yuck. I am a sushi fan and this place claims to sell sushi. it was so gross. and the rest of the food was so salty and just plain not good.

A little bit eclectic and a lot of great food. Our server was fantastic with great knowledge and personality. I had the Pad Kee Mao with pork, medium spicy! He recommended it over the Kung Pao which I often eat at Oriental restaurants. It was excellent along with the Spring Rolls we had for appetizers. An extensive and great Asian food menu. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options. Excellent and reasonably-priced sushi rolls & sashimi. My favorite dishes are the Cashew Chicken, Veggie Supreme (add chicken!), Egg Foo Young, and Pad Thai. That said, I'm never disappointed when trying new stuff (and they have lots of stuff to try). Cool laid-back atmosphere, right outside of UNT which ensures good prices as well. The sake's great as well. Great service and the college-aged staff prides itself on keeping the store clean and providing excellent service. Great dog-friendly patio dining for nice days as well. I've been frequenting Mr. Chopsticks for two decades. It is by far my favorite restaurant in Denton. My kids love the stir fried green beans. And the sesame chicken is the best I've had. It is not the traditional sweet sauce covered chicken. It is a soy based sauce with fried zucchini, carrots and okra. read more

This is my all-time favorite restaraunt. The atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable, the staff are some of the most curteous people I've ever met, and the food is to die for. I'm a huge fan of their sushi rice. I just eat it by itself sometimes, it's delicious! The Pad Thai is another one of my personal favorites. You can substitute chicken, beef, or tofu with most dishes. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options and everything come in very large portions. I mean, their food isn't like every other asian restaraunt out there. It's unique. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I have never had anything I haven't liked. I haven't tried their sushi, though. They do have a sushi bar. Looks fresh, I have friends who like it. If you're looking for sweet, try the green tea ice cream or the thai tea (it's an iced milky sweet drink, yumm) 10/10 love this place, it's definitely worth a try, and if you are 'meh' about one thing, give it a second shot. I've been coming to this place off and on for over a decade, and all I got to say is save your money. They are way too inconsistent in their servings. Sometimes they give you enough food for three people, sometimes barely enough for one. Go to Panda Express. At least you what you are paying for. read more

Mr. Chopsticks is always great. The staff is funny and friendly and the prices are good. There is great variety and it is always cooked well. I have been going to Mr. Chopsticks for years and it has never once disappointed, even when I go in near closing time. It is absolutely my go-to place when I have a craving for any Asian cuisine because of the delicious food, causal atmosphere, and wonderful employees. Ordered take out and was very disappointed even though i played it safe with a staple like General Tso chicken, was cooked well but was very bland, no general tso type sauce at all. also had very pedestrian california rolls instead of crab stick was made with chunks or flakes of crab, not awful but the basics of both of these standard dishes were of poor quality. the fried rice was also very blah, its almost as if they like to cook everything well and give up when it comes to adding flavor. read more

We had high hopes from all the reviews, but were pretty disappointed. My boyfriend got beef and broccoli, and his first bite, he said it smelled funny and the beef was VERY chewy. I tried it and it was. We had heard this was excellent. We immediately asked if we could return it and order something else, because it was so bad. The server told us that on the fine print on their menu, it stated no returns "if they didn't cook it wrong." Um, what?? We were appalled. I ordered Pad Thai, and it was good, but it was EXTREMELY sweet - like it had a ton of Molasses on it or something. ( I know it's not molasses, I just cant think of the sweet Asian sauce that is used.) Our bill, for two entrees, 1 soup, 2 egg rolls, 2 Rice paper wrap rolls and 2 drinks was $45. Needless to say, there are a TON of other places we can go that actually have GOOD food, especially for that price. We spoke to a different person there, who told us the server had "Misspoken" and that the manager would call us back, because he was not working that night. We were not trying to get a free meal. Simply an edible one for that price. We have since not heard back from management, and both of us had some stomach issues later that evening and the next day. Needless to say, we won't be going back. I've heard lots of good things about this place, so it makes me sad to leave a bad review, but it was our experience. read more

Mr. Chopsticks is an eclectic Asian-Fusion delight! My first impression is that it is a cosmopolitan college hangout with a cosmopolitan college staff. It has a very creative menu, combining flavors from every corner of the Far East. I could tell that the staff loves to work there and that the chef loves to cook and create. It wasn't like any other Asian restaurant that I have ever eaten at except for maybe 'Dragonfish' in Seattle. (Which is delightful but sadly not in Denton,Tx). Of all my dining experience with traditional Asian cuisine, I can honestly say that this is not 'traditional'. It's better than traditional. It is a multi-cultural fusion of delightful Asian flavors and seasonings. The sauces are delicate and savory, with things like lemongrass and sesame and ginger. That's how I could tell the chef loves to cook! This didn't come out of a bottle and probably isn't loaded with high fructose corn syrup. (They make their own sauces! Carefully!) The staff is engaging and attentive. They are familiar with the menu and can tell you what to expect when you order. I could sense that they eat here too and love it! You may see things listed that you have never had before. If you know what you are craving and don't see it, let them know and they will make a recommendation. I did and was promised that I wouldn't be disappointed. And I wasn't. That is saying a lot for me, because I have tried all of the usual fast-food Asian cookie cutter rice bowl joints and buffets. They usually have extensive menus but everything tastes the same, because they all use the same bottled sauce on everything to be consistent, fast and economical. It doesn't matter whether you order beef, pork or chicken - they use the same sauce on each, and it always comes with either rice or noodles, with frozen peas and carrots mixed in. And the noodle quality in those fast food buffets are almost as bad as the cheap packaged ramen you get at the grocery store. So when I happened to drop in at Mr. Chopsticks I didn't know what to expect. I had trouble parking because it was so busy - always a good sign for me. And I had to wait for a table, but my server brought me a hot pot of tea while I waited -(it was a cold day). It gave me time to sneek a peek at what the other diners were having and hear what they were saying about their food. There is something to everyones' palate. Vegetarian, seafood lover, fried food junkie or carnivore, you will find something that sounds and smells good to you. Why only 4 stars? It's not Anthony Bourdain in parts unknown on TV, nor the Sheraton Bali. I could be wrong, but my impression is that they are a great clique of college kids with fast growing culinary skills creating things that they love to eat. I've had their food a total of four times now, and frankly I'm not ever planning on five. I've never had such wild versions of the same dish. I can only imagine that their 'cooks' are given a manual and then left to re-invent dishes as they see fit. The sauces are too liberally used and bland/sweet. The greatest variety in quality are the appetizers. The vegetarian steamed dumplings were absolutely the worst food I've ever paid for (it was takeout or I would have sent it back). Oily stir-fried sprouts wrapped in an oily, gummy wonton that must have been steamed in oily water. The 'chicken satay' wrap consisted of 2 cube sized pieces of chicken and a whole mess of cole-slaw type veggies. Good only for roughage. I'm truly mystified that so many people rave about this place, and that's why I gave it four tries. But in my opinion you're better off going to Panda or a strip-mall Chinese buffet. read more
