After being on a train and subjected to American food for 6 meals (no offense), I needed some motherland food: cue in Mr. Dim Sum. This restaurant looks a lot smaller from the outside, but is very modern and close to where I was staying (quite near the south center mall). My parents and myself went to Mr. dim sum on a weekend, so it was a little busy, but the wait was only about 15 minutes, which was nice. The staff was on the younger end, but was still very accommodating and efficient (though they did forget a dish of my mom's, but no harm no foul they apologized). As Post Malone played in the background, we feast it on a plethora of items: pan, fried turnip cake (these were the *cue drake* best I ever had; light and turnip-y, chicken feet (missing the black bean taste, more anise flavor), har gao (huge but also delicious), vegetable fried rice (hard pass for the amount, price, and taste; no wok hey!), shrimp look funn (oh man, cue drake again!), Chinese broccoli (standard), salt and pepper calamari (nicely breaded but skimpy amount), pork hash (also huge and standard). Did we over eat? Yes. Were we happy with what we ate? Mostly. Would we go back? Yes. Well, it (cue drake for the third time) The best I ever had, but it was pretty dang good. There were particular dishes I would go specifically back for, while passing on some others. Given the proximity of convenience and wait time in addition to waitstaff, cleanliness, they're a pretty good choice for dim sum. Finally tried it after it opened some time. Came on Sunday morning right after their door opened, so no wait. I imagine it can get busy since I see they have set up a waiting area for the line. It is order by QR code. The foods came out fast and steaming hot. A good and important part for eating dim sum. They offer a variety of options. Came in and met a few friends, they all liked dim sum so I said "what the heck, we'll have dim sum for dinner". Everything was good and fresh, liked the shrimp dumplings for their thin skin. You know when you go to the old school dim sum restaurants and it's not hot and seems like it has just been sitting out? Well not here! I have been here a couple of times. One time things took forever to come out, I am assuming because we went after the rush so things took longer to cook? And service was SO slow like we had to hunt down our server and ask to order and stuff it was terribe. The other time I went more at normal dim sum hour and it was super quick to come out. Coming off of a cruise, I always want Asian food when I return. Mr. Dim Sum was the designated spot leaving the airport. Siu Mai, Ha Gow and pan fried chives and shrimp dumpling are super plump and shareable. Everything came out fresh, piping hot and made to order. My favorites were the crispy rice roll with shrimp and nori, purple potato with golden custard balls. These are unique items that you don't typically find at other dim sum joints. The surprising favorite was the steamed BBQ pork bun. My go to is the baked version but I checked the wrong box here. I found the steamed version to be well proportioned with the dough and tasty BBQ pork filling vs too much dough and not enough filling. I would have this again! I found some items to lack flavor including the sticky rice in lotus wrap (lo mai gai) and pork puffs (hom sui gok). The pork filling was on the bland side for both. We found this dim sum place in the tukwila mall and it was such a pleasant surprise. They have great food and a really unique presentation for a lot of the dishes here. Our first few times here it felt like it was a little overpriced, but I think it's actually just that they're serving. Sizes are huge so it comes out too. The same price as other locations and the food quality is actually a little bit better. There are a surprisingly large amount of good restaurants in this mall, but this is a family favorite if we're ever around the Seattle airport area. It took a while for the waiter to come and get us checked out. They give a menu to write down the quantities that we wanted from the menu. They were quick to pick up the menu and the food came out about 10 minutes later. Our favorite was the beef chow fun. It was fragrant and a good texture. My family and I came to Mr. Dim Sum this past weekend for the first time. We arrived at 10am on Saturday morning, which is when they open. Note that they do not take reservations. Mr. Dim Sum is the newest dim sum restaurant in Tukwila and is located inside of Westfield South Center Mall between Marugame Udon and Gen Korean Restaurant. It had a write-up in the Seattle Time this past January, but we decided to wait until after Lunar New Years to give it a try. They serve all day dim sum, which is a rarity, especially outside of International District/Chinatown. Mr. Dim Sun is definitely more modern and upscale than your average International District dim sum