Great local place. Someone is always there to say hi when I walk in to pick up my order and I'm lucky enough that they'll deliver to my house if I'm too lazy to drive! I haven't had anything I didn't like here - stuffed shell dinner is my go-to and their meatball sub is a perfect lunch. Garlic bread is perfect for dipping in the sauce from your meal. Pizza bread is a nice snack or add-on. No dine in options, but everything holds up well for eating back at your house or office (or even in your car!) Mr. D's is a pleasant island oasis in a sea of mediocre pizza shops. It's the first in awhile here in South Florida that felt like a pizza shop when you walk in. The staff is helpful and entertaining and the pizza is worlds better then most any pizza I've had in south Florida. Only pizza shop coming close is Nola's in West Palm Beach. Been coming to Mr. D's now for over 3 years and am willing to drive the distance now that I'm 20 minutes away for a good pie. read more

Not sure why there are not more reviews for Mr. D's. Do not let that dissuade you from eating here though. What the restaurant lacks in atmosphere, they make up for in food and hospitality. Mr. D's was a staple for me when I was growing up in Plantation. I moved away and forgot about them, but someone recently mentioned Mr. D's to me. So, when we found ourselves in Ft. Lauderdale, we me made a beeline for Mr. D's on our way to Marco Island from the airport. We stopped in at 8pm and were greeted warmly by Mario. I told him my story and showed him the discussion of Mr. D's on the " I grew up in Plantation" Facebook group. We ordered a large cheese and a smaller size baked ziti(4.25). I'd purchased a Yelp deal before arriving so my grand total with 2 cans of soda was 5.00 after my yelp deal was redeemed. Total for all was 15.00. The pizza was hot, flavorful and oozing with cheese. I blotted the tiny amount of grease, added my garlic and oregano and proceeded to fold my slice. Yes, totally foldable. Mario gave us some famous pizza bread to try and my wife scarfed that up. Our baked ziti was huge for 4.25. It also came with 2 slices of garlic bread. While we sat at the counter and ate, people continually walked in picking up take-out orders. Mario and his staff were chatting with all the customers, treating them like they were old friends or family. We will definitely be back before we return to California. read more

One of those rare gems where the owner Mario has been there for decades and used to deliver Pizza for them ages ago.It was my first time there, seems Mario knows all the kids in the neighborhood by name, very friendly. Even offered to to give me my 13 dollar pizza for 10 bucks when I picked it up and realized I didn't have cash. Very friendly, great food and from the minute you walk in Mario makes you feel at home. Ok, I have to admit, I doubted this place due to the looks. I mean it's tiny, old, and crammed BUT the pizza is so delicious! It's really A1. Huge, thin, and crispy slices yum. This is really one of my new favorite spots. I hope someone invests in this small restaurant because the potential is there. My children are so happy, they want to come here everyday after school. Best pizza around we always have them for birthday parties and my kids school also uses them for all of their events.

This is a small and very good little pizza joint in Plantation. The crust is thin and crispy, and they have a good deal at lunch time that gets you two slices, each with a topping and a drink for $6. It's a small little establishment with 3 or 4 stools at the counter, but they serve a lot of carry out. I always go for the slices, but full pizzas seem to range around $13-16 or so. It's a local favorite around the area, I see many regulars there that go there on their lunch break. They all like the owner and the staff that is nice and playful, and they seem to like them back. I don't know any of them, but they're all down to earth and friendly. You can find this style of pizza about anywhere, they haven't reinvented the wheel here. The thing is, they do it really well. They've apparently been doing this for a while, and I hope this never changes. This is what this sort of pizza should taste like, and what I think is a fair price. And lastly, there's one special ingredient that they put into it, love. I don't know about others, but I enjoy this place. read more

