I was expecting the chicken, green beans and mac & cheese to have more 'down home' seasoning. I did order a slice of yellow cake with chocolate frosting 'to go' and it was delicious. My only regret is that I didn't order two slices because today is Sunday and Mr. B's is closed! I Went with a friend and we saw Mr. B's on the square in Chester. So, we decided 2 give it a try. We got the Tilapia and cornbread and carrot salad. We were with two daughters (young'uns) and they got fried chicken and mac & cheese. Maybe we are all southern girls at heart b/c we loved everything. The Tilapia was "to die 4" and the chicken was good. We opted for 2 pieces of cake to split...german chocolate and carrot cake...wish I'd gotten the yellow cake with choc icing...yumm! The fish was cooked well and it was tender and flaky just like I like it. The cake was so fresh and carrot salad was good. The cornbread was some of the best I've had and I go around trying 2 find the best b/c I don't eat white bread so cornbread is a staple...I loved it. The crowning glory was the sweet tea...as a person who only drinks sweet tea I know the best...this was just downright great! That explains why I drank like 4 glasses. All good and for the price (low in my opinion) I can only say GREAT! IT was a very busy day (Chesterfest) and the place was packed, and still the staff kept up on my tea and was very nice...and we were sitting outside so they had 2 come out and in and yet they did a great job. I am not one 2 love everything, so just know they are not a sit down, fancy joint. They are a little corner store on a town square. Two doors down is the kid's pick up a slice of pizza place and a wedding shop and SHE Chester on the corner...it's not fancy, and it isn't attempting to be nor is it trying 2 charge wild prices either. Mr. B used to buy his meats from my family's meat market. I was always impressed by his work ethic and professional attitude, so I knew my friends and I were in for a treat when we recently decided to meet for lunch at his restaurant. The fried tilapia was the best I've ever had. The carrot souffle, sweet potatoes, and homemade rolls were spectacular, too. I would pass on the mashed potatoes and collard greens - they were a little underseasoned for me. My sister grabbed a piece of bread pudding to go and I'm glad she did - it was delicious and for $3 you get a generous portion. My only regret is that we didn't get another piece! read more

The staff was not friendly no one spoke to us. Our waitress never checked on us. I hate that because I am a big water drinker and my water was empty before my mail got there and had to call her over to get more water.I had meatloaf, mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas and cabbage, cabbage and black-eyed peas were good BUT the mashed potatoes we definitely instant and no flavor what so ever -yuck. The meatloaf was horrible, and it was made out of some kind of STRANG meat ... maybe it wasn't even meat I literally took one bite of both pushed to the side and the waitress never asked if something was wrong or if she could get me something else. I had the fried catfish with sides of greens and mac & cheese. The fish had NO TASTE whatsoever! The greens were not seasoned in the cooking process- we could tell. When you make greens, you cut up some onion in there, meat of choice(ham hocks or smoked turkey) you add some salt and other spices. My husband had stewed tomatoes and they tasted like someone had put a pound of sugar on them, just awful! His fried chicken-no seasoning. I did hear them say they were out of some dishes and I wonder who finds their food appetizing that they run out. The dessert case did look tasty, but I don't see ever finding out if that's any better. My whole family was disappointed. This is really good, fresh country style food. The lunch special is pretty reasonable at $5.95 for a meat, 2 veg. and a roll or cornbread. I have eaten here about 15 times and have never been disappointed. The Tilapia is breaded and cooked to perfection. The carrot soufflé sounds gross but it is delicious!! They do run out of stuff from time to time but they cook everything right there in the kitchen. The deserts aren't that good plus they are way too pricey. I know most people rant and rave about the Croaker Spot but this is hands down one of the best soul food spots I've ever been. I mean "they put their foot in it". First and foremost I almost never submit a rating unless it is positive. I always support small businesses first BUT, Mr B's is a big disappointment! Yesterday was my third attempt at dining with them and for the third time I was disappointed. I called in an order 1. 3 sides for $5 cabbage and double carrot souffle, 2. Club with mac and cheese. I ran an errand and then went to pick up my order (30 mins so they had plenty of time to fix more if when I called in the order they were running low). They ran out of carrot souffle. So I drove all the way from one side of town for nothing, a waist of time. The last two times I came there they had multiple items listed on the menu that were not available. Why, if you are running low on items not start cooking more ahead of time? This establishment is not well run. I asked the lady that took my order if they had carrot souffle before I placed my order, she checked and came back and told me "yes"! I guess it's my fault for giving them another chance. If you decide to give it a try be sure to ask them either "what they are you willing to give you today? or for there new "few select items available" menu." I bet you there will be items on their menu that are not available. They need to get it together, they've gotten comfortable - TYPICAL! read more

Looking for a quaint place for lunch we found Mr. B's. The menu selection was very good and the food was wonderful. The place is small so there will be another customer close by but everyone was enjoying the food. My meal was wonderful and we took deserts to go. Our Waiter, Conner, was such a nice guy. We stopped here after church for dinner February 26, 2017. My spouse and I have eaten here in the past and the food was ok but nothing special. I convinced my wife to give it another try and she agreed. This visit left no doubt that the food is trash. I ordered BBQ ribs and was served a thick cut of rib that had been boiled (not broiled) in water with BBQ sauce pored on top. Only one out the four veggie dishes ordered was edible.