restaurant, almost mimicking the fancy Chinese restaurants you find in Richmond, B.C. The interior is intricately decorated with paper lamps and carved wooden partitions. It is very clean and they serve your food in wooden hexagonal boxes or on a fancy platter. We ordered the... - STIR FRIED GREEN BEANS WITH GARLIC ($10.95) - fantastic dish that has super strong garlic flavor and garlic crisps and is not overly oily. Would 10/10 get this dish again. - STIR FRIED RICE RILLS WITH XO SAUCE (dried scallop/shrimp) ($12.50) - I thought this dish would use the cylindrical rice rolls like Korean Toppokki, but it actually was mushier and tasted more like Italian Gnocchi. Regardless of the texture, the XO flavor was good and there was plenty of little shrimps and onion. - SHRIMP DUMPLINGS ($7.95) - these dumplings were HUGE and the wrapper was just right (not too thick and not too thin). They weren't super tasty on their own though and needed some soy sauce or chili oil from the table to add some flavor. Ive definitely had better, but these are passable. Each order contains 4 dumplings. - CHICKEN STEAMED BUNS ($6.95) - these were the most disappointing of the dishes we ordered. The bread was nice and fluffy, but the chicken filling was bland. Would not order again. Each order contains 3 baos. - BBQ PORK STEAMED BAO ($7.25) - these were ten times better than the chicken version. The barbecue pork was nicely marinated and had just the right ratio of sweet/savory Chinese bbq sauce in the middle. Each order also contains 3 baos. - PAN FRIED RADISH CAKE ($7.25) - these were also somewhat disappointing as they were bland and mushy. These came with hoisin sauce which I didn't really think went with it, but also didn't save the dish. Each order comes with 3 cakes. - PAN FRIED TARO CAKE WITH PORK ($7.95) - these were much better than the radish cake as they were super crispy on the outside (almost like chow mein crispy) and had great savory taste. I didn't have to add any sauce to these- they were absolutely delicious! Each order comes with 3 cakes. - PURPLE POTATO WITH GOLDEN CUSTARD BALLS ($8.25) - this is the most unique dish that Mr. Dim Sum offers and the one that had the Seattle Times food critics raving about. They may just look like fried donut holes on the outside, but the inside contains mashed purple sweet potato (Ube) with sweet and gooey egg custard filling. The contrast between the dark purple potato and the bright golden egg is quite aesthetic. Served piping hot, these were fantastic and my boyfriend's favorite of the dishes- just be careful not to burn your mouth or fingers. Each order comes with 3 balls. MIXED MUSHROOM RICE ROLLS ($7.50) - as someone who enjoys mushrooms, this was my pick. The inside was earthy and contained a mix of black mushrooms and other mushrooms. The rice wrappers though were quite thin and broke easily when trying to serve them. I would've preferred them to be thicker and chewier. These were okay overall, but would probably not order them again. JASMINE TEA ($2.20 per person) - they give you a teapot to share. The tea was very hot and fragrant. TLDR- get the stir fried garlic green beans, the purple potato with golden custard balls, and the fried taro cakes. Service was good and we got our food within 15-20 minutes after ordering. I will note that portions are on the smaller side here (think like Din Tai Fung sized or smaller), but the quality is on par with many other dim sum restaurants in Seattle (plus it saves you a trip from having to go into the city). With that said, I think the dim sum at Triumph Valley in Renton does just of a good job as here, but with larger portions and slightly cheaper prices. Quality-wise, everything is okay. It's rather expensive for dimsum, without any standout reason (e.g. quality ingredients, special items). It is rather convenient, and located at a mall, so my understanding is that is where the pricey-prices are stemming from. The service is straightforward, I do like their non-alcoholic bevies. They do a HH but the 2 visits during that timeframe, you couldn't order any non-alcoholic drinks (they said they were out), though there are some listed on HH. As someone who isn't a big dimsum person, I'd skip it but if you are, I think it's worth trying. They seem like they're aiming for a night-vibe with a bar though it's a bit small. Reminds me of something I've seen in Asia. Nothing has been bad, it's really just on the pricier end... If I wanted dimsum, I have some more affordable spot's I'd drive out to. read more