Ordered delivery from here for the first time. Food came hot and faster than we expected! Pizza had good flavor. I think they need bigger pizza boxes bc one whole side of our pizza was smooshed. This is the closet restaurant to me. I tried it the week I moved in and ordered the chicken Parm sub. As a personal preference, I like very thin pounded chicken and this was way too thick for my taste. I really did not like it. I did not go back for another year and a half, but was happy I did. Maybe their chicken Parm was not for me, but their eggplant Parm, calzone, and GARLIC BREAD are amazing. I am not really a fan of pizza (I know, I'm strange), I had a bite of my daughters and I can even tolerate theirs. BEST Sub Ever! I'm like Joey from the sitcom Friends. My favorite food is sandwiches. I've had awesome sandwiches from many a place in Florida. The large hot italian sub from Mr. D's is --hands down-- the best sub I've had in my 30 yrs of living. It had the perfect bread, meat, to cheese proportion. They don't use a microwave or mini-oven like lots of other places. So, the meat isn't in jeopardy of having a bad after-taste. They used a press to heat my sub to perfection. When I say perfection, I mean the bread was still soft with a slight crisp, the cheese melted and the meat warm enough that I can eat it while pregnant. Their service is 5 stars also. Mind you, if it wasn't, I would still go back because the sub was JUST that good. The staff were busy happily working. The cashier was precise and friendly. And I'm loving the fact that I can get this high quality food and service on a Sunday night at 8 pm. read more

Ordered a large 4 topping pizza . 23.00, took 1.5hrs for delivery and I only live .7 of a mile from the location. When order was placed was told it would be 40-50 mins. Nothing tasteful or flavorful about this pizza. They definitely don't use fresh ingredients, canned mushrooms and jalapeños, pepperoni's where very very thin... Used to be much faster service. Maybe it was just tonight but the pizza doesnt have much flavor. read more

I started going to Mr. D's around 30 years ago when I started working around the corner from them. The owner was a nice guy and he made a great product! Over the years I've eaten everything they have that I typically will eat. I've NEVER had a bad meal there. I especially recommend the pizza. It is rare that I find anyplace that is as generous with his toppings. The taste and texture of his sauce is above average as well as the crust is. Just a touch of greasy only adds to it for me. While it is not a place you can really sit and eat, if your looking for a truly solid product; CHECK THEM OUT. I moved out of state but anytime I come back to visit I include a stop at this wonderful little hole in the wall. Now workin on 31 years of being a more than satisfied customer! I've literally been eating at Mr. D's since I was five years old and living in Broadview Park. My sister and brothers all had their first jobs at Mr. D's. Am I biased? Maybe, but I can honestly tell you that this really is the best pizza in Broward County. I live now in Coral Springs, but I still go down to get pizza there at least twice a month. When we lived out of state, when we came home to visit it was the one place I had to eat at while we were back. If that doesn't tell you anything about how good it is, then you just don't understand good pizza. I've had other dishes there, and they are just as amazing as the pizza! I was on a FB page looking at old photos from the 60s, 70s and 80s, from Dade and Broward counties. I came across an old pizza menu from a place called Mr. D's. This place dates back to the early 70s, so didn't think it would still exist, but after reading some comments on about a vintage menu, I found out the restaurant is still in business. Coincidentally my son requested pizza for lunch, so I agreed I would bring him pizza he hasn't tried yet. My husband is from NY and he's very picky about pizza. So, I ventured out on a drive hoping to bring back good quality style pizza. I read about the place being very easy to pass, so I made sure I would drive slowly as I approached. The outside appearance is very dated, like an old shop and the inside was very similar- definitely brought back memories of the 80s. First thing I noticed was the limited seating (maybe 4 counter stools) and the beverage cooler was filled with sooo many different options for drinks. Typically, most places have a limit to variety of drinks but this was fantastic! From Lemonade to Jupina soda- lol. Aside from that- the friendly staff, Sam and Chris, served the best customer service I've come across in a long time. They welcomed me as if I was a new neighbor and introduced themselves. I wanted to try many things off the menu, but kept it to 3 choices. I placed an order for 2 Large cheese pies, full Tuna sub and a full cheese steak sub. While I waited for the order to be ready, I expressed to Chris how I came about finding this place and he pointed to the wall where the original menu hung that I had seen prior online. My order was ready after 20 minutes! I Drove home ever so fast with the aroma of the pizza filling up my car. I was feeling a bit nervous as I didn't want to have high hopes for pizza that could turn out to be so generic. Well... after reaching home finally, kids and hubby took their initial bites and let's just say- I had all thumbs up from the family. My husband expressed how it's the best pizza he's had in south Florida since relocating here from Nj/NY. This will now be one of our favorite places to share with friends and family.