I discovered this place by accident, not expecting to find a Dim Sum place in a mall. It is located near one of the back entrances on the first floor. I've come here twice, because the food is overall pretty good. I like the quality of the dough and how much they fill up their dumplings. The flavor of the meat itself is okay, it is enough to hit that craving. Staff is very nice, very attentive if it is empty but if they are busy it's harder to get a hold of someone. The first time I came it was empty, but the second time it was pretty packed we only had to wait a couple minutes before being seated. Even when it's packed it's not super loud. Everything is kept clean. I've tried the Shrimp Dumplings, Pork & Shrimp Shumai, Shanghai Dumpling, Chive Shrimp Dumpling, Beef Tripe, and Shrimp Rice Rolls. I walked into Mr. Dim Sum for lunch but left with disappointment. Upon arriving, I was told that there would be a short wait. Fortunately, I was able to snag a seat at the bar. The service here is decent, but not as fast as I would like. The bartender quickly attended to me and placed my order shortly afterwards. However, the food preparation took some time. This is at odds with many dim sum places which have all the foods prepared ahead of time. As for the quality of the food, it wasn't that great. While decently flavored, my plain congee was too plain and had no toppings, like scallion or ginger, whatsoever. Moreover, my lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice was somewhat under-flavored. Was shopping at Southcenter mall and wanted to try this dim sum place out. My partner and I decided to put our names on the waitlist since we went during the busy rush. We only had to wait for 30 minutes which wasn't so bad. They will text you when the table is ready. We decided to walk around the mall while we wait for the text. By the time we got the text, we immediately rushed back to get seated. Once we entered the restaurant, the dining area was nice and intimate like you're in a fine dining restaurant. Once we got seated, we were handed the menu. We noticed there's a charge for hot tea per person which already gave us an impression that it's going to be an expensive meal. Below are my thoughts on each items we ordered. Shrimp dumpling: the size of each dumplings were huge! They do give you a lot of shrimp which justified the cost. Pricey at about $8 per order. Pork and shrimp shui mai: nothing too special. It was our usual dim sum order. The dumplings were small. Not worth the $8 price point imo. Black pepper beef short rib: this was by far our favorite! The short ribs were tendered and juicy and not too spicy. Though I wish they give you more in an order. Will order again. Stir fried radish cake with XO sauce: this was one of our top favorites. The radish cake were nicely pan fried with XO sauce. Love the kick from of the spicy sauce. Will order this again! Purple potato with golden custard: this was a nice dessert to eat. It's a mochi ball stuffed with oozing custard. It was a nice treat to end our meal. Overall, our dim sum experience was superb. Service was great. Had lunch here today. Dim sum was very good! This is the place for steamed bbq buns!! They make the perfect ones with bbq sauce infused pork. Dumplings were XL size vs. other places. Shrimp dumplings & potstickers were on point. Sautéed green beans were just as good as DTF but portions were very small, be warned. A handful of green beans for $10.95! I had high expectations for this restaurant that just opened up in the Southcenter Mall. The owner of this restaurant is also the same owner of Hong Kong Bistro in the C-ID. But the ambiance of this restaurant is definitely more upscale and bougie than Hong Kong Bistro. I was very excited for this restaurant to open because it'd be easier to eat dim sum and there wasn't a place in Tukwila yet. However, I'm sadly disappointed. Everything is overpriced and the portions are small. The shrimp rice roll was half of what you would get at a traditional Cantonese restaurant. The Century Egg & Pork Congee was mid and lacked flavor. I was also shocked that the Century Egg was a bright yellow color, meaning it wasn't preserved long enough. Century Egg is typically a darker, greenish-black color. When the congee arrived, it also came with a ladle. Usually, that wouldn't be a problem if you were sharing the congee, but I wasn't. Most of the servers are non-Chinese, which I don't have anything against but the service was bad in my opinion because of the lack of understanding of customs and tradition that is typical to eating at a Chinese restaurant. The congee should've came with a soup spoon along with the ladle or extra small bowls should've been provided - I don't know why they thought a ladle would suffice and it would've looked silly if I tried. I also never saw my server and had to make an effort to seek out someone to bring me a soup spoon and refill my water - the tea price was $2 per person, which is crazy. I have strong opinions of this restaurant because I've dined at Hong Kong Bistro many times and it's my go-to place when I'm in the C-ID, so I was shocked that this restaurant did not resemble it in the slightest. The food was mid and the service was frustrating. I was hesitant to try Mr. Dim Sum because of all of the reviews at grand opening, but I'm glad I finally did! My family came here for weekday lunch and we ordered a LOT of food, mostly the classics but a couple of unique items too. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality (it really seems like it's all made in house here, whereas most dim sum restaurants get theirs pre-made). Each individual piece of food seemed at least 25% larger than average, so trying one piece of each dish per person felt like plenty. Nothing felt too greasy or salty. Presentation was very pretty. Food came out quickly and service was reliable. The restaurant in itself is very nicely decorated. It's pricey, but it makes sense for the very labor intensive work it takes to make dim sum in house, the generous size of the individual pieces, and the nice ambiance. Finally had a chance to try this place! I was honestly shocked at how decent it was. The chicken feet had good flavor and tasted legit. There were a number of authentic things on the menu that someone who actually grew up eating them would get (chicken feet, tripe, etc). The shumai and the salt and pepper chicken wings were a bit lacking in terms of flavor, but were still passable. Peavines are typically pretty expensive because they're annoying to prepare, but for $14.95, that felt like a decent deal. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now so I took my wife a couple of days ago. We stopped in at noon on a Monday and it was not too crowded. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. They leave a paper menu at the table for you to order off of. Once that's completed you handed to your waiter. From the time we placed our order, it was no more than about 10 minutes before we received our first entrée. The portions were a bit larger than we were used to, and that was a good surprise. Everything arrived hot and fresh and was delicious. Our waiter stopped by several times to make sure that our water and drinks were topped off and did a great job keeping the table clear. The reviews that we read on here talking about slow service we're probably attributed to the opening. They seem to have settled in nicely and everything is running like clockwork. Even after several weeks of opening there's still quite a wait to get a seat here! Most tables inside seem to seat at least 4 people but there is bar seating inside. Since the place is still new, the interior feels fresh but kind of dark because of the flooring. I went here during Monday noon with a party of 4 and we waited about 20 minutes to get a seat. You get a paper menu with the dishes you can order - a ton of them had already been crossed off since they were either out of stock or didn't serve them. For multi-dish places like these, I do like to explain each of them in more detail, but overall I enjoyed the food here! - My favorite was the Chinese donut in rice roll; the noodles were so thin that it just wrapped around the donut, and it the donut itself was still crisp when I ate it! - The pan-fried pork buns were also tasty and weren't too airy. - The pan-fried taro cake, beef tripe, BBQ pork buns and pan-fried chive and shrimp dumplings were all right. - The golden custard bun had the same look as a regular pineapple bun which I enjoyed a lot. Quality of food was decent overall, though not too much stood out to me. Prices are surprisingly reasonable compared to other new dim sum places I've been to as of late - they're either the same or only slightly higher. Service was exceptional; our waiter would check on us at the right times for anything we needed, most notably more water for our Tie Guan Yin tea. I'd come back again to try some of the OG dim sum dishes like shrimp dumplings and siu mai to get another opinion here! read more

The food we tried was great! Two that stood out was the rice paper shrimp roll and the pineapple bread. Service was not that great but they looked short staffed on our visit. The setting was comfortable. The tables were close to each other but it didn't feel packed. read more

We checked in on a busy Saturday understanding there would be a wait. We were told that we would receive a text in 45. We returned after an hour ourselves and they seated us next. We asked for hot tea, they had several to choose from. It was in a large pot. We ordered 4 items. The first came 25 minutes after ordering. A second 5 minutes later, then 3&4 at once... 5 minutes later. You need to write down your order on the paper. The polite people working there take your drink order and provide table settings. The spare ribs had too much fat on most pieces. The bean curd was good. The shu-mai (sp?) was plump and good... and I'm told the chicken feet were good. Atmosphere had pleasant lighting and decor. Very busy on a Saturday! Was not blown out of the water, but it is convenient good dim sum. read more
